Article: 'Will Commander Shepard return in next Mass Effect? FemShep hasn’t received the call'
Jennifer Hale, informed us she hasn’t “heard from anyone” regarding the follow-up
Excerpt:
"Going straight to FemShep herself, we recently sat down with legendary video game voice actor Jennifer Hale, discussing a variety of her most popular roles, chief among them being the female lead in Mass Effect. [...] Hale assured she’s had no discussions with the team at EA. “I don’t think I can get in trouble because I honestly don’t know anything,” Hale said when pressed on the topic of the next Mass Effect game. “I would love to come back, I would come back in a hot second… But I haven’t heard from anyone yet.” While no doubt bound by all manner of NDAs, and no doubt legally unable to confirm her return if involved, Hale appeared genuine in her comments, assuring us multiple times it’s been radio silence from EA. “Let them know what you want,” she added. “Email BioWare, email EA, start a campaign. I know Mark [Meer] would do it too, I’ll speak for Mark,” Hale said with a laugh, speaking for her male Commander Shepard counterpart."

I like mass effect, love it, even. when it’s great, it’s great and when it’s not, it’s frustrating in the way it is when things you love don’t hit their full potential
The new N7 Day teaser is Fine, but I think we’re at a point now where BioWare needs to wean themselves away from these yearly sneak peeks. None of them are bad and they don’t get on my nerves, but the more they do this, the more they end up scuttling whatever goodwill they may have (this isn’t even touching the actual company shit going on relating to the recent layoffs and subsequent lawsuit)
Three years in a row of cryptic stuff is all well and good, but either folks are gonna start turning on them for continuing to do this, or the studio just…might not exist anymore before it comes out, sad as it is to say. they should probably not do this anymore until they’ve got something genuinely substantial and worthwhile to show

I'm so torn between wanting Shepard to be the new protagonist and someone completely new. I love Shep but idk how I'd feel if they were the main character again. Just imagine if that's Shep child tho 😭❤️

'Enjoy it despite its flaws' is one thing, but Mass Effect somehow invented its own category: 'simultaneously one of the most flawed and the most well-crafted sci-fi stories I've ever experienced'. These games are incredible. They’re the worst. All the women are sexualized. All the women have deeply flawed and complex personalities without being either demonized or romanticized. The first available f/f ship seems to be written along the guidelines of 'what would a straight man find hot'. As the games go on, they effortlessly include multiple same sex romance options given just as much care and development as the the opposite sex ones. You can play as a xenophobic murderhobo asshole. You can play as someone genuinely caring but also harsh, who inspires growth and co-operation wherever you go but who makes hard choices when you have to. You can kill civilians and punch reporters and commit genocide. You can stop a generational war and mediate peace and save several species from extinction. The robots are stereotypically evil cannon fodder. The robots are deeply complex with a tragic history. Your team mates are assholes with xenophobic opinions or justifications for police brutality and genocide, or they just want excuses to Do Murder. You team mates are deeply flawed and can be urged to grow alongside you. The most important aliens are all humanoids. There are plant aliens and jellyfish aliens and insect aliens and elephant aliens and aliens who can’t share an atmosphere with us. You have to drive around countless identically boring planets with little to show for it. You get to discover hidden secrets and civilisations millions of years old and live through some of the most emotionally harrowing scenes in storytelling history. I am going absolutely insane about it.

Here's that, as a kind reminder for people to BE GENTLE TO KAIDAN.
Tumblr media
I saw the ''Wolverine or Kaidan ; who's the best canadian'' poll on tumblr, and had the SHITTIEST idea to go trough the reblogs tags and HOLY SHIT PEOPLE NEED TO FUCKING CHILL ???
Like basically, people voting for Kaidan were like ''sorry Logan, but Kaidan is my sweet baby boy </3'' while people voting for Wolverine were literally shitting on Kaidan and his fans and MAN ?? I DID NOT LIKE SEEING THAT.

And in the middle of drawing this I thought that I absolutely had to make that second part.
Shepard is in his ''emotional battery'' recharge phase.

[source (Senior Reporter at Kotaku), linked Kotaku article, two, 'FC 24's performance link', three, four, @/N7SeveranceDay (source of the last two images, "Account supporting BioWare employees laid off in 2023."), five, six, Polygon tweet, Polygon article]
"BioWare Continues to Refuse to Pay Severance" statement transcript:
“BioWare Continues to Refuse to Pay Severance On August 23 of this year, BioWare eliminated “approximately 50 roles at BioWare”. Following the layoffs, seven ex-BioWare employees engaged the services of R. Alex Kennedy to represent their interests, stating that the amount of severance offered was insufficient under Alberta common law. Counsel for the employees has attempted to reach a compromise that would avoid requiring lengthy court proceedings, but BioWare’s lawyers refused any offers to negotiate and settle out of court. The basis of Kennedy’s claim is that according to Alberta precedents and under Canadian law, these employees should be receiving approximately 1.7 months of severance per year of service they gave to BioWare. BioWare has now filed a Statement of Defence, which argues that the seven terminated employees are only entitled to two weeks of severance per year spent in service to BioWare, because of a contract provision that Kennedy says is not enforceable. The filing means BioWare will be taking these former employees to court rather than working towards finding an out of court resolution. The developers involved in the suit have expressed their disappointment: - “We are disappointed that BioWare prefers stalling and intimidation tactics to fair dealing with people who have given years, and in some cases decades, of dedication and hard work to the company.” - “We believe they are using intimidation and stalling tactics to try and get us to drop out. A lot of the more junior employees and those with families, who had more monetary pressure on them, could not risk waiting on a court case that may take many months more to resolve, and have already had to drop out.” - “At the time of the layoffs, BioWare offered us professional assistance in finding new employment, and an additional payment, but ONLY on the condition that we signed an agreement saying we cannot talk about any details of the settlement, and that we would completely waive any right to legal action or even to complain in any way about anyone associated with BioWare now or ever in the future. Tactics like that sure make me think that BioWare knows it is in the wrong.” - “Despite what they publicly announced when they laid us off, this process has been anything but empathetic, respectful, and communicative.” The latest BioWare layoffs were the third round so far this year, and many of the developers affected even in earlier rounds are still searching for work, though some have started to find new positions. Regardless of employment status, the members of the current lawsuit state they remain determined to pursue BioWare in court, regardless of their employment status: - “We strongly believe that if Dragon Age: Dreadwolf does not do as well as BioWare or EA wants at launch, there will be more, even larger layoffs. Therefore, regardless of our own well-being, we believe it is important to hold BioWare responsible and get a clear decision on what settlement amount is legal. We’re no longer part of the development team, so the best way we can help our former teammates now is to hold BioWare accountable and ensure that the next group who is laid off are not treated as poorly as we were.” November 7th marks “N7 Day”, which is a fan celebration of BioWare’s Mass Effect games featuring Commander Shepard and the crew of the Normandy. The developers involved in the lawsuit are hoping N7 Day this year will be a reminder to BioWare of the importance of loyalty to your crew, and hope fans can have a little fun and help express their support with memes and images using an #N7SeveranceDay hashtag. The ex-employees involved in the suit are all based in Canada and have an average of 14 years at BioWare.”

Tried something new with this! My kickass gal, Ceifia Be’sashi: tactical fashion designer, model, and girlfriend of @straypurplebread’s turian, Spectre, Nex Galius.
I then left it messy for artistic reasons and Definitely not because I am Lazy and have the attention span of a gnat on caffeine.
Fun fact: this was my first time drawing an asari! How had I not done that yet?
Oh! And here’s a WIP shot I took (i May Have Forgotten to flip the canvas back whoops)

kindling hope in my heart for Mass Effect: The Next One to show some more variety and open-mindedness with regards to alien friends and romances by reminding myself that BioWare went from incredulous that players could actually want to romance Garrus to making and selling an official body pillowcase of him. They can be taught… they can learn & grow
