NoMae Week 2024 Day 5 Fairytale

Summary: On a quest for more books, Noa and Mae find themselves at Proximus' abandoned kingdom where they spend a night at Trevathan's library reading anything they can get their hands on. Everything was going well, until Noa finds a book filled with fairytales of humans and animals falling in love with each other.

My contribution to NoMae week. I love this ship so much, and it has been lovely seeing what everyone else is sharing. From art, edits, fanfics, and music videos, you are all so talented! 💕

Title: Woman Chapers: 1/3 Fandom: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Pairing: Noa x Mae Summary: When he thought of her, he saw vast meadows and hills, mountains and distant lands. He saw human ruins hiding mysteries or great discoveries, images printed on papers as if they could capture the soul of those who had created them, strange and terribly powerful weapons or thousands of words hidden in unintelligible symbols that seemed to conceal the truth of the world. Through her memory, Noa felt he could go beyond the limits of his village, that he was riding a horse again and venturing into the unknown, that beyond looking at the stars, he could dive headfirst into them. Author's Note: A three-shot of Nomae because I haven't written in a while and I really wanted to. Quite introspective and perhaps a little spicy in the last chapter. I hope you enjoy it, I don't know how to make cool videos for TikTok so this is my contribution to the fandom lol This fic is named afther Billy Joe's song "She's always a woman" bc i think is very Nomae coded. I've include some in the beginning of the chapter.

On Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape (HBO Harry Potter)

As HBO's Harry Potter series rolls into pre-production - a sentence that, ten years ago, would have undoubtedly brought me extreme joy but in 2024 simply makes me regret the money that will be flowing into anti-trans politicians' bank accounts because of it - casting rumors have started to leak out.

The first of these is that I May Destroy You's Paapa Essiedu is being courted for a role as Severus Snape. As a former ardent Harry Potter enjoyer, I have several things I would like to say about this, and will do so in the form of a likely incohesive yet numbered list.

I've never personally seen Essiedu's work, but I hear that he is an exceptionally talented and charismatic actor, and I wish him well.

Unfortunately, I will likely be judgmental of any actor who decides to condone JKR's bigotry and ongoing wealth by signing on to this project.

I'm enthusiastic (or would be, if I could be enthusiastic about HBO HP to begin with) about the idea of introducing more actors of color to play Harry Potter characters. I was a long-standing proponent of a WoC Hermione, including the casting of Noma Dumezweni in the unfortunately atrocious Cursed Child, and also of a mixed-race Harry.

I find it interesting that production thinks it is a good idea to cast a handsome Man of Color as a canonically unattractive, prejudiced, perpetually antagonistic, former hate group member who essentially joined the Wizarding version of the KKK and who is mainly remembered as an incel who regularly bullied children, including the child of the (presumably white, though this casting is yet to be seen) woman who was the object of his unwanted affections and for whose murder he was partially responsible.

Severus Snape, of course, is a complex character who deserves (if any of these characters 'deserve' anything when HBO HP will, again, be funneling money into the pockets of the anti-trans movement in the UK) to have his story told in a nuanced way.

He is still a character who signed up to be a Death Eater, which has always been Harry Potter's allegory for a violent white supremacist hate group.

Time will tell whether this casting will be representative of the series as a whole; that is to say, whether there will be enough actors of color within the show in general so as to make casting a Black actor in this specific role no longer problematic.

Time will also tell whether James Potter and company will be cast as actors of color, or whether the bullying flashback in OotP is about to take on a wholly new implication despite, and I cannot reiterate this enough, Severus Snape being the one who eventually joined the genocidal hate group.

We have yet to see whether the remaining Harry Potter fandom at large reacts to this casting decision with any more grace than racist Lord of the Rings fans did on release of the Rings of Power TV series or Star Wars fans did at any point within the last decade. I hope for Essiedu's sake that the mistakes of the past are not repeated, and wish him peace and protection in the face of the potential onslaught to come.

With the creation of this show obviously already stirring controversy from LGBT advocates, I can't help but wonder if this news has been dropped as a distraction, or even a sacrificial tidbit, so that the ensuing backlash from awful fucking people will allow production to decry any criticism of the new show without having to re-address JKR's ongoing opposition to both science and basic human rights.

Once again, I hope that this is not the case, because Essiedu specifically and indeed all actors from marginalized groups generally deserve much, much better.

happy first day of @nomae-week-2024! i definitely procrastinated on this one, but just use your imagination to fill in the gaps and pretend its purposefully abstract.

Whos your favorite Y/N? Are any of them based on you ? If not, how would your interactions with them go ?

Roo, listen, you just asked me a simple question, and now I’m about to go on a TED Talk because apparently, I cannot answer anything concisely. Buckle up.

So, do I have a favorite Y/N? No. I love them all. They’re all complex, and I put a lot of thought into their personalities, backstories, and how they navigate their worlds. I don’t do cookie-cutter female leads—I don’t have a copy-paste personality that I just slap into different settings. If you’ve read more than one of my fics, you’ll know that my Y/Ns are very different from each other.

Take Kkangpae and Fuck Me Up Y/Ns, for example. At first glance, they seem similar—they both have sharp tongues and don’t take bullshit—but when you actually look at them, they’re completely different. Phoenix (FMU Y/N) is impulsive, immature, and a little reckless, which makes sense because she’s coming from a controlled environment. This is her first taste of true independence, and she’s allowing herself to do whatever she wants just because she can. So yeah, sometimes she’s frustrating. That’s the point. She’s messy. I write messy. I write realistic. If my characters frustrate you, good. That means they feel real.

Meanwhile, Kkangpae Y/N? She’s not like that. She’s emotionally intelligent. She knows when to push and when to back off. She understands that some things aren’t worth the battle. If Jeon tells her no, she listens. That’s the difference. Phoenix pokes and prods just to see what happens, but Kkangpae Y/N moves with intent. And that’s why I probably relate to her the most. She’s quick-witted, sarcastic, and she’s got strong boundaries, which is something I highly value. I would 100% vibe with her.

Now, the hardest Y/N for me to write? Hands down, The 25th Hour Y/N (Noma). She’s so analytical and intelligent, and my brain is just… not like that. My thoughts are all over the place. She’s methodical, logical, and incredibly detail-oriented, while I have to force myself to stay on track when I write her. That being said, I do relate to her curiosity—she needs to understand things, and she’ll go to great lengths to do so, which I admire. But overall, she’s just on a different wavelength from me, and that makes writing her a challenge.

As for my interactions with them?

• Kkangpae Y/N? We’d be besties. We see eye to eye.

• SATMH Y/N? I respect her ambition and maturity, but I think we’d clash because we’re both strong-willed. We’d make a killer duo in group projects, though—unstoppable force meets immovable object energy.

• FMU Y/N? I’d enjoy her mess from a safe distance. She’d be that friend who’s always texting me about the stupid shit she got into, and I’d be like, girl, why are you like this?

• OL Y/N? I’d like her, but I wouldn’t get too close. She needs a lot of reassurance, and I don’t have the emotional energy to be someone’s full-time therapist. I’ve been the “fixer” friend before, and I’m not doing that again.

• 25H Y/N, Noma? I’d be intrigued by her, but I don’t think we’d be close. She’s too logical, and I get disappointed when people aren’t emotionally perceptive. Like, if you can’t read a room, I’m not explaining it to you.

At the end of the day, all my Y/Ns have a little piece of me in them. It’s inevitable. As much as I try to make them distinct, I’m still writing from my own perspective. Some have my impulsiveness, some have my sarcasm, some have my deep-seated need to overanalyze everything. They’re all just different shades of me, scattered across different personalities and stories.

Anyway, this turned into an essay. I hope that answers your question lmao.

Taylor began studying haute cuisine under the tutelage of famous European chefs, traveling abroad to hone his skills further and even taking stage positions in places like Noma, Geranium and El celler de can roca.

All of it, while continuing to record new musical projects independently; slowly but surely, Taylor had started to establish himself in the culinary world through guest stints on TV cooking shows and food/wine events around the world.

With his brooding good looks, a charming personality, and serious culinary chops, the world fell for Taylor’s new sophisticated image. Before long, the curly haired man was the subject of breathless puff pieces in food magazines as "the sexiest Renaissance man in the kitchen.", so it seemed only natural when Taylor soon opened up his passion project 'Lagom' to capitalize on his popularity and love of food.

Now nearing her early thirties, Hayley’s fannish obsession had cooled into more of an admiring celebrity crush. She had stayed aware of Taylor’s journey, but the tiny redhead’s priorities had been entirely focused on graduating culinary school at the top of her class and finding her own big break in the Chicago restaurant scene.

So when she had landed a job at Taylor’s iconic Lagom restaurant, it almost didn't feel real. Not only would she be working at one of the city's most exclusive spots, but under the same roof as a chef she had admired for ages.

Not that Hayley expected to have any real personal contact with Taylor himself, the tiny redhead reminds herself as she emerges onto the exit for downtown. He was an internationally famous megacelebrity who had to have hundreds of staffers, not to mention being handsomely paid to just be the smiling face of the business while professional kitchen vets like Sydney Adamu handled the day-to-day operations.

Still, she has to admit to herself that a tiny part of her tingles at the mere idea of being in the same building as Taylor York...hopefully catching a glimpse of that handsome, endlessly charming man in the flesh...

Hayley shakes her head dismissively and double checks the directions again, annoyed at getting so easily distracted. This was her big break, her first serious job in the industry.

She needs to bring her A-game and focus, not dwell on silly celebrity daydreams.

I can’t quite describe how peaceful Noma is. The garden is on the bank of a canal in the urban-rural area, with multiple greenhouses and flower beds, a herb garden, plant garden and even two bee houses. I peeked inside the restaurant and it looked very fancy.

The garden is accessible, and in one of the green houses, there’s currently Noma Project Pop-up, where you can taste and buy some products to use when cooking at home, as well as a really cool tote bag and a book.

I bought the tote back (might show here later) and a Rhubarb Tamari (it’s a savoury reduction that will be nice mainly in salads!) 🥗

I love gardens and greenhouses so I had hoped I would be able to get in 🥰
