3, 5, 22, and 30 for the music related asks!
3. A song you really like by an artist you otherwise don’t listen to very much (whether that’s because you usually don’t like their music, or just because you haven’t listened to the rest yet)
Common People by Pulp! I've loved this song for a long time but every time I try to get into Pulp beyond the one song, I get annoyed about how all their songs aren't Common People, and then I don't.
5. Name an album you feel is perfect
Excluding the several I alluded to in the last ask, let's go with Tribulation Hymn by Parker Millsap. One of my very favorite albums in the whole world.
22. Name a song that reminds you of one of your best memories
I have too much of a migraine rn to be able to come up with a memory that works and isn't just straight up being at a concert, which feels like cheating :(
30. Name an album you really love that you haven’t listened to in awhile
Already answered this one, but I'll throw in Neyla Pekarek's Rattlesnake!

NEW TRACKS: The Lumineers — “Life In The City”
The Denver-based indie folk band, The Lumineers, just announced their third album, called III, with the song “Life in the City.” This is the last part of Chapter I: Gloria Sparks. Even though it is The Lumineers’ third album, the reason it is called III is because of the nine songs that are separated into three chapters. Each chapter has one of three main characters featured in the music videos telling a complete story.
True to his form of melodic, gritty texture, lead vocalist Wesley Schultz tugs at our heartstrings with his authenticity. You can feel the emotions through the accompaniment of the piano. The vibe of the song is hauntingly beautiful and makes you want to close your eyes and just feel. The journey of the song stems from his earlier days with drummer and co-founder Jeremiah Fraites, when they started out playing with different bands throughout New York City, and eventually solidified their group by adding multi-instrumentalist Neyla Pekarek. The song’s essence captures their love for Manhattan. “Life in the City,” as with many other Lumineers songs, like “Ho Hey” and “Ophelia,” consists of catchy, harmonious words that stick with you.
The Lumineers first caught our interest with their 2012 self-titled album, which eventually became number two on the Billboard Top 200. In addition to being on the Billboard chart, the album was nominated for two Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album. “Ho Hey” was the first single on that album, and a fun fact is that the song was on the season finale of Hart of Dixie. The song itself gained a lot of traction, not just in America, but in Canada and the UK as well. Spotify even named it the most shared song in Manhattan in 2012. “Stubborn Love” and “Submarines” were other hits on the album. Rumor has it that even former President Obama had “Stubborn Love” on his iPod playlist. These indie rockers are super cool and got to open for U2 on their Joshua Tree anniversary tour after they completed their second album in 2016 called Cleopatra.

Episode 352: Neyla Pekarek
Tumblr media
On a day in late October 195, Kate Slaugherback singlehandedly killed 140 rattlesnakes to protect herself and her young son. When she ran out of ammunition, she grabbed a nearby sign to bludgeon the venomous reptiles. Legend has it, the sign read “No Hunting.”
It’’s clear why Neyla Pekarek found the ideal subject matter in Rattlesnake Kate. She also found something of a kindred spirit.
Playing cello in one of the world’s biggest rock groups isn’t quite like exterminating rattlesnakes en masse, but her time with the Lumineers could be harrowing nonetheless.
News of her exit from the Denver  in late 2-18 group was enough to warrant a press release noting that the parties had amicably parted ways, and Pekarek hit the ground running. Rattlesnake was released early this year, along with a theatrical live show betraying her broader musical intentions with the songs.

胸が躍る。 それは彼ら The Lumineers の音楽を形容するのにピッタリな言葉。 このブログで彼らの曲を和訳したのはずいぶん前のこと… ( 【The Lumineers / Sleep On The Floor】 和訳 Resemble Morning Soap Opera!

Kate “Rattlesnake Kate” Slaughterback (yes, that’s her real last name!)
Katherine (McHale) Slaughterback was born near Longmont, Colorado on July 25, 1894. She was a nurse during World War II, and after the war she made her living farming on the eastern plains of Colorado. She also held a variety of odd jobs over the years, including taxidermist, midwife, and bootlegger. Kate Slaughterback was married and divorced six times and had one child, a son named Ernie Adamson.
Neyla Pekarek (cellist of the Lumineers) is touring Rattlesnake Kate’s story over America as a Folk Opera.
