Now I present to you, my favorite way to get attached to a male character:
“Look at that lil guy with mommy issues, I wanna lay my head on his shoulder, drum my fingers on his kneecap and promise him everything will be alright.”
Examples:

(It actually won’t be okay but I can lie)
I love them so much

📽️ Mr. Harrigan’s Phone (2022)
The trailer, along with knowing it was based on a Stephen King story, made this movie look promising. I’m usually a fan of thriller, especially with a creepy supernatural element like a dead guy calling someone. Unfortunately, this movie didn’t hit that mark. I kept waiting for something good to happen or for there to be some action, but nothing happened. It ended up being a boring movie with an anticlimactic ending. This movie was disappointing.
Sex/nudity: 1/10 (male in the shower, no genitalia shown)
Language: 3/10 (one f-word, relatively little else)
Violence: 4/10 (nothing crazy, several deaths with not much shown, kid gets beat up with some blood shown)
Overall rating: 3/10

🎃 31 Days of Halloween 🎃
Day 6
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone
“Craig, a young boy, befriends the elderly billionaire John Harrigan. Craig then gives him a mobile phone. However, when the man dies, Craig discovers that he can communicate with his friend from the grave.”
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is adapted from a short story written by Stephen King. I would describe this movie as ominous yet touching. Sad and scary. There were many elements to this story. Because of this, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone was more than just a ghost story. It was a story of grief and loneliness. A story of two people who lead completely different lives but who are not so different after all & how they are connected in both life & death. To me, it was more about the power of grief, the strong hold it can have on you, and the importance of letting go.
Let me know your interpretation.
Edit
Someone asked me more about the horror side of this movie without spoiling it. That was very hard to do but I tried.
Even the “scary” parts weren’t really scary. It was really more of King’s tamer stories and honestly, it felt more like a Stand By Me or a coming of age film. The horror aspect is used more as a teaching device for the main character. It has an ominous and suspenseful feel but even then, this horror movie isn’t really horror to me. It is more of an emotional film. There was little substance to the horror side of things. I enjoyed it but not as a horror film. It would be a good movie for people who don’t like horror but like suspense. To really see what I mean, you will probably have to watch it. To tell you the horror portion would mean just telling you flat out what happens. Don’t go into it expecting horror though. I feel they marketed this entirely wrong for the actual story.

Mr.Harrihan’s Phone
Stephen King'in kısa öyküsüne dayanan netflix filmi.
   The Wailing

Watching Mr. Harrigan's Phone, not because of Stephen King, but because i saw the name Blumhouse connected to it. I mean. Also Donald Sutherland. But Blumhouse had turned out amazing horror so it's gotten to the point where i see the name and hit play.

31 Nights of Halloween Horror: Day 5
I watched this movie on time, I was just so tired after it finished I went to bed instead of posting lol. My choice for yesterday was technically a horror movie (imdb specifically only listed it as a horror) but this this movie was more a drama than horror, but I’ll get into that. The movie was Mr. Harrigan’s Phone
Tumblr media
I rated this 6/10. As I said, it was more a drama than anything scary, though the texts the teen receives were creepy as hell, until the explanation, then they were sad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good movie, but not really a horror. Good acting from Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland was great as usual. I think I would have liked this more initially if it had been listed as a drama, but oh well. Still good.

2022 Horror Challenge: [48/?]
↳"When I die, when it's my time to go, I wanna be buried with empty pockets." Mr. Harrigan's Phone (2022) dir. John Lee Hancock
Plot: When Mr. Harrigan dies, Craig, the teen who befriended and did odd jobs for him, puts his smart phone in his pocket before burial. When the lonely youth sends his dead friend a message, he is shocked to get a return text.
Starring: Jaeden Martell, Donald Sutherland, Joe Tippett & Kirby Howell-Baptiste
Another movie that's part of the catch-up. It's sad how I keep letting myself get behind on these posts but oh well. I tried going into this one with an open mind and I gotta say, I agree that this movie doesn't really feel like it's for horror lovers. I know, it's a slow burner and it has some things to say, which I appreciate. Also, Jaeden Martell & Donald Sutherland both do a nice job establishing their friendship before the death. So, there's certainly positives in there. I feel like as an actual horror movie tho, those elements feel very tacked on. The sequences themselves are okay, but they feel like a different movie. Idk, something about the whole thing felt like it was trying too hard. It might just be that this felt like this is a Stephen King story that didn't really need a film adaptation for me personally. There are elements that I liked about it though so it wasn't the worst thing, but it didn't really grab me sadly. Sorry.

Moody Trailer Cover Songs
youtube
What is it about these spooky, somber remixes that became so popular since the 2010s?
youtube
This trend of taking a well-known song, usually an R&B tune, and having it be edited with a slow tempo, turned into a sinister instrumental, or have a sultry singer make their own haunting cover of it has been divisive depending on the audience.
youtube
The most prominent examples of this trope include Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love in “Fifty Shades of Grey”, Say My Name by Destiny’s Child in the requel to Candyman, and the tethered mix of Luniz’ I Got 5 On It in Jordan Peele’s horror classic, Us (Which is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE COVER ❤️♥️❤️).
These are either used in trailers for romantic dramas or horror films and shows. Sometimes, the covers are well-received or considered cringey by viewers. For me, I think all of these are pretty catchy and fun to replay once in a while. Even though I do not like all of the films attached to the trailer (looking at you Fatal Affair), I’d listen to that creepy stalker remix of “All the Things (Your Man Won’t Do) any time.
What’s your favorite moody trailer cover?
Do you have any ideas to create your own?
youtube
P.S. If there is going to be a Scream VII (which is very likely), I hope the trailer will be set to a “Moody Cover” of Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds”, while the characters within the movie make a meta-reference to this particular trope.
youtube
Just listen to these lyrics and you’ll see what I mean! 🎶🎼🎵

So much time is devoted to spelling out throwaway aspects of the plot, that the screenplay neglects to show what would be a healthy curiosity regarding its central mystery.

Mr. Harrigan's Phone
