The Game Boy Advance Jazz Jackrabbit bosses aren’t much to write home about, but one thing I do like about them is that almost all of them actually tower over Jazz – and the only one that doesn’t, doesn’t use THIS boss music. And while it’s not a complicated piece, it really fits the feeling of “wow big monster”! The default JJ2 boss tunes almost feel laidback in comparison…
And so, when I started conceptualizing the boss for the next Demon Dash / Ultimate tileset demo, I thought it’d be cool to give Linzner’s composition a chance to shine, with some heavy lifting done to the melodies and structure. It’s still a tracker module, it’s still made to fit into JJ2’s style, but I thought it’d be fitting to make this song even more stereotypically 90’s! Enjoy!
Original piece by Manfred Linzner for Jazz Jackrabbit (GBA, 2002) Pattern 10 solo written by Rosie McDamsel

Schism Tracker ~ Create High Quality Music
Schism Tracker is a free and open-source reimplementation of Impulse Tracker, a program used to create high quality music without the requirements of specialized, expensive equipment, and with a unique “finger feel” that is difficult to replicate in part. The player is based on a highly modified version of the ModPlug engine, with a number of bugfixes and changes to improve IT playback. Where…

Wait the John freeman song was made by your ex???
Unfortunately.
She was visiting at the time and was making it in my bedroom. Her tool of choice was ModPlug Tracker, which meant that she had to listen to the same sample ad nauseum the entire time she was making it. She wouldn't wear headphones because I didn't have any of "high quality," and she eventually got sick of the sound of me playing a video game and kicked me out of my own space. I was living with my mom at the time (I was in my late teens), but she was at work and I was just... locked out of my room, alone, and away from all my stuff so she could do her thing.
It's not the worst thing she did. She's done a lot worse. But the John Freeman song was a massive fucking annoyance for a variety of reasons (laying on the couch, bored out of my mind, physically incapable of getting to my stuff, and hearing JOHN J-JOHN J-JOHN JOHN JOHN JOHN FREEMAN on a loop through the wall), but maybe not as bad as her ditching a bunch of my family's food to make room for all of her fucking energy drinks (HALF THE GODDAMN FRIDGE) or the time she dirtied every fucking dish in my kitchen to make the most godawful pasta I've ever had in my life (WATER AND A SPRINKLE OF DAMN NEAR ALL OF MY MOM'S SEASONINGS ON RAMEN, including the fucking NUTMEG? And then looking at me and saying, "Clean up is on you. :)" And I am just standing there with murder in my eyes).
... She's still done a lot worse than be an inconsiderate annoyance, though. Don't support her. I'm being intentionally vague, because I'm exhausted.

How long have you been composing music for?
I first started composing music in 2007. Back then I tried different free DAWs/editors… But the resulting listenable music was only after 2012.
After that I became interested in creating tracker music. So I chose OpenMPT (Modplug) and I stayed with it until recently in 2023, when I switched to Renoise, but very soon I ended up on Ableton Live Suite, in which I still compose.
Sometimes I switch between them and I'm extremely satisfied with both.😊✨

Original Song - Devils’ Drive (CD Version)
https://youtu.be/KjrWdC9pmLo
I remade a song I first did in DefleMask about a month ago. DefleMask is cool, but kinda flawed. I’d be more likely to keep using it if it would import/export midi. On the other hand I go way back with Modplug Tracker, OpenMPT is really comfortable to use :)

I wonder if it will work somehow... and if there's a brave soul that will click... +++ EDIT I had to listen it all to notice, that it gets wierd after playing to the end. It loops, but somehow breaks the pattern order. If you wanna experience the full thing without glitches, it's best to get the original file (.xm, fast tracker module, and you're right, wth is the module..., but!),play it with some decent player: vlc, winamp or xmplayer gets the job done; and if you feel hardcore and hackery, get the modplug tracker, or (even the mostest the bestest) fast tracker, and then you can see how the numbers make music, trurly demostyle

"wasn't this included as a demo song in OpenMPT at some point?"
As a matter of fact, yes!  It was added v1.22, as was the "MO3" file format.  As of v1.25, however, Coda's example song is Rosemario, and it's in MPTM format instead of MO3.
Good catch!

finally finished music for Demon Dash level 1 I think... now just gotta make the level at some point lol. it's inspired by various bombastic first level/area themes in games like Mega Man X or non-linear Castlevanias, but while still trying to keep a Jazz Jackrabbit sound (vast majority of the samples is from JJ2 & JJ3 + it's an IT module). basically I wanted to make something that promises the start of a grand adventure

Dana Kaproff, Rave669 Theme Song (MPTM Conversion) The Amazing Spider-Man (1977, unknown year) Charles Fries Productions, Inc.
SpiderFunk - by Rave669 (aka Big-E) A cover of the theme song to the 1970's Spider Man TV show. Notes: I have a deeply held love for Funk Music. I've been tracking away at this song for a couple months here and there, finally got it done (althougfh it's far from perfect) so I hope you all like it. Original theme was composed by Dana Kaproff (All rights reserved) and this is an homage to his awesome work, so fair use applies.

you're my hero. What do you use for music? Tracking software? (impulse tracker, fast tracker, maybe modplug tracker?)
I used Modplug/OpenMPT for a very long time (2013 - 2023) I mostly created music in Impulse Tracker format.
Today I switched to Renoise, but I also alternate with Ableton Live. And I am satisfied with both like never before.😊✨
