So I thought since Nathaniel and Kenny become yo-kai once they die, Lucy and Kelly when they inevitably die too in the future will do the same.

They can finally be together with their partners in death, as their love transcends all.

Their names are Bold L and Bold K, based on Moximous Mask's sidekick's name, Bold Basher. They're both of the Charming Tribe.

Yokai Watch: Rewritten

Episode 1: Prologue

We start with the “prologue” to Yokai Watch, being the opening cutscene, the character creator, and the menu options. There are two main things here that I find notable. First, the opening cutscene. While the original Japanese version has a 2d cutscene of Nate finding the crank a kai (beautifully animated, btw), before fading to black, the English version adds a compilation of gameplay, accompanied with the song ‘Swampy Marsh’. This addition, while seemingly harmless, lead to Swampy Marsh replacing Gera Gera po as the opening theme of the series in the western localization. This is odd, since basically no-one likes Swampy Marsh more than Gera Gera Po, assuming Nostalgia is taken out of the picture.

(Also, unless I specifically bring it up, assume I have no issues with the music in this game, as this series has some of the best music ever)

Second, the character creator is… kinda bad. You are given the option to choose between one of three save files, Nate or Katie to play as, and then you can name the character. There are two oddities with this. First, the character limit for naming things. Yokai Watch has a “nickname character limit”, which is reasonable, as otherwise names may go out of the border of the screen. However, the limit is 8 characters. This is an issue, as may yokai’s normal names is above 8, as well as it restricting nicknames heavily. There is also a limit in special characters you can have, which is odd.

Having three save files is great tho, obviously. Surely this will stay the same as we go on…

Finally, Katie and Nate lead to large issues, which span the whole series, which I will cover here. These two cause some actual gameplay differences, being A: you can go in men’s toilets as Nate and vice versa for Katie, B: Katie finds Moximous K in 2, while Nate finds Moximous N, C: Nate’s house is in a different location to Katies, D: Katie and Nate swap out as an NPC, and, most importantly, E: Nathanial is replaced by Kenny in 2.

While the toilets and house locations aren’t big differences, the others lead to issues. Nathanial being swapped for Kenny leads to MAJOR lore changes, to the point of Nate’s grandparent’s stopping existing when playing as Katie. Second, it leads to the creation of Moximous K, who is basically a non-canon yokai, which leads to WAY too many questions. Finally, the most subtle, but arguably most notable, it restricts Katie as a character. Due to being a playable character who does all the same things as Nate, it locks Katie into being just “girl Nate” in personality. This sucks, cause’ in 3, where she’s not playable, she’s easily at her best! (not great, just best)

There are positives though. Having a girl option is obviously great, but having changes like a different house is cool, and builds the world a bit.

To sum this up, the positives are the music, animation, and the amount of save files, while the negatives are the added Swampy Marsh, the name limits, and the issues it puts on Katie.

…If I had this much to say before even starting the game, how long will this series be?

I wanted to draw the Yo-kai form of other of my favorite characters, Kenny Forester /Fumiaki Kodama, I already made his granddaughter a while ago (Mee2 Katie's Yo-kai form) and I wanted to dedicate a sketch page to him to practice and learn about his design

Got Moximous K first try in my transferred save file of Bony Spirits(that is now in Psychic Specters) and decided to trade him over to my Fleshy Souls file so my Snartle has a buddy to partner up with.

Now my entire party has a buddy system. I’m so proud~!

Curious Theory

Nathaniel Adams = Moximous N Kenny Forester = Moximous K Nate Adams = Fuu2 Katie Forester = Miifuu All four of them have or do own a Yo-kai Watch (admitedly in seperate universes, but that's not the point here, unless you prefer AUs where both kids have Yo-kai Watches) and they have been confirmed to have Yo-kai forms. Does owning a Yo-kai Watch make you more likely to become a Yo-kai or is this just a strange coincidence? Or alternatively, does being related to someone with connections to the Yo-kai Watch make you more likely to become a Yo-kai?
