Ryder: "Oh, we won't! We have thought of everything! And for this very reason we also have uniforms suitable for the occasion! They keep you very warm and are ideal for the Voeld climate!"

OH MY GOODNESS. I thought about my response to this only to never respond to it all I know is pain ;--; I don't even remember what this ask game is. Is it the snippet one? You're gonna get a snippet.

My Skyllian Blitz piece follows a 22 year old Ryn through her last stand at the Skyllian Blitz (she's the War Hero one) and her defense of the base/her team. This is very ambitious as I've failed to complete anything lately lol, but it will most hopefully follow her receiving the Star of Terra and her nomination for the N7 Program.

It has lots of angst. Ryn doesn't handle the Blitz well. She speeds through mandatory counseling and decides the best way to deal with things is to Not (yay avoidance) and instead develop a crippling need to Save Everyone All the Time. When we hit ME3 especially with Thessia, that comes back to bite her.

Really this fic is a continuation/expansion on THIS fictober prompt from 2021.

SNIPPET TIME

Ryn made peace with the fact that today was the day she would die.

Six weeks after she’d been handed a fresh diploma, four weeks after pinning her first officer rank.

A little over a month since she’d celebrated her twenty second birthday and send off to Elysium, and pinning of second lieutenant all in one, the last time she’d seen her mother and almost everyone she knew. The last red velvet cupcake she’d eaten. Her last sleep in a luxurious comfy bed.

The metal border to the colony was a twisted wreckage of metal behind her. Their slapdash defenses smoldered.

For now, it was quiet. But there was subtle movement in the trees and bushes. Guns reloading, bodies trembling.

Ryn wiped blood from beneath her nose, drawing up a shimmering purple barrier on her skin even as pressure built in her temples. Her shotgun weighed heavy in her hands.

Today was the day she was going to die.

And that was okay.

N7 Month, Day 28 - Dance

Some ME1 Allie & Kaidan backstory.  It’s short, but seemed like an important part of their history, so it’s also over on AO3.

The joke was that Commander Allie Shepard couldn't dance to save her life.  It started when she was drinking with the crew and did some stupid little shuffle thing, trying to not spill her drink.  At first, she tried explaining that no, she actually could dance, but no one believed her.  The fact she'd had copious amounts of alcohol did nothing to help her protests because while she wasn't completely drunk, she wasn't entirely stable on her feet, either.

So she went along with it.  No one asked her to dance because they all assumed she couldn't.  And she was ok with not dancing in public – her last dance recital had been the week before Mindoir was attacked and she hadn't really done anything since then.  So she made sure she kept her dancing private – usually in her room or maybe while she was doing laundry.  Which was exactly how one Kaidan Alenko found out Commander Shepard could cut a rug.

They had two days on the Citadel but Allie didn't leave the ship.  Kaidan was disappointed, but she promised to meet him for dinner somewhere that first night.  She simply had too much paperwork to get caught up on to really take advantage of shore leave.  She did take advantage of being mostly alone on the ship, though.

She did her work in the shuttle bay, where she had easy access to the requisitions logs and everyone's gear.  She plugged in some earbuds, turned on some music, and set to work.  Instead of just walking to whatever station she needed to check, she danced.  She boogied.  She jived her way across the floor, gliding and spinning like she did when she was a kid.  She never heard the elevator hiss open and she never saw Kaidan take two steps into the bay before seeing her.

He watched, fascinated, as the woman everyone claimed couldn't dance at all strutted and bopped her way from place to place, checking boxes and initialing her approvals.  He didn't bother to hide, either, or watch where she couldn't see him. He wanted to see her reaction to someone finding out her little secret.  So he leaned against the bulkhead, crossed his hands in front of him, and enjoyed the show.

When Allie did finally notice him, she froze for a few moments.  She pulled her earbuds out and stalked over to where he was standing – a grin spread across his face when she neared him.

“So, Commander....” he started.

“Not. One. Word, Alenko,” she hissed.  “If anyone finds out about this, I will end you. Painfully.  Got it?”

“Your secret is safe with me,” he promised, crossing a finger over his chest.  She glared at him for a few moments before stalking away to finish her paperwork.

He didn't ask why she didn't want people to know – that was her business.  The fact that he knew something about her that no one else did left butterflies in his stomach and he wondered if he could make it so their first real date had her dancing in his arms.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (MET remaster) CONFIRMED - TRAILER LINK (YouTube link)

A new Mass Effect game is also officially confirmed to be in development!!!

The remaster is coming Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with forward compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PS5.

It isn’t a remake. It will feature updated textures, shaders, models, effects and technical features, as well as super-sharp resolution, faster framerates and beautiful visual enhancements. It will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs, all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. More info to come in the new year.

The next game is being made by a veteran team. They’re currently in the early stages of the project and can’t say more just yet.

It’s tough keeping a big secret (and we really struggled to keep this one a surprise) but now it’s official: today we announced the Mass Effect Legendary Edition! We’ve heard (for years!) your requests for a Mass Effect remaster, so we’re super happy to finally reveal that we’ve been working on a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy.

For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games. Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form. It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements. As game developers, we always hope that our games will transcend their original platforms. Having the opportunity to remaster the trilogy means that the fruits of a decade of our work will live on, and will be experienced better and clearer than ever before.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. 2021's Summary of Art

We certainly live in interesting times. I think that reflects pretty well in my art this year, considering the batty amount of changes my style went through as the year went on. Unfortunately, only have eleven instead of twelve drawings this year because of unforeseen circumstances. However, I did significantly more art than I did last year to the point I think I can safely say I did more than writing, and perhaps more than the last two years combined. Oops. Explanations under the cut + 2020 here + a blank version here!

January! My Holiday Harbinger gift for the lovely @faejilly of their Ella Shepard! This one was the more adventurous of the two I did, mostly because of the overlay I put on top of a handful of constellations. I genuinely can't remember which ones they are, I'm not really into astrology. I am very glad that they liked it though!

February! I believe the first time I ever did real ship art? And subsequently, the first time I drew Kaidan this year. It's a little flat and I don't love it as much as I did before, but I'm still pretty pleased with how I figured out the posing for both muses. Never been a fan of drawing kisses, but never been a fan of drawing two muses actually interacting either. The second muse is my AJ Shepard.

March! My darling Svenja Tabris in her Warden armor and looking her best while up to trouble in the Brecilian forest. I discovered the splatter brush and never really looked back on this one, but the first time I ever drew her. Also, the second reason I despise drawing Warden armor. I hate the blue part of it because its so tedious to color, shade and highlight.

April! During one of my sketch giveaways for a handful of mutuals, Raya Auren (who belongs to the lovely @sheyshen). As you can see, probably the first time I learned how to actually draw noses properly. Was not super great with nostrils beforehand, but we figured it out! Loved drawing her features as well, which gave me a foray into something new.

May! My darling Citlali Velasquez (who I almost drew every month this year), just posing somewhere out on the Citadel in an outfit I mashed together from pictures on Pinterest. Hands down my most fashionable muse, second only to Brione because women's pantsuits are hot. Got to play around with a sheer shirt and leather (which I still haven't learned to texture properly) in this picture, as well as levels of lighting.

June! A birthday gift for my mutual @sheyshen of their Kara! I believe I did a photo of her the year prior, so its nice to see the improvement from then, including the radical change in style between then and now. Do go and read the fic she's part of, Koren's Breaking The Bad News.

July! A giveaway reward for the lovely @pigeontheoneandonly of their Nathaly Shepard. It was a real treat to work on her, and I believe one of the few reasons I haven't drawn the N7 armor since then. There's quite the demand for detail on it, but I loved drawing it for them! Do go and read the fic she's part of, Pigeon's Nathaly Shepard series.

August! The second time I did ship art this year, and one I'm actually still really happy with -- of my Citlali Velasquez and Joker. I have many soft spots for them <3 Not actually sure what sparked drawing this one, but the reason I will never draw the crew outfit from three again unless paid. It is unnecessarily complicated and I hate it.

September! So quick "fun" fact, I was in my school's competitive marching band from about August to December this year. TL;DR, I'll literally never do it again because the schedule is destructive and a little dehumanizing tbh. Either way, no work done this month because of a lack of time.

October! Darling Citlali...again. She was my second or third foray into a more painterly style that didn't rely at all on the blender tool, and I loved working with all her color values. Super wacky that I just don't work for a month and then start slapping colors down again in a complete 180 of a style. Thankfully she still looks like herself here, after all I tend to draw her and then she looks like a completely different character because I've morphed into a different artist.

November! Reyna Hawke, finally visualized into all her glory. Finally, I collected all six stones -- I mean all of my main Dragon Age protags. November was literally the first time I had them all drawn in a partially consistent style (Marzie's was October last year I believe), and after her redesign. The first time I've drawn her post-DA2 armor as well, but during the Here Lies the Abyss mission.

December! Can't tag them or name their character just yet (Holiday Harbinger's gifting doesn't open until January 😞), but I adored working on this piece so much!! It's a pose I tend not to like using since the muse's face isn't head on, but working with their character and being able to give them art I'm really proud of was the best part of working on this!!

These are all the major ones - I'm sure I've forgotten a few of the continuing ones that house certain drabbles, but this'll do.

As I look at this list, I'm remembering some of the ones from earlier in the year I'd forgotten about. It's a good way to remind myself I did more than I thought.

My total word count for the year was: 543,233. Over half a million words. (for comparison, the last time I did a full year's worth of writing (2017) I wrote 668,228 for the year. But the next year, I fizzled out by the time I had 150,000 words (around April) and stopped tracking it. It wasn't until April/May 2020 when Caleb Shepard was born that I got back into writing and I didn't start tracking how much I was writing again until 2021)

My Daily Average word count was 1488. Almost on par with Nano for the year.

Highest Month/Wordcount: April - 70,866

Lowest Month/Wordcount: December - 23,849

So, assuming I can keep on track writing wise, what are my goals for 2022?

make substantial progress on Destiny's Fate. I am almost to the halfway point on that story, but even if I posted once a week from here out, it still won't get done until 2023, but I'm okay with that.

God, Caleb Shepard has been in my brain since mid-2021 and unrelenting! LOL I have a number of AU projects (Werewolves, Celtic, WWII, etc.) going for him that I would like to make progress on or complete, plus a couple of new ones.

I also want to make progress on some of Caleb's mainstream stuff. If I go in order of his timeline, I have an interlude piece for between Akuze and when he's N7 I want to get done, plus a story for once he IS N7 where he and his battle buddy, Rosa Morales-Minton team up (and an unsuspecting Kaidan walks into things...), plus I want to get his post-war fics started and (hopefully!) posted. I have a LOT of writing planned for him, and that's outside of prompts and drabbles!

I'm going to see if I can't get caught up on all my Christmas/Holiday prompts I wanted to do in December and get them posted in July for a "Christmas in July Celebration". That includes another AU story for Caleb and a ton of prompts. Some of my other boys are included too.

I would like to start would like to start exploring Rhys Shepard's experiences at BAaT with Kaidan in more depth and maybe get their story moving forward.

Lachlan... sigh My Scottish/Colonist boy has been so patient with me. He's tossed a TON of ideas at me this past year which I've gotten down, but Caleb's refused to let go of my brain to focus on them. Hopefully this year, it'll happen!

Nerf Gun Wars - I need to add a few more chapters to the ongoing shenanigans there...

As of December 30, 2021, I have a new project idea for 2022 (assuming I can get it going). It may or may not be a contender for MEBB when that rolls around (depending on how developed it is). It has the potential to be REALLY FUN but it may turn into one of those HUGE projects that takes far too long to plot out and plan. Still, it's already underway, so there's always a chance actual writing will begin...

I'm sure I'll adjust my goals and set new ones as the year goes on. I may or may not track my numbers again this year. While I'd like to - there's a certain sense of achievement when I hold myself accountable like this - I also know that with the way things are at the moment, my stress levels may make writing difficult and the lack of numbers can be discouraging (no matter how I tell myself it's okay to not focus on them). Eh, we'll see how it goes.

This year I am the harbinger of holiday cheer for lyrishadow! They wrote a lovely series of holiday themed fics about her Egan Shepard and Kaidan, so I wanted to draw something that called back to those and Egan’s hand knitted N7 scarf from Mama Alenko.

N7 Month, Day 12 - Water

Just some pre-party filler.  It’s short, so I didn’t bother putting it on AO3. . . . . . .

Allie had some time before her guests would start to arrive.  The last thing she wanted to do tonight was party at all, much less host one in her new apartment, but Joker kind of forced her into it – she was having guests tonight whether she liked it or not  She smiled to herself, though, and thought, “Payback's a bitch.”

Her armor and weapon had been cleaned and locked away.  The food and drink was delivered just a bit ago. All that was left was for her to clean herself up.  She stood in the doorway of the bathroom, her attention divided between the shower and the hot tub.

Allie never really was one for soaking in a tub – hot water pulsing from a shower head seemed to always work just as well as, if not better than, a long soak in water that gradually cooled down.  Still, the hot tub had jets – directional jets Allie could adjust to help work loose any kinks in her muscles. She groaned as she rolled her neck; fighting her clone did wonders to put kinks in muscles she forgot she had and aches in places that never ached before.

“I guess I really am better than I give myself credit for,” she mumbled to herself as she stripped. “Even without all the training I've had, that clone was a tough fucking fight.”

Allie tested the water with her toes, before stepping in and slowly sinking in until just her head was visible.  She leaned her head back, resting it on the edge of the tub, suddenly wishing she had a glass of wine or something else to drink.

“Damn, this feels good,” she murmured, letting the jets pulse water against her back and limbs.  “I could fall asleep here.”

“That would be inadvisable, Commander,” Glyph said from outside the bathroom.  “Unconsciousness increases the risk of your airway becoming submerged, which could lead to your death.”

“Yeah, I know,” Allie grumbled.  She was thankful, though, the drone was there to keep her on her toes.  She knew if she fell asleep, she wouldn't drown – she was far too light a sleeper for something so tragic to happen – but she could very easily lose track of time and be late for her own party.  “Glyph, how much time do I have?”

“The guests are not scheduled to arrive for another thirty minutes, Commander.  Shall I set a timer for you?”

“Yes, please do,” Allie sighed and closed her eyes again, fully intending to catch a quick nap before the party got underway.
