#Native instruments free reverb for free
You can download it for free from NI’s website until January 16, 2020. The idea with the WallsOfSound plug-in is to emulate, in a way most general as possible, the reverberant effects of sound traveling from sources to receivers in a three-dimensional space bounded, fully or partially, by walls of specified sonic reflectivity coefficients. CompatibilityĪs always, the plug-in is available for macOS 10.13 and up and Windows 7 and up in VST, AU and AAX formats (64 bit). WallsOfSound is a free reverb VST, VST3 plugin developed by Fractone. Those are a quite a lot of creative features for a freebie! We don’t know if NI plans to release an enhanced commercial version of Raum in the future (Raum XT?), but for a free reverb, this already looks really useful as it is, and I’ll download it for sure. You can also automate this control to introduce different bits of the source material into the frozen reverb, and use it in combination with the feedback to change the overtones. It freezes the reverb tail, instantly creating endless ambient washes of sound. Use it in combination with the filters and modulation, and Raum becomes more of a creative sound design tool than a reverb.Īlso, the little snowflake in the GUI isn’t just for show. This lets you transform simple sounds into mesmerizing sonic textures. Turn it up, and the feedback introduces interesting overtones into the sound. Where it gets interesting is the feedback control in the predelay section. You can choose from different modes like “airy” and “grounded”, which are indicated by the GUI colour scheme. There are also low and high cut filters, as well as a knob for adding modulation to the reverb tail. It’s got all the usual controls for predelay, decay, diffusion, size and damp. RAUM by Native Instruments is a creative reverb effect capable of simulating any type of acoustic space. The company has also launched a holiday giveaway and is offering a 25 voucher. On the surface, Raum looks like a pretty straight-forward reverb plug-in. Native Instruments has announced the release of RAUM, a creative reverb plugin that is available as a freeload only until January 16th, 2020. This year’s holiday season seems to be all about reverb, and with NI Raum, you can add yet another one besides Arturia’s Rev PLATE-140 to your collection for free. In recent years, we got Kinetic Treats, Phasis and TRK-1 Play. Native Instruments’ annual Christmas gift has become a beloved tradition.

do you have a preferred method to get vsts and other such instruments for a DAW?? im poor as heck and dont know ANYTHING about piracy, im so scared of getting goobered by people on the internet
i wish i knew more about the best go-to sites for pirating rn unfortunately i have no clue. ppl on the internet can have such shit intentions too so i dont even know where to look or who to ask. but also here's some free + VERY cheap things u may consider (below the break):
vital synth (i will always shill for vital bc i use it constantly and its free lol)
ob-xd synth (it says buy for $49, but the free download is on the left. the buy link is just a donate)
klanghelm plugins (all these are made by one dude. mjuc is a great vintage style compressor, the dc8c is a pretty featured compressor for the price, sdrr has a particularly nice tube saturation/distortion, and vumt is a great metering plugin, i have vumt on every single project since 2019)
analog obsession (if you donate $5 to their patreon you can get every single plugin they make. also all made and maintained by one person. lots of different things, so i recommend just downloading everything and exploring the functions of the plugins)
tokyo dawn labs (all very high quality mixing stuff. they have free versions of most of their premium stuff and they're quite featured despite being free. ez.)
kilohearts (they recently made all their main effects free. and if you want their flagship stuff, its all rent-to-own as well.)
sforzando (soundfont player. if you dont know what soundfonts are, theyre essentially really condensed, lightweight sampled instruments. they can often sound rlly cheap or tacky [which might be good, i definitely love that sound] but just install this and google [instrument] soundfont and just find lots of free instruments that way)
togu audio line (some free effects and instruments if you scroll down. but i also recommend TAL Sampler if you want a cool sampler and can afford it)
meldaproduction (has a free plugin suite. theres an annoying watermark at the bottom for free versions, but everyone understands. shit is expensive)
native instruments (they have the komplete start bundle which is just a bunch of free decent stuff)
musicradar FREE SAMPLES (ive sworn by a few of the sample resources that i've gotten from musicradar as far back as 2011 lol)
looperman FREE SAMPLES (looperman is a user-sourced sample website where ppl upload samples they've made* and you can just download and use them for free. sometimes people request specific credit, so check for that if you can. *NOTE: its very possible for people to upload unlicensed samples or stuff they didn't make so use your best judgement when sorting through stuff)
freesound FREE SAMPLES (freesound rules always reliable)
synth1 (AHHHH IM SO HAPPY I CAN RECOMMEND THIS RIGHT NOW!!!! synth1 used to be abandonware but was finally picked up again and is supported by modern systems once more. i used this religiously from 2013-2017. and i'm going to start using it again honestly)
valhalladsp (this is the only exclusively premium thing i'm going to leave in this thread [aside from bitwig, below], but it's just that god damn good. every plugin of theirs is $50, so if you can manage to go for ValhallaVintageVerb and/or ValhallaDelay you will basically never need another reverb/delay ever again; would recommend NOT pirating from them if you can help it bc theyre definitely a very small company but u know.. ur call)
bitwig (if you need a DAW, i can now heartily recommend Bitwig. it's on the rent to own program through splice if you're ok getting it legally...)
i know this isnt what u asked but i hope its still helpful. i've also rescinded my recommendations for spitfire audio bc the company was revealed to be run by a bunch of queerphobic knuckleheads. everything in this list i have personally used for my own music and can vouch for them from actual experience (YES even bitwig, i made the song "Futura" on Carousel exclusively with Bitwig, making it the first time i've made an entire song outside of Ableton since 2014).
again i hope this helps, forgive me for not knowing enough about pirating at the moment 😭 please make so much music and please look at this animal:

i'll say a few things here and there on how i approach mixing based on a set of guidelines i've been giving thru learning. i won't go 100% and i encourage you research further on your own as everyone has a different perspective of certain concepts. whats important is that you understand the concept so that you are able to interpolate on it with your own liberties. yeah. please read the links before looking at my commentary or you won't understand what im saying.

The weight off
Tumblr media
One last missive before list season consumes us and 2023 is vacuumed up by time.
The Lewers, 518A (Lulu's Sonic Disc Club)
Yet another new supergroup from the endless expanse of Australia's underground, this one featuring Yuta Matsumura (Orion, Low Life, solo, many others), some folks from Itchy Bugger and Rapid Dye, and more. The Lewers douse these seven tracks with loads of reverb and a couple great Itchy Bugger-style guitar lines worming under the surface. Think 4AD: gauzy, dreamy excess best paired with a juicy red wine, topped with deceptively catchy vocals. "Postcards for Terrorists," a big winner in the song title contest of 2023, is probably the poppiest number, the intertwining vocals of Yuta and (I think) Sarah Davis driving the chorus home. The songs led by Davis ("Kalopsia," "Specter Vermillion") and others like "Sin Tonight" have a 70's English folk-like quality, lilting and haunting, performances that seem inspired in part by the soundtrack to The Wicker Man. While every track on here sounds good, and I keep returning to the record during the gray days and long nights, most don't register in my memory after the record's done, with the exception of "Postcards" and "O Karina." The latter is almost an instrumental song, with Matsumura singing well beneath the shroud of guitars, and when that second, sharp guitar line that slices through about two-and-a-half minutes in, it trickles in through the brain and down the spine every time. This kind of lush, textural music often benefits from a little length, but the Lewers keep things trim, maybe to a fault, as a couple tracks could have been teased out like "O Karina." Likely I just wish the record was a bit longer; even if it isn't anything new, 518A's confines, most definitely outfitted with a white faux-fur area rug, are a fine place to sprawl in contemplation.
The Native Cats, The Way On Is the Way Off (Chapter Music)
Long-player number five from Hobart's finest, many years removed from their last, John Sharp Toro. In the interim, the Native Cats released two of the best singles in recent memory - Spiro Scratch and Two Creation Myths - so expectations were high. Their core sound remains Chloe Alison Escott's spoken-sung vocals and incisive, biting lyrics grounded by Julian Teakle's bass, but they're joined by live drums on a number of tracks here, and there are even points when Escott cedes control of microphone to backing vocals (The Last Gang Vocal on Earth, according to the credits). Over the past ten years, Escott's lyrics have shifted from fictional scenes to the semi-autobiographical, incorporating more personal details in the songs, sporting ferocious tenacity or tender self-affirmation depending on the song. Her queer and trans identity is inseparable from the Native Cats' evolution, including all the frustration, self-doubt and pockets of joy involved in coming out and being out. She hardly sounds defeated; given the spots of violent imagery across The Way On Is the Way Off, I wouldn't bet against her in a fight.
The record begins in fits and starts, and while the first three tracks are undeniably in the now-recognizable Native Cats style, I think the action really begins after the "Former Death Cult" interlude. "Small Town Cop Override" roars into action with a drumroll and features one of Escott's sharpest lyrical performances ("I strive for victory or hallucination" and "I've seen the future, it's a chain of tricks/Come 'round and watch me turn a crisis into six") atop pounding live drums and blaring chords, burning bright and out in 80 seconds. It bleeds right into "Vivian Left Me," a slow, plodding number with a bass line ripped from David Sims' playbook. Escott has free reign to prowl over the buzzing, ominous terrain, and drops one of my favorite lines of the year with "When your dreams come true, they feel/distressingly like dreams." The track sears and bubbles without cresting, endless tension floating exhaustedly into the haunting "Dallas," a spare, solemn ballad. The lyrics are opaque, tangled; it feels like a meditation on what has changed for Escott, and what can't be changed or outrun, all wrapped up in the album of the same name released ten years ago.
"Suplex" kick-starts the B-side, a mean bass line and Escott's sneering vocals competing for the first minute and a half, and then the song's taken over by keyboard and piano, a pillowy landing from the body blows of the first half. "Rain on Poison," like "Dallas," is moody and restrained, pounding toms and a single piano note ratcheting up the tension along with Escott's powerful vocals, and as the song progresses, elements are stripped back until it's just Escott in your ear: "Time is running out/At a rate I can handle." It's an almost absurdly powerful affirmation, implying some mastery over the passage of time, but such is the confidence espoused by the Native Cats across The Way On Is the Way Off. It ends the world-beating five-song stretch, and while the rest of the record is good-to-great, even including some of Escott's solo piano work at the end, the middle section is so rich that it feels excessive to have more music outside of it. Yeah, "Tanned Rested and Dead" is a burner, and the NYC-in-the-early-aughts bounce of "Battery Acid" is a good look, too; those tracks might be my favorite part of the record next week. That's the innate joy of a Native Cats record, now more than ever: still harshly resistant to snap judgement and best lived in, seeping into your skin like a sauna and pulling lost memories or feelings or chemicals to the fore. And yet, The Way On Is the Way Off remains endlessly listenable despite the weight of dreams or expectations, the band fully in control of their sound, as comfortable as ever in it. I don't know if it's their best yet - ask me in another few months - but it definitely feels like it might be. Stunner.
Howard Stelzer, oh calm down you're fine (No Rent)
Great tip from my brother to check this one out, he being an effective filter for No Rent's endless release schedule. Howard Stelzer is not a new name, but new to me, and oh calm down you're fine is a sterling example why digging for new music remains my favorite pasttime. Stelzer layers tape loops here, of anything and everything; during the impromptu Bandcamp "listening party," which Stelzer "attended," he revealed that samples include that of making an omelette and the school band warming up next to the classroom where he teaches, the latter featured prominently on "Everybody Thinks So." He's in the league of artists like Joe Colley or Jeph Jerman to my ears, though less wracked with anxiety than the former and more interested in the noise made by humans (as opposed to nature) than the latter. What makes Stelzer's work so exceptional here is the subtle sense of composition; the hard-to-follow logic in the way the sounds are paired, or layered, reminds me of how Philip Jeck would compose and arrange his music. One could mistake "Reconsider From Memory" for something by Jeck with unfocused ears, reminiscent too in the unhurried pacing across the tape. The results are decidedly much more abrasive in Stelzer's case, more smart aleck than somber, though like all experimental noise music worth its salt, what's being communicated is in the hands/head of the listener. As the somewhat disarming "Proportional" appears to wind down, Stelzer introduces some dizzying drum loops, conjuring some sort of ritual where you're at the stake, until the laugh track hits. Better luck finding the thread next listen. My favorite tape of the year, and lucky for you, still available from the label. Dig into more of his work on his Bandcamp.
Water Damage, 2 Songs (12XU)
2 Songs is my first proper run-in with Water Damage, and that is something I've committed to fixing after living with this LP in constant rotation for a month. The ensemble, running eight members deep, creates a thicket of psychedelic repetition, playing with tenets of noise, jazz, krautrock, and hip hop across two side-long tracks, appropriately titled "Fuck This" and "Fuck That." The former rips into action after a false start, a dense, throbbing miasma anchored by a tireless bass line and squalls of guitar noise and feedback circling each other. The band takes a quick breather after six minutes, coming back even noisier, and then inexplicably does the same thing again thirty seconds later - and somehow it all works, the two intentional hiccups swallowed by the aural equivalent of The Blob over the track's barely registered, but deeply felt, ebbs and flows. "Fuck That" is comparatively lighter, roomier, allowing room for a maddening circular xylophone (?) line and keyboards to float atop the distorted bass line and agile drums. Stick around until the bass line becomes loose and rubbery, the whole song submitting to its own weight, like the ghost of DJ Screw just took over your turntable. It's really difficult to do this record justice with words; it feels like it consumes the room, your house, then you when it's on. The density of the record is rendered in sharp relief through the high quality recording and the combined power of the players here, combining as one pulsating mass or frictionlessly bobbing and weaving. That they're an octet likely means I'll never have the pleasure of getting to see them do it live, but it's a consolation that 2 Songs is the best-sounding record of the year; it'll peel your scalp back plenty, and I recommend that you grab the LP and let it rip.

Clementine Valentine — The Coin that Broke the Fountain Floor (Flying Nun)
Tumblr media
The Coin that Broke the Fountain Floor by Clementine Valentine
In the teens, the sisters Clementine and Valentine Nixon made two full-length albums as Purple Pilgrims, exploring a gauzy, spooky, dream-pop palette adjacent to Cocteau Twins and maybe Beach House and communing with the natural beauty of their native New Zealand. They have collaborated, separately, with Gary War and Roy Montgomery. This latest album, with the same people but under a new name, is similarly lovely, in a diffuse, miasma-shrouded way, but perhaps a bit more dramatic. The Coin that Broke the Fountain Floor makes large pop gestures in a thick fog of hum. It is quite beautiful, on the border between soothing and sleep-inducing, though the drums will wake you up if you doze.
“Time and Tide,” for instance, opens with the thunder boom of gate-reverbed drums, the twinkle of acoustic guitars, a shifting palette of background sound, and a high lovely voice that unfurls like silk across long, keening choruses. The song swirls to a climax in surging synths and doubled vocal trills, as one sister careens and the other whispers in the crevices. The volume is high, but it’s hard to make out. The song is all dissolving edges and atmospheres.
“Senelion” is less pop, more witchy art folk, the verses an incantation against drone of organ, with wild twitches of stringed instruments in the interstices. It is, for whatever, reason, hard to follow the words as they weave through the atmosphere, but one line here is fitting for the album as a whole: “She lost herself in dreams.”
I say “dramatic,” but possibly I mean “theatrical” since a couple of the tracks seem to reference the stage. “The Understudy” brings the two voices together in hushed unison; I picture them heads down coaxing the flame of melody to life, overlapping one another in translucent sheets of sonic overload. The subject shifts and remains elusive, but concerns filling in for a dead understudy (which, really, the whole point of understudies is that they fill in, but anyway). It’s all very magick and thrilling, with its tootling organ and swiping strings. The second nod to thespians comes late in “Actors Tears” a relatively pared down waltz of cello and plucked violin and seesawing, sing-song-y vocals. It flirts with folk sorrow (“You’re not to blame for the ruin of me”) but from a place of pop equanimity (“Didn’t we have fun?”). An actor’s tears are hard to parse, and so is the song.
But however hard it is to get a grip on this record, there is no denying its beauty. These songs float free of effort and reference and reality itself and hang like mist shot through with sun.

Why Songwriting & Music Production?
Tumblr media
Music is one of the most powerful forms of expression. Whether you want to write that first hit song, create a jingle, or start producing tracks in your bedroom, the skill set you’ll develop as a songwriter and producer will open up endless creative possibilities. But if you're a beginner, the idea of crafting lyrics, composing melodies, and handling the technical side of production can feel overwhelming. That’s where Songwriting & Music Production: The Essential Beginners guide comes in.
This guide is designed to help break down the complexities of songwriting and production into easy-to-follow steps that anyone can grasp, no matter your musical background or tech skills.
Step 1: Starting with Songwriting
Songwriting is the heart of every great track. Before you even think about production, you’ll need to write lyrics, create melodies, and develop a song structure. Here’s how to get started:
Write What You Feel: The best songs come from a place of authenticity. If you’re new, focus on writing lyrics that are personal to you. Don’t worry about making it rhyme perfectly—focus on conveying emotion.
Start with Chords: Many beginners find it helpful to start with basic chords on a piano or guitar. A simple chord progression can act as the foundation for your melody.
Understand Song Structure: Most songs follow a specific format like Verse-Chorus-Verse-Bridge-Chorus. This gives the listener a sense of familiarity, while also providing you with a blueprint to follow.
Lyric Writing: Great lyrics don’t need to be complex. They just need to connect with the listener. Think about the stories you want to tell and how you can express them in a catchy way. Use themes that are relatable, like love, heartbreak, or adventure.
Step 2: Diving into Music Production
Now that you have a basic song, it’s time to bring it to life using music production techniques. This is where technology meets creativity, and you can start crafting your song’s sound.
Home Studio Setup: You don’t need a fancy studio to get started. Most beginners use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), which is software like Ableton, FL Studio, or Logic Pro. Pair it with a MIDI keyboard, headphones, and a good mic to get going.
Recording Basics: When recording your song, focus on capturing clean vocals and instrumentals. Most DAWs offer simple tools for editing, so even if you're new, you can quickly cut out mistakes and piece your tracks together.
Understanding Production Elements: There are key elements to focus on, like beat making, layering sounds, and mixing. Mixing is the process of balancing all your track elements (vocals, instruments, beats) to create a cohesive sound.
Adding Effects: Don't be afraid to experiment with reverb, delay, and EQ. These effects can add depth and space to your track, making it sound more polished.
Step 3: Songwriting & Music Production: The Essential Beginners—Trending Tools
The world of music production is constantly evolving, and beginners now have access to an incredible range of tools that make the process easier than ever. Here are some trending tools you should consider incorporating into your production workflow:
Splice: A cloud-based platform that allows you to download royalty-free samples, loops, and sounds to add to your track.
Native Instruments' Komplete Start: Offers a bundle of instruments and effects that are free to use for beginners.
LANDR: This online mastering tool helps you polish and finalize your track.
Loopcloud: Perfect for building your sound library with thousands of samples, making it easier to create professional-quality music right from the start.
Step 4: Leveraging Free AI for Songwriting & Music Production
One of the most exciting innovations in songwriting and music production today is the use of free AI tools. These tools can help you with everything from generating lyrics to mastering your track. Here's how you can incorporate AI into your creative process:
Lyric Generators: Tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT can help you come up with lyrical ideas or refine the lyrics you've already written. You can input a theme or mood, and the AI will generate lines or phrases that fit your song.
Melody Generators: Free AI-powered platforms like Amper Music allow you to create melodies and chord progressions by simply selecting a style and key.
Mastering with AI: Platforms like eMastered and LANDR use AI to master your song, meaning they balance your audio and prepare it for streaming platforms like Spotify or YouTube with just a few clicks.
The power of AI in music production is that it can handle the technical aspects, giving you more freedom to focus on creativity. And best of all, many of these tools are either free or offer freemium versions, making them accessible for beginners.
Step 5: Building a Portfolio and Sharing Your Work
Once you’ve produced a few songs, it’s important to start building a portfolio. Here’s what to do next:
Use Social Media: Share your music on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Short snippets of your work can attract a larger audience.
Upload to SoundCloud and Spotify: Once your track is polished, upload it to music streaming platforms. This will give you exposure and feedback from a global audience.
Collaborate: Join online communities or groups like Reddit’s WeAreTheMusicMakers or local music groups where you can connect with other musicians, producers, and songwriters.
Step 6: Continue Learning and Improving
Like any skill, Songwriting & Music Production is something you’ll continue to improve upon with time and practice. Here are some ways to keep growing:
Take Online Courses: Platforms like Udemy and Skillshare offer courses on music production and songwriting for beginners. These courses cover everything from learning your DAW to more advanced production techniques.
Follow Industry Trends: Stay up-to-date with what’s happening in the world of music by reading blogs, watching YouTube tutorials, and listening to new releases from established artists.
Free Tools for Music Production
As a beginner, there are plenty of free tools and software available that can help you create professional-quality music. Some of the best free tools include:
Audacity: A simple and free DAW that’s great for beginners looking to record and edit audio.
GarageBand: If you're using a Mac, GarageBand is an intuitive, free DAW that’s perfect for music production beginners.
Tracktion T7: A professional-level DAW that’s free to download and has a simple interface.
These tools, combined with free AI platforms, can help beginners create songs without the need for expensive equipment or studio time.
Conclusion: Start Your Journey Today!
There’s never been a better time to jump into Songwriting & Music Production: The Essential Beginners. With free tools, AI-powered platforms, and endless resources online, the barriers to entry have never been lower. Whether you're writing lyrics in your bedroom or producing tracks on your laptop, you have everything you need to make your musical dreams a reality.
Don’t let the technical side of things overwhelm you. Start with the basics, practice consistently, and soon, you’ll be writing and producing music that speaks to your heart—and to the hearts of others.

ah 10:34 am GMT+1. perfect time to rate each flstudio plugin ive ever used
rating is based on: personal subjectivity, effort it costs to use, and number of times ive actually used it
-non native instruments- (all these are free btw)
"Accordion VST" ★☆☆☆☆ self explanatory. got it around 1 or 2 years after i started making music for lofi songs. i couldnt get it to sound like i wanted n blend in well with the other instruments so i only used it a couple times. im thinking of trying it again messing around with filters since at the time of use i didnt know how to do that
"Revitar" ★★★★★ acoustic guitar plugin, sounds very folk. absolutely adore and also the very first plugin i got. since my version of flstudio didnt have any acoustic guitar plugins. can be tuned to sound like a shamisen <3 revitar loads poorly in my experience (just doesnt open on boot/loading it) but i always manage to get it to work eventually and its so good i forgive it.
"DSK Dynamic Guitars" ★★★☆☆ classical guitar plugin. got it i think like 5 years ago bc i wanted a guitar plugin that wasnt revitar. not perfect but does the job.
"DSK Overture" ★★★★★ iirc second plugin i got after revitar. it's a plugin for orchestra type instruments. i think i got it bc i wanted a violin. this plugin is amazing as it does many many instruments n i do use most of them. also some "instruments" are actually combo presets. you can set 4 of instruments to play at once (including the combos) which is ideal to mix them and get interesting sounds. absolute fave.
"EasternONE" ★☆☆☆☆ another versatile plugin i got early on when i started music. it does several instruments (though not as many as DSK Overture) among which: aud, accordion, santur, kaman, etc. kinda like accordion vst i used it a few times but not that much. also have a hard time blending the sounds with other instruments in a satisfying way. it does sound way more real and less digital then other plugins.
"NES VST" ★★★★☆ plugin for retro nintendo shape sounds: square, triangle, noise. perfect for that electronic sound and easily tunable <3 loses a star bc requires some work to fit effectively with other instruments.
EDIT: I FORGOT MINI ERHU!!!!!!!!! here it is:
"Mini Erhu" ★★★★★ self explanatory: erhu plugin. has several presets to instantly get different ways for it to sound. mixes very well with other instruments. absolutely perfect i love it so much. its just a sound i love. makes my music sound so weird since i mash it with other instruments in like electronical music etc and yea! idk how to make normal music! anyway its only dramatic downside is that the range is abysmal. otherwise so good.
-native instruments- (came with my FLstudio 12 version fruity edition - bc im fruity and its the shit tier of the paying versions.)
"Boobass" ★★★★☆ very classical bass that fits most modern sounding songs. a lil bland for my taste but perfect for not emphasizing bassline too much
"FLKeys" ★★★★★ // ★★★★☆ piano synth plugin. used to be perfect but in my version it broke so i can only use the shittier presets and i have to tune it every single time i use it. does not save presets. does not let me use my fave setting which was the grandpiano one </3 never got to work normally again.
EDIT: I also forgot FLSlayer OTL here it is
"FLSlayer" ★★★★☆ electric guitar plugin for rock or metal. very versatile for bass, rhythm guitar or solo guitar sound. it comes with a bunch of different "amps" also. just pretty good. dramatical downside is that it takes forever to tune to get the exact sound you want and mix it with other instruments.
-native filters-
"Fruity limiter" ★★★★☆ it's a limiter. always on by default and i never thought to turn it off. have no opinion on it.
"Fruity Reeverb 2" ★★★☆☆ a reverb plugin, fun to play around with to make the song sounds like its in a big orchestral room or something. i cannot be trusted to use it responsibly so ive stopped using it altogether lately.
"EQUO" ★★★★☆ another limiter, very versatile to give interesting shapes to sounds. i use it to get kind of a retro, desaturated sound. very much love.
there. hopefully this gives some insight about how i fully use FLStudio to almost 1% of its capacity. good nite.
also i did not elaborate on drumlines plugins thats bc i broadly dont care about drumline so much so i have way less of an opinion on them. i use most of the native plugins + DSK Overture for the drumline

Write on Track: Baby Blu by Nilüfer Yanya
There's nothing quite like hearing something for the 1st time and being so enamored with the feeling it evokes that you find yourself rewinding it an absurb amount of times. Whether it's a hot new single or your favorite deep cut, there are certain tunes that never lose their flavor no matter how many times you press play.
......
Chelsea native Nilüfer Yanya is characterized by a distinctive throaty vocal presence that's often accompanied by her signature guitar and additional complimentary elements. For quite some time her unique melding of genres has culminated in the form of some rather impressive "indie pop". I use quotations because trying to boil something so dynamic into a genre based box would be a misnomer at best. That being said, her work manages to carve a lane all it's own allowing the fluidity of great songwriting and arrangements to shine through.
......
While Nilüfer is brilliant in my own opinion, I'd still classify her sound as an acquired taste, which isn't bad but more so just is what it is. On which note, I wouldn't say that she specializes in anything that could truly classify as pop music.... which is precisely why the track I've chosen is today's topic.
The song, simply titled "Baby Blu" is a single from her debut LP "Miss Universe" The project itself is a pretty solid offering and a great example of range while remaining cohesive but "Baby Blu" is something different altogether. It manages to fit in well with the album's sequence but something stands apart and beckons for closer examination.
The components are familiar as the tune begins with some reverb laden guitar layered over keys. Almost immediately, the warmth of analog compression and soundstaging provides an heir of comfort and closeness to the instrumental bits. It's often said that the greatest art functions in a way that is seamless. To clarify, there are things that are so well made and engaging that we stop looking for the seams and have no choice but to experience them in real time. "Baby Blu" fits the bill in every sense.
......
To be quite blunt, it's a hit song that never garnered the praise it should have. Production is credited to Bastian Laengbaek who has no other credits on the album but has worked with the likes of Olivia Dean, Jessie Ware and Anna of the North just to name a few.
This one gets me wondering what Ms. Yanya might cultivate if her focus were to shift toward crossover appeal. Regardless it's clear that her versatility as a musician rivals the best contemporary artists.
With thousands of daily uploads and very little quality control some of the best pieces are lost in the shuffle and never quite see their potential impact. To that affect, I think this one deserves a few more plays and a bit more appreciation... feel free to run it back as well.
-YOSHI
