Some plant news! I've been waiting impatiently to see if the stuff I planted last autumn had survived the winter, and it's looking good so far. All my young fruit trees are blooming (quince, cherry, apple, mirabelle)

The persimmon has no blossoms but some microscopic leaves, I hope it grows more vigorous... I only lost one baby chestnut tree, which seems to have been massacred by a very angry animal. A boar having a bad day? I'll have to plant a couple more this autumn and protect them better. I can just use the remains of one of the many types of fences that Pampe has defeated.

My greenhouse now has to wear a blanket in the afternoons so it doesn't get too hot inside. I planted four flowering shrubs around it in November, so their roots will consolidate the new terraces, and I'm happy to say they are all accounted for—these two have already doubled in volume, they seem thrilled to be there:

Whereas these two all but disappeared during the winter, the ground just swallowed them; I wasn't too optimistic but they showed up again last month, with timid new leaves :) (The pics are very zoomed in, the resurrected shrubs are about the size of my fist but I'm proud of them)

Also I found wild redcurrants by the stream last year and I snapped a few small branches and just stuck them in a pot without really believing it would work. Internet said it would work but it seemed impossible. I left the pot outside all winter, never watering it or taking care of it in any way, with these four bare sticks that I sometimes looked at dubiously. It worked!!! They have leaves now! I made new redcurrant plants by sticking branches in dirt, it feels magical. They're my favourite berries too...

(My project for next autumn will be to propagate elderberry cuttings alongside the fence.) And speaking of berries, I got to eat my first aquaponic-grown strawberry today, it was delicious <3 Congratulations to the 42 fish who are hard at work fertilising the plants in the towers. There are many more strawberries in preparation!

I leave the greenhouse doors open all day when it's sunny so there are pollinators busily flying in and out, doing their job. I tried to relocate a few ladybirds to the strawberry towers to eat aphids but without success, I think they left immediately...

My lettuce and tomato plants are doing great, but the courgette plants got decimated by slugs despite my efforts to repel them. I ended up buying some organic antislug product a friend of my mum's recommended. I started new courgette seeds, and I'll wait until they're bigger to transplant them to slug territory.

The little Mexican orange tree is blossoming, and finally making new leaves (the new ones are yellow) after looking worryingly bald for a while this winter. The blossoms really do smell like orange blossoms! I know it's right there in the name but I'm still like oh look at you you talented orange tree, you got the smell of your flowers right on the first try and everything

Congrats to Mascarille who was looking for the greenhouse entrance in the above pic (she always has to walk around it a few times, she's confused by glass walls) and eventually triumphed over adversity.

Oh and I'm still getting fresh peas, in homeopathic quantities. I found that they grow well in the middle of winter so I'll plant a lot more this autumn when the towers aren't full of strawberries and herbs; for now I've started just eating them raw like little green candy.

Last but not least, Louise Michel the new hen has finally learnt how to climb my homemade stairs that lead to the greenhouse! Look at her showing off her new skill, all casually like this problem hasn't stumped her for weeks:

I was wondering if ladybugs, ladybirds, or ladybeetles (I know they're all the same thing but the names are cute) can be other colors than red or orange. Do you know? I don't trust Google images, but I trust you ^^

Aw, aren’t you sweet! Well, I’ve definitely had the opportunity to see lots of color variations of lady beetle. From black to almost pink-ish! There’s a tree outside my place where they like to lay eggs every year so I get to see them often. Last week I even saw one that had pale spots, it was really pretty! Here’s a picture:

Jesper: Star Wars (the original trilogy and the prequels), Indiana Jones, Life of Brian, Ferris Bueller's Day off, American Pie, MIB, Terminator, Ghostbusters, Scream, Back to the future etc. He definitely likes fun adventure movies. Also a lot of animated movies like The Lego Movie and Lego Batman (masterpieces) and Pixar and Dreamwork's Movies (his favorites being Toy story and Shrek). Also Disney classics like treasure planet and Atlantis. Probably also western movies and he'd idolize Clint Eastwood.

Favorite Series are The Office, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo etc.

Wylan: Perks of being a wallflower, Ladybird, Howl's moving castle, Billy Elliot, Your Name, Dead Poet's society, Stardust, Narnia, La La Land, Lotr trilogy (his comfort movies), Call me by your name and all of Wes Anderson's movies. I think he'd be secretly a huge filmnerd who also loves A24 movies, David Fincher, arthouse movies etc. But I think he would be a bit embarrassed by it.

His favorite series are Doctor Who (David Tennant Version because that's the best one), Fargo and Good Omens.

Nina: A sucker for romance and chick flicks, especially romantic comedies. The Notebook, Mamma Mia!, When Harry met Sally, Mean Girls, She's the Man, badly written Netflix romantic comedies,

She likes reality TV and desperate housewives, sex and the city, friends and modern family.

Matthias: 1917, Saving Private Ryan, All quiet on the western front, Hacksaw Ridge, The Notebook, Dunkirk, John Wick movies and other action movies. My taste is completely different so it's very difficult for me to think of other movies he would like.

I don't think he would watch a lot of series because it takes up a lot of time. Not the guy to concern himself with entertainment and media really but does enjoy a good story.

Feel free to criticize me or suggest other media. Maybe I should also make a list about the music they'd like?

Backstab || Snape x Lucius AU

Severus eyed Draco as he ran around the back garden, chasing Merlin knows what. The boy had such an imagination, and Severus envied it. He envied a time where things were as simple as running around playing make-believe. He never wanted this boy to know any hardship. He hoped they could keep him shielded from the horrors of the world. 

“Godfather, look!” Draco called out as he rushed up to him, then held out his hand. “What is this?”

“A ladybird,” Severus explained. “They can come in different colours. Red is most common though,” he said. “See if you can find a yellow one and an orange one. But let this one go carefully, you don’t want to hurt it.”

“Okay,” Draco said as he squatted down and gently let it crawl back into the grass. “When are Mother and Father going to be back?”

“Any minute now,” Severus said. “Here, I’ll help you look for the ladybirds,” he said as he got up from the chair he was in. He had been there for this boy since birth. Since before birth. His parents were his best friends in the world, and they had helped him a lot after he lost Lily... both times. They had been there for him in a way that he could never repay, Lucius more than anyone. He had picked him up when he was down, even when they were in school. He was a few years older, but he had sheltered him when he could. The bullies in school were ferocious, but it was always good to have a powerful young man like Lucius in your corner. Most people were scared of him... or his money and connections, more accurately. 

Like it was rehearsed, he heard a crack of Apparition in the house and he smirked at Draco’s gasp of excitement. Severus often babysat for them while they went on work trips or took holidays. They sometimes took Draco, but sometimes they wanted time to themselves. He understood that. He liked spending time with his godson. He was sharp and they got along well. It was also nice to get out of his own head for a while and just focus on whatever he wanted. He was definitely spoiled, but with parents like his, it was inevitable. 

“Oh, my baby,” Narcissa gushed as she knelt down to hug Draco when he sprinted into her arms. “I missed you so much, sweetheart. Were you good for Godfather?”

“Yes!” Draco nodded. “We were catching ladybirds.”

“Draco did all the catching. I was merely spectating,” Severus smirked as he walked up to them. He hugged both Narcissa and Lucius. “How was your trip then? You don’t look too sunkissed, but then again, you never do,” he teased.

Potoake is me, Khoi was accidentally made during a math competition, and Grassy is from a scrapped plot for a dystopian English project (not associated with osc) Grassy's ever so slightly more fleshed out than some of my other characters due to being part of a concept but ehh comfort characters yippee

Maybe I'll come back to it someday but back when I made Khoi I was thinking about making a fnf mod (if I looked tired in any of my drawings I just finished that stupid annual math test thingy and exhaustion bleh)

I actually like to sing and voice act but I have a bit of stage fright so performing is hard (I'm currently working on getting myself the courage to audition for something but I've been busy with school)

Grassy lore stuffies in case you cared:

Grassy is not a humanization of the grassy you might be thinking of. The plot of the scrapped project was essentially if america "dissolved" but what actually happened was the government broke the country down into colour oriented "sudo-countries" so that the people were further divided (I guess the thought process was that if they were separated, it would be harder to raise support against them.) These colour countries are vaguely aware of each other's existence but share a feeling of bitterness or hate towards each other. There are these incomprehensibly tall walls that keep the people in and others out as well as a tinted ceiling of sorts. It's kinda like how everything is slightly more yellow when you wear blue light protection lenses but with the designated colour. It's why Grassy is called grassy (because of the colour, not the tpot character.) Everyone or at least most people now have stupid colour oriented names yippee.

Grassy escapes due to a hole in this wall after having an argument with his family about something (mm very specific maybe like aspirations, work ethic) and runs into a girl. I don't have a design for the girl but her name was Cider. She's from the orange country. From her perspective she escaped her terrible rich family (rich rebel girl doesn't like posh rich family life.) They find out what the world really looks like outside the walls (there are gaps in-between the colour countries where there is a thick jungle and evergreen forest where they argue about whether or not black is just a really dark green or a really dark orange), and learn of a refugee sort of camp where survivors, escapees, etc dwell. They are wearing normal or mixed coloured clothing like brown.

The main-ish storyline begins where Grassy and Cider find that one of the children from the village is missing. They go off on an adventure to find the missing kid. There was no specific date in the future, just far enough to where outside of the walls, flora and fauna have had to grow increasingly more violent and such in order to grow in between the colour state walls. This makes the journey more difficult.

I never ended up writing it but as long as I'm credited I don't mind if people give writing or drawing stuff a shot (lemme know I would love to absorb content like a vacuum cleaner I don't bite :D)

I don't remember too much about the end, I know near the beginning they get that one weird useless mystical companion which is a weird ladybird creature and later on it's species is supposed to turn into a snail with legs and cross the ocean idk. I just know stuff is all weirdly evolved and stuff like rain world.

When they find the missing teen they find that they don't want to go back. They have black hair and are biologically female but go by they/them (it's whatever but preferably that) and if I remember correctly, Grassy does like Cider a bit but it turns out she's lesbian and so she and the missing girl get together and grassy is single. They find the missing girl at the beach and so eventually the snail with legs was supposed to grow up and they'd ride it across the ocean maybe?

There was no specified continents outside of the america that they are on but I think there were two mega continents where america was one and Europe, Asia, and Australia were the other continent.

I might make long posts with some other things I think about sometimes. I think I like documenting all this stuff 😋. If you make something out of it, credit me and let me know I wanna see :)

okay so "ladybug" is inaccurate bc they arent bugs but beetles. however "ladybird" is scientifically accepted??? hate to break it to these scientists but they arent birds either.

and they cant use "ladybeetle" bc thats a different type of bug. (theyre like orange big ladybugs that eat up gardens and are originally from asia)

I'm curious to see what you'll do for Marinette's new design in Paradise. I could see you using Shadybug elements if you go for a darker look. Or if you give her a bright look like Adrien, I could see you doing something with the colors of the Steel-Blue Ladybird or Lipstick lady beetle. Or to keep the original sunset 🌇 look, you could use the red, orange, yellow, and black colors ladybugs are known to have to give her a bit of a hybrid look.

Well, I can't say what colors I'll be doing quite yet, but I have the designs for her and Bridge

I was inspired when you mentioned possibly using elements of Shadybug (even though I know you meant coloring) but took inspiration from it all the same. Gave her a little cape too to give her a super hero feel/look. Considered having her hair down, but didn't like it, so tied back her hair like Cicada. I'm still debating if she'll be showing her scars as depicted above, though I lean towards most likely.

Now, Bridgette is an amalgamation for Dusk and Lady Beetle designs. And, while I don't know the colors for Mari, Bridgette will be black. This being because two reasons. One, inspiration from a song called "Black Fox" by Heather Dale about a hunts master declaring if only the devil would show up and they'd give him a good chase only to have a pitch black fox emerge that was the devil himself, giving them what they asked. Second, Chapter 6's name is Void which is the name Bridgette takes as the fox holder.

Have you ever caught a ladybug?

Do you remember the "distinctive" smell it leaves in your hand?

In fact, this is a defense for ladybugs. When stimulated, ladybugs secrete a yellowish body fluid that is smelly and bitter to deter predators. IPMP is the main compound responsible for the smell, especially in yellow and orange ladybirds. This odor of ladybugs also poses a problem for winemaking. If ladybugs are mixed with the grapes, a strong odor can be integrated into the wine, affecting the quality and taste of the wine.
