Serves me right for taunting her over her Palace position for all these centuries.  Demerzel should have arrived on the Maiden already. That meant that she would take about four to six hours to settle in - talk to the religious fanatics, stare at the desalination facility construction site, and procure herself the sandy moon’s finest private palace from which she could lick her wounds over being unceremoniously exiled by Day. That had to be all - or was he missing anything? The fact that Obrecht found himself starting a countdown to when he would finally be able to communicate with his colleague was a troubling revelation. It was not that he was unable to prioritise the suddenly expanded scope of his responsibilities to the Cleonic Dynasty. Far from it. He was a professional and more than keen to finally show Demerzel how things were done. Only it had been mere hours, and he already wanted to punch Dusk thrice, and Day was giving him a persistent eye twitch with how needy he had become the moment the imperial ship carrying Demerzel had left Trantor. Obrecht could not believe his ears over the sheer range of matters suddenly requiring his personal - and urgent - attention. Some of the barked orders were as expected - like the full review of Palace security protocols - although he would typically collaborate with the currently departed colleague. Other items on Brother Day’s list of grievances were truly baffling and seemingly unending. Was every Empire like that? He refused to believe it was the case, his mind revolting to think that Brother Dusk would have requested that he find him a new ‘evening reading partner’ with a straight face back when he sat on the middle throne. He could not imagine Demerzel indulging the Twelfth like that, either, but that was a separate matter.

This little exploration into their relationship is set between Chapters 4 and 5 of See You How You Really Are but can be read as a standalone piece if you imagine the following scenario: after the events of Season 1 Episode 10, Brother Day has exiled Demerzel to the Maiden.

1982 Eddie Van Halen defends Diver Down: "They're good f**kin' songs..." (phone interview)

July 30, 1982 — a couple weeks into the tour for Diver Down, Eddie talks to Jas Obrecht for Guitar Player Magazine. Ed talks about the new album and defends all the cover songs ...

"They're good fuckin' songs, why shouldn't they be redone the way we do 'em for a new generation of people" ...

"I don't think any cover tune we've ever done sounds like the original. It takes almost as much time to make a cover tune sound original as it does writing a song. -- so fuck the critics!"

38 years later, couldn't agree more with Eddie. Diver Down is an amazing Van Halen record on par with the others that gets dogged far too often for the cover tunes. A fun, summertime Van Halen extravaganza. A big part of Van Halen was their fun, party vibe and this is their most fun, party vibe album ever recorded.

- 4 of their coolest original songs (Hang Em High, Secrets!, Little Guitars, The Full Bug)

-3 amazing & innovative Eddie instrumental pieces

- Plus a handful of fun cover tunes that were totally Van Halen-ized including Ed and Al's dad playing on a song and a Van Halen concert staple with "Happy Trails" that was played on every show from 1982-1984.

it's over... it's done... my ten-chapter quest to wrap up the Empire storyline of Foundation season one is complete!! (and just in time for season two...)

Sunday Snippet - Day By Day - Demerzel & Shadowmaster Obrecht (Foundation TV)

“How?” Demerzel took the bait almost immediately.

Hook, line and sinker, as they say.

He opted not to elaborate further, instead relishing the satisfying discomfort he was causing her as he raised his wine glass in her direction. Now that was a fine way to unwind after another long day of attending to the Empire’s numerous affairs. On the other side of the screen, his colleague collapsed into a chair in what Obrecht identified as the Imperial ship's control room, picking up her book with a flair of contempt. He reclined in his own chair, throwing his legs onto the table with a groan of relief. Demerzel mirrored his action on her end, her movements elegant and swift. However, the display was far less entertaining to observe given the lightweight attire she now donned on the Maiden, compared to her heavy, formal Palace uniform dress.
