Nightports w/ Tom Herbert is the third in a series of collaborative albums, following Nightports with Matthew Bourne in 2018 and Nightports with Betamax in 2020. It sees musician-producers Adam Martin and Mark Slater team up with Tom Herbert, who made his name as the bass player in Mercury Music Prize-nominated bands Polar Bear and The Invisible. Nightports and Tom Herbert demonstrate the versatility of the double bass. Herbert’s articulate melodic lines are one of the most compelling elements on the album because of the emotional resonance they evoke.

im normally so critical of nazisploitation movies, bc most of them refuse to deal in any way w systematic extermination, starvation & actual nazi ideology (basically anything that had to do w the holocaust at all), which im partially grateful for ngl. i rlly dont think an ilsa she wolf of the ss film or the beast in heat would in any way do a good job depicting any part of the shoah. but the fact that the title sequence of a in a glass cage already deliberately shows and references all this is def a mark in its favour

Oh yeah, since I forgot it earlier: here is a link to my take on a Goncharov soundtrack album on Spotify. Essentially I took @caramiaaddio's fantastic main theme (which is on Spotify) and searched for music that is similar enough to it to give a coherent end result.

So it's largely Russian piano music, with a bit of Erik Satie thrown in, with Japan's wonderfully Goncharovian "Nightporter"wrapping it up as the only vocal track. (Okay, there's one Gary Numan instrumental after that since he was a lot into gangsters at one point so he would have liked Goncharov had it existed).
