thinking about my Nonexistent Pathologic Opera and how i would cast it again, so. here you go i guess. (this is by no means exhaustive and i am a bit torn on whether to do a hansel & gretel/turn of the screw/albert herring/etc. with the children or not.)

i... kind of want ludovic tézier as general block but also i think he would be good as big vlad. but i guess double casting is open to me so. both time.

(alternatively jonas kaufmann as block, because otherwise this is... so horribly bottom heavy vocally.)

on the Olgimskies Subject, matthew polenzani as young vlad. i’m specifically thinking of the stupid glazed expression that he constantly had as carlos.

(equally there IS a version where he is a baritone. but that’s the one where i’m playing him.)

philippe jaroussky as mark immortell? this is a difficult one. mark is doing so much but i want the baroque Thing and that’s jaroussky’s main interest musically.

michael spyres as bad grief? i am charmed by the idea of grief being played by somebody who has an objectively Weird vocal range

As personagens femininas principais das óperas Anna Bolena, Maria Stuart e Roberto Devereux têm sido chamadas de as "três rainhas de Donizetti".

Roberto Devereux mostra Donizetti no auge de seus poderes musicais e dramáticos. A premissa dramática de uma mulher mais velha no poder e um homem mais jovem à sua mercê deu a Donizetti a oportunidade de escrever algumas de suas músicas mais teatrais.

O dom de Donizetti para a melodia e a compreensão da voz humana estão em plena exibição em Roberto Devereux, mas a partitura vai além disso, revelando as possibilidades dramáticas inerentes ao melhor da tradição do bel canto. O emocionante final da ópera pertence inteiramente a Elizabeth, em uma variação da clássica cena de loucura como uma jornada interna e uma crise espiritual.

Esta produção atmosférica da estreia de David McVicar no Met enquadra a dramática e comovente história de amor da rainha e do conde de Essex como uma peça dentro de outra peça que se desenrola diante dos membros da corte real. A interpretação de Radvanovsky da monarca idosa é um tour de force, revelando o conflito entre seus deveres públicos como governante da Inglaterra e seus sentimentos particulares como mulher. Matthew Polenzani é o Conde de Essex, Roberto Devereux, o objeto de sua afeição que está dividido entre duas mulheres.
