Gundam o Serie Gundam es una franquicia de anime de ciencia ficción.

Su creador es Yoshiyuki Tomino y está producida para los estudios Sunrise, que son los que se encargan de su emisión.

La temática que tratan estas series está relacionada con los conflictos bélicos que se producen entre humanos.

Existes tres tipos: Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G (2010), Gundam Build Fighters (2013) y Gundam Build Fighters Try (2014).

Una marca muy reconocida y de gran prestigio en el sector de las maquetas es Tamiya.

Tiempo atrás en los años 80`s, el éxito de la serie Mobile Suit Gundam dio paso a la Fiebre Gunpla, la cual aumentó la venta de las figuras armables plásticas de los gundams, mejor conocidas como Gunplas, a niveles estratosféricos. Años después, con el éxito de la segunda fiebre Gunpla, y gracias a la invención de las partículas Plavsky, que permiten a los modeladores de Gunplas enfrentar a sus creaciones con las de otros,  surgieron torneos especiales llamados Batallas Gunpla, organizados alrededor del mundo para ver cuál es el mejor Gunpla personalizado y quien es el mejor modelador. Sei Iori, un estudiante y joven modelista de Gunpla, sueña con convertirse en el mejor Luchador Gunpla y ser tan bueno como su padre, sin embargo sus pobres habilidades para la lucha le han llevado a una serie de derrotas. Pero un buen día conoce a un misterioso muchacho llamado Reiji, que aunque ignorante de muchas de las cosas de la sociedad actual, es poseedor de unas increíbles habilidades a los mandos de los Gunpla, es así como estos dos combinaran sus talentos, para abrirse camino a través del torneo mundial de batallas gunplas  en pos de volverse los número uno del mundo.

Estrenada durante la temporada de otoño del 2003 Gundam Build Figthers, es como imaginaran por el titulo una de las tantas series perteneciente a la franquicia Gundam, siendo la misma una expansión del concepto presentado originalmente en el OVA del 2010 Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G, salida en su momento para conmemorar el 30º aniversario de la susodicha franquicia, siendo la serie como todas sus pares una producción del estudio Sunrise elaborado bajo la dirección de Kenji Nagasaki, contando con un total de 25 episodios, y la cual un año después en el 2014 vería estrenada una secuela titulada  Gundam Build Figthers Tri, de la cual ya hablaremos en otra ocasión. Pese a pertenecer a la franquicia Gundam, Build Figthers es realmente un trabajo que se aleja bastante de las temáticas típicas de la misma, dejando de lado todo el tema de los conflictos bélicos entre la tierra y sus colonias espaciales, que suelen ser el centro de los títulos principales de estas series, para entregarnos a cambio un anime de corte mucho mas infantil, siendo la misma realmente un gran comercial enfocado en hacer promoción a los Gunpla, las características figuras de plástico armables de los gundams, mas resultando el titulo una obra increíblemente competente en lo que a otorgar entretención se refiere.

La serie pues nos ubica en un mundo muy similar al nuestro, pero con la pequeña diferencia de que en el mismo las series Gundam son un gran boom mundial, éxito producido en parte gracias al éxito de las batallas Gunplas, competiciones llevadas a cabo entre modeladores de figuras Gunplas, esto mediante el uso de campos de batallas especiales  que emplean el poder de las misteriosas partículas Plavsky, las cuales no solo permiten a los Gunpla moverse y ser controlados mediante una interfaz virtual, si no que adema permite simular el efecto de armas de rayos y similares. Es aquí donde entra ene ce nuestro protagonista, Sei Iori, un gran entusiasta de Gundam, y habilidoso modelador de Gunplas, que deseando seguir los pasos de su padre quiere probar suerte en participar en el torneo mundial de batallas Gunplas, ¿el problema?, pues que Iori por muy buen modelador que sea, apesta como piloto, y no es capaz de ganar ninguna batalla por muy buenos que sean sus modelos, por suerte un buen día termina conociendo al enigmático Reiji, un joven de su edad algo cabezota y sin mucho conocimientos de nuestra sociedad actual y mundo, pero poseedor de habilidades de combate Gunpla increíbles, del cual Iori terminara haciéndose amigos, formando los dos una dupla de oro que buscara hacerse con el oro en el torneo, al tiempo que conocen a otros habilidosos modeladores y pilotos, y disfrutan de las emocionantes batallas Gunplas en  las que tendrán que dar el todo por el todo.

El anime como verán es en base la típica serie de formato torneo enfocada en hacer promoción a un producto o juego, en este caso los Gunplas, y con unos protas que buscan ser los mejores en el mismo,  nada nuevo bajo el horizonte, mas lo que hace especial a Build Figthers no es ni su formato ni su historia, la cual cabe decir es bastante predecible y típica siendo de esos trabajos que no se toman especialmente en serio a sí mismo, si no sus carismáticos y queribles personajes,  sus por demás atractivos diseños de mecha, y por sobre toda su tremendo nivel de acción, ofreciendo dinámicos y muy entretenidos combates entre mechas, que estoy seguro serán del agrado de cualquier fanático del genero. Adicionalmente a esto, cabe mencionar que si hay algo que creo que hay que dejar en claro cuando hablamos de este anime, es que pese a tener el mismo  un enfoque claramente infantil, siendo su objetivo el atraer al público más joven al mundo de los Gunplas, creo que los que a la final mas lo van a disfrutar serán los fans mas conocedores de la franquicia, en parte por tener la oportunidad de poder ver  viejos mechas conocidos con una nueva estética,  topándonos con muchos rediseños y variantes de robots con los que ya nos hemos topados en títulos anteriores de las series Gundams, y en parte por la cuantiosa cantidad de cameos y referencia que se hacen presentes a lo largo del título, desde menciones directas a sucesos de los otros Gundams, hasta llegar a ver personajes de las misma paseándose como si nada en pantalla, ya sea en la forma de extras que solo vemos en los fondos o en alguna que otra imagen estática, o en el caso del viejo Ramba Ral, como personajes activos dentro de la historia.

En lo que al desarrollo respecta la serie es muy llevadera, el titulo si bien como ya comente presenta una trama bastante típica y predecible, la misma se mueve a un ritmo constante, nunca estancándose y evitando así que uno se llegue a aburrí en algún momento, a lo que también ayuda el hecho de que la obra sea de por sí muy ligera, teniendo con esto uno de esos trabajos que se dejan ver en cosa de nada. Respecto a los personajes, no tengo queja alguna, el elenco es pintoresco, divertido y en general muy entrañable, con personajes carismáticos que son un agrado de ver en pantalla, resultando uno que otro medio ridículo o exagerado de una manera muy amena, y siendo a la final la gran mayoria entes muy memorables.

Visualmente hablando la serie se ve bastante bien, como ya abre comentado en alguna otra ocasión, Sunrise siempre consciente a su franquicia estrella y esta no es la excepción, y  si bien la animación no es que sea espectacular, rara vez desentona, con un buen nivel de fluidez y detalle en el dibujo, así mismo los diseños de personajes son muy atractivos, expresivos  y llamativos, mismo se puede decir de los diseños mecánicos, siendo posiblemente el único aspecto en el que al seria flojea un poco, lo referente al trabajo de fondos, que no es que estén mal pero rara vez resaltan. Respecto a la música si bien realmente la serie no presenta ningún tema especialmente memorable, el soundtrack es por demás correcto entregándonos un muy buen compendio de tonadas ambientales, que relucen especialmente durante los combates, nunca habiendo un tema fuera de lugar. Adicionalmente el anime presenta dos temas de opening y de ending, titulados respectivamente: "Nibun no Ichi", "wimp ft. Lil’Fang (from FAKY)", "Imagination > Reality"  y "Hanpan Spirit ", de entre los cuales personalmente me quedo con el segundo opening.

Si bien en una primera instancia Build Figthers es solo otra serie vende juguetes mas, a la larga resulta ser un trabajo muy llevadero, que destaca por su buena acción, y sus personajes y situaciones por demás entretenidas, la cual cumple con creces en su labor de no solo atraer a nuevo publico sino también de complacer a los viejos fans que decidan darle la oportunidad, en fin, échenle el ojo si tienen la oportunidad, es un titulo simple pero que vale mucho la pena.

Si algo tiene la franquicia de Gundam, aparte de las excelentes series, es contar con una mercancía de alta calidad y valor emocional, entre ella el fenómeno de los modelos armables de los mechas, conocidos a nivel mundial como gunplas, es el Hobbie que mas atrae fans alrededor de los coleccionistas, debido a este boom se realizo esta Ova especial, que a su vez sirve como comercial de 45 minutos, en donde los coleccionistas constructores de gunplas tienen la opción de combatir con el modelo que han comprado, algo muy sencillo pero que cumplió exitosamente con su propósito. La historia gira alrededor de un grupo de jóvenes aficionados a los modelos plásticos de Gundam, Haru Irei decide convertirse en un constructor de Gunplas luego de obtener su primer modelo. Su amiga, Rina Noyama, es una chica siempre alegre y así mismo, aférrima fan de los modelos, y la voz de la experiencia Kenta Sakazaki que es un chico que le da consejos a Haru de cómo construir Gunplas y combatir con ellos.

Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G: Best Advert I Ever Watched

When it comes to Gundam, there's a fair few animé circulating the internet. From the insane fighting fest that is G Gundam, to the angst of Gundam Wing, there's been a series for everyone. Now sunrise has capitalised on all those collectors of Gundam models, with there short series Mobile Suit Gunpla Builders Beginnings G. After a visit to the 1/1 scale RX-78-2 Gundam, our story's hero, Haru Irei discovers a love for making Gundam plastic models. After failing to pick up a 1/144 scale version of the original Gundam, he makes do with the series name sake, the Beginning Gundam. The three episodes follow him, and his friends Kenta Sakazaki and Rina Noyama as they build there own kits and participate in virtual Gundam fights with their plastic models.

The series builds towards the national Gunpla Championships. Players scan in their models, and then pilot them in a virtual reality game to prove who’s the best. It helps the break up the series. Instead of focusing on one small boy making models (which to my shame, I would quite happily watch) it helps to pace the show, giving Haru a reason to keep working at making his Beginning Gundam the best that it can be. Oh and a good bit of deus ex machina at the end means that his Gundam gets the perfect parts to help dominate the competition. This series feels a lot like the Beyblade or Bakugan end of the animé spectrum. People in the animé are only cool if they have the best toys, and messages of trying your hardest and not making silly mistakes are piled on throughout the series. This becomes especially prevalent, when Haru's beginning Gundam loses to the forever Gundam because it isn't constructed and painted as well as his opponents model. At the end of the day, the whole thing seems like a big old advert to make people buy more Gundam products, albeit an advert with a plot. Special attention is made to showing the construction of the Gundams, and the painstaking detail put into making them just right. As a person that has himself recently gotten into Gunpla, it's quite humbling, and really makes you want to have a go yourself. I guess that Bandai really hit the mark with this animé then.

Some of the characters are quite ridiculous. For starters, let me talk about Boris Schauer. Not only does he resemble Char Aznable of Gundam fame, sporting his red clothes and ludicrously pretty blonde hair, he even serves as the primary protagonist, and even sounds like the man himself. Even better is that he insists on riding a beautiful white horse everywhere, making his subordinates (all dressed in military garb) chase him around on foot. Did I also mention he's a 30 something man, who has an obsession with making Haru the best Gunpla fighter? Little bit weird if you ask me. Plus don't don't get me started on Tatsu Shimano, who starts out calm and quiet, but when it comes to Gunpla Battles, he goes bat shit insane.

A nice touch is that they feature a few well known mecha from the various Gundam series. The classic Gundam from the original series makes an appearance, as well as the Sazabi, the mech used by Char Aznable in the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counter Attack. Also the badass looking Astray Red Frame gets sliced apart just three seconds after it enters the frame, so I'm hoping fans don't catch a glimpse of this happening. Of course there are some nice new units, which inevitably got made into real life models, in the show. Of course there's the Beginning, plus the missile packingSuper Custom Zaku. My personal favourite has to be Bearguy, a heavily customised mech owned by Rina, made to, yes you guessed it, look like a bear.

Well this is a little different. Unlike the other series I've watched so far, there is no continuation. The who thing is three episodes long, and each is merely 15 minutes in length. Needless to say I managed to watch the whole thing in a single sitting. Its very light weight, and wont demand you to think to far outside the box, or question the morals of the characters. As I’ve previously mentioned, its not much more than a glorified advert, but it was quite fun whilst it lasted. If you really love Gundam, and love Gunpla even more, then give this a go, otherwise you'll feel like Bandai are demanded money from you to buy more models that you do/do not need.
