CAN YOU WRITE A PRE-OUTBREAK ONESHOT WHERE JOEL TAKES CARE OF HER WHEN SHES SICK?? THAT WOULD BE SO CUTEE
Hi Bestie!
I know I said nothing new today but... I ended up with like 2 hours of writing time and decided to finally respond to an ask. I loved this prompt! Thank you SO MUCH - both for sending it in and (hopefully) patiently waiting for me to get to it. I love you!
Sick Leave
On a visit to Texas, you come down with appendicitis and Joel looks after his girl. Can be read independently, but is within the timeline of Lavender, found on Tumblr here.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader (Lavender reader)
Warnings: None :) Just fluff
Length: 2.1K
Late July, 2002
“And who’s he?” You asked, all but swallowed by the nest of pillows at the head of the bed.
“That’s Sonny,” Sarah said, curled up beside you, her head on your shoulder. “He’s a mobster, he’s like… the dangerous guy in town?”
“He’s kinda cute,” you nodded. Sarah’s nose crinkled. “What? If he grew a mustache he’d kind of look like your dad…”
“Oh, ugh!” She elbowed your ribs lightly, the way she normally would if you hadn’t just had surgery. You winced. “Oh, crap! I’m sorry…”
“It’s ok,” you adjusted a bit, the spark of pain already fading. “I asked for that, calling your dad cute and all.”
“Yeah, you kind of did,” she agreed, adjusting, too, so she was snuggled in around your arm. “Plus if you think he’s cute, you should see his body guard, Jason. He’s… ugh, he’s just so good. Oh, look, see? There he is.”
You giggled a little.
“He is cute,” you conceded. “Think I like Sonny more, though…”
“Ugh, you would,” she scoffed.
Sarah watched the melodrama intently and you just rested your head against hers, enjoying the chance to snuggle a bit with your favorite kid. It had been an unusual visit to Texas this time around. Instead of trying to cram as much fun stuff into the few weeks you were down as you possibly could, you’d come down with appendicitis just after you got into town. That had meant no trips to Six Flags, no midweek beach trips, not even any matinees to watch movies in the comfort of overpowered air conditioning.
But it had also meant Sarah giving you a thorough education on her latest summer obsession - a soap opera called General Hospital - and Joel, waiting on you hand and foot.
“Baby Girl?” You heard the front door close as Joel came in. “You forgetting that conversation we had about boundaries again?”
“No!” Sarah called, rolling her eyes.
Joel came into the bedroom, a drink carrier with three Diary Queen cups in hand. He shook his head.
“Sure looks like ya are,” he said, setting the ice cream on the dresser. “Thought we decided to give her some space? Make sure you’re not jostling that incision and giving her time to rest?”
“But Dad!” She groaned. “I never get to do this…”
“She’s right, you know,” you said as Joel passed you your Oreo Blizzard. “I’m usually too far away for good soap opera girl time and we’re usually a little too busy when I’m in town to keep up with all the goings on in… where is this again?”
“Port Charles,” Sarah said. Joel handed her a milkshake with a roll of his eyes.
“Port Charles,” you said, smiling up at Joel. “So this, really, is vital stuff. Plus, I’ve learned that Jason is, apparently, cute.”
“Cute, huh?” He asked, getting his own ice cream from the carrier and delicately climbing in on the other side of you.
“Oh yeah,” Sarah said. “I mean, have you seen him? Those arms!”
“I do know a thing or two about liking men with nice arms,” you said, giving Joel a teasing look. He shook his head, grinning slightly.
“Aren’t you a little young to be lookin’ at men’s arms?” Joel asked, leaning over you a little to look at his daughter.
“Dad, I’m 13,” she rolled her eyes.
“You’ve been 13 for a week,” he muttered.
“13 is 13, love,” you took a bite of your Blizzard. “Better get used to it.”
When Sarah got up to run to the bathroom during the commercial, Joel adjusted your pillows and tucked you against his side.
“Seriously,” he said, his voice low. “You need to be resting, I can take her out of the house…”
“Hon, I’ve been in bed for three days,” you smiled at him. “I am resting.”
“Just worried about you,” he kissed your temple. “Scared the hell outta me…”
He’d been like this since you’d gotten sick in the first place.
The first few days of your trip had been fine. There was the ceremonial visit to your favorite Mexican place in town - always the first stop you made besides dropping bags off at Joel’s house.
Sarah was old enough now that she could stay home on her own in the evenings, so you and Joel went with Tommy and a girl he was seeing - you hadn’t bothered to learn her name, you could already tell she wasn’t going to stick - to listen to music the night your flight got in. The next day you spent in the pool, watching Joel grill from the inflatable lounge chair he’d gotten just for you, margarita in hand.
“You’re lookin’ mighty comfortable there, Baby,” he teased.
You shrugged and sipped your drink.
“Might just have to move in,” you said. “Poolside cocktail service is a really nice perk…”
You woke up the next day feeling like shit.
It was like a switch had flipped. You went to bed feeling fine - slightly tipsy, but fine. More than fine after Joel got done with you. And then, right around six in the morning, you were running to the bathroom to puke.
“Shit, baby,” Joel was sitting on the bathtub next to you, one hand on your back, rubbing in broad circles between your shoulder blades, the other holding your hair in his fist. “Maybe I didn’t cook the chicken all the way through…”
“When have you ever fucked up on the grill?” You asked, resting your cheek on your arm as it draped against the toilet seat. Joel’s eyes went a little wide.
“You don’t think you’re…” he broke off. You raised your eyebrows and tried not to laugh.
“Don’t think morning sickness, shows up two days after you sleep with someone,” you said. “And it’s been a few months since I was here over spring break, I think it would have started sooner than now if I were knocked up.”
“Right,” he nodded, looking relieved. “Right…”
“I just picked up a stomach bug at the airport,” you sighed. “Make sure you and Sarah wash your hands a TON, they’re nasty little fuckers…”
You totally lost your appetite and a fever showed up that afternoon. Joel refused to keep his distance, sending Sarah to stay with Lizzy while he brought you a steady stream of Jell-o, chicken broth and popsicles.
“You’re going to get yourself sick,” you said the second night you felt like crap. You were lying on your side, Joel wrapped around you, his broad shoulders enveloping you, his hand splayed over your stomach.
“Don’t care,” he kissed the crown of your head. “Need you at least this close. You’re too fuckin’ far away all the time, not going to let a little stomach flu keep me from touchin’ you while I can.”
You weren’t noble enough to fight him on it. You had nasty stomach cramps all day on top of everything else. Being held by Joel was about the only thing that made you feel better.
It was about four in the morning when the feeling in your stomach went from cramps to sharp, stabbing pain. It jerked you out of a sound sleep, your hand flying behind you to Joel’s hip, your nails digging into him as you fought to breathe through the agony of it.
“Baby?” Joel’s voice was thick with sleep. “What’s goin’ on, you OK? Need somethin’?”
“I think I need to go to the hospital,” you managed through gritted teeth. “I don’t think this is a stomach bug, I think it’s appendicitis…”
Joel was wide awake then, rushing to put on a shirt and helping you sit up in bed. You winced as you moved, gritting your teeth, the pain sharp.
“Hold on, Baby,” Joel tucked an arm below your knees and the other around your ribs, tugging you to his side. “I’ve got you…”
He lifted you off the bed and carried you down the stairs as gently as he could, cradling your feverish body to his chest. He lowered you gingerly into the passenger seat of his truck and buckled you in before he drove to the hospital, going at least 10 over the speed limit the whole way.
Joel paced the whole time you sat in the ER, going up to talk to someone at the nurses’ station every five minutes until they got you back to be evaluated.
“Oh,” the doctor said as she looked at your stomach on an ultrasound. “We need to get you back now. Right now. This looks like it’s about to rupture.”
“Shit,” Joel paced, like a caged animal. The second the doctor left to go arrange emergency surgery, he took your hand, holding it tight.
“Baby,” you said, voice calm. “It’s an easy surgery, it hardly even counts as surgery, you don’t need to be worried…”
“They were ready to leave you in the damn waiting room all day,” he frowned. “Then what would have happened?”
“The surgeon would have had a harder job,” you said. “Joel, hon, it’s fine.”
He was like that until they took you back for surgery, glaring at doctors and nurses as they whisked you away.
When you woke up a few hours later, he was there, bouquet of daisies in his hands and a relieved smile on his face.
“Do me a favor and try real hard to not scare me like that again,” he said, brushing your hair back from your face.
“I’ll try my best,” you smiled a little.
But ever since, he’d stuck close by.
“You know,” you said, looking up at him, poking at your Blizzard with the long, red spoon. “I was thinking…”
“Always dangerous when it comes to you,” he said. You glared at him.
“Anyway,” you said. “I was thinking… I should probably start doing a bit more. It’s been a few days, I’m feeling pretty good…”
“Baby,” he sighed.
“Come on,” you pouted a little. “I’m getting restless.”
He sighed again.
“What were you thinkin’?”
You smiled.
“Nothing crazy,” you said. “Just… could we do BBQ for dinner? Maybe try to go see a movie tomorrow? We haven’t made it to Men in Black II yet and Sarah really liked the first one…”
“How about we start with the BBQ and see how you’re doin’ in the morning,” he kissed your temple. “Not gonna let you push it…”
Joel made sure you had plenty of water and a book before he and Sarah went to pick up dinner, giving you a lingering kiss on your forehead as he left.
They came home with enough BBQ to feed a small army and made you a plate with brisket and Mac and cheese, your favorites. But they also picked up Men in Black from Blockbuster, along with an ample supply of Mike and Ikes, popcorn and Sno-Caps. While you were getting cleaned up in the bathroom, Joel and Sarah set up the bed with three tray tables and a nest of pillows big enough for all of you to recline and watch the movie. He even lit a candle - lavender scented - on the nightstand.
“Joel!” You gaped at him. “What’s all this?”
“Figured we can do it up right,” he said, tucking you into bed and setting the tray table over your legs.
The three of you had dinner and cuddled close in bed, laughing at Will Smith getting thrown around by aliens. Sarah fell asleep, her head against your shoulder. Joel put on When Harry Met Sally once the first movie ended.
“I’m sorry this trip has been such a bust,” you said softly as he ran one hand gently up and down your arm.
He frowned.
“What are you talkin’ about?” He asked. “Hasn’t been a bust. You know how grateful I am this happened when you were here and not all the way in New York? How glad I am that I got to be the one to take care of you? I’d have been fuckin’ terrified, you all the way up there with just your grandmother to look after you, somethin’ like this happens. Besides, I’ve gotten to spend a week laying around in bed with my girls, not arguin’ with that.”
You smiled a little.
“Still,” you said. “Think we should try for the movie tomorrow. Not sure Sarah’s soaps are quite my speed.”
“If you’re up for it,” he kissed your temple. “But if you need another day or two of rest, don’t fight it. Just let me look after my girl, OK?”
You closed your eyes, content.
“OK.”
A/N: I hope you all enjoyed this little drabble of Joel being all soft and caring! It was really fun to write him being all fluffy and worried.

Part 2 of blown cover story.
I wasn't sure how many people my sister had told. She said almost everyone, but that could be exaggeration. She told a few I'm sure, and those will tell a few, but at least my secret won't be known far and wide. However, more and more people when they encounter me ask about and comment or talk about my Mom. This was happening more and more. I desperately tried changing subject, but the persons talking to me immediately changed it back to my Mom. Me changing subject I guess made me appear to be guilty I guess. in hindsight.
Around this same time and after, rumors and gossip were multiplying and spreading like wildfire. Every day it seemed 4 or 5 new gossip stories and 5-10 or more new rumors about Mom and I dating/being involved as lovers popped up and started spreading. This went on daily for a few months. During this time, my aunt (who lives on the other side of my home state called me on the phone...the phone at Mom's house of course). My aunt (my Mom's sister) kept saying "I hear you have a new girlfriend. Tell me all about her" I kept saying "No I do not have a girlfriend". "No I truly do not." (Oh did I sound nervous/scared as I talked.). Mom and my Sister are within earshot. After several denials from me, my aunt said "I know you have aa new girlfriend you are super serious about.". "NO NO NO" said I. "My aunt said "Nonsense dear. I know for a fact you have a girlfriend. I am talking about your mother, er... your girlfriend... er your mother. Your mother/girlfriend, she is who I am talking about." I had to explain to my aunt all about it. Next day my aunt from Dad's side of family called, same thing. I had to explain.
Two nights later, my Mother and I are in the midst of a very passionate love making session at around 2:30 AM, in my Mother's bed (it is a midweek night). Suddenly the phone beside Mom'ss bed rings. We ignore it of course. A minute of two later it rings again, in the midst of a thrust stroke I absently mindedly pick up the phone and say breathlessly "Hello. This is Ted Jr. We were in bed". Uh-oh. It is my aunts. Major Uh-oh. They both start talking, and say "Imagine talking to you at 2:30 in the morning, in your Parent's house, and apparently in your Mother's bed to boot, haha. May we speak to her". Major Uh-oh. I say "Yes, here Mom" and quickly hand the phone to Mom, who speaks into it immediately... Major major Uh-oh!! Yes we gave ourselves away. This must have been popular, because a majority of over nights friends, acquaintances, strangers neighbors would call during night. If Mom answered they would want to talk to me, saying they know I am here. If I answered, common response was "Aha, I knew it. I KNEEEEW IT! May I speak to your mother". Oh yeah, we were pretty busted.
During this time, more and more rumors were formed about Mom and I. More and more gossip flew. Our small town and small and larger towns//cities in ssurrounding area seemed to have lots of people who knew. These rumors/gossip also caused others who were not sure it was true, to try to see us or catch us . Oh man oh man oh man. To me it seemed almost everyone knew. Apparently my sister told way more people than I first assumed. And those many people told many other people. If those people had not heard, now they had heard. If people already knew, hearing all the additional gossip and rumors simply confirmed that the gossip and rumors were ALL TRUE!! Part 3 (tonight later) will be about our cover completely being blown, more people finding out, Mom and I getting caught "in the act" a few times, and how that kead to the blog I have today.

When Is The Best Time To Book A Flight - Save Money Traveling
https://TravelingFevah.com - Welcome, fellow travelers! Today, we're uncovering the secret to saving big on your next flight. If you've ever wondered when is the best time to book your flight, you're in the right place. Stick around as we dive deep into this travel mystery and unlock insider tips that will change the way you plan your trips forever.
1. The Art of Timing Picture this: You're dreaming of your next adventure, but you're unsure when to hit that "book now" button. Well, fear not! Timing is everything when it comes to snagging the best deals on flights. Let's break it down.
2. The Early Bird Gets the Worm You may have heard the saying, "the early bird gets the worm," and when it comes to booking flights, there's truth to that. Booking your flight in advance, ideally 3-4 months before your desired departure date, can often result in lower fares. Airlines tend to offer discounted prices for early bookings, so plan ahead and reap the rewards.
3. Last-Minute Deals But wait, there's more! Contrary to popular belief, scoring last-minute deals is still possible, especially for spontaneous travelers. Keep an eye out for flash sales, promotions, and even error fares, which can appear unexpectedly and offer significant savings. If you're flexible with your travel dates and destinations, you might just snag a steal at the eleventh hour.
4. The Midweek Magic Now, let's talk about the power of midweek bookings. Did you know that flights tend to be cheaper when booked on certain days of the week? Avoid booking on weekends when prices are typically higher due to increased demand. Instead, aim for Tuesdays or Wednesdays, known as the sweet spot for securing budget-friendly fares.
5. Seasonal Savings Here's where it gets interesting. Understanding the ebb and flow of travel seasons can be your ticket to big savings. Peak seasons, such as summer and major holidays, often come with inflated prices and crowded airports. Consider traveling during shoulder seasons or off-peak periods when demand is lower, and prices are more wallet-friendly.
6. Fare Comparison Tools Before you hit that "confirm purchase" button, arm yourself with knowledge. Utilize fare comparison tools and websites to scout out the best deals across multiple airlines and booking platforms. Keep an eye on price trends, set up fare alerts, and be ready to pounce when you spot a bargain that's too good to pass up. Conclusion And there you have it, folks! The secret to scoring the best flight deals is all about timing, flexibility, and a dash of savvy strategy. Whether you're a meticulous planner or a spontaneous jet-setter, armed with these insights, you'll be jetting off to your next destination in style and savings. So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your next adventure and let the journey begin! Model airplanes keep protests flying high in Bundesliga. Bayern slumps to 3rd straight loss
Tumblr media
Bayern Munich slumped to its third consecutive defeat on Sunday as Bochum came from behind to defeat the 11-time defending champions 3-2 in the Bundesliga.
It left Thomas Tuchel's team eight points behind league leader Bayer Leverkusen with 12 rounds remaining and will increase doubts over the Bayern coach's future after a midweek loss to Lazio in the Champions League and last weekend's 3-0 defeat at Leverkusen.
“It feels like a horror film that just doesn't end,” Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka said. “Everything is going against us at the moment.”
Not even fans' protests against an outside Bundesliga investor – which continued Sunday with model airplanes flown onto the field during Eintracht Frankfurt's 3-3 draw with Freiburg and tennis balls interrupting Bayern's game – will give Tuchel respite from the scrutiny that is sure to follow.
“Today was a bit like Murphy's Law. Anything that could go against us, anything that could go wrong, went wrong,” said Tuchel, who must now prepare for Leipzig's visit next weekend.

calls were supposed to be straight from 10-2; 11am needed to cancel but I gave them 2pm so now i'm not done til 3; havent eaten yet bc i used the 11am availability to put together the cat tree lol... so now am exhausted, not eating today til at least 3pm, still have an hour or two of paperwork i should get done today.
i want to figure out things i can insert into my weeks to break up all this slog day after day but im not sure what they could be. most weeks its fine and if i could free up wednesdays thatd be even better to have a midweek break. but generally i need something to look forward to and to break up all this frustration.

Navigating Ticket Bookings and Flights: A Guide for Travel Enthusiasts
Traveling has always been an exhilarating way to explore new horizons, experience different cultures, and create lasting memories. In the modern age, air travel has made it possible to cover vast distances in remarkably short timeframes. Navigating the process of tickets booking flights, however, can sometimes be a daunting task, especially for avid travelers seeking the best deals and experiences. This guide aims to provide travel enthusiasts with valuable insights into the art of booking flights, ensuring smooth and exciting journeys ahead.
1. Research, Research, Research:
Before embarking on the journey of booking a flight, arm yourself with information. Use online travel platforms like Blinctrip, where you can compare flight options, prices, and routes. Be flexible with your travel dates, as midweek flights are often cheaper than those booked on weekends. Take into account the weather and events at your destination, as they can affect both prices and the overall travel experience.
2. Early Bird Catches the Worm:
Booking your flight tickets well in advance can often save you a significant amount of money. Airlines typically offer their best deals to early bookers, and the availability of desired seats is higher when you book ahead of time. This is especially important if you're traveling during peak seasons or holidays when flights tend to fill up quickly.
3. Leverage Fare Comparison Tools:
Utilize fare comparison tools available on platforms like Blinctrip to find the best possible prices for your chosen route. These tools aggregate flight options from various airlines, making it easy to identify the most cost-effective and convenient choices. Remember that while direct flights might be more convenient, connecting flights can sometimes offer substantial savings.
4. Loyalty Programs and Miles:
If you find yourself traveling frequently, consider enrolling in airline loyalty programs. Accumulating frequent flyer miles can lead to significant discounts and even free flights over time. Many credit cards also offer rewards and points that can be redeemed for flight tickets, further enhancing your travel savings.
5. Be Wary of Hidden Costs:
While a flight deal might seem too good to be true, always read the fine print. Some airlines may charge additional fees for baggage, seat selection, in-flight amenities, or even payment processing. Compare the total cost, including these potential add-ons, to ensure you're truly getting a great deal.
6. Set Fare Alerts:
If your travel plans are flexible, setting fare alerts can be a strategic way to snag the best prices. Many travel websites and apps offer this feature, notifying you when prices drop for your chosen route. Be ready to act quickly when you receive such alerts, as prices can change rapidly.
7. Consider Alternative Airports:
When booking flights, don't limit yourself to the main airport at your destination. Nearby airports might offer cheaper options, and the money you save could offset any extra travel time or transportation costs.
8. Check Visa and Passport Requirements:
Before confirming your flight, make sure you're aware of the visa and passport requirements for your destination. Some countries have specific entry regulations that could affect your travel plans. Ensuring you have the necessary documentation will save you from potential last-minute disruptions.
9. Stay Updated on Travel Restrictions:
In today's dynamic world, travel restrictions and regulations can change rapidly, especially in response to health concerns. Stay updated on the latest travel advisories, vaccination requirements, and COVID-19 protocols for your destination to avoid any surprises upon arrival.
10. Patience and Perseverance:
Booking flights can sometimes be frustrating, but patience and perseverance pay off. Prices can fluctuate, and deals can appear when you least expect them. Take your time, do your research, and trust that your efforts will result in a rewarding and enjoyable travel experience. In conclusion, navigating the world of tickets booking flights requires a combination of research, planning, and a dash of flexibility. By utilizing online tools like Blinctrip, staying informed about loyalty programs, and considering alternative options, travel enthusiasts can unlock the best deals and make their journeys both affordable and unforgettable. Remember, the journey itself begins with securing that perfect flight, so embark on your adventure armed with knowledge and excitement.

May 15-17, 2022 || Out and About
Soooooooooo. We had three consecutive looooong days.
Okay so on Monday, we originally planned to travel to Camp Crame to process my requirements, but because we had a blast at the banquet the night before, we decided to stay home and rest......not. I did the laundry and my love did lots of cleaning and cooking! Love it! In the afternoon, we just headed to the market and supermarket for some groceries.
On Tuesday, we left home at 6:30 AM and was at Camp Crame around 8:30 AM. We parked at the roof deck (that's the 5th floor) and I started walking at 9:00 AM. Praying through every step of processing my requirements and clearances...praising God under the rain, and praising God under the heat of the sun... grateful for my loving husband and very patient children waiting for me for 3 hours in the car.... thankful for super kind and accommodating personnel of each office I went to....praising the Lord with aching feet, hunger and thirst. The Lord sustains! 🙏 I made sure to be back in the car before 12 NN...and so my love decided to treat us at an Indian restaurant and ice cream! What a delight. Thank you, my love! ♥️
On Wednesday, my love prepared avocado-egg toast for breakfast and he had a zoom meeting while I stayed with the kids and cooked lunch. We ate early and left around 12:30 PM. We were at Camp Crame around 2:00 PM. Grateful yet again for all the kind personnel...grateful I got to finish my requirements...just waiting to be called for release of sone documents on the coming days. I was done at 3:00 PM and headed to San Pedro to visit my kuya and his family. ♥️ We brought 2 dozens of donuts to be shared! Praise the Lord for ate Rona and her reflections on previous Vesper services they attendes via Zoom. We left Clark and the kids, but brought Aianna with us to Puregold. We rode a tricycle--a first for Aianna.. and then headed back to their house with Kuya already there from work. Ate Rona made baked mac! So yummy! She also baked for ma and pa and the Mendoza's. 🥰 We had midweek zoom meeting at their home and discussed Galatians chapter 1. Blessed to hear NWC members read and reflect and for all the learnings.. Blessed with the prayers... blessed that Pastor Marfeal prayed for kuya and his family too. ♥️
After San Pedro, we traveled to Sta. Rosa Hills also to visit my sister and her family and deliver donuts and baked mac! Happy that Kiaree and Aianna got to spend time with their cousins today! 🥰
I praise the Lord for these 3 long days and for my husband and his love for me and the kids, and my family. I am truly blessed! ♥️♥️♥️

Spent the night in the cat's room and she even layed beside me for a while. It's kind of funny how she will plop down in front of the door to keep me from leaving. I also tried playing with her with one of those flop around toys and she actually played along! I remember I tried playing with one of those feathers on a string when she was outside, but she didn't get it and it kinda freaked her out. So that's some real progress. Also enjoying the stark change of pace of those Innistrad Remastered Drafts--so slowed down, a lot of just staring at each other while making incremental progress. Really neat, but really stressful gameplay. A different era than today for sure. One vexing game, I had a gigantic 2/3 that grows per sacrifice--it got up to maybe 10/11 or so--but it was totally held off by a wall of Vampires with first strike thanks to Hannes's signpost uncommon. I just needed my flying Griff enchantment or my tap-all Angel and that would have been game, but I also certainly didn't use my cards as efficiently or effectively as possible, so for all I know, I could have had my opponent in a much more precarious position such that he'd have to enter The Abyss, making the defense far less impregnable, though he kept rattling off Madness card after Madness card thanks to two free outlets, and then again, I could have been a little more risky in my attacks, banking on him not having Madness stuff, but he always seemed to have something. Anyway, a frustrating loss, to be sure, but the new sub-set enters tomorrow, so we'll try the new iteration of the experience soon, likely after Midweek Magic. Ha, the cat's watching me type and wants to snuggle. Ok, Mariupol.

Midweek Lenten Homily III: The Creed - The Second Article - On Redemption (3/15/23)
Primary Text | Luke 23:39-46
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dear People of God,
Last week we learned the First Article of the Creed – On Creation. This week we learn the Second Article of the Creed – On Redemption. Here we see the work of the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. What he has done to bring us back from the dead. What he has done to free us from sin. What he has done to unbind us from the power of the devil. The Small Catechism grounds us with these words: “He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned human being. He has purchased and freed me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.” Notice that what he has done for us was not accomplished with gold or silver, but it says, “with his holy, precious blood.” Things like gold and silver though deemed of great value were not used for this. I admit I like shiny things as much as the next guy. Our Lord also did not buy us with a fancy house nor did he think to use a Tesla to redeem us. Life is not found in such things—though I’m sure if we offered everyone a private jet we would have more people in church. God does not allure us with shiny or attractive or luxurious things. God has used something of little value in the world to redeem us—his own blood. Blood we are told in the scriptures is the life of our flesh, our bodies. It sustains us. It is through the blood of Jesus that we are saved. Blood is very much what sustains our life, and the scriptures will inform us the life of our flesh, our bodies, is in the blood (Lev. 17:11). So when we talk about Jesus’ shedding of blood on the cross we are talking about him giving up his life so that we may have life—that we may be raised from the dead. It is through the blood of Jesus that we are saved.
The one criminal on the cross rebuked the other criminal who was reviling Jesus by saying, “This man has done nothing wrong” (Luke 23:41). Indeed, Jesus was innocent. He was on that cross not because he had committed some great wrong, but because people hated him. Jesus went against the grain. Particularly, he would do the most offensive thing—forgive people their sin apart from any standard or measure of the law. That is to say, he would forgive people who don’t deserve it. He did this with the criminal next to him on the cross. Clearly this criminal had done grievously horrible things, he admits it himself. Perhaps he was a great thief, or a murderer. We do not know what his crimes were. Still, Jesus said to him, “Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). Jesus did not hold the criminal’s sins against him. He simply showed mercy. (pause)
On  the cross the innocent Jesus harbored no animosity to those who put him up there. He willingly endured the abuse of human hands. Hands are themselves a blessing from God. They can be used for much good. Especially in love and service of the neighbor—the poor, the naked, and the hungry. Love is what God has given us hands for, never forget it. But with the cross our hands showed their true colors. That is, our true colors. We desire to be as gods—deciding what is good and evil for ourselves. Turns out we cannot tolerate the only One born of a woman who is truly innocent. This Son of God who shows mercy to people who don’t deserve it offends us in the core. And so, he was crucified for our transgressions, and on him was laid the iniquity of us all.
We are told in the Large Catechism, “There was no counsel, no help, no comfort for us until this only and eternal Son of God, in his unfathomable goodness, had mercy on us because of our misery and distress and came from heaven to help us” (LC 2:29). In this way the cross becomes the ultimate sign of God’s mercy. That by giving up his own life, his own blood, God in Christ has withheld nothing of his own goodness for us. He endured death by our hands to show us that his love is still stronger than that. God has chosen to bring us out of death and into life. To replace our heart of stone with a soft, fleshy heart. He makes Paradise not someplace we go to, but delivers it to you in the proclaimed word: I forgive you all your sin, unconditionally and forever—that is, in Christ you have God himself in your ear and in your heart. By the word the sting of death, devil, and sin is taken out of you. And, now, in Christ, you are held within the glowing furnace of God’s love—which warms your heart in the coldness of the present life, and keeps you in his warm and gentle heart forever.

💢FOUNDATION SERIES REVAMP💢 ⠀ Working on new exciting content from the basics to advanced material. This has been in the works for a while with much more game changing new content that will be launched over the coming months! I’m head down focused right now and I’ll keep you all updated as much as I can and share some insights behind the scenes!👀 ⠀ Today I am filming some new sections for the foundation series and it’s such an enjoyable process. With each bit of content we produce so much time and care goes into it. We all learn in differently which is why it’s so important to myself and the falcon team that we cater for that. This has become me an obsession for me as I know I can make a 1% tweak in explaining something from a technical stand point or psychological could be the difference a trader has a big breakthrough🔮 ⠀ 1 position missed on EUR/GBP which comes with the territory of having other projects but also key to understand that one single trade will not define us. Still managed to get Long again on GBP/CHF which is running about 3.5% and EU short with 2% locked in✅ ⠀ Momentum is picking now and big shout out to the community putting in the work and taking advantage of the opportunity. Many high quality set ups will present themselves to us we just need to make sure we are prepared🔑 ⠀ How’s everyone’s week been so far in the trading space? Excited to share some key insights in tonight’s midweek market review!🦅 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp2DewPILtL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My boyfriend and I are going to spend the day at a major entertainment and shopping complex downtown, especially to see the large fountain that is choreographed to music of multiple genres. I occasionally meet my boyfriend there after work, but since that's only for a few hours at a time we miss some of the shows; so we decided to spend the day there today. We will have dinner at one of the restaurants surrounding the fountain, outdoors, where we can see the shows during dinner, and during the day in between shows we will perhaps do a little shopping, or visit some of the other attractions in the center. Since neither one of us has to be at work early in the morning, we'll stay until 11:00 when the fountain closes.
I am wearing one of my favorite dresses. I was actually planning on wearing it to work Thursday for the last day of summer/first day of fall, with colorful accessories, for leaves that are currently green, but will soon become colorful. Temperatures, though, are expected to plummet midweek, too cold for a sleeveless dress, and even bare legs, so I am wearing it today one last time for the season. I have a short-sleeved green dress that I will use to create an alternate look, so stay tuned LOL.
For dinner and the rest of the evening, I will be wearing heeled sandals, one of my super high heels (5 1/2 inches); too high to be appropriate for work, but I love wearing higher heels on some dates. During the day, though, I have to admit that I am a bit undecided as to wear sneakers or flat sandals. I prefer sandals in the summer, especially with this dress, but sneakers are more conducive to heavy walking, and the daytime will involve a fair amount of walking. On the other hand, our walking will be more leisurely than a hike, and in a fairly small area, rather than spread out over blocks all over town, and we will be sitting some of the time, too, watching some of the fountain shows.
I think I'll take my chance with the sandals, as they are comfortable, and meant to be walked in, obviously LOL, and I'm not sure how may more chances I'll have this year to wear sandals with a dress (or skirt).
Update: The sandals got me through the day 😀, so I was glad about that. I actually switched back to them on the way back home, as the walk back to the bus stop was a little long for 5 1/2" heels. Dinner was at the seafood restaurant.
My outfit details:

Brown faux pearl necklace: Amazon

Milan 2 Fiorentina 1
Tumblr media
Needed all 3pts...
...and somehow got all 3pts...
Back to regular programming here with some ratings and then a little commentary at the bottom.
TATARUSANU 6 One of his more shaky games which means most of us were sh*tting our pants when Fiorentina got near the 18yd box. BUT this will hopefully be the last time we see him aside from a Coppa clash
KALULU 7.5 Solid game and you could tell Pioli told him to get forward. Ended up moving back to CB once Thiaw was subbed out for Dest. Oh, and Milan locked him down until 2027. Couldn't be more deserved
THIAW 6.5 Only a 6.5 but not because he didn't play well (although 6.5 isn't a bad score), it's more because the rest of the team formation/playing style impacted my ability to gauge him. But looked promising again
TOMORI 6.5 We got 2022-23 season Tomori and not 2021-22 season...again. I hope he uses the break to rediscover his level of play. He's too good to be this inconsistent
HERNÁNDEZ 6.5 Needed to do more going forward but game plan and execution likely impacted and limited his effectiveness. Still, solid game
BENNACER 7 Solid again. Probably his best first half of the season if you ask me. Was as active and dominate as he's ever been but greatly reduced his bookings and absolutely took a physical beating
TONALI 7 Another solid outing. Him and Bennacer have been so good so far. I know some people have shared they miss Kessie and some of the things he did, but I don't. It doesn't mean Milan has filled those traits, it just means I think they've been able to compensate to where it's not the detriment some thought it would be
DIÁZ 6.5 Just an ok day for Brahim, which I blame on him being out on the RW. Still looked sure of himself while on the ball but the attack was so piss-poor on the day that none of the forward players played great IMO
KRUNIĆ 6 Provided next to nothing in all aspects of the game. Was invisible for me
LEÃO 7.5 Great opening goal but was just ok after that. Definitely should've had one more. I know he's not a striker but he needs to work on those quick reacting type of striker goals. Too often those go flying into the stands and today was no different (most likely a body posture type of thing. He should talk to Giroud)
GIROUD 7 Been much better when the ball comes to him and what do you know, a flick actually worked! He also worked hard in all areas and considering Milan's attacking plan was to boot long balls to him all game I think he did well to win as many as he could
subs
DEST 7 Nice re-emergence for Dest who we hadn't seen for the last couple of weeks. In fact, he's looked much better after that terrible Chelsea outing. Seems to be finding his confidence. Let's see how he looks after the WC
ORIGI 6 Not the best showing for him, which is on par for the first half of his first season with Milan. Very...meh. Does seem to have the tools though so just a matter of putting it all together
VRANCKS 6.5 I think he got robbed of a goal because I think that ball was on target. Otherwise, the kid looks to have a solid all-around game. Wouldn't mind seeing him steal some minutes from ol'King Krunic...
REBIĆ NA Why he only came in at the 86th minute is beyond me. Terrible decision by Pioli
coaching
PIOLI 3 Ugh. That was bad. I don't know what he was thinking. It's like he got what the issue was in the previous, well...*thinking*...the previous few games and fixed it in step 1 of midweek prep but then went on to step 2, when there wasn't really another lesson to be learned and instead regressed. His coaching decisions are part of my commentary for this post so let's dive into it below
THOUGHTS
I think the only person I'm more irritated at than Krunić is Pioli and that's because he keeps playing him. Why god, why?...
So, in the matchday post before the lineups were announced, I pontificated about starting Thiaw at CB and moving Kalulu to RB as this might give Pioli the best backline possible to fit his philosophy. Before we continue, yes I was eager to use the word, pontificated, in a sentence...
Anyway, my thinking was that since Pioli doesn't EVER want to change formations and tactics (except apparently when only fielding 4 regular starters), just plug and play players, then it's important to plug and play THE RIGHT players. Since Calabria got hurt, Pioli has been trying to figure out who to field in the back 4 while playing the same tactics. Kjaer and Gabbia have played well when called upon AND they have been a liability to the high pressure/high defensive line Pioli likes to run. Since Pioli doesn't want to abandon the high defensive line other concessions have to be made, in most cases by having Kalulu, while at RB, being asked to stay back to prevent the opponent from getting in behind. So, there is a resulting chain-reaction that occurs:
Kjaer/Gabbia in a CB -> Kalulu at RB but asked to stay back -> No RB offering overlapping runs and adding width -> RW is isolated so begins to drift inward to make himself available -> this crowds the middle of the pitch and allows the defense to stay compact -> compact defense means there's no room/lanes to make runs/pass/shoot -> no room means Tonali/Bennacer/CAM are crowded out by too many defenders -> CBs can't find an outlet so pass back to GK -> GK forced to kick 50/50 balls to the forwards hoping he can win the aerial duel or get a lucky bounce
Now imagine putting in Thiaw to help prevent that chain of events only to start Krunić at CAM and start a whole new sequence of events one step removed from the CBs but nonetheless as catastrophic to the attack as the other option. It's madness.
I know I spend a lot of time talking about this, or I have particularly this season, but this isn't all that complicated and I can't figure out why Pioli isn't getting this. There are very few world-beaters out there who can thrive regardless of formation or tactics or philosophy and Milan doesn't have any. So please Pioli, for the love of god, PLEASE stop playing guys grossly out of position. Krunić shouldn't be in the CAM role unless you're up late, the defense sits back deeper, and the CAM essentially turns into one of the middle defenders in a 4-4-2/4-5-1 type of defensive formation. He cannot be in the position of a high pressing/high defensive line attack who is unable to facilitate the offense by receiving and turning with the ball OR making himself available in and around the 18yd box.
I was going to post some screenshots of average position and some heatmaps but it was just pissing me off even more (😂) but, if you're interested hop on the web and check out WhoScored or any site including Serie A that has post-match summaries and data/stats. It's right there and not difficult to see. These mistakes are jeopardizing the integrity of the formation and is making everything more difficult. So frustrating...
Finally
Not quite through the first half of the league season and Milan sitting in 2nd place and into the knockouts in Champions League is a solid place to be even though 8pts back of leaders Napoli is far from ideal. But, World Cup break is here and lots can change between now and when the league kicks off again in early January 2023. Form can change, injured players can return (while hopefully minimizing injuries between now and then for all players, not just those participating in the WC), not to mention the opening of the winter mercato.
We'll be posting stuff between now and the new year and we are also hoping to get a new site off the ground and ready by that time as well, so stay tuned on that front.
Anyway, what do you guys think, about this Fiorentina match, the first half of the season/before the WC break performance, or really anything that comes to mind? Let us know below.
Forza Milan

Today's Daily Encounter 29th September 2022
Beloved Hymns: He Leadeth Me
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.1
Dr. Joseph H. Gilmore gave the following account of writing his famous hymn on God's leading:
As a young man recently graduated…, I was supplying, for a couple of Sundays, the pulpit of the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia. At the midweek service, on the 26th of March, 1862, I set out to give the people an exposition of the 23rd Psalm, which I have given before on three or four occasions, but this time I did not get further than the words “He Leadeth Me”. Those words took hold of me as they had never done before, and I saw in them a significance… of which I had never dreamed.
It was the darkest hour of the Civil War; my subconscious mind may have led me to realize that God's leadership is the one significant fact in human experience, that it makes no difference how we are led, or whither we are led, so long as we are sure God is leading us.
At the close of the meeting, while in the parlor of my host, Deacon Watson, a few of us kept on talking about the thought I had emphasized; and then and there, I penciled the hymn, talking and writing at the same time, then handed it to my wife and thought no more about it. She sent it to The Watchman and Reflector, a paper published in Boston, where it was first printed. I did not know until 1865 that my hymn had been set to music by William B. Bradbury. I had gone to Rochester to preach. Going into their Chapel… I picked up a hymnal to see what they were singing and opened it at my own hymn, “He Leadeth Me”.
He leadeth me, O blessed thought! O words with Heavenly comfort fraught!
What -e’er I do, where -e’er I be, still ‘tis God's hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me;
his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.2
Suggested Prayer: Dear Lord, there are times when I want to follow my own path and I step out of your will. But you are so merciful to lead me back to where you want me. What a blessed thought! In Jesus’ name, Amen. 1. Psalm 23:3 (KJV). 2. “He Leadeth Me”, hymn by Joseph H. Gilmore (1862).

This is one of those end of year WIP not RIP things. Amazed at how much is still in that unfinished file...oh well.
This bit is from another modern Poldark AU. Untitled. Unfinished (and in my head, Ross Poldark's birthday is today, December 29th)
----
Sometimes Ross Poldark felt his whole life ran in circles. In fact he’d had that same thought more than once as he moved through the same streets and ate at the same cafes or drank in the same pubs, and had the same conversations year after year. Maybe he drove a different car now or wore different clothes or even had different conversation partners, but it was largely still all the same. He had lived in Cornwall so long that it was part of him--the oxygen he breathed, the blood that ran through his veins.
Today he was tired but he wasn’t sure why. He’d slept well and he certainly wasn’t exhausted from physical activity--he didn't really do that too much any more unless it was an occasional home project he took on willingly. Even then he mostly hired those out these days.
Maybe he was just bored.
He was alone but that was a familiar feeling too, one he’d long since accepted as part of his identity, just like being a Cornish man. And except for a brief period in his twenties, he’d been alone his whole life.
The difference now was that he was comfortable with it. Demons and ghosts had largely faded, regrets had softened around the edges and none of the acidic self-loathing remained. Perhaps he had been more interesting when he was dark and unhappy--was he himself the cause of his boredom?
The cafe was crowded for 2 o’clock but he supposed more people were out midweek doing last minute holiday shopping. He was lucky to find an empty table in the rear corner. Hot soup and black coffee was what he needed.
He’d be turning 38 next week. It didn’t feel any different to him than the week before. He had no plans but supposed he’d better make some lest others start fussing.
Birthdays were the one day of the year he apparently wasn’t allowed to be alone. That would seem sad and tragic by society’s standards anyway. Not to him though--he had no more attachment to the December 29th than any other day. But all the same, he’d play along and invite Dwight and Caroline out for a drink. Just one drink then they’d call it an early evening and he could go home and do what he really wanted: be alone.
He’d be alone for Christmas too but he usually managed to get away with that. On that day everyone else was too busy with their own plans to really notice him. The years of obligatory family visits were long behind him, really since Aunt Agatha died. Once or twice he’d visited Verity and her little family but afterwards decided it really wasn’t the right time of year to camp on their sofa, to intrude on their happiness. Christmas meant something very different to little Andrew, just a boy, than to his old uncle Ross. And Ross felt he dampened the mood and trampled on something pure and lovely just by being there.
He’d done that before--ruined something innocent and lovely--and vowed not to ever again.
Last year he’d been abroad over Christmas and found that a happy coincidence. He thought he’d like to do that again but it was probably too late to book something. He could always just jump in his car and drive. Maybe Scotland--tour some old distillery and stay over for his birthday--then no one would question him being alone. He’d need to find a place to stay, one with a kitchen for self-catering would be ideal. He’d also need someone to mind his cat.
Thinking about this new plan, Ross suddenly felt less bored but only just so. He took a slurp from his cod chowder that was still too hot and regretted he hadn’t ordered a sandwich to go with it.
His spoon was midway between lips and bowl when he paused. Or was he frozen?
He knew she was there before he looked up. She hadn’t yet said anything or even touched him. It wasn’t scent--she wore a different perfume now from when he’d known her, but he wouldn't learn that until much later that night. It was more of a recognition of her energy, the way the very molecules of air shifted around her as she moved. Of course he’d never known anyone as well as he’d known her.
“Ross?” she said and in that single syllable managed to inflect so much meaning--and feeling. Gentleness, friendliness, warmth, light. And ease.
He couldn't help but smile. The thought had not occurred to him that he should try to be aloof or cool or some other such way one acts when accidentally meeting an ex. Especially an ex to whom one hadn’t really spoken for eight years.
“I thought it was you. Merry Christmas--well almost anyway,” she laughed that little laugh of hers that he knew would be accompanied by a somewhat self-deprecating eye roll. The laugh she’d use when she thought she’d said something silly or stupid. But she never had ever said anything truly stupid.
Next she shrugged, as he’d known she would.
Yes, even though they were strangers now, she was a stranger whose every inch of skin he still knew. Every inch.
And his skin? Could she still imagine it all? Did she ever?
His eyes darted around the room and saw there were no empty tables but her hands were full with a steaming mug and a plate of some sort of dessert.
“Please, why don’t you join me?” he asked, impressed with his quick thinking and even more so with his genuinely inviting tone. He wasn’t doing half bad for someone who just moments before was scheming how to remain a recluse for the next week.
“Oh thanks. I’d love to. I never do like sharing with strangers--I end up looking at my mobile too much just to avoid any awkward eye contact.”
“So I’m not a stranger?” he dared to tease.
“No, Ross,” she said with just a vapour of softness.
