Notes from the Trio-Kage Meeting - 02/18/2024

Dusts off her desk and places the newly bought sake bottles on the somewhat clean (hah-SNIZUNE WE NEED GENNIN TO CLEAN UP THIS HELLHOLE!) surface.

"Hmmm...what even....?"

Scowls at the chicken scratch that just happens to be sparklepuff's writing.

"Stupid.....glitter blinded.....gremlin...."

Its takes a n added minute or two for the script to make sense.

"Ah - - so the plan is resurrection. No we aren't building a zombie army but the plot-holes need to be addressed because seemingly too many innocent civilians were lost to them."

It sounded like a joke....but only if it were one. Sigh.

"Back to world-building because we were dumb enough to be Hokage's so the headache is of course ours. I mean...I still think the job should have been given to Orochimaru. Being Hokage would have meant he never would have had time for evilness and all three of us would have been spared."

Cue deadpan. Cue cursing stupid old men who think they know better but then go ahead and die at the hands of their favorite students (that is karma for you sensei!!) and leave all the paperwork for those who never wanted it.

But someone needs to make sense of it, still. ☼ There is a random Modern AU - courtesy of CI - and just been named Whiskey and Whimsy. I added that to a document too.

Goal is to have as much organized as we can by our next meeting. Also, you two need to buy me a lot of sake for all this insanity.

[ Do you have any Tobirama sensei headcanons? If so, could you share a few?

I thought about it over lunch, so here are my brand new headcanons:

Tobirama is a slavemaster. He won’t tolerate any result below perfection. Hiruzen, Homura and Koharu learnt this very early through endless repetitions of every single thing they were practicing. Every time they talk back earned them more exercises, though, so they quickly learned the art of diplomacy.

Tobirama grew up in an era of constant warfare. He has no way to know what the future will be like for Konoha’s ninja, so when in doubt, he exceeds, and trains his students with the same rigor he was trained himself. 

Teaching is something Tobirama loves, but it also frustrates him. Things that are perfectly logical for him are not for other people, and he always has to come up with new ways to explain concepts or moves that are very easy for him. He does get frustrated when, no matter what he says or does, his students just don’t get it, but he prides himself on his selfcontrol, and he never took it out on his students. When he’s at his limit, he takes a break to calm himself down rather than say something he’ll regret later. Kids are not at fault, he is.

Even if he was harshly reprimanded for it, Tobirama made sure his students’ first kill wasn’t on a battlefield, but in a controlled situation. He took his students to the prison and had them execute three people who were already slated for capital punishment. His students hated him for that, but that made sure that they knew what killing another person was like, and none of them froze the first time they killed in a fight, probably saving their lives.

Tobirama is an understanding teacher, and he never punishes them for asking questions. Nothing is taboo. 

Koharu was the first of the trio to discover that Tobirama allows himself to be bribed with sushi. 

You know Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter and his motto of “constant vigilance”? Well. That’s Tobirama. His teams comes to expect to be attacked out of the blue in the weirdest moments. They come to the point where they’re able to dismantle Tobirama’s traps when when yawning over their morning coffee our of sheer habit.

[Fear meme] Curses

'Curse' was a relative term in their world.

Some believed that the Huyga branch family was cursed by the Sōke no Juinjutsu, while others saw it as a blessing, a way to protect their precious Kekkei Genkai, an honour.

Some believe that the Uchiha was cursed with the Nikushimi no Noroi, while other saw it as a trickling tap that lead to a swirling, red pool of raw power.

Kakashi was more inclined to believe in the notion of 'fortune' and 'misfortune', of 'cause' and 'effect' and that at the end of the day, it could all be traced back to the utterly broken shinobi system they all formed a part of.

Did he fear it? Absolutely.

One should never grow lax in light of the fact that they were tools for their villages and that tools were sometimes (iie, most of the time) used to do terrible things.

That was their 'curse'.

I recently got an ask regarding Kiiroi Senko merch and I was wondering...Jiraiya was obviously more popular; both as an artist and a shinobi. Do you think he ever found his face plastered on random merchandise he never endorsed? If so, what was his reaction? [Also, hello it's been forever]

Good question!

You know, one of the things I liked right away in the Search for Tsunade arc was the slot machine she plays on (this is from a card I found but I remember it being in the anime too):

So I always like the thought that because the Sannin were famous mostly for their a) feat in war, b) their summons and c) their overt indulgence in the shinobi taboos, the use of the sansukumi imagery ended up being ‘unofficially’ used in casinos across the nations like the above.

Of course, it’s not something they have copyrighted or anything, but I could see them going to a casino some time after they’ve become famous, seeing these little frog-slug-snake nods everywhere and being like ‘... hey, are any of you guys getting royalties for this? they totally lifted our brand’

That aside, we see a fair few bits of toad/frog merchandise in general, which again I’d say is a nod to the fact that toads were always said to have strong ties to the Land of Fire, and Jiraiya’s iconic use of them just cemented that view further.

Other than that, I’m now definitely picturing like... you know fairground rides that have the really off-looking, miscoloured bootleg artwork of copyrighted characters or pop stars airbrushed on? So you’ll have a helter skelter that’s got some wind-themed name and there’s a wonky Orochimaru on it with bright blue markings and lime green eyes, a ride with a sudden drop that has a ginger Tsunade with her fist to the ground, and then perhaps a toad-themed trick house with an equally goofed Jiraiya with a bright pink and purple outfit or something :’D

This ended up a bit more specific to the Sannin overall pff! 

But as for Jiraiya specifically, I’m sure with his truly extra appearance and penchant for hot springs and bars, he’s been used on some posters and stuff without his knowing. Of course, I reckon he’ll get approached on a more official basis via his publishers for endorsements once he becomes more of a ‘household’ name through his books—and let’s face it, any bootleg stuff he’ll probably find it super funny, and be very happy to offer a better photo or what have you anyway :’)

Of course, we also can’t forget the card game that becomes popular by the Boruto era! I’m sure plenty of wonky figurines come from that, as we see consumerism begin to grow more commonplace.

[ Could you expand on the Kato bardic tradition? What sort of stories would Dan know? Would he be willing to entertain any curious ears, were they to pester him?

The tradition itself dates back to several generations prior to the formation of the Hidden Villages, when the nomadic Kato first came into being as a clan - when they established a temporary settlement on the southern coast of the Land of Lightning after a journey away from the founding family’s original home in the Land of Water. 

It was said that during those days, an unfathomable evil threatened their people, and while beseeching a being of the in-between places - a being that was neither good nor evil, god nor demon - the clan head was granted a boon so that he might defend their home and people. In the process, the color was stricken from his hair, and his spirit was released from his body, enabling him to destroy the threat. The ability to project his soul remained thereafter as a blessing from the deva, to whom he had sworn fealty. 

Future generations were marked with the same chakric and spiritual aptitude by the color of their hair.

The event itself and the legend it birthed was one that solidified the need for the a Kato talespinner, to take down their stories and songs, and to preserve their history as they traveled far and wide. Every generation had one, and every time their caravan moved along, the talespinner was a foundational and influential part of their religious and celebratory traditions. In some cases, the talespinner also focused on harnessing the alternative, gentler uses of their jutsu.

Dan was trained to succeed his uncle as the next Kato talespinner, since the clan was dwindling in numbers - primarily because he showed an aptitude and interest in folklore and mythologies from early childhood. He committed to memory the stories, songs, and folk dances passed along, as well as the stylings necessary to perform them. And as a treasured hobby of Dan’s is collecting the stories of other villages and nations he’s visited - along with visiting the ruins of those lost - there is always much to be added to his repertoire or documentation.

His personal favorites are long creation yarns pertaining to each region, as all are different, despite the prevalence of those in Fire Country.

With the slow loss of his family, there was little need for these skills, but he remains the one to keep them alive. But in short, he would absolutely entertain others who were willing to listen - as his skills no longer truly have an audience.

I got an interesting ask earlier, but it was too geared towards RP to tag you in ^^; so I thought I'd send you an altered version -- list 5 things your followers need to know about you as an artist/person [whatever you're comfortable with ne]. Also, got any pet peeves, Koko?

Oh, this sounds fun!! Let’s see:

1.  I love drawing portraits and the realistic art style, but I'm incapable of drawing realistic hair. I need tons of references and it always ends up looking a bit weird. In fact, nearly half the time I spend in a realistic drawing is spent drawing the hair 🤣

2. I hold full conversations with people while I'm asleep. I never remember anything once I wake up xD (my mum finds this incredibly weird hahaha)

3. As you can probably guess by my mangled English, it isn't my mother tongue :P

4. Before I created this tumblr account, I spent 7 years without practically drawing. Digital art has given me the energy to draw again ^^

5. My first fandom was Harry Potter, and I always end up going back to it when I lost interest in my current one. My favourite fanfic of all time is also a HP one: “A Black Comedy” by nonjon

Mmm, pet peeves you say? I can’t really think of anything. The only thing that comes to mind is... you know that person sitting near you (maybe in class, in the bus, in your own home) that keeps tapping their fingers against everyting? Omg, please stop 🤣🤣.

Aftermaths: Bloody Rivulets

Hiroshi struggled to keep up with his father and grandfather as they hurried up the path to the meeting place. All of his initial questions upon being roused from sleep had been met with the same answer they were going to meet with people who might give them shelter.

When they set out from their makeshift camp, more had accompanied them. Scouts keeping an eye out for any enemies trailing them from Kiri. At a certain point, however, Hiroshi had realized they were gone. When he asked, his grandfather was the one to reply. “They cannot accompany us any further, or the leaf shinobi will not speak with us.” Then there was silence, which gave Hiroshi plenty of time to ruminate over what was to come.

The past few weeks had been rough on the boy, full of fear and flight. As the war had raged on, Kirigarkure’s upper caste had demanded more and more of the Umitsu clan, given that their kekkei genkai was well-suited for war. At first, they had considered it an honor, a chance to rise from the second caste to the first. But the village had unrealistic expectations of their skills. When they did not get the results they wanted, they had started taking members of the clan.

So they had fled, or at least the main branch and a handful of remaining members had. They had passed several smaller villages, but each time his grandfather had said that it would be no match if the village wanted them back. They needed someplace stronger, someplace even Kirigakure wouldn’t confront directly.

The boy stumbled over a loose tree root, and his father grabbed his arm before he could fall. His grandfather shot him a cold look over his shoulder, and he straightened up. “We’re here.” He said, as they entered into a clearing. Hiroshi’s eyes widened at the small party waiting for them. From hearing his parents talk, he’d expected to see a host of shinobi waiting, armed to the teeth. If anything, it made him feel uneasy. Were they really that powerful?

They stopped a respectful distance away, and his grandfather and father bowed. Hiroshi followed a fraction of a second later, and did his best not to stare at anything but the ground.

“We greatly appreciate that your village agreed to meet with us.” His grandfather started. “I am Umitsu Takahiro, the clan head. As our previous correspondence stated, we are seeking asylum from Kirigakure, and are willing to offer the use of our clan’s shinobi and our kekkei genkai in exchange.”

What mythical creature would Kakachibi be? [#NarnianNationals]

[OOC:] Ano... For fear of stating the obvious and rather overdone Lycantrope idea ('cause really the Inuzuka Clan actually owns this) I'd say a Warlock, based primarily on the Old Norse derivation of the word varð-lokkur, which means "caller of spirits" or "summoner". In young Kakashi's case, said spirits would mostly take on the shape of tail-wagging, pup spirits or over the top, Water Dragons. Interesting enough the word also means "Oath-breaker" in Anglo-saxon (which ya know--awkward cough).

  Dust particles and specks of debris flitter through the air like falling stars. They are proof of Tomura’s resolve to chase his ambition and bear witness to the grand war taking place in its name. This day has been months in the making, serving as the last hurdle before the eventual crumbling of hero society. At least, it should have been. 

   To Tomura’s feet lie the quirk-destroying bullets he procured from Overhaul, shattered into tiny leaking pieces by none other than this random no-name hero. The battle has come to a stillstand as Tomura glares at him, bristling rage wafting off him in waves. Maybe, the hero knows he is about to meet his maker. Perhaps, his smugness is a testament to his pride. He destroyed what Tomura worked so hard to acquire: bullets that his friends were gravely injured and killed over. Their sacrifices are now in vain, and the hero dares to gloat.

  “It won’t,” Tomura informs him. He walks over slowly, taking his time. Once in front of the hero, Tomura’s hand shoots out and wraps around his throat, squeezing with four fingers. The remaining fifth hovers closely over pale skin. It will drop when Tomura made this man understand the severity of his mistake. “But this will.”

"Ne sensei?" asks the Iryō-nin in a hushed whisper, putting wild flowers in the blonde's oddly fluffy hair, their background filled with the daily, ever constant, bickering of the remaining two members of their team. Another daisy was fit in the gold locks before she continued "At what point in your career did you decide to become.... (strong/fast/ Hokage candidate/Konoha no Kiiroi Senkō) ...so sparkly?" The options were endless but she was curious about just this one thing.
