Priestess Tolja So personal redesign

Me and my friends were not very happy with how Nelnal has designed her, she doesn't seem well researched at all and is instead a mish mash of different cultures items put into one. So I tried to make redesign. In my personal redesign she is now inspired by ancient Cymru culture as this is what I am very familiar with being Welsh myself

The carnyx is a weapon that was wielded in battle, it feels perfect for Ratatan.

I am surpised with the lack of public talk about this design, it seems people are just trying to stay quiet and pretend she does not exist. Ratatan is still a work in progress so I hope with enough noise the design is changed.

As a side note, it seems she is the only female character in the game too, at least she is the only female character revealed thus far (excluding The Goddess, I do not think the goddess counts as a solid active character in the game as of the moment due to having 0 design and just being something in the lore). I do not think this is a very great look at all. I would appreciate if more talk about her so she may be improved.

To further talk about "mishmash"... These other designs alongside her. It really does feel like a mess. Nelnal should research better.

Upcoming Deltarune Merch

Hello! It's Nelnal, the character designer in charge of Sweet, Cap'n, K_K, and Tasque Manager in DELTARUNE Chapter 2. I can't contain my surprise at how quickly two years have passed since Chapter 2 released.

When DELTARUNE Chapter 1 was released, I was just one of the millions of fans of Toby's work. I still remember so clearly how completely dumbstruck I felt after receiving a work request from Toby…

I've been involved in a variety of design jobs, but the assignments I received for DELTARUNE were so much fun! It was the first time I've had work where, from the very moment I read the assignment, my mind became filled with ideas one after another. I was asked to draw a character based on a "boom box" theme, so I gave Toby three designs to choose from. (The truth is I made other designs too, but that's a secret.)

To my surprise, in the end he decided to use all three...! I was so delighted!

And so...I'm proud to announce that I was tasked with illustrating some new merch for this upbeat trio! Among the merch are some new stickers, so it'd be great if you could stick them on instruments, speakers, and other music-related gear and enjoy the sound together with them. More details will be announced later this month!

By the way, as a small side note, it seems like the trio's favorite musical genres are dubstep for Sweet, electro for K_K, and hip-hop for Cap'n.

hi unless you have proof that scc are canonically siblings - and no im sorry but nelnal saying they're like brothers once doesnt count as proof, cause that could very easily be meant as very good friends/bros - please stop messaging me to say they are brothers and should be here.

i will happily disqualify them if yall are willing to show me where your statements are coming from. look at it from my perspective: i have a few strangers telling me "they're brothers" on anon w no elaboration vs more people telling me its not canon on and off anon and explaining both headcanons + me doing my own research and not finding anything to support the claim that they're canonically siblings.

im a human! im flawed like anyone else and very capable of making mistakes! so if you do have a source that can confirm that claim then ofc im open to be corrected! so far the ppl saying they're siblings have done nothing but just say it. w no proof to back it up. even after i said its not canon.

so if im wrong, yes educate me! but dont just come to my inbox repeat the same message. they made it to the semifinals because clearly a lot of people do Not see them as siblings. i think both headcanons work great, just remember a headcanon is not canon.

unpopular opinion: cyber battle is a good battle theme oh my god people hold it to SUCH a high standard like just because it's not big shot or aotkq its immediately a bad song . it's SUPPOSED to be fun and upbeat scc are fun and upbeat characters . having an intense boss theme would make the tone of the fight extremely confusing .

HI i was a little late to respond to this only bc it was actually a really tough question, but I think I got it narrowed down! My too five favorite robots in no particular order would be

KK from deltarune!! Honestly I love the whole trio, and Nelnal’s robot designs are just super inspiring to me. Love this weird string bean bot

OF COURSE I GOTTA SHOUTOUT MY BOY CUTMAN i feel like his design is so endearing that he might have initially been responsible for getting me interested in megaman?? Everyone say thank you cutman

Cindy Mayweather from Janelle Monae’s metropolis series!!! Honestly cannot begin to describe how much Monae’s works have influenced both my own writing as well as just who I am as a person. She’s the og cybergirl for sure.

And finally Izzi and Lizzi from neotropolis cause u cant have one without the other. They seem shallow and cutesy at first but they’ve got alot going on under the surface. I love my weird mean-girl vocaloid daughters so much .

My own weird personal method of self care is "Believing Nelnal is free to use SCC outside of the context of Deltarune and is free to give them their own dedicated world like their other characters" and why reassuring myself of this is a comfort method is beyond me but by golly does it work

Also just an FYI because i do reblog both types of content for the characters. In regards to the Sweet Cap'n Cakes. The characters where never explicitly confirmed as either just a group of dudes or siblings, as far as I'm aware nelnal is the only person from the development team whose spoken about their dynamic and even then the last note officially is that it's ambiguous.

I personally see them as a polycule but i have no problem with people seeing them as siblings as long as they aren't making incestuous content as a result. There has been a lot of sweet and funny sibling content made by the fandom and I love being able to share that content with others. The fandom had also made a lot of good content with the idea that the three of them are a polycule. And as a polygamous person i love finding goofy but sweet polyships.

As the rest of the game is developed and we learn more about the deltarune world and more about each of the characters, my one hope is that they never actually confirm either dynamic for the characters. Ultimately whatever the developers decide for the characters I will respect, but I do love being able to show both different types of fandom works and i hope both parts of the fandom is given room to continue to grow.

Each of them were definitely a "side-character" highlight for me for chapter 2! Made me extra happy to find out they (along with the Tasque Master enemy) were designed by the talented @nelnal !

Mystery Skulls Animated monthly update! This month's update is gonna be a fairly brisk one.  As mentioned in the last update, we’re running thin on things to openly display that aren't just slathered in spoilers, and this month is getting hit by that. Instead we thought we’d show off a WIP shirt design by the amazing artist Nelnal on twitter that we’ve had the immense pleasure of working with before. This was going to be part of Mystery Skulls’s tour merch, but now it’s something we think we’ll probably release at a later time when finished or closer to when the next music video is done. The theme of the ninth Object Head Zine is “HISTORICAL FICTION”.

Whether you’re swashbuckling against pirates on the high seas, flirting with a shy noble across the royal court, or partying up at the busiest speakeasy - history awaits you in the new Object Head Zine! This topic is a little open ended: so long as your object head is historically accurate to the time period, it can be whatever you like!

This book will feature 25 people I’ve selected, plus 35 open slots available to the public for a total of 60 participants! This year’s zine is a PAID OPPORTUNITY of $100 USD per page (an increase from previous years!). Participants will be paid as soon as they complete their piece (give or take a week for PayPal to transfer funds). There will be a pre-order sale to cover the costs of printing and shipping.

Illustration-quality works in either digital or traditional mediums. Both colour and b/w acceptable; background required. *BG can be as simple as a pattern or colour block!

6”x9”, 300 DPI illustrations with a 1/8th inch bleed (FINAL DIMENSIONS SHOULD BE 6.25” x 9.25”) Works must be in CMYK, and in a vertical format only.

At least one (1) work in progress picture should be sent in with your final illustration.

For consistency’s sake, keep faces to a minimum (You can have eye(s) or you can have mouth(s) but don’t have both in a humanoid arrangement.)

Original characters only (yours or your friends’).

You can include humans or other creatures, as long as there’s a 1:1 object head to non-object head/human ratio.

This book is for all ages. PG-13 content at the most! Cartoon violence and blood are acceptable, but realistic gore is NOT. Use your common sense. If you’re unsure, run the idea by me.

Depictions of war, fighting, and/or violence are acceptable but please be aware of the usage of symbols in your work. Do not have any usage of hate symbols, associated flags, slogans, greetings, or uniforms. Use your common sense. Any depictions of this will be given a one time warning to remove the offending part of piece. Any refusal or argument against this will remove you from the zine completely.

Do not have the Red Cross, the Red Crystal or the Red Crescent symbol in your piece. Usage of this symbol is legislated by the Geneva Conventions Act, the Trade Marks Act and the Canadian Red Cross Society Act. Any usage of this symbol will be asked to be edited to remove it.

Please put in the proper research when illustrating your historical period, especially if you're drawing from a culture that isn't your own. Mistakes are inevitable, even when working within our own cultures and while 100% accuracy isn't necessary or required, we want to be respectful to the cultures we're depicting.

Completed illustrations must be sent as a flattened psd or tiff file

I get the feeling that Sweet was the one Toby was gonna use right off the bat and the other two were added in later; there's a LOT of unused stuff of just Sweet in the game's data (like walking sprites and a solo boss fight against him), and he pops up in the concept art more than Cap'n or K_K

Huh, I hadn't heard of the solo boss fight. Where did you hear or read about it? Honestly, I might be missing something re: the concept art, too, unless you’re talking about Nelnal’s work.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if that was the case, though, since Sweet's the one who's most invested in the rebellion, and that's kind of their whole reason for being out in Cyber Fields. And like you said, the extra unused sprites are a little odd; you don’t just whip up a set and then decide to cut them out on a whim.

Hate to say it, but the only one I think was definitely a 'yeah, sure let's throw 'em all in' deal is Cap'n. The poor guy's sprites don't have his name attached and he doesn't even have a unique one for being damaged.

- they're all 19 in "human years" (it's that age which I like to call "teen/adult purgatory"; legally an adult but still have juvenile tendencies)

- they all share the same musical interests (namely 90s hip-hop, New Jack Swing, a little sampling of gangsta rap), but I like to imagine that Cap has a soft spot for funk and disco

- Cap is hiding a little handle under that dumb hat I KNOW HE IS

Hello, spotted your post in the tag, Nelnal clarified that its up to interpretation if the Sweet Cap'n Cakes are friends or brothers (see link, which I hope works) Just spreading the word bc I saw you post their tweet (which is deleted now) and wasn't sure if you'd seen the clarification.
