The toughest thing about soloing a fandom among my social network is that I just watched a delightful bit of canon and now I want to shout with a fellow fan about all the great juicy details we can rework in fandom.

But no: I have to sit here. Patiently. With my carpet thread and my pleather and my curved mattress needle. Trying to make sturdy yet nearly invisible stitches, evenly spaced for proper distribution of strain.

Hrmph.

fuck. now I'm looking at my old apartment on Google Earth, the one that burned

February, 2022- I was midway through making the Lucille park dress cosplay. it was the middle of the day, so I was probably at work or out with a friend or doing something crafty at home. maybe writing. maybe I'm in there, dreaming and creating behind the windows. knowing where each treasure that makes up my life is, and that they and their memories are safe. taking it for granted. if I want a book, I will walk upstairs to the bookcase in the living room and grab my childhood copy of Ella Enchanted, or an autographed October Daye novel, or the out-of-print doll clothing reference encyclopedia a friend sent me a few months earlier. in another week or so, I will see snow ghost-dance past the window in my third-floor bedroom. my Room At The Top Of The World, I called it

"this is such a nice apartment," existing residents would say to new housemates during pauses in sweaty September moving days. "it REALLY is," would generally be the awed response. it really was

I am in there, feeling stable and safe, always. knowing that, while I don't want to live in this apartment permanently, it will be here until I'm ready to leave. on my own terms. in happiness, or at least acceptance. with preparation. with a chance to say good-bye

I learnt two things today:

I can do a pretty good cosplay of October with a bit of makeup and the leather jacket I stole from my brother

“elf covered in blood” is my absolute sexiest style, I’ll nver top this and it’s a fucking shame it’s not socially acceptable for me to walk around like this all the time

It’s time for my school’s Halloween party again!  I was planning on revamping my Hester Shaw cosplay but I don’t seem to have that wig with me?  I had two days left to work with the wigs I already had to find a replacement, so I went to the thrift store with a mental list of which costumes I could put together and what I would need to do it.  There was a great brown leather jacket, so I’m redoing my Toby Daye cosplay!

I bought a cheap shirt so I could rise to the challenge and get blood all over it.  And I think these jeans (which I already owned) and this jacket work better than what I wore last time!  Plus I remembered to bring a coffee mug for photos.  I’d still like to get longer ears, and I think even if I stick with early!Toby, I want to make cheekbone prosthetics.  I did add a slight wave to the wig and change how I styled it so that I could cover the ear seams better, but with longer ears I could let it fall differently and it wouldn’t matter.  Oh and I might want to get some white face paint to mix with my foundation.

i usually don’t do these things, but if i stare at this cover letter draft any longer i’m gonna gouge my eyes out, so here we go

current top 3 ships: ah hell, this changes constantly. uhhhhh... right at this moment, probably jester/beau (critical role), october/tybalt (seanan mcguire’s october daye series), and obi-wan/padmé/anakin (star wars)... or maybe just obi-wan/everything not being terrible

last song: brandi di cavals by lou dalfin (i’m currently listening to a spotify playlist filled with as much hurdy gurdy music as i could track down... i’m in a Very Specific musical mood right now)

lipstick or chapstick: chapstick when necessary. at this point, the only way you’ll get me in makeup is cosplay.

last movie: i actually can’t remember? it’s been ages since i’ve sat down and watched a full movie and even longer since i’ve been to a movie theater (movie theaters are like migraines waiting to happen for me, so i tend to go only if i feel REALLY strongly about seeing something). last tv show was clone wars.

reading: just finished raven boys, currently waiting for the rest of maggie stiefvater’s raven cycle books to come in at the library

I feel like the hardest part about cosplaying as Toby is all the fake blood. I mean, if you aren't at least 50% covered in blood, how will we know it's Toby?

my absolute dream role, acting-wise, is October Daye

the downside here is that I’ve dramatically scaled back on pursuing commercial acting right now, plus if they made a series or movie or whatever any time in the next...four to six years, if I got the usual family genes, I’d look too young to play her. and of course the million and one other factors that go into casting any part in anything, let alone the lead in an adaptation of a New York Times bestselling series. I probably wouldn’t get it regardless

the upside is...I can pronounce most of the fae names and I already have weirdly light eyes?

I’m surprised how much use I’ve gotten out of this jacket!  As you may be able to tell from the first pic, I got it for an October Daye cosplay.  However, even from a thrift store, a largish leather jacket is still a little pricier than I’d like.  I knew I wanted to try and wear it once in a while with my normal clothes, but I didn’t think I would manage it this often!
