Neopets discourse is always funny to me because whenever drama starts up 90% of the time it's over something that's just objectively really silly

For example, right now there's neo-billionaires threatening to quit the site over a rare item being released, which wouldn't be funny except the item in question is a tiny pea wearing a Santa hat

the assholes of the current admin removed the incredible, thorough, scholarly research study that was sponsored by the NPS about LGBTQ+ life in America and American LGBTQ+ history from the NPS website. Suspecting that they would, in fact do this, I downloaded a copy of it, which you can now find (and download) here.

Fuck them for deleting this important piece of scholarly research and writing about LGBTQ+ history in America. We're here and we're queer (as in fuck you). We have ALWAYS been here and no matter what they do, they can't change that.

I remember getting the coolest NPS Pride shirt my first month working for the park service. It's not official uniform but employees of the park put an order together and are allowed to use the logos so it's got the right font and everything. It has a little rainbow ranger on the front and was maybe the first time I've ever felt pride for an organization i was working for.

actually im still hung up on this ‘the terror if they had bear spray’ concept.

modern au in which silna is a backcountry ranger who has one REALLY bad season, during which she keeps getting called out to rescue these guys from getting lost in ice caves / falling off mountains / not carrying bear spray and having bear encounters / actually carrying bear spray but only ever succeeding in macing themselves (despite never having a bear encounter).

none of them have backcountry experience. none of them know any sort of bear safety. they’re storing food in their tents. somebody in one group lost their pack fording a river and now they’re short on food and completely mapless. first documented park visitor encounter with a polar bear and it’s eight guys from britain on a work team-building retreat. graham gore fucking died. the paperwork is going to be a nightmare. she’s so tired.
