Cine: Every Day (2018)

Seb liked a picture with a dog wearing a vote sticker by michaelsucsy. One of his latest posts is a repost from a guy who is gay and obviously a democrat. I truly don’t think Seb would like political pictures if he didn’t agree with his friends regarding his political stance.
I have hope!!

Super excited to be scrolling through Netflix and seeing my images being used to promote Every Day! It was the first film I shot mirrorless, using the Sony A7R2, instead of a sound blimp. I was hooked for life! Be sure to watch it! #cameracrew #filmlife #behindthescenes #directors #setlife #cameracrew #filmmaking #filmproduction #movie #bealpha #sonyalpha #alphauniverse #toronto #captureonepro #stillphotographer #adencamera #b3kdigital #photographer #photography #officialfstoppers #iatselocal667 @michaelsucsy @christiangrass @davidlevithan @angourierice @debbyryan #iatse667 #netflix #filmmakersworld (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/peterstranks/p/BvH3gnfBnQc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1myjh9usj4gb8

The Vow is a pleasant but forgettable date movie that came out last Valentine's Day. I didn't see it in theaters because, well, it's a very girly movie and I don't have a girlfriend to go see it with. Also, it didn't get very good reviews. Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum show that they seem like the friendliest, coolest, loveliest people on the planet. They try their best here, and the chemistry they have is natural, but they're working with a melodramatic story that's just too "blahh" for me. The only romantic drama date movie that I thought was very well done was The Notebook. It's predictable, yes, but undeniably beautiful. It's a movie that makes you laugh, smile, and cry by the end. And sure I'll admit, A Walk to Remember also gets to me every time I watch it on TV. There really hasn't been a great rom-dram date movie in a while.
McAdams and Tatum are Paige and Leo. They meet, fall in love, and get married in an art museum. One snowy night the two drive home from a movie. Leo stops at a stop sign where Paige takes off her seatbelt and moves over to give her hubby a kiss. A truck hydroplanes behind them and impacts the car. In a slow motion, pretty cheesy moment Paige goes halfway out the windshield. They go to the ER where Paige suffers from pretty serious brain damage. The doctor tells Leo that she'll survive but there might be some complications. When she wakes up she thinks Leo's her doctor. Uh oh. She's lost all her memories from the past couple of years! She has no memory of meeting Leo, falling for him, getting married, and living a happy life with him. Paige's parents (Sam Neill and Jessica Lange) show up and don't know who Leo is either. It turns out that Paige had been going to law school, was engaged to a guy named Jeremy (Scott Speedman), and then ran away and hadn't spoken to her parents since. They want their daughter to come live with them, obviously, because they haven't seen her in forever. Leo, however, doesn't wanna give up on her and convinces her to come live with him for a while so maybe her memory could come back.
Leo tries and tries to get her memory back but nothing helps. Paige understands that Leo is a nice guy and just wants his wife back but she can't force her love on him if she doesn't remember it. Is it possible for Paige to fall back in love with him without her old memory back? The incredible thing about The Vow is that it's actually inspired by a true story. Kim and Krickitt Carpenter were happily married until a car accident left Kim with brain trauma that erased her memories of her husband. Krickitt worked with her to try and make her remember and then, well, I won't say what happened because then I'll give away the ending of the movie. It's a very unique concept of whether it's possible or not to repeat the love you had with someone as a different person. Unfortunately, there are no tearjerking moments or beautiful moments between the leads for that matter. Like I said, McAdams and Tatum are great together. This is the script's fault. With a story like this you should cry and smile, but The Vow doesn't do that. It all feels so bland.
Also, the movie gets a little too overdramatic three-quarters in. Paige meets up with Jeremy again because she believes she's still engaged to him. He's already with somebody now but he starts to have feelings for her again. Seriously? I don't know if this actually happened to Kim and Krickitt because it just seems so Hollywood. Paige also soon discovers a secret about her parents and their marriage. I won't say what it is, but it just feels unnecessarily melodramatic again. If you love date movies with attractive people then The Vow is a movie for you. Just be advised, it's no The Notebook.

The stunningly beautiful and wonderfully amazing to work with, Debby Ryan. Shot on the set of Every Day, I did a series of stills of cast and crew in Black & White in addition to my other work as Stills Photographer.
