One Dress a Day Challenge
August: Fantasy & Sci-Fi
Star Trek (s3e5, "Is There in Truth No Beauty?") / Diana Muldaur as Miranda Jones
In this episode, it appears the costumer has cleverly saved money and given the character's costumes a unifying look by using the same beaded net overdress with three different underlayers. In her first and final appearances, the underdress is made of green and blue printed fabric with cap sleeves coming to little points over the shoulder. Next is a sleeveless blue dress with a gathered neck; it is similar to the green dress from Mission Impossible that I featured recently, and this may not be a coincidence, as the relevant episodes of both shows aired in 1968. The final underdress is black with long sleeves.
Since each of the underdresses complements different colors in the beaded net layer, it really looks different every time!
ETA: I've been reminded that the overdress is actually a sensory net, as the character is blind. I admit I had forgotten that detail about its functionality. That's what I get for not taking the time to do a full rewatch when taking screencaps!

watched “is there no truth in beauty?” like a week ago and I can’t stop thinking about it. one-episode sexy lady doctor Miranda Jones really wants to have mind sex with a glow cloud alien. Spock also lowkey wants to have mind sex with the alien but he wants to have real sex with Kirk more. Miranda and Spock are established as competing romantic rivals.
then Spock has to have mind sex with the alien for plot reasons. Kirk tries to distract Miranda from it by having actual sex with her, but she’s secretly blind?? and therefore is immune to his physical charms. unseducable. Kirk has finally met a person who wouldn’t let him hit. Spock goes insane from alien mind sex and Miranda lowkey tries to mind kill him. Kirk calls her a bitch and so she saves Spock somehow by making it so that she’s constantly having mind sex with the alien all the time. end of episode no notes.

In 1961, a couple running a small café/gas station in New Mexico were concerned when a man stumbled in. They thought he was simply suffering from heat stroke as he acted as if he had never seen power lines, paved roads, and automobiles. The man claimed to have been leading a wagon train in the year 1847 and went looking for water for his people. His clothes and the fact that he had a period accurate weapon leaned toward his story being true. Learning that his son would grow up to be an important doctor, the man got some penicillin for his sick son and headed back to the wagon train. When the man vanished, his rifle aged a 100 years and fell apart.("A Hundred Yards Over the Rim", The Twilight Zone, TV)

Ranking my favorite Star Trek TOS girlies
This is specifically about the women of the week, excluding those who appeared once in TOS but later reappeared in other Star Trek shows (like T'Pring, Amanda or Una). There are so many! Most are kinda meh eye candy, however, some are just great. Here we go...
13 Kelinda (2x22 By Any Other Name) : she's not a girl, she is hundred tentacle alien trapped in a woman's body
12 Roberta Lincoln (2x26 Assignment: Earth) : just there to slay, she has some serious Doctor's companion vibes
11 Lenore (1x13 Conscience of the King) : a murderous girlie with an unhealthy fixation on her father, you gotta love her
10 Irina Galliulin (3x20 The Way to Eden) : Academy drop out in a sexy hippie polycule, what else do you need?
9 Shahna (2x16 The Gamesters of Triskalion) : admittedly mostly there to look pretty, but I love her, I want her to come back
8 Martha Landon (2x5 The Apple) : the first person in the show to high kick in a fight, honestly an icon
7 Horta (1x25 The Devil in the Dark) : she's a blob of lava, she's a mother, she's into Spock, she is everything
6 Daras (2x21 Patterns of Force) : she's an undercover freedom fighter who turned her own father in to get the enemy's trust, hardcore af
5 Marta (3x14 Whom Gods Destroy) : criminally insane Orion who quotes Shakespeare and then claims she is the author, iconic
4 Vanna (3x21 The Cloud Minders) : in her first scene she beats Kirk in a hand to hand combat, 'nough said
3 Janice Lester (3x24 Turnabout Intruder) : yes, go exercise your girl power by murdering a lot of people and stealing Kirk's body, you can do anything, I believe in you!
2 Romulan Commander (3x2 The Enterprise Incident) : the only female captain we'll get to have for a long time, absolute queen, so sexy and powerful with great sense of fashion
1 Miranda Jones (3x5 Is There in Truth No Beauty) : my favorite by a lot, she is conflicted, annoying, petty and ready to kick sexist and ableist asses on the spot
There are more that I could mention, but I thought 13 is an okay number to stop.
