One Card A Day Tarot Reading

Day 24

Date: 1-24-25

Deck: Normal Tarot

Intention: What do I want?

Card: The Masquerade/ The Courteous King

Imagery: Two people, one dressed in dark red and black, the other in white, dance with each other in a room of other figured in shadow. They, and all the people behind them, wear bird-themed masks. / A king, fat and bald but also magnificently bearded and laughing, sits holding a drinking horn. A yellow puff of smoke shaped like a skull indicates the drink is poisoned.

First impression: The Masquerade jumped the deck while I was shuffling so I decided to read it with the King for funsies. I still haven't played with this deck enough to get a good initial read but my first thoughts were something about secrets and whether or not the King knows he's about to be poisoned.

Guidebook says: Hidden meanings, dreams, illusions, the subconscious. The Masquerade can be a peek behind the curtain of the self. When given true anonymity, the roles we choose to assume can reveal quite a bit about who we are. / Tragedy and compassion, kindness, hospitality, mercy. Some consider this card to be the most dire of the Dead Kings, a punishment for kindness, compassion being taken advantage of, others consider his fate to be the most merciful. [...] Consider how compassion at one's own expense can be the right thing to do. The key word being "can".

Second impression: The Masquerade invites us to take a closer look at the King, and of course myself. This is a guy that knows only that he's having a good time. I want the party, not the poison. I want my kindness to go unpunished.

Evening reflection: I really like this deck but it intimidates me a little bit. It's a weird relationship to have with a deck of cards

so my partner gave me the Normal Tarot deck (and accompanying book) a bit ago and today I decided to give it a whirl. I've never really done tarot readings so I'm not coming into it with a ton of assumptions or preconceived notions, which I figure can only be an advantage. I looked through the book to familiarize myself with the vibe and how to do a reading and then shuffled the deck. I decided my first question would be: "hi, I'm introducing myself. what can I expect from working with you?"

I recently got the third edition of the Normal Tarot. To celebrate this and help me practice, I would like to do some readings for people. However, because of limited energy, I can only guarantee to respond to the first 5 comments.

One Card A Day Tarot Reading

Day 13

Date: 1-13-25

Deck: The Normal Tarot, made by our own local occultist @/cryptotheism

Intention: What downsides do I need to consider?

Card: The Frozen King

Imagery: A king in royal garb sitting beside a table. He has a somewhat skeletal face, a black nose like frostbite, and icicles hanging from his grand mustache. One hand rests below a glass of wine, but he isn't exactly holding it. His head is tipped back, and he is looking to the side with half-open eyes.

First impression: He's from the series of kings in this deck's major arcana. A cold heart? Metaphorically "freezing up" due to fear?

Guidebook says: Tragedy and stagnation, grief, denial, decay. The Frozen King is unable to move on, unable to overcome the difficulty of what they face. Some read the Frozen King as hopelessness. This is not entirely accurate; the meaning of this card is closer to that if a prolonged bout of depression or an inability to grieve. To thaw the Frozen King, one requires the warmth of acceptance.

Second impression: Just making this choice alone may not be enough to reignite me. I will still have to face my stagnation; that doesn't mean I chose wrong.

Evening reflection: Guess we're gonna find out pretty quick, huh?

Cardinal Card Reading August 31st 2024

#Core-II-of-Wands: The inspiration, the drive, it is born and screeching for use. Do not give up this momentum, whatever inspiration or muse speaks to you, grasp it tight and follow its guidance.

#Woe-The-Waxing-Gibbous: There will be difficulties, there will be setbacks, but to quit is the only way to absolutely fail. Grit your teeth and continue on this path, there is no promise of success, but you must continue.

#Weal-The-Omphalion-Reversed: Succeed or fail, this is not the end of the world, the greatest of travesties would be not trying at all. Yes disappointment might brew within, but you will learn important lessons from this endeavo regardless.

#Within-Reverse-V-of-Swords: Pick your battles, while it might seem necessary to become someone wholly new, this is not something you can simply do without some often times cataclysmic change in one’s life. Be steady, be discerning in what you choose to tackle and change. Take it one step at a time and evolve into that new you you wish to be.

#Without-Reverse-VIII-Strength: It’s all crumbling down around us, I wish I could say things aren’t as bad as they seem but that would be a lie. Just remember you are not Atlas, you cannot and have no responsibility to hold up the world entire. This is not to say ignore it entirely, but merely, focus your scope. Devote time to the things and people you can tangible help in your vicinity. Every little bit helps.

It’s time for something new, strike while the iron is hot, and work on whatever has caught your interest. Not to change the world, but merely because it brings you joy, and if that brightens the day of those around you? Well then that’s just a happy bonus.
