Jean-Baptiste Carhaix ~ « Sister Sadie the Rabbi Lady » (1983) Galerie Vrais Rêves, Lyon
From « Over the Rainbow » at Centre Pompidou
Over the Rainbow proposes a constellation of diverse artworks whose common feature is that each in its own way affirms what homophobic representation denigrates.

W&LT: Spring/Summer 'Over The Rainbow' By: Water van Beirendonck (1995)
The W&LT SS95 'Over The Rainbow' runway collection was a groundbreaking show that pushed the boundaries of what was possible in the world of fashion. The collection was inspired by the idea of fantasy and imagination, with each piece designed to transport the wearer to a world of their own creation.
The show began with a burst of light and sound, as models emerged onto the runway wearing brightly colored, oversized coats and hats. The coats were made from a variety of materials, including wool, silk, and leather, and featured bold patterns and prints that added to the sense of whimsy.

“She means a fantasy world, like Neverland, or perhaps even heaven, some other place away from reality where dreams come true.”
“The most prevalent theme of the song is escapism: to leave current circumstances and go somewhere with more opportunities, where those "dreams that you dare to dream" can come true.”

Escapism, associated with Tsukasa?
Iro wouldn’t give him the role of Dorothy without purpose.
But why didn’t Iro give Nene the role of Dorothy? She’s dreams all the time, she’s a hopeless romantic.
She got the tornado.
That tornado that wisp Dorothy away into the fantasy world, where she finds hope that her dreams can come true…
Hm.. Interesting. Nene as the one taking Dorothy, aka Tsukasa, to the better place. Showing him a better place….
Wish granting, maybe..?
Or, are they both Dorothy, but Nene is just a bit unlucky to not get the world she wants?

Okay so in The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy wants to go somewhere “Where trouble melts like lemon drops” and eventually she kills the villain in Oz by melting her.
Maybe this is an obvious observation but it hadn’t occurred to me before this.

I saw a TikTok where somebody rewrote Over The Rainbow to be a “heartbreak song” and it got me thinking... Over The Rainbow as-is works perfectly as a song of heartbreak regarding Dorothy’s relationship with Ozma.
I mean, the song is all about longing for a place of comfort and safety for when trouble gets to be too much to bear. In the context of the movie this is reflective of Dorothy’s desire to escape her dreary life in Kansas and go somewhere new and colorful.  But in the context of her love for Ozma, this world over the rainbow- the land of Oz- is the only place where the two of them can be together. A place where she can escape the bigotry of her early 20th century homeland and be who she is. A place that she’s always being pulled away from because she has responsibilities on the farm and to her family that she can’t just walk away from. All she can do is be patient and wait for the day where nothing holds her back anymore and she can be with the girl she loves forever.
In conclusion- lesbians. 🧡💛🤍💖💜

"She'd known about Trism already, if only theoretically. Her reaction of, oh, shock was it, didn't derive from the substitution of this beloved man for her mother. Any equation of simple replacement would be mere math--the situation called for melody. No, her being appalled wasn't as obvious as that. Nor was it squeamishness about the maleness of their mating. Or not much. It was rather that she'd left her father a single man, serene in his independence, building himself a solitary hideout and losing himself in his quiet work, and she'd returned to find he'd gone--common. Seeking common satisfactions. Or common enough. Companionship. Attention. Yeah, love too, in all its mess and cost. So what am I left with, she wondered. What is it. Simply more aloneness, is that it. I felt less isolated flying alone on my broom than I do coming home to a cottage with dishes drying on a towel and farm animals braying and snorting in the barn. Where everything is a matching pair. Except me, who matches no one and nothing."
-Gregory Maguire, The Witch of Maracoor
