THE DESCRIPTION OF OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR The Patroness of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana Feast Day: January 8
The French Ursuline nuns first arrived in Louisiana in 1727. The nuns established a convent and founded what is the oldest school for girls in the territory of the modern-day U.S., Ursuline Academy, which educated the children of European colonists, Native Americans, and those of the local Creole people, slave or free. The Spanish sisters came to assist the growing school in 1763 after Louisiana fell under Spanish control.
In 1800, the territory came back under French possession, and in 1803, most of the sisters, fearing the anti-clerical sentiment of the French Revolution, fled to Havana, Cuba. When Louisiana passed into the control of the United States, the sisters sent the President a letter asking if their property rights would be honored by the new government.
Short of teachers, Mother Saint Andre Madier requested sisters from France to come to America to aid the struggling convent. She wrote to her cousin, Mother Saint Michel Gensoul, who was running a Catholic girls boarding school in France at the time. The Catholic Church was suffering the wrath of the revolution under Napoleon. Mother Saint Michel, knowing that the Church was in distress in both her homeland and abroad, approached Bishop Fournier of Montpelier to request a transfer. Bishop Fournier felt unable to afford the loss of another nun, as many had been killed or fled during the revolution, and advised Mother St. Michel that only the Pope could give this authorization.
Pope Pius VII was a prisoner of Napoleon at the time, and Mother St. Michel knew the unlikelihood of the Pope even receiving her letter. She prayed before a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and said: "O most Holy Virgin Mary, if you obtain for me a prompt and favorable answer to this letter, I promise to have you honored at New Orleans under the title of Our Lady of Prompt Succor."
Sending her petition on March 19, 1809, Mother St. Michel received a letter from the Pope Pius VII granting her request on April 29, 1809. Mother St. Michel commissioned a statue of the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus. The workman carved her flowing robes so that she would appear to be moving quickly. Bishop Fournier blessed the statue and Mother St. Michel's work.
Many miracles have been attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Two historical events are especially associated with the Virgin. The first occurred in 1812 during the eruption of a great fire in New Orleans devastating the Vieux Carré. The Ursuline convent was facing imminent destruction as the winds blew the terrible fire toward the Plaza de Armas.
An order was given to evacuate the convent, however at that moment, a nun named Sr. St. Anthony (Marthe Delatre, daughter of Antoine Delatre) placed a small statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor on a window seat and Mother St. Michel began to pray aloud, "Our Lady of Prompt Succor, we are lost unless you hasten to our aid!"
The second major miracle occurred in 1815, three years after the disastrous fire. General Andrew Jackson's 6,000 American troops faced 15,000 British soldiers on the plains of Chalmette. On the eve of the Battle of New Orleans, New Orleans residents joined the Ursuline sisters at their convent in the French Quarter to pray throughout the night, imploring the help of Our Lady of Prompt Succor.
On the morning of January 8, the Very Rev. William Dubourg, Vicar General, offered Mass at the altar on which the statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor had been placed. Cannon fire could be heard from the chapel. The Prioress of the Ursuline convent, Mother Ste. Marie Olivier de Vezin, made a vow to have a Mass of Thanksgiving sung annually should the American forces win. At the very moment of communion, a courier ran into the chapel to inform all those present that the British had been defeated. They had become confused by a fog and wandered into a swamp.
The Mass ended with the singing of the Te Deum, and an annual Mass of Thanksgiving has been held January 8 ever since.
Pious believers of New Orleans pray before the statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, asking for her intercession whenever a hurricane threatens the city. During hurricane season, prayers are said at every Mass in the city during the Prayers of the Faithful requesting Our Lady of Prompt Succor's intercession and protection. After Hurricane Katrina, prayers were made to Our Lady of Prompt Succor asking for the quick recovery of the damaged city and surrounding area.
On June 13, 1928 - the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, Pope Pius XI declared the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Prompt Succor as the Patroness of Louisiana.

It took a few days of walking, cycling, and driving around Montréal before Leah and I found our bearings from atop Mont Royal. We roamed the rues and parcs of the city in search of historic, cultural, and architectural significance–with an emphasis on good food…and we found it in many of the neighborhoods we visited. All Saints’ Day
All Saints’ Day is a Christian festival [actually a Catholic holiday] that honors saints, and also celebrates the victory of Christ over death. The definition of saints and those who are being honored on the day are often looked at differently in Catholic and various Protestant churches.
In the Catholic Church, the day is seen as honoring saints that don’t have their own day of celebration. Many Protestants use the day to honor all Christians, both past and present. The day takes place on November 1 in Western churches in Europe and the Americas, such as in Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, and some other Protestant churches. It is part of the Roman Rite in the Catholic Church and is a Principal Feast in the Anglican Church. It takes place a day before All Souls’ Day and a day after All Hallows’ Eve, commonly known as Halloween. Many Eastern churches observe the day on the first Sunday after Pentecost. The day begins with Vespers on All Hallows’ Eve, and the days’ observation lasts for the duration of November 1. In some congregations, a candle is lit or a bell is rung, and the names of congregants who have passed away in the previous year are read. Other prayers and readings may take place on the day. Various customs take place in different countries, such as offerings being made and graves being visited. It is a national holiday in some countries that are predominantly Catholic, but it is not in the United States. The roots of the day go back to the early Christian church. In the late fourth or early fifth century, days dedicated to all saints began being celebrated.
These days were held on different dates in different places. An All Saints’ Day began being celebrated in the British Isles at the beginning of the eighth century, possibly along with or to replace Samhain, a Celtic festival. However, some believe the choice of November 1 for the date was a Germanic idea, not being tied to the Celtic holiday. In 835 CE, Pope Gregory IV officially set the date of the holiday to November 1. After the Reformation, many churches that broke off from the Catholic Church continued to celebrate the day. In some of these churches, it is not always celebrated exactly on November 1, instead being observed on a Saturday or Sunday near it.All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day, All Hallows Tide, Feast of All Saints, Hallowmas, and Solemnity of All Saints, is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on November 1st.
If you are of the Christian faith, you could observe the day by attending a church service and visiting graves of loved ones who have since passed. There are various other ways the day could be observed, such as by having an All Saints’ Day party or learning about saints. If you are not religious, you could still have an All Saints’ Day party and eat some traditional foods associated with the day.

Hi, everyone!
I want to share my ML's OC with you; I prepared this little card. Hope you like it <3 I'll appreciate any correction to my English and any other kind of interaction! . . .
Name: Beulah Debois, née David. AKA: Mircalla, la Comtesse (by Vladimir), Notre-Dame de Bon Secours (ironically, by Beliath). Pronouns: She/her.
General information: Birthday: 7 April. Age: +/- 250 years old. Species: vampire.
Apperiance: Hair color: cherry red. Eye color: light brown. Height: 1.69 cm.
Description: A tall and sturdy woman, olive skinned. She has a long face, thin eye-brows, an aquiline nose. Her long wavy hair is partially covered by a veil; she usually wears a tight dress with long sleeves and lace details. A jewel-belt underlines her breasts. On her fingers has multiple rings and she has a necklace. Her claws are black. If it’s possible, she walks barefoot.
Personality: Beulah hides a passionate heart and a strong will behind polite, antiquate manners. Rumors (see: Beliath) say she is the real leader of the Manor and Vladimir just a puppet-king, but she doesn't seem interested in disproving them.
How she became a vampire: Born in the eighteenth century in a french-ebrew family, Beulah lived the tumultuous time of the French Revolution and the repression of the Reign of Terror.  She and her lover, a girondin gentile man, received a death sentence for corruption. While the man was executed, Beulah managed to escape and, thanks to the apparition of a dark creature, to achieve freedom.  But at what cost.
Life at the Manor: She settled in right after Vladimir. Her apartments remind of a Parisian showroom, with tons of newspaper, questionable knick-knacks and a bridge table. She loves strolling in the garden. It's unusual to see her in common rooms alone.
Gender&Sexuality: She is a trans* heterosexual woman and she is monogamous. At the moment she prefers one night stands over other types of intimacy.
Relationships: Aaron: they don't have much in common but they genuinely respect each other. They sometimes fuck.  Beliath: the party animal is the one Beulah hangs out with the most. No one understands why, no one asks.  Ethan: they share the same air and that's enough for both.  Ivan: the young vampire is too scared of himself and the older vampire is not «interested in this kind of education» to have a civil conversation.  Neil: Beulah has feelings towards him but her pride doesn't allow her to be direct about them.  Raphael: Beluah despises him and Raphael seems very proud of it.  Vladimir: the only one allowed to enter Beulah's apartments. They have tea, chit-chats and discussions about the gestion of the Manor.
Bonus: Eloise/MC. At first very disappointed by her appearance, Beulah tends to avoid Eloise and acts politely cold towards her. Now you can see them going to Moondance, playing the piano and chilling near the fireplace together.
Trivia: > She bought the Countess title «as a little treat».  > She is divorced. If you ask her about it, she'll answer «Marrying was my worst choice but I would do it again and again», but will not say a word about her ex-husband.  > Mircalla is the anagram of Carmilla, which is one of her favorite novels. She uses this name when she introduces herself to new people. The painting is Madame Tallien, J. Launeville, 1796.
