This is frustrating me to no end! I've been searching for this fic I read last year and cannot remember the title or author. I've been searching for months! Hermione time traveled back to Marauder's era, did that whole horcrux thing (wink), fell in love with Severus, and created a divergent timeline. The ending has their little girl shopping for her wand at Ollivander's and she can see 'ghosts' of people that should have died and stuff. Like she can see the old timeline. Any ideas?

There are a few stories with time travel in which Hermione changes the timeline and deals with the Horcruxes. As far as I can tell, these two are the closest to the fic you describe. But I'm not 100% sure either one is the one you are looking for. Hopefully someone can chime in!

i just understood something about denethor’s second-best complex and it's that when you have always been the second choice you either develop awful internalized self loathing or you become filled with bitter resentment against the entire world forever and ever. and he is so much the second option (lol. that was unintentional) that it physically pains me. he is just. his pride. his pride is so towering that i think the only possible interpretation is that he thinks that no one who has ever relegated him to second-best has ever understood him or his purpose or, later on in his life, his destined position to lead gondor into war. it only strengthens his resolve, not weakens it, but it festers long and deep and bitter.

it's not like he wants to BE anyone he's been compared to. he is exactly who he is and he is born and made and honed to the edge of the purpose he is facing. and the tragedy of it is that he has become less of himself, in meeting that need. to sharpen himself to a blade has meant carving away parts of himself too dear to survive. hey what's up with that. better to burn sooner than later for burn we must. better to make myself into a weapon rather than have the war take my softness from me. not understanding, blinded by pride and the desperate need for any sort of agency, that the end result will always be the same.

it could have been understanding, between him and faramir - to be someone who is not naturally suited to the times that they live in but going on, despite it. but instead he just recreates the cycle. because he is second-best again - to gandalf, to faramir's moral code - and he thinks you are most like me - how dare you not understand. there’s jealousy and resentment in saying that faramir wants to be a lord of old kingly wise gentle etc. because maybe once he wanted that, too, yet could not allow it for himself anymore. he is the only one that can be who he is, what he is, and so he has no other choice. doomed by his own self-image but like...is he wrong? augh.

After being stuck in the city of Quiet for months now, Ford’s discovered there’s still so much to explore, even though it ends once you meet its edge. He’s also discovered that people either stay dead for good or they come back to life and other people come back as well - something he doesn’t like, since he’s hoping people from his world don’t come into Quiet with the intention of kicking his ass and ruining the good thing he has going with Elif. But so far, no one he’s known has shown up. So far, the only people who want to kick his ass are the mythical creatures and villains that aren’t from this world, and they’re bad enough on their own. 

He had planned on not dying there – planned being the word. Up until he’d gotten stabbed by a fucking fairy, and a cute one that looked like it came out of a coloring book at that. It was fluttering by when he was picking flowers for Elif in the garden near Diana and Juliet’s green house, when it happened.

Elif had saw, which had made it worse. Oh, it had made it so bad to him. He wished she hadn’t seen. Because she looked so pained. Which in turn made him look so much more hurt than he actually was when he hit the ground, blood trickling down his light blue button-up shirt and down his mouth.

“I’m fine, just hurts a prickle,” he said with a smile, even though it did sting.

Elif holds him as he’s on the ground, “I know it hurts more than a little bit,” she argued. Always arguing with her, is all he can think of, which makes him laugh, which makes him ache. 

“No, no – I’m fine. Kiss me,” he said, even though he was in no state for a kiss. “Not on the lips, but the back of my hand, my cheek.” 

Elif kissed both his cheeks, then began to sob. “You better come back if you die.” She said, nudging him. 

“I can’t promise you that.” Ford told her, coughing up more blood. 

“Can’t believe after all we’ve fought -- giants, vampires, mannequins -- you're getting killed by tinke.rbell,” she replied.

 He laughed harder, choking a bit. “I…know…I know.” He wanted to say more, but before he could he can’t, it went dark on him, and Elif felt his hand go limp. She cried harder. He did come back later, but he doesn’t recall dying and it’s been months since he’s last been there, even if Elif said it's been two days since he's died.

Drawing on my phone is so great like I can do it literally anywhere and any time I want, and it takes some of my perfectionistic tendencies away as well. I don't think it's optimal for the shading step because the stylus pressure doesn't seem to register as well (if at all) but fortunately I can then sync the piece to my laptop and do that part there 🙌
