I decided to draw the isat characters as Three Houses classes. With the exception of Bonnie since they're too young for combat (but I guess they're probably also too young to be a student at Garreg Mach... oh well, they deserve to be included anyways). I went with assassin for Siffrin, enlightened one for Mirabelle, dark mage for Odile, and Grappler for Isabeau (but I did leave off the fabric things that hang off of the arms because they would have hidden most of the outfit)

A lot has been said about the use of color in Encanto but I think my personal favorite way they use it is to show Isabela coming into herself.

Before watching the movie, I always thought that Isabela weirdly stood out from the rest of her blue tones family unit. It makes sense in context though. While her dress was still a cool tone, the lilac made her closer to Alma’s color scheme. Which makes sense since Isabela was the perfect, golden child trying to always please her grandmother, and it’s also heavily implied that Alma was projecting on Isabela the life and future she feels that she lost in her youth.

We also barely saw Isabela interact with her parents or sisters, aside from Mirabel where the interactions were always negative. Her main interactions before her song are with Alma.

Even Isabela’s flowers tend more towards shades of pink and purple than anything else. This is especially evident in her room, where we see plenty of tones very close to the colors of Alma’s dress.
