I saw your explanation about lords in black and I have a question: tgwdlm the main lord in black is pokey, in black friday it is wiggly, and in npmd, who would it be?

well, NPMD isn't really that simple I don't think. It's all of them. All five Lords in Black. And I think that makes sense.

Let me back up and explain. So NPMD happened after both Nightmare Times had been released. Obviously NPMD had been "in the works" before then, but for the actual finished show, I think Starkid assumed that a substantial amount of the people watching would've seen Nightmare Time. So I reckon they wanted to give something new to those people, while also not excluding people who hadn't watched it. That's just my assumption, though.

Not every Nightmare Time story is directly related to the Lords in Black.* About half the episodes have a bit more of a 'monster of the week' vibe. Hatchetfield Ape-Man, Forever and Always, Perky’s Buds and Killer Track are some examples. Generally, the pattern goes: a monster of the week, then a Lord in Black, then a monster of the week, then a Lord in Black.**

So when NPMD rolled around and (again, this is kind of me speculating) Starkid wanted to give something new/rewarding to those who watched Nightmare Time, while accommodating those who didn't, so they decided to do both. A particularly memorable and exciting monster-of-the-week is the main event, and we also get to see the Lords. Hatchetfield lore is referenced but you don't need to know much about it, and the stuff you do need to know is communicated through what the characters learn. The Waylons were in a cult and had their weird book which they used to worship Wiggly and co., and now they're dead and their house is cursed or something. Got it.

The other thing about Nightmare Time is... we've already seen each Lord in action. Heck, including TGWDLM we've seen Pokey twice. So what's better than one Lord in Black? FIVE LORDS IN BLACK!!!!!

So having not just Wiggly, but ALL of the Lords - with brand new Tumblr sexyman forms to boot - and showing them in a new and interesting role of pretty much the Deus Ex Machina of the show (this is hands-down the most helpful they've ever been) is something that feels very new and very rewarding to NMT watchers. Like "Oh my god! I know those guys! But it's all of them! This rules!"***

But also, showing Wiggly again gives the non-NMT watchers something to latch onto. Showing his brothers is in itself the new exciting thing, like "Oh my god, it's Wiggly! Wait - there's more of him? What the hell?!" At its core, their purpose in the plot is simple and comprehensible. It's deal-with-the-devil plotline, it's not rocket science. That, and showing all the Lords and dropping crumbs of lore could also get non-NMT watchers excited and interested, and would hopefully entice them to watch Nightmare Time. (Which I am once again encouraging you to do! There's so much you're missing out on!)

So TL;DR - My guess is that Starkid wanted the show to be rewarding to Nightmare Time watchers, and accessible to non-NMT watchers. They did this by combining the two main Nightmare Time episode formats (monster of the week and Lords in Black) in a way that felt new and exciting, wasn't too lore heavy to confuse non-NMTs, but was just lore-y enough to get them interested and feeling rewarding for NMT watchers who already knew about this stuff. So that's why they used all five Lords.

*If you want to be pedantic, you could say everything/most things in Hatchetfield lead back to things like the Witchwood or the Starry Children or whatever, which arguably lead back to the Lords, but what I mean is not every Nightmare Time is about one or more Lord in Black directly making a mess. The 'monster of the week' things I mentioned are all related to stuff that happened years and years ago, so they don't count as much.

**Okay, NMT2 doesn't really stick to this formula as cleanly, but that doesn't really matter for my point.

i definitely think they have all their dreamies!!! dustin absolutely makes his own amiibos so i think he helps everyone get who they want. i also think he gets involved in a lot of discords and treasure islands so even for the 8 new villagers that didn’t have amiibos at the time, he def had a billion nmt and was very lucky with villager hunting lol. in terms of who their dreamies aaarrrrreeee…

mike: lucky, ankha, wolfgang!! i think those are the only 3 he super cares about and likes to have a rotation + enjoys villager hunting. he just vibes with whoever and isn’t super picky but i think he’s attached to the 3 i picked because he had them in new leaf and they’re his Friends.

will: ruby, coco, sasha, gaston, teddy!! i know that him being bunny coded is affecting my vision but i’m correct. he lovvveeeesss bunnies and i think he’d love ruby and coco so much bc they’re cute but also a little creepy looking so he’d feel bad for them. and i think gaston is so silly looking that he is obsessed with him. teddy is bc he reminds will of a real life walter :)

max: agent s, hazel, keaton, katt, bob!! quite a few but she’s definitely super picky. i think she hardcore judges villagers for being ugly but has also decided some “ugly” ones are so ugly they’re cute (hazel and katt) and they are her ride or die’s. she didn’t seek them out they sought Her and she vibes. definitely hits villagers she hates with a net and sends them hate mail even though that increases friendship with them lol. hates sheep villagers.

el: dotty, audie, pekoe, beardo, greta, scoot, tia, faith, dobie, papi!! obviously a full list but she went through and made sure she had one of each personality type and doubled up on her fave types (normal and peppy). she is def into aesthetics but also thinks some of them are funny!! like scoot with his hat and beardo (who reminds her of hop)

lucas: benjamin, lucky, daisy, butch, shep, cherry! truthfully i think he loves dogs and would have a whole dog island. the ones listed are his absolute faves and the other spots he kind of just rotates as necessary until he finds a personality combo that he likes!!

dustin: raymond, marshal, shino, sherb, zucker, merengue, julian, judy, roald, pietro!! sorry that he is the way he is. he sells villagers on the black market and then just puts them back in his town. it’s not my fault (it is).

2 me they all share a nintendo switch online family plan, so they all technically have hhd! i think mike, dustin, and el are the only ones who actually really play it tho. el tells will he would love it and will doesn’t listen but he might suddenly have another interest in acnh and specifically hhd starting in september 2023. who knows. (i know.)

also you didn’t ask but dustin and mike time travel. sorry about it!!!!

Axe Man and Run Away With Me are maybe two of my favorite songs of all of nmt, maybe even all of Hatchetfield, I love them so much, I always have to try and get it at max volume with both ear buds in it's just *chefs kiss*

Virginity Rocks and Perky's Buds are so crazy (affectionate) and are so much fun to vibe to

Yellow Jacket is such a good song to jam to

I did not know I needed a hard rock version of the nmt theme, but I am so glad I have it

Young At Heart is growing on me very very quickly

Latte Hatte is a song I did not expect to like as much as I did, but here we are.

Honey Queen is such a good smooth jazz song, and am further impressed since I remember Jeff saying how hard it was to write since it was essentially about nothing lol

And then there's Next Time. A song that only got the tears flowing harder after Yellow Jacket, and is still an absolute vibe that I cannot get enough of.

does your island have a specific theme? and how complete is your museum? (i have all fossils :D!!)

Tbh I’ve never been going for a specific theme with my island, I’ve kinda been making it up as I go along, choosing whatever villagers and furniture I think are cute. I’ve tried to keep my island looking very natural and similar to how it was when I first arrived

However a friend who visited me said that my island had Alice in Wonderland vibes and... honestly I love that. I have the teacup ride placed on my island and I also have a lot of flowers and other brightly coloured items, and Alice is actually one of my wand outfits. So I wasn’t ever going for a specific theme but... accidental Alice in wonderland vibes are accidental but welcome nonetheless I guess

I also have all fossils!! I was very proud of myself haha. I have.... most of the bugs. I’ve almost played in all seasons now so once April’s out I’ll make a log of all the ones I don’t have and try my best to get them all, but I know some of those beetles in the summer can be very elusive haha. And I’ve never been able to catch a tarantula or scorpion (although in my defence I’ve only seen about 3 and I fainted every time, and I’ve never managed to reach tarantula or scorpion island on my NMT travels) but nonetheless it is kinda frustrating ... I’ll get them one day.

And in terms of the fish i sometimes just.... forget to use fish bait lol. Collecting the clams and crafting it all is very tedious (@/nintendo bulk crafting when?) But I have managed to catch a rainbowfish and an oarfish!! Very proud of both, the fish isn’t going so great but I’m still very proud of my museum and love hanging out there!!

When we signed in for today, Isabelle announced that we had a villager at the campsite! So we went to go say hi. Who knows? Maybe today will be the shortest villager hunt EVER! (Or we'll go on two again.)

It's Julian! Yes, he does have a space theme - but unfortunately he goes more for the horoscope angle than the science angle. I had considered him while making my list of planned visitors, but decided that even though he could be considered sci-fi, he doesn't have enough SCIENCE for my take on SCIENCE-fiction.

Oh well... 😭 He's sweet, but we had to move on.

While I was running around doing a few errands, Phoebe kidnapped me again. 😄

Well, I guess I can't say no if you even cleaned your house! lol That should be celebrated.

This girl knows how furniture is really used. 😂 She is going to be hard to say goodbye to when the time comes. I've really enjoyed her on my island.

After emptying our pockets and picking up some NMTs, we're off!
