How Toei wanted to make their own ver. of Silver Surfer in the early 80′s (Get ready because it’s about to get wild)
All the information I’ve gotten is in this one blog here, documenting about what Toei and Marvel were collabing on at the time: https://spider-man.at.webry.info/200802/article_3.html
Tumblr media
From the blog in the link above:
‘As mentioned in this blog several times before, after Spider-Man aired from 1978 to 1979, Toei planned and considered several programs using Marvel characters, including 3-D Man, Moon Knight and Silver Surfer. We introduced 3-D Man (26 May 2007) and Moon Knight (14 January 2008), but Silver Surfer had not yet been introduced, so we thought we would introduce it sooner or later, but the other day we happened to receive a copy of the "New Programme Proposal" that resulted in Silver Surfer's death. I was planning to introduce it sooner or later, but I happened to get a copy of the Silver Surfer's lost 'New Programme Proposal' the other day, so I'll write about it this time, weaving in its contents as I go along.
This is the Silver Surfer proposal. Four colour photos of the main characters are attached.
Tumblr media
The show is a colourful and varied action series centered on three Marvel Comics heroes - Silver Surfer, Ms Marvel and The Thing - and features Marvel characters from time to time, plus original characters from Japan.
Title: Silver Surfer Type: SF hero action film Format: TV film with extensive use of VTR synthesis, 30-minute complete episodes, 26 or more episodes. Target audience: Young people and other families in general. Based on the novel by Saburo Hate (from the Marvel Comics version) Planning cooperation: Kikakusha 104 Production: Toei Co.
Planning details The Great Invasion Army, led by the space emperor Galactus, extends its power across the universe. Their next target is our home planet, Earth. At ・・・・・, Ms Marvel and The Thing, who belong to the Japan Branch of the Independent Strategy Office, have a fateful encounter with the superhero Silver Surfer, who has escaped from Galactus' army to Earth, and are told by him of the enemy's true intentions. The three are united by a strong sense of comradeship and rivalry as they face their giant enemy.
Introduction of the characters
Tumblr media
Silver Surfer (Koushi Shibuki). A silver-coloured alien who pilots a surfboard named Skyboard and travels through space at the speed of light. He was a resident of the planet Zen Ra, but was captured when an invasion force destroyed the planet and converted into a space combat soldier in the psychic strategic development section. After being converted, he attempted to escape to his late mother's planet.
Fights enemies with Cosmic Power, an ability that allows him to manipulate cosmic energy. Cosmic Blast = Attacks by firing energy blasts from the fingertips. Cosmic Burst = Energy discharge generated from both hands spread wide. Cosmic Attack = The strongest attack method, in which the energy stored in the body is released, the entire body is enveloped in energy and the attacker strikes with the body. However, this technique drains all of Silver Surfer's energy and can only be used once in battle, as he has no attack ability for "one hour" until the Cosmic Energy is charged up in his body again.
Usually a young man who enjoys ocean sports, mainly surfing. When he catches sight of an enemy invasion, he heads for the battlefield as a warrior Silver Surfer. His father is from the planet Zen Ra and his mother is from Earth.
Tumblr media
Miz Marvel (Masumi Suzuka). An Earth superheroine with inherently superior precognition and clairvoyant abilities. In everyday life, she is a female university student who works part-time at a coffee shop frequented by Koushi Shibuki. She is actually the daughter of the wealthy Suzuka family.
Tumblr media
Thing (Gen Ishihara). A power fighter who punches with great destructive power, defeats his enemies with great monstrous strength, and is an earthling who specialises in ground combat. He is usually a truck driver. He often frequents the coffee shop where Suzuka Masumi works part-time. During the investigation of a previous case, he was involved in an explosion at an enemy hideout, at which time he was exposed to special energy along with a monstrous beam of light, and became a superhuman with immeasurable power.
That's roughly how it went down. The rest of the book contains information about the 'Independent Strategy Office of the Earth Defence Organisation' to which the three belong, an introduction to the 'Galactus Army', a sample story of the first episode, and so on. We will introduce this proposal when we have a chance.
-----------------------------------
By the way, I looked into this lost project to see if it was utilized in any later Toei special effects programs, and found some matching settings in Space Detective Gavan, which was broadcast from March 1982. The Gavan project started in the spring of 1981, around the same time as Silver Surfer. The story is about the defense of peace in space, which is a different dimension from existing heroes. He wears a silver combat suit. He emits rays of light from his fingertips. His father is an alien and his mother is from Earth. He rides in a sidecar (Cyberian), reminiscent of the Silver Surfer.
Tumblr media
[Image reference.]
There may be more, but I don't think I'm the only one who feels that this is similar. However, I haven't seen any reference book that states the fact that the 'Silver Surfer' setting was used for 'Gavan', so this is a matter of speculation.’
------------------------------------- End of Translation
So that was my find of this info. All while I’m trying to find info of ‘Tomb of Dracula’ anime animated by Toei so I tried to find info on Google using Dracula’s Japanese title and lo and behold, I found this blog that has quite the info on it.
Next time, info on ‘Tomb of Dracula’ anime movie and how Harmony Gold crammed WAAAY Too much story into a condensed movie that was different in the intended way by Toei.

The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition is Here
Toyota has announced the 2024 Toyota GR lineup – and we’re so excited to show you one of our favorites on the lineup. The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition is all the buzz in the sportscar community, and one of the main reasons is that it commemorates the Toyota AE86’s 40th anniversary. Since this N Charlotte Toyota sportscar has so many cool features, we will make it simple for you.
Tumblr media
2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition Performance
The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition comes with an upgraded performance package – that comes in both manual and automatic transmissions. You’ll be able to add this performance package to your 2023/2022 Toyota GR86, so don’t worry if you’re not able to get your hands on this particular N Charlotte Toyota. Let’s get into it.
There will be ZF SACHS Dampers and Brembo brakes that come standard on all models.
These features will enhance the consistency of handling, ride comfort, and brake system.
Automatic and, now, manual transmission models are equipped with Active Safety Suite. The system has features like Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Plus, this Toyota is super light at 2,811 pounds with the aluminum hood, front fenders, and roof panel – making it one of the lightest sports cars on the market.
The naturally aspirated 2.4-liter FA-24 engine has 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This makes this N Charlotte Toyota go from 0-60 in just 6.1 seconds for the 6-speed manual transmission and 6.6 seconds for the six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
Finally, you can go into track mode with the push of a button and switch off vehicle stability control.
Tumblr media
What does the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition interior and exterior look like?
As mentioned earlier, this N Charlotte Toyota sportscar is an homage to the Toyota AE86, which is very popular in the anime and manga community because of the anime ‘Initial D’. If you don’t know – although you should – Initial D is about a character named Takumi Fujiwara and his rise to being a downhill racing hero in his Toyota AE86. Since the anime is so well known, the Toyota AE86 has been coined the ‘initial D car’. Now, let’s get into what the modern initial D car will look like when you first take a look:
To start with a bang, it will come with a number plate that marks the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition.
It comes with a black-wrapped hood, black TRUENO Edition side panels, and a black duckbill spoiler.
As a tribute to the 1980s model, this N Charlotte Toyota sports car will have a ‘TRUENO Edition’ badge on the front bumper lip and rear decklid.
Also, other accents this ride will have are black metallic 18-inch, 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheels with black door handles and mirror caps.
This is what you’ll step into:
Ultrasuede sport seats that are trimmed with red leather, a red-stitched shift boot, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
‘TRUENO Edition’ shift knob and all-weather floor mats.
Finally, an 8-inch touchscreen has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Those features are complemented with 8 premium speakers to rock out to on your drive.
Tumblr media
2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition Price
We don’t have the exact MSRP of the 2024 Toyota GR68 TRUENO Edition, but we can guesstimate that it will be around $35k-40k because the 2023 Toyota GR86’s starting price is $28,400. And with all the special features and it being limited, there will be an obvious bump in the price.
Tumblr media
Stop by Toyota of N Charlotte
If you want to get behind the wheel of this sports car, then stop by Toyota of N Charlotte! Also, stay posted on our social media for any updates about this ride. We’re located at 13429 Statesville Road. Take exit 23 off I-77 in Huntersville.

4 reasons to get the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition
Toyota is revving its engines for the 2024 Toyota GR lineup - and a new trim is being added to the 2024 Orlando Toyota GR86 lineup: the TRUENO Edition (it means ‘thunder’ in Spanish). Many Toyota fans are excited about this trim because it celebrates its throwback design - the Toyota AE86 from the 1980s. But, what does this trim have that makes it so special? We’re going to make it simple for you.
Tumblr media
What we love about the 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition
#1: The design – and its throwback features
The Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition features retro two-toned paint and ‘TRUENO Edition’ badging. As said earlier, it is styled like the Toyota AE86 as an homage to its 40th anniversary. The Toyota AE86 was a part of the 5th generation of Toyota Corollas from 1984 to 1987 and showcased sporty liftback styling, pop-up headlights, and an angular hood.  But, it also has a modern look with its 10-spoke 18-inch black metallic wheels, a black duckbill spoiler, the black TRUENO graphics on the side panels, and two paint colors to choose from - Halo or Track bRed.
Tumblr media
#2 - See what’s inside
We talked about the exterior – now it’s time to go inside this Orlando Toyota’s cockpit. When you go inside you’ll see that it is extremely comfortable and easy to manage with the low-slung, driver-centric layout with the push-start button, 8-inch touchscreen audio system with 8 premium speakers. You’re going to be sitting in Ultrasuede sport seats with red leather, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, special all-weather floor mats with ‘TRUENO’ badging, and red-stitched shift gear.
Since the beginning of time, Toyota has been all about safety – and it doesn’t stop at this Orlando Toyota sportscar. It comes standard with Active Safety Suite with Pre-Collision Braking System, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Sway Warning, and Automatic High Beams.
Tumblr media
#3 - The speed.
Toyota has never failed when it comes to reliability - and if you want to go 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds? You’ll be able to with the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition. This Orlando Toyota sportscar can do this with its naturally aspirated 2.4L FA-24 engine – the horsepower is 228 and the torque is at 184 lb.-ft. It also has rear-wheel drive and comes in both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition has special perks – and even if you aren’t able to get it on your hands, you can add it to any GR86 year and/or trim. The special performance package includes ZF SACHS Dampers and Brembo brakes that offer maximized performance. This new package ensures firm and stable steering, maximized ground contact, and a quieter cabin.
Tumblr media
#4 - The NASA membership
The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition comes with a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association – which makes your experience even better. With this membership, the 860 GR86 TRUENO Edition owners (yes we said 860) will be able to receive discounts on NASA-sanctioned events and other benefits – like one free High-Performance Driving Event.
Channel the Initial D car in this new Toyota special edition
Not only Toyota sportscar fans are excited about this trim being added to the Orlando Toyota GR86 lineup - but also anime fans. Initial D is a manga-turned-anime that focuses on the evolution of Takumi Fujiwara where he becomes a downhill racing hero in a Toyota AE86 – which the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition takes stylistic cues from. So, the car has been coined the name ‘initial D car’.
See a new 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition in person

*smoking a Robot cigarette* what are the odds of a B-Fighter cameo in a Ohger special…They’re seemingly doing something for metal heroes 40th and the Bug Sentai with machine elements would be the best chance of them appearing…..
that would be the stuff of dreams. so unfortunately i think it will remain a dream

notes on my portrayal of Hawkwoman, previously known as Hawkgirl
First off, here's summaries for the "canon" versions of her that I'm taking bits of inspiration from:
Shayera Hol (DCAU): she was an advance scout for the Thanagarians who ended up siding w/Earth. Eventually, she has a kid w/John Stewart, after breaking off her engagement to Thanagarian Hro Talak. She barely interacts w/Carter Hall, her reincarnated lover from Ancient Egypt. Thanagarians have natural wings and an enhanced physiology & look 30 when they're a century old. She's got red hair and green eyes.
Shayera Hol; née Thal (Prime Earth): she's the reincarnation of the angel Shrra, who was cursed by The Presence when she spoke to Ktar Deathbringer, a servant of an evil entity. In her modern life, she was a Thanagarian officer who came to Earth w/her partner Katar Hol. They joined the JSA as heroes. Later, she becomes the empress of Thanagar Prime. She & Katar sacrifice themselves. The Presence talks to them in their original identities & they ask to be reincarnated in the 40s w/the JSA. They survive to the 40th Century. She's got red hair as Shrra and Shayera, but Shrra has dark brown eyes while Shayera has green eyes.
Shiera Sanders (New Earth): 1st life was as Chay-Ara. She & Prince Khufu were killed by Hath-Set using a dagger made of Nth Metal. The dagger started their reincarnation cycle. In the 20th century, the couple became heroes using belts of Nth Metal. Radiation slowed their aging. Their son Hector Hall would become Dr. Fate. She's got brown hair and brown eyes.
Kendra Muñoz-Saunders (Earth-2): because of her reputation as a treasure hunter, the World Army hired her and gave her wings. She works with the new heroes the Flash (Jason Garrick) and Green Lantern (Alan Scott). She has enhanced senses and she's highly skilled w/both handguns and the crossbow. She's got brown hair and hazel eyes.
Shayera ? (DC New Talents Showcase): She's a Thanagarian cop who poses as a human, telling her Chicago colleagues that she's on loan from the GCPD.
Here's the parts I'm using:
In her current life, she's Shayera Thal/Muñoz.
Reincarnation's due to the combination of her previous life, Kesi, successfully praying to the goddess Aset--asking Aset to heal her beloved (Tanus) who had been fatally stabbed, by using Kesi's life to save him--and the blade's Nth Metal.
She has auburn hair and hazel eyes in her current form (she changes her appearance when she reincarnates).
Shayera has never gone by Hawkgirl as an adult, just Hawkwoman.
She's a Thanagarian cop who came to Earth to investigate a case, then decided to stay on the planet to study human police.
Her Nth metal mace (which has been used by pretty much every version of the character) has the following properties: generates electricity (for attacks or defibrillation), easily disturbs/blocks magic, generates heat, regulates the wearer's body temperature.
She prefers using her mace, but her subconscious retains weapon proficiency from her past lives, allowing her to use handguns and a crossbow with little fault.
She'll have an AU where she's the empress of Thanagar.

This Month in History - June
Here are the landmark anniversaries I am raising a glass to this month:

June 8, 2018: Won’t You Be My Neighbor? opens
Tumblr media
In June 2018, Morgan Neville’s documentary on Mister Rogers was released. I first saw it at IFFBoston 2018 and I named it my #1 Documentary of 2018 and my #4 Documentary of the 2010s. This is a doc about a decent man using children’s television to promote kindness towards others was exactly the movie we needed during the late 2010s! Happy 5 WYBMN?!
June 16, 1978: Grease opens
Tumblr media
In June 1978, the 50s nostalgia musical to end all 50s nostalgia musicals was released in movie theaters. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 45 Grease!
June 17, 1983: Superman III opens
Tumblr media
In June 1983, the third feature-length Superman movie was released. This is the movie that everyone hates, that I dug. My Dad took me to see it as a kid and I really got into it. Over the years it has been raked over the coals for Richard Pryor’s distracting (but insanely funny) performance, the visual effects, and the fear of computers during the PC boom of the 80s. But my biggest argument for why this movie is awesome is that scene when the evil Superman fights Clark Kent. What an amazing scene in super hero movie history! Happy 40th Superman III!
June 17, 1983: Synchronicity released
Tumblr media
In June 1983, the 5th and final album from The Police was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 40th Synchronicity!

31 Hollywood Icons Who Served in the U.S. Military
On this Memorial Day, millions of Americans across the country are honoring our military heroes, observing, and reflected on those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This list highlights some of the actors, directors, singers, producers, and entertainers who’ve served in the U.S. military.
From Hollywood’s earliest days, artists have served in the U.S. armed forces. Some had broader experiences than others in service to the country And many Hollywood greats served in World War II.
Jimmy Stewart
James Stewart not only joined the US Air Force in 1941, he ended his service in 1968 as a Brigadier General in the USAF Reserves. Stewart’s service was not for show, either. He flew many bombing missions over Germany and Nazi-occupied Europe.
Kirk Douglas
The famed movie tough guy joined the US Navy in 1941 and served as a communications officer in anti-submarine warfare. He received a medical discharge thanks to war injuries in 1944.
Clark Gable
Though he was already a veritable old man in soldier years, Gable joined the U.S. Army Air Corp at 43 and few five combat missions as an observer-gunner. Gable joined after his wife, Carol Lombard, died in a plane crash while flying home after a tour to promote war bonds.
Audie Murphy
Maj. Audie Murphy went into the Army as a private and won many battle field promotions. He is one of the most widely decorated actors in Hollywood history. He is the only actor/celebrity to be awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor. In addition, he was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, a Legion of Merit with Combat V, and two Bronze Stars with Combat V. He also received several foreign awards were especially impressive. He received the French Forrager, Legion of Honor, and Croix de Guerre with Palm and Silver Star, and the Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 with Palm.
Other stars of the era who served include Jason Robards (Navy 1941), Paul Newman (Navy, 1943), and Mel Brooks (Army, 1944). Then there was singer and dancer Josephine Baker who was a secret collaborator with the French Resistance to the Nazi invaders and was even awarded the Croix de Guerre as a spy for her work to defeat the Nazis. Several others served in the forces of their native nations including David Niven (Royal Army), Sir Alec Guinness (Royal Navy), and Audrey Hepburn (Dutch Resistance), and Star TrekActor James Doohan (Royal Canadian Army). Doohan was part of the D-Day invasion forces, was wounded six times losing a finger in the process, and later joined the Canadian Air Force as a pilot.
Ronald Reagan
Our 40th president, Ronald Reagan, was already a star when he joined the war effort. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, enlisting in the Army Enlisted Reserve on 29 April 1937 and ordered to active duty on April 19, 1942. Because of his eyesight, he was not assigned to an air crew and instead helped make over 400 training films for the Army Air Force.
Sidney Poitier
Sidney Poitier, the first black American to win an Academy Award, enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II in November of 1943. He served as a physiotherapist for almost a year, even though he lied about his age, as he was only 16 when he joined.
B.B. King
B.B. King, one of the greatest blues guitarists, was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1944, but was quickly released back into civilian life following boot camp because the government deemed his original profession — a tractor-trailer driver — to be vital to the war economy.
Hugh Hefner
Later to be known as the swinger editor of Playboy Magazine, Hugh Hefner joined the U.S. Army in 1944 after graduating high school. Hef didn’t see any acton, though, and was discharged in 1946 after serving as an Amy newspaperman and infantry clerk.
Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett, the legendary “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” crooner, was drafted during World War II in 1944 and assigned to the 63rd Infantry Division, or “Blood and Fire” division, fighting in France and Germany. Being a “replacement” was not an easy job as the war was winding down in Europe. About half these soldiers died in the months after basic training in 1944 and the end of the war in Europe in Sept. of 1945.
After the big war, many others continued the tradition, of course.
Gene Hackman
The actor, who won an Academy Award for Best Actor in The French Connection, enlisted in the Marine Corps the year after World War Two ended in1946. He lied about his age to get accepted, as he was only 16 when he enlisted.
Willie Nelson
The Always On My Mind singer volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1950. However, he only served nine months and was given a medical discharge due to severe back problems.
Johnny Cash
Johnny “The Man In Black” Cash enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and technical training at Brooks Air Force Base, both in San Antonio, Texas, he was assigned to the 12th Radio Squadron Mobile of the U.S. Air Force Security Service at Landsberg, West Germany. He mustered out in 1954.
Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood was drafted in 1951 for service during the Korean War. Eastwood saw no action, though, and spent his service at Ft. Ord in California, where he was appointed as a lifeguard and projectionist of training films.
David Janssen
Perhaps best known as the man on the lam in the 60s TV series, The Fugitive, Janssen didn’t escape the U.S. Army having served from 1952 to 1954 at Fort Ord, California. He saw no action during the Korean War as he served in the entertainment division during his two-year stint.
Martin Milner
Like his army pals Clint Eastwood and David Janssen, Adam 12 star Martin Milner served a two-year stint in the Army and was based at Fort Ord, California. Also like his buddies Eastwood and Janssen, there he worked in the entertainment sector. He mustered out in 1954 and went right into TV and film work in Hollywood.
Robert Duvall
Robert Duvall enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Principia College in 1953. Duvall has disputed early biographies that claimed he fought during the Korean War, though. He has joked that he “barely qualified” with his M-1 rifle in basic training. He served two years, and never got past the rank of private first class.
Leonard Nimoy
Later to become famous as Star Trek’s half human, half alien Mr Spock, Leonard Nimoy enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He served for 18 months between 1953 and 1955. Nimoy also worked in the Army’s Special Services narrating plays and performing in training films.
James Earl Jones
The voice of Star Wars villain Darth Vader, a man who has been referred to as “one of the greatest actors in American history,” served in the Army during the Korean War, rising to the rank of first lieutenant. Jones missed the war, though, as he started his service in 1953 just as the war was coming to a close.
Alan Alda
Best known for playing an Army surgeon in the TV series M.A.S.H., Alda did serve in the actual military when he volunteered after finishing his studies at Fordham University. He served as a gunnery officer during a six-month tour of duty in the Korean War.
Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman turned down a scholarship for acting and instead joined the Air Force in which he served from 1955 to 1959. He served as a radar technician and mustered out as an Airman 1st Class. Freeman has said that he enjoyed his service experience until, that is, he was being scouted to be trained as a jet pilot. He said the reality that war means killing dawned on him at that time and he began to look for the exit door to get back to life as an actor.
Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley’s drafting in 1957 was huge news and the media followed him throughout his years of service. Elvis honorably served his term and mustered out as a sergeant in 1960.
Chuck Norris
Famed martial artist Chuck Norris joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served his full term, being discharged in 1962. He was ultimately assigned to Osan Air Base in South Korea where he began to develop his signature martial arts style, Chun Kuk Do.
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix had a bit less gratifying service having been forced into the Army or face jail time for car theft in 1961. He served only one year before being discharged for an ankle injury. Some researchers suggest that the injury was just the Army’s excuse to be rid of the troublesome rocker.
John Fogerty
Singer-songwriter John Fogerty joined up in 1966 when his draft number neared. He signed up for the United States Army Reserve as a supply clerk. However, he was switched to active duty for six months, anyway, but saw no service under fire. He was discharged honorably in 1968.
Tom Selleck
Tom Selleck was already an actor when he was drafted during the Vietnam War in 1967. He served six years in the the 160th infantry regiment of the California National Guard.
Oliver Stone

Pat Sajak
Pat Sajak volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1968. While he saw no battlefield action in Vietnam, Sajak did serve as an Army Radio disc jockey and ended up in country, anyway, when he was assigned to host a radio program on Armed Force Radio broadcasting in Saigon.
R. Lee Ernmey
Everyone knows R. Lee Ermey as the intense drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, but some may not know that he served in the Marines for a decade, was a real Drill Instructor, and saw service in Vietnam in 1968. He started out as a Repair Shop Mechanic and went on to earn the Good Conduct Medal (x2); the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star; the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device; the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit; Meritorious Unit; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; and a Meritorious Unit Citation.
Ice-T
Musician, songwriter, and rapper Tracy Lauren Marrow — better known in the music scene as Ice-T and also for his long-running starring role on TV’s Law & Order SVU — joined the U.S. Army in 1979 after graduating high school. He served the 25th Infantry Division for four years.
Drew Carey
TV funny man and game show host Drew Carey served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves starting in 1980. He was honorably discharged in 1986 and he says that he adopted the Marines crew cut and horn-rimmed glasses as his trademark look due to his service.
Adam Driver
Adam Driver, who found fame as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars series, joined the U.S. Marines shortly after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. He was briefly assigned to the Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, before being medically discharged due to an injury.

Three Heroes: Various!BNHA x Reader (Part 4)
This is a Todoroki x Bakugo x Reader x Midoriya fanfic, inspired by the My Hero Academia movie: Two Heroes, the storyline will be adjusted due to the readers presence. The reader is All Might's Daughter. Read on and I hope you enjoy!
Warning(s): Blood, Violence, Fluff, Poly!Relationship, mature content, and swearing, etc.
--
You all were climbing the stairs, the footsteps of you and your classmates echoing through the halls as you rushed passed the giant floor numbers. Passing by Level 20, you all turned the corner and proceeded to climb, progressing to the 30th floor after running nonstop.
You all paused as you stopped at the large printed numbers, 30, you turned towards Melissa, who was the last to appear at the end of the steps. "Melissa, how many floors are there?" Iida questioned as he and Izuku stopped next to you.
"We need to get to the 200th floor!" She huffed out, panting in slight exhaustion.
Your eye's widened slightly, Kaminari and Mineta gapped almost in horror, "There's what?" Kaminari questioned.
"That's way too many stairs!" Mineta groaned.
Momo shook her head, "But it's way better than running into the villains!"
You all nodded before continuing, you ran beside Shouto and Izuku, you all panting slightly, yet determined to keep going as you passed the next few floors. Passing by the 40th, 50th, 60th, all the way to the 80th floor, where you skidded to a stop as you found the stairwell blocked by a metal barrier. Iida stops next to you before frowning, "It's blocked!" Everyone comes up to see, panting. God, you hated stairs.
"What should we do, break through it?" Shouto suggested.
Melissa stared at the emergency precaution barrier, "If we did that, I'm sure the security system would alert the villains." She said.
You frowned before you turned as Mineta began to pull at an emergency door handle, "What about this one?" You gasped as he pulled it and opened it, alerting the system.
"Mineta!"
"No, don't!"
"Hold on!"
Of course you were all to late but, since you had no other option, you all had to keep going, so you all ran through the doorway and down the hall.
"Is there another way to go up?" Shouto questioned as we all ran, you glanced towards Melissa.
"There should be another emergency stair case at the end of the hall!"
You looked forwards as there was suddenly a loud sound and a few meters ahead, a metal barrier struck the ground, locking in place before it repeated a few meters closer. You gritted your teeth, "They're closing us off!" You said before you caught sight of a metal door a few feet away, but it was about to be blocked by a barrier.
"Shouto/Todoroki!"
He already understood and his ice spread like a wildfire, "I'm on it!" His ice quickly spreads and spears forwards, stopping the barrier from fully closing. You and Iida quickly jump over the opening before sprinting towards the closed doorway, it wouldn't open for us now but it would be no problem to break it down.
You brought up a charged fist, your power, however, charging through your legs as well, unwillingly, you didn't have time to worry though as you and Iida hit the metal doorway full force. With loud battle crys, you both blasted the doorway apart and skidded to a stop in the smoke. You looked around seeing the greenery around you suddenly, it was like a giant greenhouse, the glass windows surrounding the place we're locked from the outside. "This way everyone!" Iida called out to the group.
You could still feel the energy coursing through your legs, you winced slightly as you suddenly felt your heart throbbing. "Dammit..." you cursed silently, placing a hand over your heart with a soft pant, you had forgotten about taking your jewel with you. It helped you regulate the power flow of your quirk, but now that it was so messy and free, it let loose everytime you summoned it. Your chest clenched unwillingly, it didn't hurt so much now, but you had to remind yourself not to use your power as much now, without your power director with every use you'd be vulnerable to the pain that blossomed in your chest.
As Izuku and Shouto came through, they could see the pained look on your face as you placed a hand over your chest. They both understood immediately, having known of your condition for a while now. They both ran over to you, sharing worried looks, "(y/n) are you alright?" Shouto asked, his hand on your arm as Izuku took your hand.
"Are you ok? Does it hurt? You shouldn't use your power too much with out your converter, it's not safe!" He frowned, paling as you gave him a forced smile, straightening up, he could see the way your hand shook as you gave the both a thumbs up.
"It's ok. I'll be ok, don't worry," you looked between them both before everyone else came through the hole in the wall and you had to keep moving again. Shouto and Izuku shared a glance, frowning slightly together, before running after you.
As you all moved forwards, Jirou stopped and had a hand out, "Hold on!" You all stopped, "Look!" She pointed forwards where there was an elevator door, you could see the numbers climbing, you gasped. "The elevators coming up!"
"Don't tell me the villains found us!" Mineta paled.
You turned to look around, "We need to hide, before they get here!"
"We should let them pass! Quick, everybody!" Izuku ran over to a large bush for everyone to fit, we all squeezed together, you squatted down between the boys and watched as the elevator came to this floor.
It opened and you sank deeper down into the bush, you could feel everyone basically beginning to panic. You didn't want to have to fight anyone, you weren't even at the 100th floor yet, if you were delayed now, you may never get to the 200th floor. Please, they had to pass! Please don't see us!
"Of all places, they had to pick somewhere with a hiding spot," the villain groaned, walking forwards with his partner beside him. "Well they said the kids are here," the other one said.
You could hear them stomp down, once, "Hey!" You squeezed your lips together, "We see you! Damn kids!"
You felt Shouto's and Izuku's grip on your sides tense and you couldn't help your hands suddenly charging up with energy. Would you really have to face them?
"Whaddya say ya bastard?"
You gasped, perking up, your head coming above the bush alittle to see, it was Katsuki. And Kirishima. "What are you two doing here?" They were both face to face with the two villains, you noted their bullet proof vests and luckily lack of guns, they definitely had quirks if they were so confident to go against you all.
"Hmph! That's what I wanna know too!" Katsuki stepped forwards, obviously suspicious of the men.
You could see Katsuki sneering in disgust from here, but kirishima pulled him back, "Let me handle this!" Kirishima offered, seeing Katsuki about to explode. "Um, we kinda got lost looking for this party," he responded honestly, so they had no idea what was happening? "Can you, maybe, point us in the right direction?" How the hell do you get lost to a reception on the 80th floor, how the hell did they even get up here?
The taller villains hand suddenly enlarged, turning webbed and giant, something building inside of it. "Don't lie to me! Or you'll regret it!" He leaned forwards before hurling his attack straight for Kirishima.
Oh no.
"Hey, watch out!"
"Kirishima!"
There was a wave of ice before there was a purple wave wave of energy that combined itself with it, like a binding, it secured itself around the ice. Katsuki skids in front of it, stopping next to Kirishima who sat on the floor, shocked to have been attacked. "This is..." Katsuki turns towards you both, seeing your hands moving to bind your energy and Shouto still crouched down.
Katsuki immediately freezes upon seeing you, even once you put your hands down and sigh in relief as he's unharmed. That dress..you looked...amazing. He was freezing up again, his mouth running dry as his eye's run over your frame and capture your look. Your hair perfectly framing your beautiful face and that dress hugging you perfectly. Although you were sweaty and tired, you've never looked so hot or badass. God dammit, he loved you. "(Y/n)..." he breathes before grinning faintly as you both make eye contact. Your eye's brightening as you take in his outfit and the look on his face, you liked seeing him in formal wear, mostly because he never did it.
His grin hardly fades instantly as your hand goes to your chest, your eye's going wide as you're overcome by a sudden pain. Your eye's nearly get teary, you look away from him and grimace painfully as your heart throbs and your energy flickers through you. Katsuki couldn't help himself as he began running over to you, he knows what's happening, unfortunately he's seen it before. Your condition was no secret to him and that only made him worry more. "(Y/n)!" He called to you, you looked up at him, before you both heard a loud thud. Looking up, the ice behind your energized restraints began to break apart, you paled as, although they were struggling, they'd be out in no time.
Shouto acts quick, his hand going down to the ground once more to spread towards you and the group, "We'll take care of them down here! Find a way to get to the top!" He demands before you can stop him, you feel your shoes being stuck to the ice, glaring at Shouto you notice him make eye contact with you. You collapse to your knees.
"Shouto! Katsuki!" You shout, angry at Shouto for sending you up when you could've helped them. Although you knew you'd be more a hindrance between the three, with your power hurting you more than if was helping.
"(Y/n), we'll be fine! Icyhot, shitty hair and I've got this you were surprised to hear Katsuki reassuring you, he looked at you with urgency, his eyes worried for you. "We'll be up there after we deal with these assholes, ok! Wait for us! Don't do anything stupid with Deku over there!"
Your eye's widened before you nodded as the ice pillar became taller and taller, finally stopping by a walkway a few hundred feet off the ground.
"What's going on? You guys are here too?" Kirishima asked before walking closer to Shouto, confused km the situation. "What the hell going on, todoroki?"
He looks over at the two, 'You hadn't heard the broadcast alert?" This redheads confused look gives the answer away, "never mind then, some villains have taken over the tower!"
Bakugo and Kirishima look at him in shock, "What?!"
"That's what this is about?" Bakugo seethed, surprised.
That's when the villains finally broke through the ice and your barrier, a man, shorter than his friend walked out with his partner and angrily roared, "So, you wanna pick a fight huh?" He shook, turning his skin sickening, bruised purple and his body growing in size. "Let's see how touch you really are!" His clothes ripped and his large fists twice and big, ready to pummel.
Todoroki didn't hesitate, his ice cold hand moving forwards to send a seige of ice barreling towards the monstrous man. He surprised at how easily he ends up breaking it apart, roaring and punching his way through until Todoroki, Bakugo, and Kirishima are forced to jump away from him. Bakugo, however, charges up a blast, his palm igniting with explosions before he thrusts his palm forwards into the monsters back. "Die!"
There's a loud explosion and he hears the groan of his enemy, bakugo lands in a crouch, stunned once the villain is up in seconds and a giant fist is hurtling towards him. He doesn't react quick enough, but Kirishima luckily pushes him out of the way hardens his body quickly. His arm's taking the impact before he's sent soaring backwards, through todoroki's wall of ice and into the far wall.
"Kirishima!"
"Dodge!" Todoroki shouts.
Bakugo does so and bursts upwards as todoroki presses his foot down and ice is sent forwards at a blistering speed. The other villain slashes at the cold substance as it spreads spreads to envelope him. Leaping away Bakugo and Todoroki end up back to back, "you boys know how to fight, don't ya?"
"Where'd you come from?" The larger villain on all fours questions. Facing both villains the two student hero's frown as their hands once more are filled with their quirks.
"Right! Like we'd tell a couple of weak, ass villains!" Bakugo smirks, his palms lighting up with explosions.
"Why would we tell you anything?" Todoroki's palm once more is covered in a layer of ice.
Before the two engage in a fight, however, Bakugo turns his head slightly towards Todoroki, "Oi, icyhot, what happened to my girl?" He questioned the boy, Shouto glances at him before his expressions changes as he remembers your pained look briefly. "She can't be fighting like this ya know, not without her conductor."
"I know," Shouto says. "She didn't bring it. No one expected us to have to be fighting for our lives Bakugo."
Bakugo glared at the boy for that last comment, "Well next time be more mindful! She shouldn't be fighting at all!" He said before blasting forwards. Shouto pauses for a moment before following his lead, using his ice to glide forwards in the opposite direction.
Smashing through the door in front of the group, midoriya and Iida run through it, looking around, shocked to find no other way to go, every other way was blocked.
You stepped out of the blasted doorway, frowning as everyone began to question where to go, was this as far as we go? No, it couldn't be...huh?
Your eye's narrowed in surprise as you found yourself staring at a vent on the far ceiling, you pointed up to it, "Hey, Melissa," you got her attention, "Where does that vent lead too? Over there!" You asked her, everyone following your gaze before gasping.
Melissa looked up at it. "It must lead to the maintenance room for the sunlight system!"
Iida brightens up, grinning. "There's probably an emergency ladder in the maintenance room, right?"
"Yes, but it's a manual release, so someone would have to be inside to let it down for us," Melissa said, frowning at the realization.
Ochaco slumped. "Is this it? We can't go any further?"
Your fists clenched, the explosions and cursing from bakugo and the destructive thuds and cooling temperature from Todoroki slowly getting to you. You wanted to help them but if this is as far as we could get, how could you all help everyone else. There had to be a way! "No, there's still a chance!" You announce before your hand is soon lighting up with a ball of energy as everyone turns to you. You throw the energy blast to the vents surface and watch as the entrance explodes, "Someone can climb through, climb the exterior wall and open the ladder from the inside!"
Everyone brightens up once more, the idea becoming a reality. "Oh, right! There has to be another vent waiting inside!"
"But, who can climb through the vent and climb the exterior wall without falling?" Izuku mutters.
Everyone turns to Mineta, who immediately backs up from his suicidal classmates, "No! No, I can't! Do you have any idea how far up we are?" He stiffens entirely as Kaminari comes up behind a him to wrap an arm around his shoulder.
"If you save everyone and become a celebrity, you'll be famous and have girls everywhere!" Kaminari gave gave a perverted thumbs up, you glared at him for encouraging the boys already perverted nature. "Plus, I'd think the girls here would be might thankful for doing this, don't you thimk?"
Jirou and Ochaco lean down to the grape head, "Please, Mineta!"
"Just imagine the harem!" Kaminari swoons.
Mineta takes one glance at you, your tight dress, before his face builds with tears and his hands are grabbing the air once more, "Oh man! Ok, fine I'll do it, whatever!" Tears stream down his face, terrified.
Soon, you and the rest of the group are climbing the stairs to the maintenance room, you were climbing before Izuku, he was right below you when he noticed you had stopped and he made the decision to look up. It just so happens he'd be looking straight up your dress, a simple draft blowing through your dress and giving him a great view of your round backside in black lace underwear. He can't look away, until you start moving again after Iida finally enters the maintenance room and you hop up to climb into the room. Izuku takes the last few shaky steps up the ladder, his eyes wide and his face red as a beet, he can swear his pants feel alittle tight now.
"Zuku, are you ok?"
He stiffens, before turning his he's towards you, swallowing harshly although his throat feels dry. He gives you a shaky thumbs up, his ears burning, "Y-yeah, I'm fine," he assures you, before you smile at him and turn to follow the rest of the group, his gaze flickers down and he finds himself staring at the sway of your hips.
"Boss!" From the higher floors, one of the villains, a white haired man, with dark goggles stares at the security footage as well as glancing towards the identification list, he speaks into his comm where he knows his leader is listening. "These are no ordinary kids in the tower," he glares at the identification pictures on the screens. "They're students from U.A. high's hero course. They're well-trained," He says before glancing at one photo in particular, "All Might's Daughter is with them, she hasn't escaped like we thought."
He chuckles darkly, glancing at All Might briefly, "Good, make sure she doesn't leave. Although, I doubt she will," Then, the boss growls bitterly, "But, they're after the security system. They're heading to reroute it. Be on high alert!" He then continued, "Now since you've sent the security drones to the 80th floor, raise any barriers from floors 100 to 130 and let them pass freely," he orders.
The two villains on the other side of the speaker stiffen, "But, sir-" They're interrupted.
"Just do what I say." He demands before smirking, "and one last thing, leave the girl to me," he orders, his head turning to look at the number one hero, restrained on the stage. He grin's psychotic before turning away and ending the conversation on the other side of the device.
All Might grits his teeth, sneering at the villain as he mentions his daughter, he let's out a grunt as he feels his form deteriorating, before he flexes with a groan. That Villain was threatening you. He had to get to you, you were still in danger and he didn't like that look in the villains eyes.
"It seems like we've gotten pretty lucky," Kaminari started as you all proceeded, running down the empty, open hallway. To say you were all surprised was an understatement, they had locked down all the halls, hadn't they? The security system didn't just stop at the higher floors, if anything it would've been stronger. "The paths been clear since he 100th floor."
"Do you think we lost them maybe?" Ochaco wondered.
"That can't be it, they still have cameras on every floor. They're still watching us," you said, glancing at a side camera at the corner of a locked down window.
"Its possible they're leading us somewhere!" Momo said, panting as she ran.
"Even so, we're so close to the top floor." Izuku said, running to the edge of the hallway. "We're so close to this being over!" You hoped he was right. Your hand came to rest against your chest as you ran, the pain had subsided but there was a light throb every moment and you couldn't help but feel like it wasn't a good sign. You reached into your thigh pouch as you ran, alittle behind the group, you pulled out a small pill, it was apart of the medication you made for your father. You had no choice, if you wanted to be useful you had to get the pain under control. You breathed deeply, biting your lip before making your decision and taking the pill quickly. The medication wasn't meant for you, it was meant to withstand the effects of One for All, you may not feel much of anything, at least if you don't push yourself too far.

Tokusatsu Streaming Guide: Where to Watch Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and More
https://ift.tt/2VR6eGr
Ten years ago a fan of Tokusatsu (Japanese special effects shows, mostly superheroes) could have never imagined the access we’d have to these programs today. Back then official releases of anything outside of the American adaptations, particularly Power Rangers, seemed like a far off dream. However in the past few years especially there’s been a slow trickle of Toku shows becoming available to stream in North America.
In the last few months though that trickle became a waterfall as several new services have quickly become mainstays, finally allowing Toku fandom to finally enjoy their favorite shows legally. This also allows more casual fans a chance to experience these shows for the first time and that’s who this guide is mostly for. If you’re curious about the wider world of Tokusatsu and need a place to start, this guide should cover your bases for the many kinds of Toku series out there.
Just as a note, we are only discussing shows that are legally available. This also isn’t a comprehensive list. Many of the streaming services mentioned below have multiple Toku series available, we’re just picking a small sample. With that in mind, let’s dive into this ocean of Toku, shall we?
Kamen Rider (1971)
Available on TokuSHOUTsu (Shout Factory TV/tubi/Pluto)
The release that shocked and delighted Toku fans, the original series in the long running Kamen Rider franchise may be old but that doesn’t detract from its enjoyment. This is Toku in its purest form. Incredible fights, trippy special effects, bizarre monsters, and a strikingly bleak backstory for the main character.
Hongo Takeshi is kidnapped by the evil Shocker and transformed against his will into a cyborg. Worrying if his humanity is intact, Hongo still fights for justice as Kamen Rider. It may seem simplistic in our modern age of superheroes but there’s something enduringly appealing about Hongo’s quest to stop evil despite the wrongs that were inflicted on him.
Plus, come on, you can’t beat those trumpets that come in for damn near every music number. Highly recommend if you’re down for old school heroics or just want to enjoy some trippy 70’s TV.
Zyuranger (1992)
Available on TokuSHOUTsu (Shout Factory TV/tubi/Pluto)
Many people reading this are no doubt aware of Power Rangers, especially the original Mighty Morphin series. If you want to rock your world, you gotta check out the Super Sentai series Zyuranger. It’s as far from MMPR as you can imagine, with a team of dinosaur-evolved humans from 170 million years ago brought into the present day.

TokuSHOUTsu: Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and Super Sentai Coming to Streaming
By Shamus Kelley
The differences between it and MMPR will be the main draw for most and as you watch the series you’ll be impressed just how much the producers of Power Rangers were able to take this footage and remold it for America.
Ultraman Mebius
Available on TOKU
You can’t do a list about Tokusatsu without giving love to one of the big three, Ultraman. While the franchise’s original series sadly isn’t streaming (but you’ll be able to soon), you can’t go wrong with the 40th anniversary season Ultraman Mebius. Following the adventures of the rookie Mebius, the Ultra comes to Earth and joins up with the attack team (hilariously out of context) named GUYS. Mebius, GUYS, and even a few characters from past Ultraman series, fight off giant monsters attacking Earth.

Comics
Marvel Reveals Ultraman Details
By Shamus Kelley
Both a great introduction for new fans and rewarding for long time Ultra fans, Mebius is a fantastic show to jump headfirst into the hero that’s larger than life.
Garo
Available on HiDive
If you want something off the beaten path of the big three Tokusatsu franchises, Garo might be right up your alley. Feeling a bit darker than other Toku (and not just because much of the action taking place at night or in darker spaces), the series follows Makai Knight Kouga Saezima attempting to protect humanity against the evil “Horrors.” Along the way though he encounters Kaoru, who is set to die in 100 days, and he sets out to try and save her.
Everything from the look of the series to the designs of the Garo suit feel different from Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman and if you aren’t feeling the more traditional vibe of those series Garo might be right up your alley. It’s also the first in a very long and surprising franchise so if you like it, there’s a lot more to get into.
Space Sheriff Gavan
Available on Toei Tokusatsu World Official
The first of the not as often remembered Metal Heroes franchise (although some of the series in it were adapted into VR Troopers and Beetleborgs), Gavan stands out for just how wild it is from the jump. Sure there’s the story about Don Horror (wonder if he’s a bad guy!) trying to destroy Earth and Retsu Ichijouji (Gavan) being sent out to stop him but that’s all icing on the cake.

American Tokusatsu Shows: Big Bad Beetleborgs
By Shamus Kelley
Metal Heroes have a reputation for bonkers visuals along with great action and Gavan delivers in spades. From the opening seconds of the first episode we’re greeted with Gavan standing atop a robot dragon standing against a gloriously lush background of outer space. Lead actor Kenji Ohba is also stunning in his action scenes and he puts even the superheroes of today to shame with just how good he is in these hand-to-hand fights.
Love action? Love weirdness? Want to be cool and not go with the obvious choices? Gavan might be for you!
Android Kikaider
Available on Toei Tokusatsu World
An absolute smash hit in Hawaii that’s still talked about to this day, Kikaider is more classic ’70s Toku action if Kamen Rider wasn’t enough for you. Following the heroics of robot Jiro against the (obviously) evil DARK, the main draw of the series is not just the delightfully over the top action but also the compelling conflict between Kikaider and evil robot Hakaider.
We should also mention that while the first two episodes of all series on Toei Tokusatsu World are subtitled, further episodes that will be uploaded won’t have them and it’s being left up to fans to subtitle the rest. Even without subtitles though, Kikaider’s action should more than keep your attention.
Dynaman (Night Flight Dub)
Available on Night Flight Plus
Easily the strangest entry on this list, Night Flight’s Dynaman isn’t just the seventh entry in the Super Sentai series. Oh no, it’s a little known dub of the show that aired on USA Network’s Night Flight program in the ’80s. It’s a gag dub through and through and mostly relies on pop culture jokes and (and we’re being generous here) outdated humor.
Still, it’s a peek into one of the earliest examples of Toku being brought to America on a large scale. For that alone it’s worth checking out, especially for those interested in the history of Toku in America and exploring the “what if” of imagining this getting popular instead of Power Rangers.
Gridman The Hyper Agent
Available on TOKU
Bold proclamation to make, but Gridman has the absolute best design of any Tokusatsu hero ever. It takes what worked well enough for Ultraman but added extra detail in all the right places to create a truly iconic look for a hero.
Gridman follows three hip computer kids (Naoto, Ippei, and Yuka) whose videogame superhero is taken over by the interdimensional Gridman who then combines with Naoto. The computer hero fights against the digital monsters of the evil Kahn Digifer in some of the best looking fights of all the series we’ve mentioned. Some shows might have better action overall but the look of the computerized world of Gridman can’t be beat.

SSSS. GRIDMAN Episode 1 Review: Awakening
By Shamus Kelley
The show may look familiar to some American fans as its footage was used in Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. Gridaman also experienced a revival in the form of the SSSS.GRIDMAN anime, which redid some of the concepts of the original series with a few easter eggs to Syber-Squad for very hardcore fans.
Special Rescue Exceedraft
Available on Toei Tokusatsu World Official
Look, I’m going to be real with you. I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Exceedraft. I have no idea if the whole series is good. What I can tell you though is that the first episode is straight up the most batshit wild episode of any Toku I’ve ever seen. It’s like if someone took the plot of Speed and said:
“Aha, let’s do this but condense it down to 20 minutes, add in some shiny superheroes, and make it way more intense.” Also, the title of the episode is “The Kindergarten Bus of Death.” Just watch it. If you watch nothing else on this list, watch this episode. It’s Toku on, well, speed and it’s fantastic.
Jetman
Available on TokuSHOUTsu (Shout Factory TV/tubi/Pluto)
What if Super Sentai, but a soap opera? It’s not that Tokusatsu had never had soap opera elements before or after this series, but Jetman took that idea to a level that’s still being talked about today. When Red Ranger Ryuu’s partner is killed in an attack by the (say it with us now) evil Vyram, the powerful “Birdonic Waves” are unleashed on four unsuspecting civilians. Ryuu recruits them and they become the Jetman team.
With strong characterization from the start, Jetman stands out by jumping into the romance between team members as Ryuu struggles with his growing attraction to White Ranger Kaori. It’s standard soap opera stuff, with a love triangle thrown in for good measure (which would have been better if Kaori was given more agency), but if you love those tropes then Jetman might be the series for you.
As we said earlier, this is only a small sampling of some of the shows available on streaming sites in North America. What are some of your favorite Tokusatsu series that are available to watch and which ones do you hope are picked up in the future?

This Day In Music: 24 Dec 1945
Lemmy Kilmister is born.
Tumblr media
Ian Fraser Kilmister, better known as Lemmy was an English musician, singer, and songwriter who founded and fronted the rock band Motorhead. In the 1960s, Lemmy was a member of several rock bands, including the Rockin' Vickers, and worked as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix and the Nice before joining the space rock band Hawkwind in 1971, singing lead on their hit "Silver Machine." He died on December 28, 2015, after a brief battle with an extremely aggressive cancer.
Following Hawkwind, Lemmy formed "Bastard" with guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox. When his manager told him that a band called "Bastard" would never get a slot on Top of the Pops, Lemmy changed the name of the band to "Motörhead" – the title of the last song he had written for Hawkwind.
Soon after, Wallis and Fox were replaced by guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor, and the band began to achieve success with this lineup. Lemmy's guttural vocals were unique in rock at the time, and were imitated when punk rock gained popularity. The band's sound appealed to Lemmy's original fans as well as punk fans. Lemmy claimed that he felt more affinity with punks than metalheads; he even played with the Damned for a few gigs when they were without a regular bassist. The band's popularity peaked in 1980 and 1981, when they had several UK chart hits, including the single "Ace of Spades," which remained a fan favourite throughout the band's career, and the UK Number One live album, No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. Motörhead rose to prominence as one of the heavy metal genre's most influential bands. Their – and Lemmy's – final live performance was on December 11, 2015, in Berlin, Germany, as part of the band's 40th Anniversary Tour.
Lemmy was almost as well known for his off stage lifestyle as he was for his music, Dave Grohl once said, "We recorded [Lemmy's] track in Los Angeles in maybe two takes about a year and a half ago. Until then I'd never met what I'd call a real rock 'n' roll hero before. Fuck Elvis and Keith Richards, Lemmy's the king of rock 'n' roll. Lemmy's a living, breathing, drinking and snorting fucking legend. No one else comes close."

#OnThisDay September 20, 1980 @ozzyosbourne released his debut solo studio album #BlizzardOfOzz (EU) which charted at #7 on the @officialcharts and #21 on the @billboardcharts. The album is certified 5x platinum and contains the singles #CrazyTrain and #MrCrowley. I could remember buying my copy used (which is evidence by the pic displayed) and starting in chronological order (“Diary” was released already at the time also) being blown away by side one. Not the case with side two (not the biggest fan of “No Bone Movies” and #Revelation”) but regardless what a debut solo-wise by Ozzy and even more so, welcome to the rock world and immortality Randy Rhoads. A new guitar hero was born! Just as well credit huge contributions by bassist Bob Daisley and the recently passed away Lee Kerslake. Sometimes I marvel that this was same vocalist of @blacksabbath because the entities involved produced a new sound and legend that stands alone in its own merit in metal lore. What is known now is the first two solo efforts by Ozzy, Rhoads, Daisley and Kerslake are metal classics that was a road to a great start of Osbourne and his solo career. For this 40th anniversary it was perfect timing to revisit this release on my new @fluanceaudio turntable. Really enjoying this travel through time and remembering one of the earlier soundtracks of my high school years. #cassette #cassettetapes #compactdisc #cdcollection #cdcollector #instavinyl #vinylcommunity #vinylrecords #vinyljunkie #vinylcollector #vinylporn #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinyligclub #record #recordcollection #recordigclub #latergram #metal #heavymetal #BlackSabbath #RandyRhoads #Ozzy (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUDZk8PP2tG/?utm_medium=tumblr

GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR MUSEUM - PART 5, MINSK BELARUS - 04.08.2020
Tumblr media
GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR MUSEUM - PART 5 DATE - 4TH AUGUST 2020     LOCATION - MINSK, BELARUS     EPISODE - 16 / SERIES - 2       DESCRIPTION - The Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War was the world’s first museum to tell the story of the bloodiest war of the 20th century, and the only one in Belarus created during the years of Nazi occupation. Today it is one of the most important and biggest war museums in the world, along with the well-stocked museums in Moscow, Kiev, and New Orleans. In those terrible years Belarus lost every third resident. More than 3 million people died, including about 50,000 partisans and underground fighters. Throughout the country there were 250 death camps, including the infamous Trostenets, one of the largest after Auschwitz, Majdanek and Treblinka...The current premises of the museum are impressive not only due to their scale but also symbolism that reflects major milestones of the history of 1941-1945. The composition represents four main blocks to match the number of years of the war and the army fronts that took part in Belarus’ liberation. The front facade looks like a festive salute: 11 sparkling rays made of stainless steel to symbolize the Great Victory and at the same time 1,100 tragic days and nights of Minsk’s occupation. The serious sheen of the metal used for the decoration "speaks" of the war while the golden sparkle of the glass signifies the victory and the greatest treasure that is peace. Directly above is a 45-meter stela Minsk – Hero City. It was opened in 1985 for the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory. The sculpture Mother Motherland is located nearby. The Heroes Square is embellished by a fountain of 170 jets to match the number of Belarusian populated localities that were liberated by the Soviet army during the war.The museum has dedicated over 3,000m2 to over 8,000 exhibits that tell the story of the Great Patriotic War. There are about 145,000 rarities in the museum’s storage. They were collected during military operations in Eastern Europe and Germany and were presented by embassies of various countries in time of peace. The exhibits are divided into 28 collections and showcased in ten themed halls:  World and the war; World before and in the first years of World War II;  Road of the war; Beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Defense in Belarus in summer 1941. The battle of Smolensk. The battle of Moscow of 1941-1942; Turning point of the war. The Soviet home front;  Nazi occupation regime on the territory of Belarus in 1941-1944;  Partisan movement and anti-fascist underground resistance in Belarus. Participation of Soviet people in European resistance movements of 1941-1945; Liberation of Belarus. The defeat of the Nazi Germany, its allies, and the militarist Japan; Belarus after the liberation. The years 1944-1950. Memory of the war; Heirs of the Great Victory. The exposition ends in the magnificent Hall of Victory representing a glass dome of the Reichstag Building where the Soviet soldiers placed the Victory Banner in 1945. Inside the transparent dome is decorated with a stained-glass panel depicting a stork which is a symbol of Belarus. It offers a breathtaking view of the city, the Svisloch River and the Victory Park.

This weeks arrivals!
Firstly a little bit of housekeeping... The Warrnambool store will be CLOSED tomorrow. This will allow me to get to Geelong and restock (I heard it was busy there over the weekend!). Normally Narelle would be in the shop but, as we still have children at home for school this is not possible. However, with School starting back next week we should be back to Normal hours/days from next Tuesday going forward. The store will also be CLOSED for the Queens Birthday Holiday next Monday.
Imports from UK/EU/US are still not possible for the time being, freight is too difficult to organise when there are no planes coming to Australia.
So here are the latest new releases AWOLNATION "Angel Miners & The Lightning Riders", Benee combines her to EPs "Fire On Marzz / Stella & Steve" on a single Green LP. Aussie alt-rockers Custard have a new LP "Respect All Lifeforms" Modern Jazz legend Kurt Elling "Secrets Are The Best Stories" Melbourne band Shepparton Airplane have released "Sharks", Swedish punks ShitKid "Duo Limbo / Mellan Himmel å Helvete" which was partially recorded with Paul Leary from the Butthole Surfers! NZ Roots/Rockabilly queen Tami Neilson "Chicka Boom!" and Melbourne's Tony Dork has released "Struggle Street", a split 7" from Kim Salmon and The Scientists which was initially available with the Kim Salmon Biography "Nine Parts Water One Part Sand". On the heavier side, long running Polish Metal titans Vader have a new album "Solitude In Madness" as has My Dying Bride "The Ghost of Orion"
