Thoughts on House's relationship with the ducklings? I don't think it gets talked about enough

This is a GOOD question.

My favourite House/duckling relationship is Chase and him. I think it’s such a multifaceted thing, where Chase is really searching for someone to look up to and House is just there. Chase has long given up on any religious belief, but he’s grown up being a man of faith. He went to seminary school, belief in a higher being was what he needed. Then comes House. He is such a dick. He doesn’t give a shit about what other people need, but despite that; he’s always right. He’s always right. And Chase quickly starts seeing him as the higher being he lacked before.

I also am a full believer in Chase and Thirteen being the only ducklings who genuinely just like House for him. I mean, there are points where this is called into question but otherwise I really believe this.

Chase is this kid who comes into his career and goes into working for House quite quickly. He doesn’t become a doctor because he wants to become world-renowned or because he has some inane calling to it, he does it because it seems to be the only logical thing for him to do next. Then he starts working for House, and he really likes it. He likes House, he likes his crazy shenanigans. He’s the only one who just goes back to him and that’s why.

Also I think it’s so funny that Taub is just there, cause if you’re looking at all the different people who have worked in the team almost all of them have had some kind of childhood trauma. Taub is just a serial cheater, which makes him some kind of fucked up, just not the type we’re used to. I do like him though. He’s committed to actually curing the patient whilst everyone else is just fucking around. I often hear him mid scene saying “can we get back to the patient?” which is exactly what I need to hear in a medical drama. He’s what House needs among all the enabling the others do. Although he does pick on Taub, he does it because he knows Taub is an insecure shit, but also a righteous insecure shit.

Kutner was probably one of my favourite ducklings. He was exactly what the team needed. He wasn’t scared of doing something, he was goofy, lacked any kind of self preservation. Most of all he was smart whilst doing all of those things. I think about that scene where the team is trying to figure out one of Houses metaphors, and they finally FINALLY get it before kutner walks in and is like “oh yeah i got it on my own”. LIKE THAT IS SO GIRLBOSS.

House likes him. He has always dealt with others being against his crazy actions, but here is someone who does it willingly and without any intervention.

I wanted to talk about Thirteen… but this post is already too long and I spent most of it talking about Chases blond-headed ass. Otherwise this about sums it all up.

just curious how did you get into yui/DL if you're anti diaboy

Oh that. Well tbh honest, I wasn't into DL back during when it was first released considering that, despite being a otome game, some of the scenes in the anime adaptation look something out of a horror movie, not mentioned that I don't vibe very well when it comes to horror media on a visual scale. And thus over the years, I didn't pay attention to it, especially towards Yui back then since I was young at that time.

It's only when I first took a liking to Yui and a disdain towards the boys was around back (I think?) 2019-2020 (aka during the Pandemic) that I was reading and looking for some fanfics of Diabolik Lovers that have Yui paired up with an oc whose better that the boys (and mostly because I don't care on having to look in the playthroughs and media) and the more I've begin to see the context of Yui's situation under the toxic influence control of the Sakamakis, Mukami and Tsukinami's behind the "sexy handsome Twilight-esque vampire harem boy fantasy" and her messed up destiny as both sacrificial bride and Eve within the series.

Suddenly, my mind went from "man I don't see how ppl ship Yui with either of the boys, it's more interesting to see her shipped with someone else or an oc" to "OH MY GOD, HOW COULD ANYBODY BE INTERESTED IN THIS SERIES!? THE MALE VAMPIRE LEADS ARE DISGUSTING AND TERRIFIYING AND THIS POOR GIRL IN THERE DOESN'T DESERVE ALL THOSE HORRIBLE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING TO HER! SHE DESERVES TO BE AWAY FROM THEM OR BETTER YET, PUT A STOP TO THOSE BOYS AND THEIR TREATMENT TO HER 😨😨😨!!!"

Sooo yeah, sorry for the little mental outburst in this, but is how I got into Yui/DL as of whole due to fanfics at that time (via Lover of the Sacrificial Bride, and Lilith Rebellion, which happens to be one of my favorite fanfics on Ao3, you should go and check it out) and over my current years up to now, after seeing and realizing the depressing path Yui was in due to the vampire's cruel treatment and obsessed hold on her, I've always known that deep down, she deserves to be happy and loved and thus cements my belief that Yui deserves better that what she's got and the boys worse, despite the fandom's claims that they went through a terrible childhood, to which I internally said "that doesn't excuse their bad behavior in to others and that they should come face to face with the consequences that they committed, whether they like to not."

And thus loving Yui and making Yui only content without any Diaboys in her life, is my way to expressed my love and care for her and not wanting to go through any more pain and hate than she has right now on her series and fandom. At the very least, that's how I see this for my gateway to Yui and DL.

Why did gawain not become king of orkney after Lot died?

That's a simple question with a very complicated answer.

To be really, really, really short and concise**, it boils down to two things:

One: Lot originally didn't die fighting Arthur.

In the earlies stories of Arthuriana, like Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae, Lot never warred with Arthur. The Sword in the Stone and the Mayday Massacre never happened in these older stories, so Lot has no reason to fight Arthur.

In fact, King Lot lives all the way to the end of Arthur's reign. Here's one example:

So really, Gawain doesn't succeed Lot because originally, Lot was alive the whole time and Gawain dies at Mordred's rebellion before he can succeed Lot, who dies shortly after.

Lot's early death is actually a relatively recent Plot Point that was introduced in Vulgate/Post-Vulgate.

Its a retcon that only exists as a plot device to give Gawain a motive to be evil for revenge against Pellinore and his family.

There's also a bit Stations of the Canon at play here - Traditionally, Gawain is supposed to be one of Arthur's Greatest Warriors, so inevitably, he must join the Round Table... even when later stories change things so it doesn't make sense anymore.

By Post-Vulgate, Arthur is not only responsible for the death of his father but also seemingly the death of his newborn baby brother, Mordred. Gawain, logically, has no reason to like Arthur, much less join him.

So basically, its later retcons that don't jive with Gawain's positioning as member of Arthur's household. With Lot's early death, Gawain shouldn't be running around adventuring and questing when his homeland needs him to run things.

The medieval writers took for granted that Gawain is able to be present in Arthur's court for particular reasons.

Which leads us to the second reason

Two: Because then Gawain would be unable to adventure anymore

Basically, Gawain is a traditional hero of Arthuriana, and him not being in Camelot anymore would drastically change the cast dynamics and the story. It's like if Superman and Batman retired from the Justice League and didn't show up anymore.

Gawain can't meet Lancelot and join the Grail Quest if he's stuck up in the North, doing boring Kingly duties.

Ultimately, the Medieval writers just simply didn't care about Gawain's realistic feudal duties and obligations. To them, Gawain and the other knights are adventurer-protagonists: they're heroes first, feudal lords second.

That's why you don't see Lancelot managing Joyous Gard - that's boring real life crap the Medieval audiences wouldn't be interested in seeing. So, Lancelot goes around joining tournaments and beating up knights in random directions instead.

Arthurian Literature is essentially Chivalric escapist fantasy. It's about quests and fights, action and excitement.

And YES, it doesn't make any sense that Gawain isn't called "King Gawain"
