heyo, could you explain what mixcloud is a little bit?

Absolutely! Mixcloud is a platform for DJs, radio personalities, and podcasters to upload full shows of copyrighted music for streaming. Their big benefit is that they comply with industry regulations and ensure that all artists/labels/etc are compensated for streams, similarly to how a conventional radio station pays for whatever music plays from their station over the air.

Obviously this is great for two reasons:

1. The musicians get compensated directly

2. Show creators can upload without fear of DMCA takedowns, unlike... pretty much any other online platform.

I follow to a few shows through Mixcloud and I can attest that (at least for me) they don't run obnoxious commercials or interrupt the shows. However, some of their policies mirror FCC regulations, which means that creators have to limit the number of appearances by a single artist in an hour, and listeners cannot skip forward and backward the way they might on a Spotify playlist. Additionally, some features, such as offline listening, are paywalled. There are also limits on how many shows they'll host if a DJ is using the free version.

It's not perfect, but I'm glad it exists! It would be the obvious platform choice for someone like me who's just starting out.

Good morning!  I hope you slept well and feel rested?  Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in Blue Towelling Robe No. 1, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.  Happy Hump Day!

On Tuesday, I felt better and, today, I feel even better!  Last night, I was in bed by 10.00.  Sleep is the only medicine I need.  It wasn’t flu, it wasn’t a virus, but was it a cold?  I looked at my PC and there was mention of high pollen count in the news.  Maybe it was just hay fever?  I used to take tablets and nasal spray for hay fever.  Sod that!  I am not taking any drugs.  My body is a temple.  

Today, I will be working from home.  I’ve got a two-hour Zoom class at 11.00, then I’ll make myself a huge and unnecessary sandwich.  Last Wednesday, I worked 7.00 – 7.00.  Today will be the same. 

As I said yesterday, my next lesson is April 18.  I now have ample time to read, write, exercise and visit friends.  Family go to JA for a wedding on April 2nd, so I will be all on my jack until the 10th.  I will get so much work done!  I will be using that down time very productively!     

Have you ever heard the term ‘industry plant’.  It’s an unflattering term used to describe musicians who become popular through nepotism, inheritance, wealth or connections in the music industry rather than their own merits.  Of course nepotism exists in the music industry.  It always has.  It exists in every industry.  So what?  The truly talented have 50-year careers (like Smokey Robinson or Paul McCartney), while 95% of music acts fade away pretty quickly.  When I was a teen, I auditioned for acting school but didn’t use my father’s name.  If I had, I probably would’ve got in?  I wanted to be accepted on my own merits, so I guess I wasn’t good enough?  It’s cool.  I was happy with my decision.   

At 8.30 last night, I got some good news!  To be honest with you, I became aroused.  A short text message is all it took.  A missive from one of our favourite people, announcing that he is re-launching a legendary club night and he wants me to be part of it.  I am beyond happy!

Have a wonderful and well-endowed Wednesday.  I love you all.  Yes, a crazy, bald man loves and cares about you.
