I’m back with another Limited Life graph! This time I woke up in a cold sweat the other night with a desperate desire to see what a graph based on percentages is like, and here it is! Here, I used the data from the og graphs (here) but divided each data point by the maximum time someone had at that exact moment, in order to work out what everyone’s life left was as a percentage of the maximum.
More details, including a close up of the right hand side and the full data tables, below!
The green, yellow, and red lines going diagonally upwards represent where the 24, 16, and 8 hour marks are, but still calculated as the same percentages. So you can see that all the lines above the yellow diagonal are green names, and below the yellow diagonal and above the red are yellow names, and below the red are red names. The small blip of the 24 hour green line just highlights that time Scott and Bdubs boogeykilled quickly enough to have over 24 hours briefly.
There’s a lot of Scott at the top (the blue 100% line), but I do like that he dropped below the top a few times, so you can see various non-Skizz TIES members up there, as well as Pearl briefly at the end. I also like the way the lines curve down as a result of the percentage thing, it’s cool.
Below is a close up of Session 6-8, aka the tangle at the right hand side of the main graph:
Tumblr media
There’s honestly not much more for me to say, other than “behold: the tangle!”, but tbh I do like the mess of lines. I also like the way that, because as time goes on the person with the most time also loses time, so when Jimmy loses his final hours, it looks like a much smaller loss than Pearl and Etho later trading time with each other.
It’s also just cool to compare this with the original graph, where everything is squished in together, but here everything is spread out by design to take up the most space.
Next will be the screenshot of the data itself: this time the numbers aren’t coloured based on life colour, but instead at a simple scale of percentages. This helps highlight who is the person with the most time at a given moment, as well as the reds as they get close to death.

Ever seen a piece of art and gone "I need to write something about that?" Our Reverse Big Bang is all about that! Our artists have been busy, and now it's the writer's turn. The process of writer claims starts today! We will release an anonymous list of the art at 10am EST, and then 24 hours later you'll be able to put your name in for the ones you want to work on!
And what sort of art do we have? Well let me tell you, we have 25 traffic series art pieces, 30 dream smp, 7 empires, fully FIFTY hermitcraft art pieces, 5 lifesteal pieces, one each from MCSR, naked and afraid, scenario SMP, sleep deprived smp, smpearth, sos smp, and witchcraft smp, 2 from pirates smp, 9 from QSMP, and 3 from ygoscast.
There are fantasy aus, space aus, "this guy is an android", "these guys are a boy scout troop", pern au, parkour civilization, amongus, homestuck, sentient weapon au, selkie, my little pony, flower fairy, cowboy, late night tv, modern mafia, dark monarchy, reincarnation, mermaid, college au— and I assure you I have just scratched the surface of what is in this spreadsheet.
We have two needlecraft art pieces, 3 videos, 1 cosplay, 1 game, 2 music pieces, 1 animatic, 1 minecraft data pack, 1 minecraft map, 5 web weaves, and a LOT of digital and traditional art. People have made reference sheets. Comics. Headshots. There is SO MUCH. 145 art pieces from all over MCYT ready to go. The artists have been working for a month to make fantastic art pieces depicting their favourite AUs, ready to inspire a fic, and boy have they delivered, and now it's time to sign up and go ME, I want to write something with THAT art. All of MCYTblr welcome! If you are a writer who wants to join this challenge (or if you want to beta read one of the eventual fics), join the discord for more information!

MCYT on Ao3, September '24
It's that time again, STATS TIME. My life continues to be a little on fire, but at least I have spreadsheets. Let's look at them.
Some Notes:
A full 11 new fandoms this month, found due to work by @conarcoin. Everything italicized in the sheet is new. That brings it up to 65 fandoms I'd consider MCYT, and also Video Blogging!
Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (801 of 929 are in spanish, which is up from 799 last month), Tortillaland (117 of 123 are in spanish, the same as last month), and QSMP (1,139 of 10,653 are in spanish, from 1,105 last month)
QSMP also shows 55 works in French, the same as last month, and 680 works in Brazilian Portuguese, up from 630 las month.
In the small and micro fandoms, there are a significant number of fandoms with no update, and two deletions (Ivorycello's Prison Escapes and Area Unknown SMP). Far and away the standout fandom in this under-200-fics zone was Whitepine, which went up 20 fics since this time last month, which means that 90% of the current tag was posted in the last month. Another excellent month was had by SOS, at 15 new fics, or 16.13% of the current tag posted in the last month.
In the midsize fandoms, we had two fandoms break over the 200 fic mark, House Builder Gang with an impressive increase of 19 fics and Slimecicle Cinematic Universe going up by 7. The standout this month, dethroning MyStreet for the first time in several months, is Yandere High School, going up by 54. It's notable that both Evolution SMP and MyStreet are over 900 and posted over 25 fics this month, so their breakover to over a thousand may be soon.
In the larger fandoms, there were steady numbers quite close to last months! Lifesteal posted 141 to last month's 155, Empires beat last month's 160 with 192, QSMP beat last month's 318 with 328. 3rd Life was a little down from last month but this month's 456 (to last month's 493) was still quite impressive, and Hermitcraft's 593 (to last month's 665) was actually beat for the first time in several months by DSMP's 671 (to last month's 612).
Minecraft showed a significant increase this month, a whopping 1,561 to last month's 146, so I don't know if an event or the movie inspired that.
Video Blogging RPF showed an increase of 2,851, similar to last month's 2,910, but still pretty noticeably off last year's 3,420 at this time in 2023.

“Hey there! I heard other hermits were doing this, so why not join the fun?”
((DISCLAIMER: I am NOT the real Grian!! This is a gimmick blog!)
((Some things about my Grian: (I’ll make a lore doc if this gets popular enough)
He is an avian! A parrot one, to be exact. He wasn’t always though.
This version of Grian has gone through all the smps and such he’s been in in a streamline order of events, and in regards to the life series, he was pulled out of hermitcraft for them and then plopped right back. (Yes, this includes YHS and Evo!!)
Skyblings? Canon as shit
This bad boy can hold so much catholic guilt in him (Watchers)
NOT the same as @iampoultryman why would you think that???
RULES
Do not spam ask after ask, wait until your first one is answered to send another
Please don’t be lore heavy. This blog is here for fun and as much as I love angst I love sillies too
ooc posts will be in italics and tagged as #author speaks
I occasionally leave mod notes in the tags, look out for them
to avoid spamming the tags I will only use three tags:
#Grian answers - He answered an ask!
#Ask Grian - the tag for this blog
#rp blog - self explanatory
Hey, I've got friends on here too! They're all on this lovely spreadsheet (provided by the lovely ethomod):

How do you think Three would feel about season 10?
man so. okay the thing is that by season 10 things have probably butterfly effected so hard off of the beaten path that i have no idea if three would have much season 10 as they know it.
for example: season 10 starts with demise. would three... even have done demise? probably not in its early days of hermitcraft, right, like, that's a game grian would design but that i think three would be a little more hesitant to start up. a game about killing people in a fashion with Rules and Creativity is something three could thrive with, sure, and i like to imagine three takes inspiration from like, cleo's head games to come up with a version of demise it ends up enjoying, maybe? but like, even that element is hard to say WOULD happen.
if we go with "season 10's haunted water is an inherent element of the season", i could fully see three getting wrapped up in the fishing thing, because three is very stubborn and if it gives itself a mission of "fish up a mending book" it WILL do that. it would not try to start a cult about it or build a secret chamber but i think it would make like, a mending book spreadsheet or something equally deranged but in a less "big temple" way and in more of "three is the kind of person who made a family tree of sheep with jimmy" way.
i do think a difference between three and grian is that three just. doesn't strike me as particularly possessable. it wouldn't become obsessed with the ocean in the way grian did i think. i think it would like, fixate on the mending book, get it, go "that was stupid", and... i could SEE three liking fishing a lot actually, but less in a "getting possessed" way and more in a "it's a relatively low-simulation activity and also it gets to kill something" way, lol.
anyway i think a really interesting thing here is that three... would not do the permit office. like three Would Not Understand the bit of being purposefully unhelpful. even many years out from being three, the weapon, and instead being three, the person, i think three never QUITE stops finding it sort of inherently frustrating to intentionally do a task wrong. three tends more towards malicious compliance when it doesn't like doing something, but like, fully would love tedious paperwork. additionally, okay, maybe by season 10 three is a bit more likely to take charge fully, but i sort of suspect cub would end up the permit spearhead, not three. three would love the concept of the structure permits provide! three would not inherently like being the person in charge of the permits.
actually this gets into one of the more fundamental differences in personality between three and grian: grian likes being in charge of things but hates and avoids responsibility. three is a bit uncomfortable being in charge of things, but is perfectly comfortable with responsibility and will even take responsibility for things it technically doesn't have to. and at their CORE grian and three both have this supremely type-a thing going on but they express it in nearly opposite ways and i suspect this would be one of the main ways they'd clash, honestly.
but all of that is to say: three would not do the permit office bit, but WOULD like the permits. they provide a Structure to how shops work that three would appreciate and i think by season ten i could see three having gotten into the art of Ruthless Capitalism because it's sort of like killing people except instead you take their money. (three describes it this way back in season seven after etho takes it under his wing and etho wheezes and tells three to never let go of that. anyway.)
so that's just some of my thoughts on season ten with three this is a FUN QUESTION thank you!

Announcement regarding my Hermitcraft AU
hello fellas! I am happy to announce the start of the fic writing for my Hermitcraft AU, which is currently dubbed the merger au, but the name is subject to change
there is a public doc with the lore, species, and introductory stuff which can be found here
canon designs will be posted over the coming week(s), starting the day this is posted
i will try to be consistent with chapters and im planning for once every month or sooner if possible
this is also my first ever fic so it WILL have flaws
the fic will contain light shipping with NO nsfw content, possible gore, and horror imagery so if any of that makes you uncomfortable DO NOT INTERACT
all shipping is of the characters, not ccs
and for the people who are new to the au, here is the intro which is also avalible on the public spreadsheet:
-------
[The fic would follow the pov of Scar but may alternate sometimes. It is set in season 10 and Scar is still suffering the effects of Secret Life.]
Since Scar never died in Secret Life, he was pulled out of the loop manually by the secret keeper and was almost coaxed into becoming one, but he escaped in time before any major damage was done.
Except the secret keeper follows him.
When Scar fled the watchers' realm, he accidentally led the secret keeper to the Hermitcraft S10 world, giving them access to it and every other Hermitcraft world before it. In an attempt to communicate with Scar and bring him back to the watchers, the secret keeper uses this new “tool” to mess with reality and merge the different worlds. Some days, a random building from season 8 might show up in a crater, other days Larry may return because “the snails built him on the cart” (lie), and sometimes this even affects the hermits themselves, causing sudden wardrobe, personality, and motive changes.
Like how Joel randomly grew a Tanooki tail when joining the server.
Many people blamed the servers' already weird aspects in terms of species, but others suspected it was caused by the transition to becoming a “hermit.” Joel himself claimed it was caused by too much time around Etho and that it was because “Etho is so obsessed he used his mind to give me a tail so that we had something in common.” No one believed him.
And we can’t forget Etho somehow getting a glass monopoly, which was also pointed out by some when the permits were handed out, and is also not possible since every hermit only got 6 shopping permits. The keeper seemed to favor Etho in this way.
Maybe it was Magic Mountain’s looming presence and mystic powers, but Scar felt that many things were off this season. From the weird references to past seasons, Etho’s odd luck, Joel’s mutations or…..
…..was it the feeling of not being alone?
---
aaand thats all you get for now ;)
all content will be under the hermitcraft merger au tag and any ideas or fanart is welcome! <3

When We Get Home: Main Navigation
A skulk-based minecraft apocalypse au, following the Outlaws Scar and Grian along with various members of the Hermitcraft and Life series servers!
Hello and welcome to my minecraft apocalypse concept! This has been in the works for well over a month or two so far in my personal documents, and I'm happy to finally introduce the first few details. Our first one is a spreadsheet revealing quite a few of the major characters, their infection status, and more! Underneath I'll be explaining the setting and how I've changed up the mechanics of the zombie apocalypse trope just a bit to fit it to minecraft mechanics and my personal taste :].
Status Board:
Tumblr media
If there are many changes to this board, it will be updated here! This image may change over time as information is revealed and new chapters come out. For now,
What is the setting?
This is a modern setting, with a minecraft twist! Think of all our modern tech and cities, but with the edition of minecraft mobs and mechanics. Things like government sanctioned hostile mob grinders for citizens to safely gain exp, fully lighted road systems and cities to create safe zones for non pvp oriented citizens, etc. Pretty much everyday normal life but I still want minecraft mobs and items to exist.
What is the "Skulk Virus"?
After the entrance to an ancient ruin was discovered in the outskirts of the capital, a research team was launched to investigate what historians and archaeologists were simply nicknaming “The Deep Dark.”  Not long after the team's investigation and boarding off of the location, outbreaks of a deadly virus began to surface in less fortunate areas of the city, soon spreading terribly from hospitals, slaughterhouses, government sanctioned hostile mob farms, and more. The cause of the outbreak was presumed to be the hostile mob exposure that occurred overnight in the research area due to limited lighting budgets, as the black lichen seems to latch onto life force (mobs, nonhostile or otheriwse) to power a possible hivemind. Despite vaccination and quarantine efforts– the original discovery team going as far as to encase “ground zero”’s entrance in concrete –the spread of death did not cease. Once infected, the “skulk” pathogen quickly overwhelms the brain, using the remaining energy to roam and infect living hosts to spread itself.  The symptoms of contracting the skulk virus itself are most commonly visibly characterized by large, black abrasions and loss of vocal control, along with active decay of the body. It’s theorized that the skulk may distort and/or reconfigure humanoid vocal chords, which is what causes the chittering and racket-y calls usually produced by infected. The virus can also cause minor bioluminescence and hypermobility.  The infected are considered kill-on-sight. The virus controls the body wholly, and any person still conscious will be very unlikely to be autonomous despite vocal claims. It reacts with disturbingly quick instinct, and will rush toward any distinctive indicator of human life. An infected is most dangerous at its earliest stages, as their sense of sight, smell, and taste have not yet deteriorated and the virus has more ways to approximate the location of future host bodies.
Are there surviving settlements?
There were two main shifts at the start of the end of the world: the prolificacy of death, and the human sense of organization.
With the outbreak overwhelming major cities and spreading over oceans, Sanctuaries were made out of minor settlements to create safe areas. Usually dictated by some sort of warden, Sanctuaries are walled off communities that vow to be virus-free, safe places to harbor a semi-normal life. They have strict rules, even minor theft or endangerment is not tolerated, and all communities usually fight in groups of four or more. By law, anyone who endangers a Sanctuary is considered Outlawed. They are banned from all Sanctuaries, and their Outlawed status is documented on public forums on a digital record, along with their bounty. While death is not normally encouraged, Outlawed citizens are the exception. Most consider their removal a comfort, whether for revenge, or to deter others from defecting from the Sanctuary, but Outlaws are never kill-on-sight. For anyone hunting an Outlaw, the capture must be returned alive to the Sanctuary they were originally expelled from to face execution. This is to avoid fraud, as payment is usually given in a dedicated flow of supplies and armor to the hunter from any affiliated Sanctuary.
Outlaw hunters are incredibly rare, and incredibly dangerous to encounter. Many have vowed strongly to protect Sanctuaries, and view anyone outside them as a threat regardless of their legal status. If you are not Outlawed, you are likely to be killed by a hunter to prevent the future endangerment of a Sanctuary.
Fun Fact: Most of our main characters are Outlawed!
Like I said, this story will heavily follow the adventures of our two main Outlaws, Scar and Grian! It's going to deal with some pretty complicated relationships as well. I'll be taking my time to write these chapters thoughtfully and thoroughly.
We will have long term plotlines with a few of the characters on the board (and some that have been blocked out to avoid major spoilers), so stay tuned! I'd love to answer questions about the au if you guys have any :]. Feel free to check out Scar's Cassette Playlist up on my pinned! It's the music that was left downloaded on his phone when the apocalypse hit and most proper internet connections were severed.

Event Rules and FAQ!
I probably should've made this sooner, but here we go!
Important links:
Sign-up
Lyric Spreadsheet
Collection
The deadline is June 10 at 6pm CST
~*~
First off some general rules! I've included them in some other posts but it doesn't hurt to repeat/elaborate on them :D
To start, no NSFW works allowed! This includes explicit content, excessive violence/gore. Archive Warnings including 'Graphic Depictions of Violence', 'Rape/Non-Con', and 'Underage' are not allowed either. Shipping is allowed if tagged, and please properly tag any content warnings as well.
Other hermits/character are allowed, but please focus on Welsknight and/or Helsknight since this is an event for them!
Change of capitalization, only using part of the lyric, etc. are allowed as long as the lyric is recognizable
Works can be any length - as short or long as you want. I think the only exception would be for anyone posting art
Speaking of art, art (digital, traditional, etc.) is allowed for this event! Just please make sure to post it to AO3 so it can be added to the collection :D
Lyrics are not first come first serve and if there are multiple signups for the same lyric, it'll be allocated randomly once sign-ups end. I'll probably spin a wheel or something
You'll also have the option to (randomly) get lyrics other people don't want after signups close, on top of the lyric already assigned to you, if that's something you'd be interested in. You can opt-in for this in the sign-up sheet!
Sign ups may also open again at a later date if there are a bunch of lyrics left over and you want to take on another work! This is also an opportunity for anyone who hadn't joined yet to take part if they want to :D
And last but not least, have fun!! The deadline isn't fully decided yet but will probably be sometime in late May or early June
~*~
Moving on to the FAQ!
What kind of event is this?
This is a collaborative event where the goal is to make a collection of works corresponding to lyrics from Diabolical, with a focus on Welsknight and/or Helsknight
Also please tag event works with #diabolicalonao3
What is Diabolical?
Diabolical is a rap battle Welsknight has against his evil clone, Helsknight, in early season 7 Hermitcraft! It's also arguably the start of the hels dimension/helsmit stuff but don't quote me on that. If you want to take a listen, I have it linked below :)
Original
Elybeatmaker Remix
When does the collection open?
The collection will open as soon as sign-ups end and the work period starts.
Are there requirements/restrictions for art?
Nope! Just make sure that what you add to the collection is something you consider 'posting quality'.
Who runs this account?
Currently it's just me (@stressed-sock)! I also run @weekly-welsknight so there are my credentials /silly
~*~
If you have any other questions I haven't answered, feel free to send an ask!

I'll bite the bullet, what's Lifesteal and how on earth do I get into it?
I am so glad you asked, anon!
Lifesteal SMP, also known as the deadliest minecraft server! On the Lifesteal SMP, when you kill somebody you steal their heart! If you die, you lose a heart. You can craft hearts, but you can only use crafted hearts up to 10 hearts. Theres a limit of 20 hearts.
Lifesteal is on it's fourth season, though like Hermitcraft you don't need to be caught up on seasons. I recommend people start off with season 3. Here's all the season 3 videos.
This slideshow is from a few months ago, but it kinda gives a quick rundown of the members. You can skim it to look for someone who might interest you. My personal recommendations for starting out are
PrinceZam
Reddoons
Branzy
Ashswag
I linked the first episode of season 3 for each of them, but you can go to their channels and look around.
If you like watching streams, ItzSubz, Pangi, PrinceZam, Baconnwaffles0, and Mapicc/Roshambogames have been streaming the most season 4.
(Mapicc & Roshambo are diff people, but if one of them is streaming theres a 95% chance the other is there.)
If vods are your thing, here's a link the Lifesteal VOD Archive Spreadsheet and the Archive.org Collection (you'll find more in the spreadsheet)
Some other cool links
All Lifesteal S4 videos
All Lifesteal videos
I hope this helped you out anon! Have fun! ^_^ if you (or anyone else) have more questions lmk.

Hermitcraft 2024 auction spreadsheet
Hello dear Hermitblr my twin and I decided to make a spreadsheet containing the auction prices and their bid amounts over the last days.
The bids should be fairly accurate, we did however got some problems with the final amounts the items got sold for. Tiltify isn't showing all sold items for us and multiple items are showing up double. We did our best checking if different items were showing up and are fairly certain we got most of them right ( our total amount is however 10$ over the Tiltify amount so somewhere something went wrong)
Some fun facts we noticed while making the spreadsheet
The times a price ended with ...2,50$ is astounding ( check out Keralis items if you want a look at how often this happened)
A lot of the items got put up at 12pm our time which was also the time we updated the spreadsheet so some prices were really low and the next time we checked it was in the hundreds
I can't count the times we got shocked by the bid amounts ( Holy guacamole got mutterd more times than I am willing to admit)
This concludes our spreadsheet talk if and when we get the complete and final amount for the last items I will update the spreadsheet.
Also here's my twin @tripleasworld

hey not doubting you at all, but do you have any specific proof that points to matpat being a plagiarist?
augh i had a whole thing typed up and Tumblr ate it
short version: there's been a lot of allegations for years. the hermitcraft one seems pretty cut and dry to me. he has also just stolen theories from the source material itself - when he made a theory on a series i shan't name, his whole theory was something explicitly canon in the books, and he doesn't acknowledge that once.
now for my own personal evidence. i consider this less "proof" and more "occam's razor says plagiarism, and the other explanation is that he's incredibly dumb". under cut because it involves fma and chemistry neither of which i can shut up about
so, here's the video in question:
youtube
I'd use more screenshots to prove my point here, but apparently game theory can't afford captions, so I'll just explain the old fashioned way.
Matthew is trying to prove that the Elric's formula for a human (water 35 liters, carbon 20kg, etc) is incorrect (ie. does not have the right elements in the right proportions to make a human.)
to do this, he has to convert the several compounds (water, ammonia, lime, salt, and saltpeter) into elemental masses.
first, he divides each element by its molar mass. so for water, that's 35,000g/(18g/mol)=1,942mol. this is correct. don't get used to it.
so saying you have a "mole" of something is kind of like saying you have a "dozen" of it - you know if someone has 2 dozen eggs, then they have 2x12=24 eggs, because a dozen means 12. moles are like that, except instead of 12 it's 6.023x10²³. so the moles we just calculated is the number of molecules of water that are in 35L - 1,942mol converts to ~1.17x10²⁷ molecules.
this next bit is where matthew goofs it. he says that to get from the number of water molecules to the number of oxygen atoms, you multiply the number of molecules by the percent of the weight of the water that is oxygen, so about 89%. i hope you can see why this is incorrect. (if you can't: each water molecule has one oxygen atom in it, so the number of oxygen atoms in the water is the same as the number of molecules of water, not 89% of it.) he then uses these incorrect figures to calculate the elemental masses. these are his final masses (which, for some reason, he doesn't show clearly):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but after a few jokes, he shows this table comparing the fma numbers to reality:
Tumblr media
ignoring that the top ones are in g and the bottom in kg, you can see that he only gets the same numbers if he didn't have to do any conversion. somehow, hydrogen goes from just under 700g to 4.5kg. he doesn't explain why the numbers changed or where the new ones came from.
so, i did the maths myself (here's the full spreadsheet if you want to check my work):
Tumblr media
(you'll note my "matpat mass" doesn't match either set. i was doing what he said he did in the video. i have no idea what else he did to get some of his numbers. i think the hydrogen one might be because he added the correct mass from ammonia to his incorrect water mass? the oxygen i have no idea because. matthew how is there less than 3kg of oxygen in 35kg of water, even ignoring the other oxygen containing compounds)
now some of my numbers are a bit off because of rounding errors, but you'll see that my numbers agree pretty well with the wikipedia-looking chart. this is because i, unlike matpat, understand how to do chemistry calculations that they teach to babies (fourteen year olds). but the change in Matthew's numbers from two points thirty seconds apart in the video raises the question of where the hell he got them from. way i see it, there are two explanations:
1. matthew did realise he'd explained everything wrong and his maths was off, but decided to publish the video without correcting his explanation or his first set of numbers anywhere;
2. matthew stole these numbers from somewhere else, where they'd been calculated by someone who understands chemistry 101, and couldn't even understand the chemistry well enough to replicate their results.
why bother saying all of this if it proves nothing? i need you to understand that i was in chemistry for babies when this video came out, and deep in the weeds of my fma hyperfix and my chem hyperfix. this has bothered me for a full third of my life. this isn't an explanation it's an exorcism

Mostly drama with fluff, angst, romance, and comedy mixed in.
- The vibe here is "children on the playground who never had to 'grow up and get jobs,' so they continue this playful behavior into adulthood and it's important in their culture.'
- The main longfic is Dog's Life, which is a dramedy- defined by "telling serious stories ... [about] real life situations, grounded characters, and believable situations [plus] jokes and situations intended to make you laugh." (Cambridge Dictionary & Wikipedia)
- But tbh, the whole series is one big dramedy. Buckle up!
Characters
Heavy focus on Life Series SMP characters- specifically, the Last Life SMP cast. I've written each member several times. Lots to read!
-> Also, their camera accounts, who are treated like people (All the accounts I could confirm + some OCs).
-> Did you know PiglinMyNose is actually Joel's cam account? Now you do!
-> Minor appearances from other SMPs (such as Hermitcraft and Empires), some lesser-known characters (like NPC_Grian), and some OCs to flesh out the world.
Ships
The vibe here is "A lot of relationships are roleplay, but some affect characters deeply. Everyone is friends and co-workers despite their drama." People date and separate throughout the series. We have:
- Post-3rd Life Scott and Jimmy dating in the hub (until Last Life).
- Post-Last Life Martyn and Mumbo married for a while (until Mumbo's Season 9 hiatus).
- Post-Double Life Grian and BigB dating in the hub (Relationship under light strain during Dog's Life).
- Drama due to Grian cheating chronically on the wife he was betrothed / arranged married to (i.e. the character Jimmy used for Grian's wife in his Superflat video, 14:19)
- Grian/Bdubs as the Jungle Duo while on the Dog's Life server, flirting and flouncing while roleplaying as archaeologists. Of course he's cheating on BigB too; what do you take me for?
-> Zombiewoodn't - Some Pixels Imperfect works overlap my series of one-sided Martyn/Cleo content.
- Etho teased for being "obsessed with Joel." Is he? You decide!
- Etho acting clingy towards SnifferMyFeet, who's "just like Joel, but without having to share him."
-> Sniff hates being perceived as "Joel or Grian 2.0," but he also has a lot of their memories, so it's confusing to him. He's my favorite and for this, I will not apologize.
And more... (Also, I have notes about common fandom ships that are platonic in this AU; click the Read More.)
Setting
Our story is set supposedly 11,000 years into the Between dimension's existence. The land's been heavily griefed and both the Cluckshroom Dragon and Allay Dragon have been slain, leaving their mob and hybrid offspring on the verge of extinction.
Some works explore Between at large, but most take place in New Star Station, which is hidden underground.
- Herobrine's Guide to the Between Dimension (T) describes the world and its biomes before they were griefed.
- One and a Half Birds (T) is a 15-chapter story (113,700 words) that takes place entirely in New Star Station, showcasing the living situation there (and hub life in general).
- "The Man He Sets His Spawn With" (T - 11,800 words) occurs late in the timeline and contains minor series spoilers, but it's a great look at the social culture. Everyone takes their skins off so they (in their glowing soul forms) can rinse the Secret Life mod from their code. Grian sprays his friends down with a power washer; it's great :)
-> Heads up for Joel and Etho having a huge fight about trust violations.
Is It For Me?
- This AU moves between on-server play and server hub life. If you like hybrid biology and game mechanics, you might like this AU. Characters explode into pixels when they die; no blood or gore.
- This series is Life Series-focused, but there are Hermitcraft elements (Ex: Mumbo eating Grian's soul)
- Lots of characters are recovering from drama in their pasts, such as the EVO crew. In this AU, EVO was a non-anarchy hub with super strict rules that still haunt the characters after they left.
- Characters parallel their creators in many ways. Ex:
-> Mumbo is a wandering trader who loves his llamas, paralleling IRL Mumbo's love for travel and cars.
-> Tango is married to a character based on Mrs. T's character and she puts silly hats on him like she does when he streams.
-> IRL Netty is on break from YouTube to raise her kids. In-universe Martyn doesn't know that and is sad his Netty's not around.
- Lots of drama in this series, but at the end of the day, they're friends and co-workers and they care about each other <3
Major Themes
Complicated relationships, community, trust, heartbreak, secrets, consent, recovery, growth, power, choice, friendship, love, acceptance, found family, and trying to do the right thing.
Plot Highlights
One for each character, just for kicks.
- Allay hybrids Scott and Scar pushing through life in the wake of their mother's death. Their species is prone to vex data corruption, slowly going extinct, and any death in the Between dimension will be their last.
- Imp and Skizz leaving their life of anarchy behind, but still haunted by their past... I think. One of them can't seem to remember.....
- BigB clinging to the illager culture that was stripped from him after he gained Bad Omen and went into hiding.
- Scott, Scar, and Tango running for mayor, each with drastically different visions for New Star Station's future.
- NettyPlays logged out 288 in-universe years ago and never came back. Martyn is unraveling, longing for her return and wondering if he should date again.
- Jimmy accidentally becomes captain of a pillager mob patrol. What do you mean they'll shoot him dead if he puts the banner down?
- Joel and Lizzie plan a ceremony to renew their wedding vows... and find a body in the decorations closet.
- The Grian born in Pix Impf AU and the Grian born in Neighborhood Watch AU switched places after EVO. They're both fumbling, trying to figure out each other's worlds.
- Cleo searches for their beloved cluckshroom eggshell, which was stolen after they placed it in New Star's museum.
- Ren goes on a date with a dragon. Also his hands get dissolved in a corrupted river after PiglinMyNose left him for dead, but it's fine.
- Etho finally cracks and goes shopping for new clothes. Bdubs introduces him to the latest fashions.
- Mumbo comes out of smuggler retirement to hunt down more hybrid eggs. Also, he falls in love with water skis.
- Pearl discovers a special item, once believed erased from the world, that could change all of Between.
- Newly spawned SnifferMyFeet searches for his own identity, haunted by Joel and Grian's memories that feel like his.
Ongoing?
Drafts for this AU began summer 2022, with the first work posted August 2023.
This series is ongoing, with over 1 million words to read at the time of posting this, and many more works on the way.
Warnings, notes, and explanations below so readers can learn more about this AU. Don't like? Don't read.
👀 Take a Peek
New here? You might like to start with these:
"Dogwarts Lullaby" (G - 2800 words) - Short 3rd Life character study for Martyn and Ren, with Martyn wandering the map while Ren wonders if he ditched him.
"Grian's Room" (G - 2900 words) - Short 3rd Life piece where Scar realizes he can't feel the softness of Grian's blankets. Grian, shocked that Scar came into his room, tries to shoo him out.
"Yes, And?" (G, 5600 words) - Early in Limited Life, Etho isn't sure how he feels about being assigned dad by the narrative. He visits Cleo late at night to share his concerns. A fan-favorite (and one of mine as well).
"Only Borrowed" (T - 5700 words) - A Last Life piece about Joel barging into the Scottage. After Pearl kills him, she's a bit shaken up, so Scott helps her take off her skin so he can wash it while she rests. This was the first piece to depict the "skins are like onesies" lore and I think it does it well.
- "You Can Sleep While I Drive" (T - 13,500 words) - Ficlets for each Double Life pair with one soulmate watching the other sleep. Good way to glimpse my take on many characters in a single 'fic.
- "Here's to the Health of Married Men" (T - 42k words) - Ballroom 'fic about the Double Life pairs at a post-game party. Scar feels numb and confused about his relationship with Grian. Ren discovers Grian is BigB's secret admirer and challenges him to death, which will have severe consequences in the server hub. Fun read, longer than my one-shots, but one of my shorter multi-chapters.

🌄 First Written - Dog's Life & Recap Doc
Longfic that reveals pieces of the worldbuilding slowly over time. The story opens with Session 1 of a new Life Series game with two gimmicks: you gain the traits of the most recent mob you killed, and every player is assigned a quarry to hunt, whom they can steal lives from to boost their own count.
This work explores both the game and life in the server hub (New Star Station between sessions, with underground New Star one of the last non-anarchy hubs in a griefed, anarchy-ridden world. Tensions rise as the game leaves its mark even on server hub life.
- T-rated, 536k words and counting at time of posting this.
- Watch everything come together in this piece (as opposed to snippets of worldbuilding across other works).
- Shifting POVs, with each Life SMP player in the story getting their turn. Enjoy many characters and the individual ways they perceive the drama around them.
- I consider this the best starting point for the AU since you get to see the worldbuilding develop as I myself discover it, but due to length and drama, it may not be for everyone.
-> If you're okay with spoilers, you may like the recap doc, which summarizes each chapter in detail (with links to each chapter in case you only want to read a few that catch your eye). Each chapter is separated by a spoiler guard page.
📅 Chronological Start - Criminal Experience
A story about Mumbo, Impulse, Skizz, and BigB before they went into hiding underground. Specifically, Mumbo is a wandering trader assigned to carry allay spawn eggs to a creeper city, with Impulse escorting him through a rugged landscape. They cross paths with BigB: an illusioner on patrol.
- Depicts the world in an early state of anarchy, before the landscape was further destroyed
- Tosses you in with the POV of a character who is factual and straightforward about his experiences.
- I'm planning to write one-shots about characters living with their dragon moms when they were new to the world, but Crim is probably the better start to the chronology.
🗺️ Worldbuilding - Herobrine's Guide to the Between Dimension
A comprehensive overview of the worldbuilding, covering all the meta I could think of in great detail. Topics include hybrid biology, hybrid behavior, Between's unique biomes, and a bestiary ft. mob biology and behavior.
- This piece was written mainly for me to keep my facts straight and direct people to if they have questions. It's likely overwhelming to read with no context, but it might be fun. Lots of digital art to look at.
- Contains meta notes behind spoiler dropdowns. This is to show examples of that worldbuilding in story context.
📋 AU Notes & Warnings
All characters are hybrids born of dragons. Many suckled when they were newborns while some were fed mouth to mouth. Hybrids perceive dragons as mother figures.
Some dragons carry their babies in their mouths. There's one scene where the Slime Dragon tosses PiglinMyNose into the air and "eats him," though he later oozes back out of her slime. He's fine.
- Canon-typical violence and canon-typical character death (Yes weapons, yes whacking people, yes deaths and respawn, no blood or gore)
- Body Horror (A little somethin' for the ladies)
-> Skins can be removed like clothes.
-> People glitch, exploding into pixels when they die.
-> When dragons die, the person who killed them gains a star on their hand, which passes to whoever kills them afterwards. The Allay Dragon's star passes through the hands of some major characters. It allows people to manipulate their surroundings and even shapeshift into a small dragon.
-> Anivores (soul-eating species) can use their fangs to pull souls from bodies [while in the Between dimension]. Generally, this is played as a one-hit KO, especially from phantoms who swoop from above, but there are occasional pieces with slower logouts.
-> These souls are consumed, which forces a player out of Between and onto their AFK server. Particles leave the anivore's body through the skin. When the refresh cycle is complete, the player can exit their server and their body will be fresh, meaning dirt, scratches, and chipped nails are gone.
-> Zombies (Cleo), phantoms (Bdubs, Martyn), and vex (Scar, Cub) are anivores. This lore reflects Scar and Cub's early lore that their characters eat people, plus Mumbo (an omnivore) eating Grian's soul in Hermitcraft Season 8.
-> In One and a Half Birds, Mumbo asks his husband Martyn to chew on his soul, which he finds sensual, as he's already become contaminated and "it can't get much worse" :') ...
-> I personally don't find it gruesome in the main series, but I'm working on a piece called "Moonwild," which is a zero-dialogue series of ficlets about hybrids with their mob instincts at max. This one focuses more on animal-like hunting and soul-eating.
- Pixel bodies (Players lack collision and phase through each other, so it's hard to hug or pick people up. No human reproductive parts. Breasts are understood only vaguely and mostly in the context of dragons)
-> Golden carrots increase collision with other players. However, eating too many will put you into love mode (See below)
-> Their digital bodies differ from human bodies. The only characters who've heard of sex (or kissing) are those who've heard about it from Grian, who switched universes.
-> Grian's arc revolves around him feeling upset that he'll never experience sex since he switched universes, so he sometimes discusses such things or asks to kiss people (who respond with confusion).
-> Shout-out to the mini arc where Scar misinterprets Grian's off-screen explanation of sex as "lovers punching each other in private." Comedy of errors...
- Love mode could be seen as dubcon (Players having love hearts acting like mobs, who try to reach other mobs with love hearts and produce baby mobs)
-> I emphasize consent in my work, but the idea of players desiring babies when their love hearts are up may be uncomfortable to some readers
-> "The Leftovers" (T - 10k words) depicts Cleo eating carrots so she can carry narcoleptic Martyn to bed after the phantom hybrid fell asleep at Box. Cleo is in control, but Martyn is embarrassed to look at her even though he isn't in love mode.
-> Dog's Life Chapter 30 depicts a love mode scene with Bdubs explaining to Grian that he may need to be pinned down so he won't run off and spawn babies with a random stranger. Grian scoffs at this, believing he'll have full control, and is embarrassed when he doesn't.
-> All my love mode works are tagged #Golden Carrots | Love Mode. Browse or avoid it as you wish.
-> If you'd like to post your own love mode work for this AU on AO3, I suggest this exact tag so people can find it if they click this tag on one of my works!
- Hybrids can't produce hybrids, but they can poof sparks into existence through love mode, provided there's an available bed. Sparks grant sentience to mobs or blocks. Grumbot is a sparked build and Hermes is a sparked armor stand.
-> Love mode requires golden carrots, which are extinct in Between. They're only available on servers.
Non-human characters with mob-inspired biology and behavior. For this AU, this means YES:
-> Body parts like wings, fangs, claws, gills, antennae, and tails.
-> Some creatures (like allay) are fey and adhere to specific social rules, or have certain abilities (such as allay having the ability to gather memories).
-> Preening, biting people, hunting prey, bats hanging upside-down, body language such as beating wings, rolling around on the ground while scratching and nipping, and enjoying things that humans are not inclined to, such as Cleo liking to bury herself in dirt.
-> All hybrids hatch from eggs. Baby mobs poof into existence, as do sparks (See below). No pregnancy or graphic births.
-> You could pick SnifferMyFeet up by his scruff; he hasn't grown into his skin yet and has newbie flab back there.
-> Mild interspecies bickering or mob hybrid racism, but there are no humans in this world. Everyone is a hybrid, so interspecies conflicts come from things like Nether species having a unique style of rest that isn't technically sleep, which really bothers local phantom hybrids who want them to go to bed.
-> Mob behavior increases when the moon is full and decreases when it's new. Ex: a blaze hybrid is more likely to attack using fireballs than a sword when the moon is full, and fox hybrids may prefer to dig a lot or hide in "dens" to soothe their skittishness.
This AU does NOT have: Heats/ruts, hybrid litter births, hybrid litter lactation, or mobs as romantic partners. To clarify: Dragons can have litters, but hybrids are infertile. In fact, hybrids have 0 teats and no reproductive anatomy, so all birth and lactation is dragon-exclusive. Also: Love mode (The love hearts that show up when mobs are bred) does exist for hybrids, and is prompted by golden carrots. Some people may see this as similar to heats/ruts, but it's not technically animal behavior, so it's discussed more below. Also: It's not unheard of for mobs to hang out with you, such as villager mobs settling in your village, or illager mobs joining a patrol of hybrids. They're treated as companions and/or their own species. -> On rare occasion, a mob might think your wings, colors, or fighting skills are cool and hit on you (like how birds sometimes express courtship behavior towards humans IRL, especially pet birds who get pet and fed by a human), but hybrids are encouraged to shut such behavior down. -> This doesn't really come up (atm it's only been mentioned in Herobrine's Guide as a warning to watch for such behavior), but worth mentioning in case that's someone's deal-breaker.
- Allogrooming (Ex: licking or nibbling to groom someone).
-> Can be platonic, romantic, or parental. Usually done with fur or feathers, but other things like hair work too.
- Allofeeding (Ex: Dragon moms may feed their young mouth to mouth. Also, hybrids can do this too).
-> Not normally done with physical food; usually reserved for souls, which are carried in a throat pouch and difficult to carry with hands
-> Can be platonic, romantic, or parental
-> Phantom hybrid Bdubs used to feed Martyn souls before his adult fangs came in
-> Zombie hybrid Cleo hunts souls and offers them to phantom hybrid Martyn in exchange for favors (Namely, sneaking out with her so they can bury themselves in dirt and pretend to be dead)
-> In Dog's Life, parrot hybrid Grian puts a chunk of bread between his teeth and offers it to someone he's flirting with
- Ableism plots (Ex: Scar is very frustrated that the practice of unthreading is banned in New Star, because unthreading guarantees people gain a chronic glitch)
-> Scar himself is unthreaded, as is SnifferMyFeet. They both see unthreading as the best thing that happened to them because this state allows them to move in and out of servers freely, which most hybrids can't do. Scar is frustrated that society tends to view unthreading as harmful... people tend to focus more on the glitch and less on the ability to exit servers without your outside player.
-> Scar and Sniff ARE disabled; they both experience sensations like pain (and phantom pain) due to their chronic glitches. The glitches move around their body, affecting different areas throughout the day. Scar usually has a cane, but sometimes uses his wheelchair. Sniff spends early Dog's Life without a mobility aid since he's unthreaded in Chapter 7, but when Scar introduces him to aids later, he's excited to learn about them and daydreams what he wants his to be.
-> Since unthreading is banned in New Star, it's not always accessible to mobility aids. Scar was an emergency rescue unthread and Sniff was done under the radar and against the rules. Scar is very annoyed about this and increasing mobility is one of the main things he wants to do if he can win the mayor election in Dog's Life.
-> Grian is studying for his unthreading license throughout the series (and is due to receive it after Dog's Life). Scar is very anxious that Grian will unthread his wife (who can't leave their AFK server) and he's worried that Grian will be ableist towards her.
-> There are some subtle sideplots as well, such as Impulse being unable to hunt because he lost his ability to aggro on people when he had life-saving surgery. He drinks from a thermos, but usually needs to be fed mouth to mouth. Impulse was born a phantom hybrid, but feels disconnected from that community because he can't hunt.
-> The other phantom hybrids pity him (despite, y'know... life-saving surgery) and sometimes comment on "his terrible loss" or how he'd "definitely be flock captain if he hadn't lost his aggro" without realizing the ableist implications of what they're saying.
-> Ableism is a topic in this series and I do my best to handle it with care. Are you suggesting my society of underground people who cut themselves off from the world may have skewed, flawed views? le gasp.
- Some Hermitshipping/Trafficshipping (Usually this means characters in a relationship during some parts of the timeline, but separating later).
-> For example, Mumbo and Martyn still being married after Last Life until Mumbo left the hub during his Hermitcraft Season 9 hiatus. One and a Half Birds portrays them flirty during that point in the timeline, but they separate down the road when the initial playful buzz fades.
-> Many characters consider a relationship that starts while on a server to be roleplay. Some live with other partners when at home. The general vibe is that a "real relationship" should have serious talks in Between, reducing the possibility of outside player influence distorting feelings.
-> Tango in "Shack Up Like It's Summer 2022," is a good example: he playfully fawns over Jimmy in that story, but acknowledges his wedding ring. Tango finds value in his relationship with Jimmy even though he considers it roleplay. At home, he's married to Cocoa, who's based on the MC character owned by Mrs. T (Tango's wife).
- Relationship negotiation and status quo changes (This series is a dramedy; relationships take many twists and turns).
-> Enjoy fluff and shippy moments while they're there, but prepare your heart for a bumpy ride. At the end of the day, everyone is still friends.
- Some non-consensual implications (Jimmy's canary biology was forcibly modded on during his time in the EVO hub).
-> Many people view anarchy players as lawless, wild, and aggressive. They fear anarchy powers will forcibly mod them for a laugh, which is scary to them.
-> Joel (an ex-anarchy player) disagrees with this view, as he saw that life as one of creativity, self-exploration, and freedom. He doesn't think it's likely anarchy players carry mods with them or give them to random people, since mods take a long time to make and are usually custom; he's not afraid of this happening to him. However, he doesn't like discussing his positive anarchy experiences because he feels it's insensitive to his friends.
- Mind and memory manipulation (Ex: People changing behavior based on their life color during Life games, with yellows being more defensive and reds more aggressive).
-> SnifferMyFeet spawned in with Joel and Grian's Double Life memories. He's convinced he's married to Etho and Scar, and lashes out when told he isn't. His plot follows him discovering his own identity (and trying to separate himself from Grian and Joel). Etho and Scar are confused by Sniff dropping into their lives and try to figure that out as best they can.
-> At one point, a character is attacked and loses some memories. Another character loses some memories after experiencing a flashbang at close range, damaging the cameras in their eyes.
-> There's a scene where Scar, in the heat of the moment, plants one of his own memories in SnifferMyFeet to convince him that Sniff's Grian memories are implanted and aren't real. Sniff gets upset.
-> And more... Keep your eyes out!
I thiiiink these are all the topics worth warning for. If you think of anything else, send me an Ask and I'll add it :)
This AU plays these popular ships as platonic. Here's what to expect:
Grian & Scar: My first encounter with them as a duo was 3rd Life and "servant swearing loyalty and committing" has long been one of my all-time favorite platonic tropes. So... here we are!
-> Grian's arc focuses on him being cupioromantic and panicking due to his struggles with attraction, especially after his discovery that this world has no sex (Grian swapped places with the Grian native to this AU; this Grian came from the NW AU).
-> Grian tends to be anxious, push people away, and chase what he thinks he wants. One day boy's gonna get septuple dumped :')
-> Grian was betrothed to Scar [Oscar Goodchild] in the NW universe. Lots of messy feelings to unpack and he's not sure he's ready for that can of worms.
-> Grian is paranoid that since Scar "conveniently forgets things" and regularly ignores him, Scar won't care about his boundaries
-> Scar is dealing with a lot of hurt from Double Life, like Grian's comments of "Why does everyone else get a real partner except me?"
-> Scar is recipromantic. He clocked Grian as not being interested in him, so doesn't consider him a suitor. Grian gives mixed signals sometimes, which is confusing to Scar.
-> This AU plays Grian with emphasis on being pushy, disrespectful, or mean, such as a scene where he asks Scar to be his partner, then lashes out when Scar says no. They're coworkers and friends, but romance isn't their natural inclination in this AU.
Grian & Mumbo - My vision is that they're committed to the bit above all. They'd never date because it would be too on the nose... A bit must be silly and a little unpredictable. Yes, they'll claim Grumbot as their son because it's hilarious. Yes, they go home to separate living spaces and no, they don't cuddle much because that's not funny. Do you see my vision?
-> The vibe here is that they're close friends who are comfortable joking around. They both like that and have no desire to change.
-> One and a Half Birds examines their relationship as Grian struggles with secrets from his past, Mumbo prepares to eat his soul, and Grian is willing to do anything for his best friend.
-> I like this piece because it shows Grian's anxiety around the soul-eating, even pushing Mumbo away when he comes on too strong. Even Mumbo can make him fret his boundaries will be forgotten; nonetheless, he allows him to continue.
-> I feel like Pixels Imperfect Grian envisions himself with Mumbo more easily than Scar, but he's also more likely to ask Scar out since he assumes Mumbo isn't interested in being touchy-feely.
-> Ex: It was quite a shock to Grian when he found out Mumbo and Martyn brought their married life roleplay from Last Life into Between, and until it was confirmed, Grian denied it at all turns (Outright ignoring Martyn's claims that Mumbo was his husband & even refusing to believe they were married despite seeing them share a bed).
Character Grian has a pretty black and white view of things. Honestly, I think that defines him completely and I'm surprised I didn't think of it sooner.
Etho & Bdubs: I watched Last Life with no context for their Mindcrack or Hermitcraft pasts. Team BEST always gave me a college roommates vibe (especially after Bdubs divided the castle), and that's always stuck with me. They're long-time friends and trust each other deeply, but don't flirt (apart from the occasional nudge-nudge in jest).
-> Fun fact, that vibe is also why I play Bdubs as an aggressive phantom hybrid who pushes people around and Etho as a more passive, skittish fox... Bdubs was certainly the one to put his foot down about staying in the snow fort.
-> Bdubs visits Etho most nights to log him out [i.e. eat his soul]. It's "their thing," but Etho struggles with feelings that Bdubs only visits to make a meal of him.
-> Sometimes Bdubs feels unappreciated and unwanted. Etho has a mini-arc of changing his view of the logout dynamic, exploring why it's important to Bdubs.
-> Bonus: Etho is only attracted to warm souls, but he doesn't know that :') It's a nod to the Etho in NW AU, where him coming to grips with that attraction is a much bigger part of his arc. The two worlds exist in parallel, so he's the same here.
Etho & Cleo: I write a lot of Clocker family in various AUs. In Pixels Imperfect, the Clocker dynamic is roleplay. No strong romantic connection, though they're sometimes playful (when they're not self-conscious). The dynamic still tails them and they fall into the roles sometimes because they enjoy it.
-> My vision is that Etho is nervous around Cleo. After Limited Life, he tries to convince himself he likes her, again playing into that idea that he doesn't know he's attracted to warm souls (Cleo's is chilly).
-> The vibe here is family dinners and friendly chat about deep topics, like identity and boundaries, while maintaining that platonic vibe. No cuddle sessions or sleepovers (that I know of, anyway).
-> They'd probably date a little if one asked the other out, but neither is dying to make a move. They like their friendship as is.
-> Of my Clocker AUs, Pixels Imperfect is notable for Cleo and Etho coming together after a divorce bit was established. In other AUs, their past romance makes things extra complicated.
Martyn & Ren: I always read them platonic, especially in 3rd Life with Martyn wandering around and Ren saying things like "Martyn has to feed his kids," so that's what this AU leans into.
- Friends who are on and off between platonic and queerplatonic. They admire each other aesthetically. Ren especially likes that Martyn is an undead monster who could eat him (and plays along with his dramatic bits) and Martyn thinks Ren is cool and creative and fun.
-> Ren is dating a dragon btw. Specifically, Martyn's mom because I thought the bit in Double Life Ep 2 where he asked her out was very funny sdflk;
-> Martyn is a hot soul who only likes cuddling cool and chilly souls. He admires Ren, but prefers high-fives since Ren is also a hot soul (and they'd both overheat).
-> "Business partners" is probably the best way to describe their vibe in this AU. In this canon, they were queerplatonic in 3rd Life and Martyn gets huffy if anyone acts like that's unimportant.
You're welcome to read your favorite ship as romantic! Just don't get your romantic expectations too high :)

Over 150 signups, so it's time for me to break out my stats spreadsheet again.
I made it slightly less ugly with conditional formatting, just because I am that way.
Tumblr media
Let's do this!
There have been a total of 168 signups as I write this post, since the 18th. The signup form is open for 13 more days!
The most offered gift type remains Writing, with 104 offers, and it's also still the most requested gift type with 161 requests (or only 7 people who've signed up have not opted into fic!)
The most requested server is Hermitcraft, with 105 requests or 63% of all signups, and also the most offered server, with 113 signups, which is 67% of all signups.
46% of all offers have opted into an Other server, and 42% of all requests.
The least-requested server of the main servers is Lifesteal, with 18 requests or only 11% of all signups, but they rise to 18% of all offers, with 30 offers.
There are some interesting stats when you look at the difference between offers and requests, where for example only 86% of people who offered DSMP also requested it. The lowest ratio there is Lifesteal, with only 60% of people who offered Lifesteal also requesting it (30 offers, 18 requests), and the highest is QSMP, at 98% follow through (59 offers, 58 requests).
There wasn't a lot of change in the most-offered/most-requested characters from last time, but as before, there's some interesting things when a most-offered character is not a fandom's most requested. 83% of all DSMP fans offered Wilbur and/or Technoblade, but the most requested character was just Technoblade, at 68% of all requests. Mumbo Jumbo was the most offered Hermitcraft guy (85% of offers), but GoodTimesWithScar was the most requested (69% of requests). Grian was the most offered character for life series (83% of offers,) but tied with GoodTimesWithScar for most requested (both at 68%). Smallishbeans was most offered (82%) and most requested (71%) for Empires, and for Lifesteal ClownPierce was most offered (80%) and Itsubz_ was most requested (72%). For Origins Wilbur was most offered, (91%), but Philza was most requested Origins (84%), most offered QSMP (83%), and most requested QSMP (74%).
Across all servers, Gen remains the most common way to request and offer your block people, with all of these stats being taken off of the gen requests/offers. I have not run all the numbers because that's a lot of nubmers, but just eyeballing it, I'd guess that the fandom most open to NSFW is Hermitcraft/Life Series, with the least NSFW-interested fandom is a tie between origins (very very low NSFW numbers across many characters) and lifesteal (a few characters with decent percentages of NSFW requests, but only a very few characters). With DSMP and QSMP you can see that NSFW numbers are quite low for most characters, and then you get spikes with a few where the characters are in sort of approved relationships. You can also see the ship numbers spike when a character is in a canon relationship, like for example with QSMP Cellbit being at 74% ship (he is canonically married) versus QSMP Niki Nihachu being only 42% ship (she has only flirted)
There have been a total of 12,612 offers and 7,937 requests.
Offers are 62% Gen, 32% Ship, and 6% NSFW, and Requests are 60% Gen, 32% Ship, and 8% NSFW. Notably this means the proprotion of Gen continues to increase, up from 59% Gen the first time I ran these stats.

MCYT on Ao3 - June '24
It's that time again, looking at the stats on Ao3! My life is a little on fire but at least I still have SPREADSHEETS.
Some Notes:
No new fandoms this month that I found! If you know of any, let me know. We are sitting at 54 fandoms I'd consider MCYT, and also Video Blogging!
Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (797 of 906 are in spanish, from 779 last month), Tortillaland (113 of 119 are in spanish, same as last month), and QSMP (1031 of 9,723 are in spanish, from 992 last month.)
I'm probably going to stop checking all the fics in the QSMP tag, but for a final hurrah, I went through all the languages! 1 work in Bahasa Malaysia, 1 fic in Dansk (Danish), 2 fics in Deutsch (German), 1 work in Esperanto, 1 work in Filipino, 51 works in French (up from 48 last month), 1 in Lingua latina (Latin!), 2 fics in Polski (Polish), 569 in Brazilian Portuguese (from 519 last month), 5 in European Portuguese, 9 fics in Русский (Russian), 1 fic in Suomi (Finnish), 1 fic in Svenska (Swedish), 1 fic in Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese), 3 fics in Türkçe (Turkish), 1 fic in Українська (Ukrainian), 5 fics in 中文-普通话 國語 (Mandarin Chinese, I believe), up from 4 last month.
In the small and micro fandoms, we saw a general output of less than last month, but Kaboodle was still our standout at 14 fics! This is down from SOS's standout of 19 fics last month (they posted 11 this month).
In the mid-size fandoms, MyStree and Evolution SMP continued to jockey for the lead, but in contrast to last month, Evolution took it this month, with 36 fics.
In the large fandoms, we were kind of all over the map. Hermitcraft is back to posting more than the previous month (700 to 648, as their season is still going strong), and traffic's 494 was higher than last month's 471, but QSMP's 396 was down from last month's 421, potentially impacted by their season ending. Empires posted almost exactly the same as last month (145 to last month's 144), Dream SMP's 352 was up from last month's 224, and Lifesteal's 92 was down from last month's 107.
Minecraft FINALLY pulled itself out of the negatives, posting an increase of 204, and Video Blogging's 2,452 was comparable both to last month's 2,511, but much reduced from last year's 3,921. With that holding strong in that range I would theorize that with the significant drop from this time last year in DSMP, (1,357 a year ago, 352 this month), we saw that some of the folks no longer posting DSMP have left MCYT as a fandom and gone to other fandoms, not just relocated within MCYT.

what fic/au were you working on most recently, what is it about, and how did you come up with it?
Hi Rose!!! Omg okay so. I have transed so many genders. Because I am trans and it's fun lol
I've been on a bit of a hiatus from fic writing up until very recently, but a few weeks ago I pulled a year-old concept out of the depths of my Google drive and now it once again has a chokehold on me </3
The background is this: Ysione (Evil Xisuma) was sent off of Hermitcraft to make friends because the only people they ever talked to willingly were Xisuma and Zedaph. While out, they discover a fun server plugin that swaps the sex of whomever it affects and is mainly used for... Private servers of a certain persuasion. They decide that it would be a fun prank to send to their brother unannounced.
...Except that when the worm he made drops its payload, it spreads and affects everyone on hermitcraft and resists attempts to remove it.
Oops...?
That all happens off page.
On page are the rest of the hermits in various stages of glee and/or severe distress. The hermits that already knew they were trans (i.e., Grian, Gem) are having a great time. Cis hermits range from using the plugin for its intended purposes (Keralis and xB lmao), to vague but manageable discomfort (False, Impulse), to suffering (Doc and Etho), to having a gender crisis (Tango). I have a whole spreadsheet to keep track of how different hermits have reacted to the plugin :D If anyone is curious about how a particular hermit reacted I can and will infodump at a moment's notice.
The story is all about friendship, community, body image, gender identity, and mutual support. Even when they're Going Through It, I wanted the overall impression of the story to be gentle and feel-good.
