Pretty please, an AU where Manual is a descendant of one of the past holders and hiding from AFO.

My most special-ist boyyyy

1- ok so, Second's quirk is the most based in telekinesis and he's got red brown hair with an undercut even, so I think he's a shoe in for the connection here. Plus, I don't think AfO would really care to hunt down like, Banjo's great great great grand kids or whatever, but Second's? Yeah...

Ok so Manual is Second's great grand nephew, the descendant of Second's older sibling, who was also in the freedom fighter group though less for action. Second led on the field, and his sibling led in information gathering- they actually got the Intel that lead to busting into the vault and getting Yoichi out.

2- so... With that reason for Manual to still be firmly in "AfO's 'crush with great prejudice' list", let's say down the line the telekinesis quirks get mixed with his grandma's water quirk on the other side, and Manual figures that his grandpa's stories about the crazy ancient boogyman that hates their family and would kill them all are just that- crazy stories.

Until one day in middle school, and he gets the news that on that side of the family there was a kidnapping, a house fire, and a train crash that took out all those cousins on the same day.

3- Masaki gets sent to the other side of the family to hide, and the thing about this guy is he's smart, and he's kind, and he just wants to help people. So he's going to be a hero, because - well, if AfO finds him, better to be able to fight back, right? And better to have helped other people first if he's gonna get brutally killed, than just hide, right?

His grandma sighs, says she'll sign the papers for the hero school, and they go back to weeding in her garden

4- Manual believes in hiding in audacity. His brightly colored hero costume covers most of his body and his hair, so even if he looks like whatever ancestor pissed off a demon villain au much, his appearance won't give him away. He knows his water quirk won't, and so sticks to that- even though he's perfectly capable of other things like bloodbending, nothing to make his quirk look appealing to someone who can steal it. And he even calls himself the normal hero because surely no one who is actively hiding from afo would do that.

5- the reason Manual keeps showing up in places you don't think he would in Vigs is because he's in involving himself- being nice and networking to be included in as many meetings and case briefings as possible in order to keep an ear out for AfO - and so he can pull back at the first sign of him. As soon as he realizes who's behind the Villain Factory, he pulls out and makes sure he isn't invited to more briefings, and suggests other heroes to Tsukauchi who'd be great to handle it. Tenya accidently making sure Manual wouldn't be involved more in the Hosu investigation of the nomu and league? Manual is so relieved.

That is, until Jakku, but at that point Manual knows there's no avoiding it- and then, what the hell, if AfO is going to finally kill you anyway, the best thing to do is to keep Erasure going against him as long as you possibly can.

now that we’ve all been thoroughly blasted by the Rise movie I can take another stab at being more thoughtful in designing Venus for Rise. 

first, a refresher:

just gonna go full AU divergence, let whoever Big Mama’s Assistant be whoever (after thinking it over, it does sorta seem to more likely it’s Jennika), still gonna keep her start as an initiate, acolyte-adjacent, monk-ish kid running around in the Hidden City, ward to the crow yokai who adopted her as a foundling. 

We never saw who Draxum’s bodyguard was, they were alluded to during a crew discussion only (unless I missed a design reveal somewhere). in the same vein that me and a bunch of others I’ve seen that think Assistant is Jennika based... pretty much on those claws at the end of her hands, then the bodyguard could be mostly likely be Venus. i’m basing that theory on the very very VERY scant information we have from the show, 1) Draxum is adept at the mystic arts from magical item manipulation to summoning to.... I dunno, what do you call it when he set up the memory dive into Splinter’s mind? he can draw magic circles and operate them as seen when he had to move the boys to another memory.

2) dude wears Venus’ signature cyan post-team switch, can’t scream foreshadowing louder than that

3) Draxum straight up opens a portal to another plane to let the Hamatos go in and snatch up sword!Karai, original Venus taught the boys how to dreamwalk and guided them through a dream plane, ehh? ehhhhhh? *eyebrow waggle*

4) to me, the most record scratch, eyebrow quirking part: he uses armored bees just as Venus did in the original Next Mutation show. Venus’ armored bees and Draxum’s both were used to ensnare and trap opponents. though to concede, Venus’ exploded into a sticky goo, Draxum’s apparently auto-dug into the ground and sprouted as vines

the trip up for me in designing is what exactly “Draxum’s bodyguard” means. the first time I thought about it I had imagined as Draxum taking a younger Venus under his wing, teaching her (give or take realizing she was one of his anti-humanity soldier experiments), becoming his protege of sorts, prrrobably committed to his cause, becoming adept enough in both her mystic and physical prowess and takes it upon herself to protect him.. just real wuxia tropey about it.

but like... Draxum’s cool with hiring muscle, re: Garm and Freki so why wouldn’t he also just hire a bodyguard. it would make more sense this way but it depends on some characterization I’m shaky on for Draxum. he believed in his cause enough to go to Optimus, Arcee and Megatron (I forgot what those giant head characters were called only that their VAs voiced those transformers sry kids) for support. after that, I thought that maybe he’d be a little more discerning about who he recruits to bolster his plans which would be a little more lenient to my original idea.

Reason number idk to keep my shot day more consistent (tho tbf i had been doing really well on timing up until last week lmao):

Shot day being off means i get extra weepy over just. anything. everything. My brain looks at anything and goes 'oh yeah, that's like (horrible traumatic memory), you 'member that? Yeah, sure ya do! here's a recap of that particular time for ya too.'

and like??? I am not a fan of it today. i mean i never really am but, I have shit to do rn lmao (dishes and i keep having smutty ed/izzy and nathan/pickles ideas that refuse to actually flow on the page once i open a word doc.)

the gears are turning and i’m getting too excited over what exactly this oc’s breathing style is gonna be based on :’ )) so of the different sword stances in kendo, there’s a stance called waki gamae in which you take a stance that hides the length of your sword from your opponent, exposing only the pommel of the sword. at first glance, it does appear to leave you exposed and vulnerable but!!! according to a very helpful article i found, “ when in waki, your wrists are pulled away and tucked close to the body, making them much more difficult to strike. the chest is turned away, making it a narrower target. all of this invites the opponent to strike at the exposed head. ” you not only have the element of surprise bc your opponent can’t see your sword length or what your hands are doing, but you’ve also limited their targets and thus made their next actions somewhat predictable! or at the very least, you get to take advantage of their hesitation as they try to decide where to strike B)

waki gamae is known as the kamae of metal, so!!! i’m thinking that maybe my oc’s breathing style will be metal bc what’s used to temper metal?? fire!! so metal breathing could be an offshoot of flame breathing that my oc created bc flame breathing’s strictly offensive style just didn’t suit her -- she prefers a little more time to observe and plan, being more cautious and not quite “ fiery ” enough to pull off the techniques with 100% confidence in battle. but being able to take a stance that allows her to narrow down the possible reactions of her opponent and thus feel confident when she switches from a defensive move to an offensive move reminiscent of flame breathing?? hell yeah!!

this may not be 100% clear bc i literally just read up on this and got so excited when i got this idea that i had to immediately gush asdfg and for those of you who didn’t see my post earlier and might be a lil confused, i’m in the process of creating an oc who’s the daughter of hyouka’s flame-breathing teacher. that’s why i want to make the connection of flame breathing influencing her sword techniques!

Y'know I've been so enamored with your time looping Max fanfiction that when I was reading a work for a completely different fandom, I saw the word "marrow" in a sentence and it was like that meme with the monkey and neuron activation. I legitimately muttered under my breath in the privacy of my room: "Is that a polluted marrow reference?!"
