Middleman Announce New EP & Release New Single "Falls Apart"
Photo courtesy of the band. How can you predict who a band will be influenced by, or what they might end up sounding like? Middleman, still in their early 20s and very much embedded in the London punk scene, have a sound shaped by American punk and rock bands that had mostly burned out or imploded before they were even born. They embody that slight wonkiness found in greats like Mission Of…

But gold might not buy everything. What good was a sack of gold on a desert island? Gold could only be used to buy items and services if those items were available. In one sense, it acted as a middleman between buyer and seller, rather than forcing them to bargain.

The most interesting case is Phoenicia, a string of cities along the modern Lebanese coast, whose inhabitants had been prospering as middlemen since the Western core revived in the tenth century BCE, carrying goods between Egypt and Assyria.

inside a third party’s office they shouldn’t have access to. (Alice @ River)
@pagetreader
"You think one of the lot is finally doing away with Ho?"
Lamb was beside Catherine on the stairs, the two of them faltering in their movements hearing commotion rather than the creaking bones of the office building echoing from the floors above, from their destination of the top floor where their offices were situated.
Lamb never made it a habit to be punctual, not anymore; couldn't be helped this morning, not with sleep ever-stained with nightmares, worse so that the drink didn't help. Didn't matter though; this was Slough House, there was always time to fit work around one's daily nap schedule.
"He's not in. Car's not parked out front." Not the answer Lamb wanted. "I'll put the kettle on." Catherine passed him on the stairwell, her therapeutic shoes clicking matronly, leaving him to see to whatever was lurking among the floors above.
It would've been easier if it was a struggle; if there was a corpse, at least a good corpse would boost morale or whatever bullshit word HR was using for it nowadays, only for the topic to be forgotten by lunchtime.
Approaching his office door, the sounds of struggling became apparently familiar, and indifferently, Lamb barged into his lair.
A corpse would've been a better sight than the one he was met with, of Cartwright sprawled in a chair being straddled by a woman with her hands all but down his trousers, though Lamb would've paid good money record the look on the idiot's face when he noticed him looming in the doorframe.
"Please," Lamb stepped around them, "don't stop on my account." Collapsing into the chair behind his desk, the furniture squealed with disagreement at the sudden barrage of weight. "Standish, get the camera. Didn't you need another page for your office scrapbook? We can call this one: baby's first workplace handjob."
Catherine's voice echoed from across the hall, "I'm gonna pretend I you didn't say that," and then she made the unfortunate mistake of entering the office carrying two fresh mugs of tea, nearly dropping both in the process, "River!"
He waited until his teacup was placed on his messy desk, just enough time for Cartwright to bolt upright, his face burning with what Lamb could only hope was humiliation - where did he think he was? a bad le Carré movie? - as he tried to right his mussed clothes.
"Standish. Cartwright. Fuck off. Not you." He addressed Cartwright's jockey, all the while he spoke, he gracelessly lit a cigarette. "You stay." Waiting until the other two were gone. "Taverner send you then? I'd ask you to make yourself comfortable, but after seeing you work, I'd expect nothing less than a striptease."

One of the greatest joint actions by women workers, organising themselves, came from the women chainmakers of the West Midlands. These women made light chains in forges attached to their cottages, more than 2,000 of them in Cradley Heath alone.
Tumblr media
A middleman or middlewoman called a 'fogger' would deliver three-metre-long rods of iron to each chainmaker, who would cut the rods into links, and heat and hammer the hot iron into 5,000 links of a chain, working in the forge for up to 12 hours a day.

Live Review: Island Of Love at FUEL in Manchester 22 August 2023
Words: Andy Hughes It’s always a good start to the evening when you arrive at the venue to find all the available Sheffield stands nearby are filled with bikes that have been bashed in or had wheels half-inched. You put your bikes safety at risk parking in Withington (or, let’s face it, anywhere in Manchester and beyond). Such is the price to pay when the Southerners are in town, Tuesday being…

Just putting this out there. HHS Whistleblower Tara Lee Rodas Tells Congress Biden Administration Is “Middleman” in Multi-Billion Dollar Migrant Child Trafficking Operation
