No one runs to the Outer Ring. You run from something else, trip, stumble, and wind up flat on your ass on cracked asphalt, baking in the sun. From there, you've got two choices - lay there til the dust covers you up or pick yourself up and keep heading down the road.

Out here, you don't ask. Lighter likes it that way. Less trouble. You had blown in one day with your bags under your arms, hopped right out the back of Steel Tusk, and that was that. Piper had given a lazy introduction while you bustled past her, hauling supplies out the back before you found a place to put your own things.

You settled in just fine in Blazewood. He suspects you made it off savings for a bit. When you were fresh off the boat, you'd been eager to help, to prove you could carry your weight - first to declare you could pitch in, awkward when negotiating payment.

That changed quick when you found your place in town. The second you decided this was where you were putting your roots down was the second you left your best behavior behind. Now they had you, warts and all. Must have run through your savings, too, because your rates went up and you'd stopped turning down tips.

He's doesn't ask, but he wonders.

You're on the periphery of his mind more than he realizes. All these observations keep piling up - and no matter what Lucy says or how Caesar's eyes light up when you drop into the booth next to him, it's just friendly. He notices little stuff about everyone.

One night, Burnice sloshes over with her hands full of nitro-fuel, squeezing into the booth next to you - which makes you lean into him, which presses him into the wall, which makes you plant your hand on his thigh, fingers curling into the material, pressing, making him picture the divots in his skin, the way he would yield to your touch and –

That's how Trouble started. Capital T, looks like you - talks like you, too. Leaves your scent hanging in every room, has his head on a swivel. He doesn't bother denying it anymore.

You'd offered to help him with his scarf, save him the trouble of pricking his finger by threading the needle for him. Maybe you've been eyeing him the same way he's been watching you. You knew better than to try to take the task over entirely, had clarified upfront that wasn't your intention.

Just come over, you'd said. Bring his stuff by, and you'd help. You look surprised when he actually knocks on your door, (to be honest, he's surprised too) but you step out onto the porch with a pitcher of water and beckon for him to take a seat.

(It's a creaky old rocking chair; one you'd pulled from a hollow with Piper not too long ago. He'd walked up on you trying to beat the dust out of the cushion with little success. Lighter had been drafted to the cause the moment his boot hit the bottom stair. Now, sitting in that same chair and twisting his scarf back and forth over his hands, his stomach warms with the domestic touch.)

Lighter's little sewing kit must look pretty pitiful to you, but he balances it on a thigh and plucks the needle from the crevice it's hiding in. Don't start, he wants to say. It's all a mess and he knows it is, nothing stored properly - hell, he doesn't know what half of this is even for.

"It's hard to do with gloves.” You wink, fingers brushing his when you take the needle from him.

The words dry up. He pours himself a glass of water and rocks back.

He's no good at this.

Every touch lingers. You don't mean it to, but he can feel the heat soak through layers of leather, fingerprints searing into his skin. His heart's in his throat, teeth clenched. He winds his scarf across his hands again and again, runs the fabric against the worn leather palms of his gloves.

"Do you care if I put it in my mouth?"

Lighter's brain sizzles, a cracked egg on the hood of a hot truck. He's so grateful for his sunglasses, grateful you can't see the way his eyes shoot to your lips. Perfect smile pressing them together, that glossy sheen has got to be honey sweet, saccharine enough to make his stomach turn in the evening heat.

All he can do in return is stammer out 'uh', like some sort of old civilization caveman.

"The thread? Like - so I can thread it? It's easier if you wet it. I can use the water if that's weird."

"No," he says, too quick. "It's cool."

In reality, it takes you all of five seconds. You wet the thread, close an eye and tilt your head, and with one fluid motion the needle is threaded. You hand it back to him with a flourish. No blood, no nausea rising in his gut.

“That's it?” He asks, incredulous.

You nod and lean back in your chair, arms propped up behind you.

“That's it. Oh– here.” You fish something out of your pocket, small and shiny in your palm. “Try this. Gotta take the gloves off, though.”

There's a thimble in his little sewing kit, but he'd never found a use for it. Even when he sets it over his glove, this fits better. Had you stared at his hands before, silently measuring - or was this just a really good guess?

That's a good way to torment himself, coming up with questions like that. You're not like him, don't spin every little thing into something it's not. He says his thanks and starts to stand, rocking chair creaking in protest.

“You can do it here, if you want,” you say, words jumbling together. You shift your weight, tuck a leg up under yourself and look off to the setting sun. “The whole – thing. In case you need me to thread it again.”

Don't get your hopes up, he tells himself, even when you get up to turn the porch light on for him - even when you brush your hand against his shoulder, push the faintest bit and your touch pleads stay.

Lighter sinks back down. He peels a glove off and caps his finger with the thimble. The creaking of the rocker melts into the background of Blazewood. It gets cold out here when the sun goes down, but he doesn't need to remind you of that anymore. You sit with him while he closes up the seams bloodlessly. The night feels just a bit warmer.

Okay so I've got a confession.

Writing alone isn't my favorite medium, it's actually drawing and I've been ITCHING to pull out my tablet again!

I decided to take on drawing challenge for my OCs. Starting with the first one that had a proper name. Will post link to his original ask when I have the energy to dig for it.

Ithio had a really nebulous appearance in the ask he came from, but I always imagined there was reason he didn't remove his helmet when finally talking with his Bird of Paradise.

And when I was doing my design for him the other features just felt right.

He's self conscious about how his favorite patron would view his mutations and his battle damage. (They think he looks cute and cool but shhhh, he doesn't know that.)

And again though it was only implied, Ithio and his brothers are chaos mutated. They're not just Emperor's Children, they're Noise Marines.

Which makes their territory being a loud popular skating rink make more sense. They are also very protective of the place, and its patrons.

Which is part of the reason Ithio got so attached to his little Bird of Paradise, it's already in his mind that he should protect and nurture beautiful things so they reach their full potential.

As for his tail, I imagine he can hide that with Chaos glamour, or the idea I prefer, wrapping it around himself inside his armor.

When his horns stick out, they just look like helmet decor.

His pauldron art was originally a regular winged serpent. His Bird of Paradise and him collaborated on the new design. Guess where they got the inspo. :)

i know this looks like nothing to those who don't know but for me this is the culmination of my slaving away for 3 days lmao the homebrew i'm running, gbarunner3, is a virtual machine that uses the GBA hardware in DS Mode to run GBA games with a higher layer of customization and access to traditional DS hardware. an example of something similar that comes to mind is Nintendont, the gamecube loader for Wii. Technically speaking, the vWii on the Wii U is also this concept, albeit underutilized.

anyway, it's intended to run ROMs off the SD card exclusively. Meaning that it cannot run actual cartridges. I wanted to use my pokemon carts alongside gbarunner3's wireless emulation to facilitate wireless adapter features without having the more expensive GBA hardware and peripherals, for an example.

i spent the last few days learning a bit of how the DS hardware and the codebase works, and trying to implement the option of using actual hardware than only ROMs off the SD card.

the DS only has 4mb of memory! and most GBA ROMs are between 8mb-32mb. how gbarunner3 gets the ROM loaded, is that it has 1mb worth of cached ROM loaded at a time and dynamically loads a ROM region based on when the game's code needs to access it. learning how to deal with memory in the context of the SLOT2 data bus in a codebase designed around SD card caching...

It was very annoying! I had no way to debug anything other than forcing a crash to tell when I got a certain result. it effectively was trial and error for hours and hours of blind crash debugging. the dev of gbarunner3 uses an IS-Nitro development kit to do his debugging. I didn't have that lmao

this is me oversimplifying everything incredibly because it's very hard to describe but i'm very proud of it. i'm sure it looks like nothing from an outsider's perspective though but i think it opens the gateway for some cool features that you'd otherwise have to use digital-only ROMs for.

I have a lot more to do but the fact i got this far on a whim is really neat!

Hello there! I'm doing my own ‘Genetically Accurate Warrior Cats’ thing, but starting with Dawn of the Clans. So here we have my Quiet Rain design! Mother to Gray Wing, Skystar, Jagged Peak, and Fluttering Bird. As the start of the family tree, her design isn't changed. The next design will be my idea of what their father would look like.

Drawing Info

Some other info about the design—specifically the genetics—I gave Quiet Rain a dominant mutation represented by ‘Tp.’ It always results in blue eyes and white fur that grows from the nose. She is also carrying the Carnelian gene, a co-dominant allele that results in more brown/golden coloring. You can't see it in her design, but you will in Fluttering Bird since her sprite design in the Warriors wiki is very goldish-brown imo and I thought it would be fun to incorporate.

Oh, Quiet Rain is also silver! It explains her more smoky-gray appearance and allows me to make her not be a tabby. The silver gene only reveals her hidden stripes, which turn into spots due to her high spotting gradient (something that will show up in Jagged Peak). This gene also allows for her son, Gray Wing, to be a smoke. This gene also shows up in her grandkids!

I am by no means an expert, and take many creative liberties. I tend to include lots of mutations and such to make characters as accurate as possible, and I definitely misunderstand lots of the genes lol.

CHAPTER O2: BACKSTORY

mya is one of two girls in a town that she felt like was in the middle of nowhere and was a completely deadbeat city. no one cool actually comes from delaware and if there was, they never repped the state hard enough to make a difference. both of her parents were somewhat traditional with the idea that girls should stay at home and look after their children and boys are allowed to go outside and get dirty, however with having two girls, it was proven a little bit difficult to maintain that mindset. her parents, especially her father, always wanted sons but got mya and her older sister instead. this then led to mya being exposed to cars. everything mya knew about cars came from her father & her uncles from the shop. the only thing she is grateful for about delaware is the car culture. it wasn't heavily saturated with JDM builds like other cities may have. delaware was more focused on american made cars which is what mya is more familiar with. her mother disapproved of mya's growing interest in cars and mechanics in general and wanted mya to be more proactive in areas that didn't require mya's clothes to be stained with engine oil and grease underneath her fingernails. however, that wasn't mya's style. mya wasn't afraid to get down and dirty and she had always been that way since she was four.

mya was introduced to street racing, JDM builds, customisation and American mods through one of her guy friends who had posters of import models on his bedroom wall during her third year of college.

mya was hooked after her first street race.

CHAPTER O3: HEADCANONS

✧ mya became interested in cars when she turned 4 as the loud noises and the sudden gear shift movements in trucks would make her squeal and entertain her in the backseat. ✧ mya got her nickname growing up as she has always stated that she is a tomboy through and through. because of her constant announcement of being a "tomboy", people then just started to tease her as 'lil tommy', short for tomboy. ✧ because mya is stubborn and can be a little bit of a know-it-all when it comes to cars, she is the most annoying backseat driver ✧ mya oddly enough got her license extremely late compared to others. she didn't get her license until she was 22. she was too busy in the shop to practise driving and getting her license. ✧ mya and her dad have a project car that they work on together whenever mya visits home. ✧ mya basically forced herself to get into narzia bois, being almost too obnoxious and loud mouth for her own good. ✧ one of mya's favourite modifications is changing the lightbulbs of a car's tail light. she loves rewiring them to flash into different shapes such as a heart or a star. ✧ mya has a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering with honours at florida state university.

CHAPTER O4: OPEN PLOTS

i. since mya practically forced herself into the crew. your muse can be the one that she constantly bugged and nagged for a chance to be apart of the team. very tom&jerry vibes, but deep down inside, you know that mya was a good addition; you weren't going to admit that out loud though. ii. mya works as a mechanic just in general, so customers would be great! customers from the other crew??? just because mya is that good and fast??? and yet it makes it seem like mya is fraternizing with the enemy when really she is just here to make a bag. iii. JDM vs. american muscle. because mya has always been surrounded by american muscle cars, she is still learning her footing around JDM builds. that doesn't mean though that she is completely stupid about them. maybe your muse and her constantly get into fights about which exactly is the better car. maybe an impromptu race helps to settle the score? it never does. iv. mya is a loud mouth and sometimes she truly does need to be kept on a leash. however her words and threats come from a place of knowing her worth and knowing the crew's worth. your muse is the one who keeps her in line; someone she trusts not to lash out on her when she lashes out first. The Plague Witch with the Cauldron Full of Love - 1

Behold! The Result of the art bugs I mentioned when @kit-williams did that Typhus fic with the plague witch. I actually sketched four pages from it and this is the first!

Getting this done was a Special kind of Slannesh torture plain as I had to run up against our power going out multiple times. I wanted to badly to execute on the sketches I did but the weather WOULDN'T LET ME!!!

Anyway the description of the witch from the story is what got the juices flowin. I loved the idea of a lower back mouth, and the bells. The only thing I missed was the hair, but that was more leaning into the bald reader/viewer insert I've seen in other art of that nature.

In my next renders I might add minor features here and there, but we'll see.

I decided to do two versions of the bottom pic as I loved the nurgle garden background but it Was a little busy.

Most of the process came from the color palette. Just swapping, picking, and pulling my hair out to get to a good one.

I will say this palette ended up kinda just coming to me...until I realized why I found it working...And why I felt the design needed more teeth.

Even outside the game I have no respite from...the hungry pickle dragon.
