Speak My Language — Tom Koracick x OC
Summary: Tom and Sophie express the five love languages to one another.
Word Count: 901
Warnings: None, pure fluff
1. Words of Affirmation
"What are you reading," Tom asked, peeping over Sophie's shoulder as she perused an article on her laptop.
"An analysis of the so called 'Five Love Languages'. The original text itself is reductive. Surely these are five ways people can express love, but they’re not the be all end all the author claims them to be."
Tom grinned. He liked this side of her. The skeptic hidden under the sunshine persona she pushes so hard in the peds ward. "I agree," he punctuated with a kiss to the side of her head. "Five is such a small number. Ten maybe, but five? I don’t buy it."
Sophie chuckled and shut her laptop, shaking her head. "Tom, you ridiculous man. I love you."
"In more than ten ways?"
"In twenty," she replied, not missing a beat.
2. Acts of Service
It had been a long day. And a tough one at that. Sophie checked her watch. Shit, it was later than she thought. She gave Tom a call.
"You still here? I know I said I’d make dinner…"
"Already taken care of. The best Chinese takeout money can buy, a selection of movies for your perusal when you get home and one free cuddle session."
"Tom," Sophie practically sighed. She was still amazed at how thoughtful he could be sometimes.
"Bailey told me you had a difficult case and I thought you might want to take your mind off of it for the night. Maybe finish off that love language article you were reading. Whatever you want."
"Thank you. I’ll be home soon. I’m just leaving."
3. Receiving Gifts
"Dr. Kendall, I have something for you," one of her nurses told her, having finally caught up with her.
Sophie regarded the woman curiously. Had she forgotten some paperwork somewhere? Lost a patient chart? But the object she held in her hand wasn’t paper at all, but a six inch, flat, rectangular box. Sophie accepted the mysterious item from her hesitantly.
"Oh, and a note," she added, reaching into her pocket and taking out the folded up paper that accompanied her strange gift.
"…Thank you," Sophie replied, as graciously as she could amongst the confusion. Before she had time to think up any follow up questions, the nurse was already halfway down the hall, and Sophie was left with the box, and the note. She opened the box first. Inside, it contained a pen, bright purple, no doubt with dark purple ink within. Sophie smiled, sat the box on the nearby supply cart and unfolded the note to read.
I remember you saying your favorite pen ran out of ink, so I rush ordered another. — Tom
4. Quality Time
The rain had just cleared and it was Sophie's favorite time to go outside and clear her head, and since she had a moment, she did just that. Her feet led her to her favorite bench, just outside of Grey Sloan's main entrance. Yet she didn’t expect to find Tom already occupying half of the seat.
"Knew you’d be out here," he greeted with a sly smile. He was really starting to know her almost better than she knew herself these days. She sat next to him wordlessly, and let out a weary but contented sigh. She’d been on her feet for hours, but sitting here with Tom was a nice release from her busy day.
It was a mere fifteen minutes before she was needed back inside once again, but Tom had stayed by her side in silence the whole time, his arm thrown around the back of the bench, letting her lean into him if she liked. And she did. Her body was aching for her to stay still, just hold out a few more seconds before tearing herself away from Tom, but duty called. Still, for the rest of the day, she’d mentally be sitting on that bench with him, soaking up the smell after the rain.
5. Physical Touch
Sophie giggled when Tom came up behind her and whispered in her ear. His hot breath warmed her neck and his arms slipped around her waist, causing tingles to shoot through her body. He rested his head on her shoulder and watched her cook for a moment. It wasn’t often enough that they got to enjoy a proper meal together.
"You stir," Sophie instructed, and Tom took the wooden spoon from her hand, leaving one arm around her as he stirred the sauce. Sophie busied herself with checking on the pasta —nearly ready now— and Tom placed a quick kiss on her cheek. He let her go when the time came to drain the noodles, and they stepped around each other skillfully as they finished the preparation.
They ate in relative quiet for a change, and Tom reached out for Sophie's hand across the table. He rubbed his thumb over her knuckles for a moment as they attempted to manage their spaghetti with one hand, a feat that got the better of them sooner rather than later.
After dinner, came another dance around the kitchen as they put dishes in the sink and the leftovers away in tupperware, every once in a while Tom brushing his hand across her lower back. And when they finally sat down on the couch together, all felt right in the world as Sophie ducked under Tom’s arm and scooted in close.

What I know is that these children’s mismanaged medications, because of the lack of an expert that knows everything about having pediatric pharmacology on their team, is causing a massive disservice to these children.
Dr. Jena Quinn, PharmD, BCPPS
In her recent testimony before the Assembly Health Committee last week, Jena Quinn, a pediatric pharmacist, exposed rampant pediatric medication errors linked to systemic lack of education and oversight.
Her testimony was in support of NJ A4810, a bill that would require NJ FamilyCare reimbursement for pediatric medication management services provided for certain children by licensed pharmacist.
According to Quinn:
1 in 3 pediatric prescriptions contain an error.
Less than 1% of pharmacists are trained to address the unique needs of pediatric patient.
Pharmacists in retail settings are not required to have any education in pediatrics.
Pediatricians do not oversee a patient’s medications once they have referred them out to a subspecialist.
A study that introduced the intervention of pediatric pharmacists demonstrated a 44% reduction in hospitalizations in children with medical complexities.
You can listen to her complete testimony here (at about 32:00)
Hi my name is Jena Quinn. I am a pediatric pharmacist. A lot of people don’t even know what that means. So a pediatric pharmacist is a pharmacist that has gone to school to get their doctorate of pharmacy, but then after we practice, we get our residency just like a normal residency doctor training for 1-2 years. After that we go on to get our board certification in pediatric pharmacology. So our training is very unique and it’s very, very intensive. There’s only 1700 of us in the United States…
I’ve been a pediatric pharmacist for over a decade. I practice at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as well as Cooper University. I’m coming to you today not only as a business owner of Perfecting Peds, I’m coming to you today as a pediatric pharmacist.
There’s a massive problem that is under recognized in the United States. One in 3 pediatric prescriptions contain and error. The USP Medication Error Report of 2023 showed that 31% of pediatric prescriptions contain an error. I can tell you as a mom of 3 little girls that I have intervened on 60-70% of my own daughters’ medications. This being said, 85% of medications in the pediatric population are off-label. Pediatricians only have 1-2 semesters of pharmacology. Because of that, they are really great at their core medications – 20-30 meds. But as they start to branch out and the patient gets more complex, and they start referring out to subspecialists, what happens is that pediatricians have a very hands off approach.

This might be badly worded but I just wanted to say thank you for everything you're doing when it comes to fighting against callouts and all. I still struggle with feeling stupid for having anxiety attacks and what I've been told is PTSD because of baiting to kill myself and detailing how I deserved to be r-ped over a fic and a character, I still cannot watch what fandom it was apart of because of how terrifying and triggering it was all so I'd "learn my lesson", "see the error of liking (fictional character)" and "we'll be nice again once you delete that fic bestie!" and so much more. There was immense trauma that I feel so shameful for feeling traumatized about still. I really struggle with participation in fandom because of it but from the bottom of my heart and soul, thank you for being here and fighting back, making fandom feel a little safer. You, your strength, your ethic are an inspiration. I wish you endless good things and support.
I don't think it's badly worded at all. And I'm so, so sorry this has been your fandom experience. You didn't deserve it, they were in the wrong, and the fact that this is becoming a problem from younger folks in fandom spaces? Fucking sucks.
It's literally...baffling to me. The rise of purity culture in fandom? Baffling. Fandom is where I went to ESCAPE purity culture in high school and now this shit is following me in? EW.
I kept this message for a while, because it really meant a lot to me to reread. It's such...all I wanted to do was to write fic. Fandom has ALWAYS been this open inclusive space for ANY ship, even the ones I fucking hate. I'm not shy about the ships I hate! I talk about it literally all the time! There is space to hate ships. That's why the anti tag exists. Some of my closest most beloved Hellcheerers are Reylos and I fuckin' haaaaaate Reylo.
But there's space for me to hate Reylo. I don't need to take a faux-moral stance for me to hate it, I can just hate it because I hate Adam Driver's stupid face. (Or how the focus on his arc deteriorated Finn's arc as a result IT'S FINE. NOT THE ISSUE.)
There is space for fluff and coffeeshop AUs and the most disturbing violent dead doves you've ever seen. There is space for love and fun and trauma and hate.
It's just very outside my fandom experience. The ship wars were vicious, but they weren't trying to shove puritanical moral value to them. It was literally just "I fucking hate Kikyo's stupid face she's a slut", which yeah, reductive and mean, but at least it was honest and not trying to turn it into good vs. evil.
I really hope this weird fuckin trend of harassing dead dove writers or writers of "problematic" ships dies. And I hope your next fandom is lovely and warm and supportive, because you fucking deserve that. We all do. No one deserves this kind of vitriol. It's inexcusable, pathetic, and I'm never going to shut up about how awful it is.
I'm not going anywhere, babes.

I have to agree. The loss isn't just genre and it's reductive to think that way. She was right in the beginning that she can't relate and therefore understand because she did not lose anything, a piece of what she thought was part of her very self. Being a fan mean investing in an author, even when you were a casual fan like myself.
The best way I can deal with this is to think about this video. The creator bring in Barthes' notion of "The Death of the Author". The idea is that an author does not, conceptually thinking, own their art in the sense that what you do with it is not contingent on them. The idea that once a work is out in the universe, what you do with it, how it makes you feel is not tied to the author. This resonates. But I have yet to truly absorb and believe it.
Maybe I'll get there someday. I sure haven't gotten there yet with JKR. So I'll keep on walking, and will try to figure out what I'll do with the few books I own of his. I own them already. I spent my fucking hard earned money on them. Burning or throwing them away won't affect that fucker one iota. So I'll pile them in the corner while I mourn for the women he brutalized, the child he scarred, and the lives he ruined so casually and carelessly, often using that same hard earned money of mine and others' to just pay off victims. Minimally, I'll mourn for the worlds I can't escape to anymore, and be happy there are plenty of others to discover. Every time I stumble on the pile, I send a thought to his victims.
Because ultimately, what people may not be talking about enough, is that the monster made us accomplices in a way. The houses in which he r*ped the women where paid for by his fans! The power he wielded was thanks to his fans. The invulnerability he gained was because his fans made him. He literally preyed on his fans in multiple cases. And it will take a while for me personally to forgive him for that, for essentially exploiting our goodwill, the need to connect, notwithstanding the real harm he caused his victims.
Maybe, one day, one day soon, I'll be able to cut the cord and enjoy the art for itself, consider that he doesn't own it, consider him dead to me enough to disappear him from my reading and consumption of his oeuvre. But I've never been one to be able to separate the art from the artist and I won't apologize for that.
I don't really believe in separating the art from the artist, but I remember how much it hurt when I found out Rowling was an absolutely shit person and so I do worry about the Gaiman fans out there who are in pain because of the article that was dropped today. I hope this helps.

Key Requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) for Manufacturers
The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU is a critical regulation for manufacturers of pressure equipment looking to sell their products within the European Union (EU). It establishes essential safety, design, and compliance requirements to ensure that pressure equipment operates safely and reliably under high-pressure conditions. Compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive is not only a legal requirement but also a key factor in market access, risk management, and customer trust.
Key Requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)
1. Product Classification Based on Risk
PED classifies pressure equipment into different categories (I to IV) based on operating pressure, fluid type, and equipment size. Higher-risk categories require more rigorous testing and certification processes.
2. Conformity Assessment Procedures
Manufacturers must follow specific conformity assessment modules based on their equipment’s classification. This may include self-certification, third-party inspections, or full quality assurance audits by a Notified Body (NoBo).
3. Essential Safety Requirements (ESR)
The directive mandates that pressure equipment directive must be designed and manufactured to meet strict safety criteria, including: ✅ Material selection – Ensuring materials can withstand pressure, temperature, and corrosion risks. ✅ Design verification – Using stress analysis and risk assessment to confirm structural integrity. ✅ Manufacturing processes – Adhering to welding, heat treatment, and inspection standards. ✅ Testing and inspections – Conducting pressure testing and non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify equipment safety.
4. CE Marking & Technical Documentation
Once compliance is confirmed, manufacturers must affix the CE Mark to their equipment, signaling conformity with PED regulations. They must also maintain technical documentation outlining the design, risk assessment, test reports, and conformity assessment results.
5. Ongoing Compliance & Market Surveillance
Even after certification, manufacturers must ensure continuous compliance with PED requirements through quality control systems, periodic inspections, and proper labeling. EU authorities conduct market surveillance to prevent non-compliant or unsafe products from entering the market.
Why PED Compliance Matters for Manufacturers
🚀 Legal Market Access – PED compliance is mandatory for selling pressure equipment in the EU market. 🚀 Enhanced Safety & Risk Reduction – Meeting PED standards minimizes failure risks, accidents, and liability issues. 🚀 Stronger Customer Confidence – PED-certified products are trusted by buyers, regulators, and industry partners.

Improve Sexual Health Of Men With Performance Enhancing Drugs
There are many ways that male libido can be increased, from lifestyle and diet changes to the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Of course, in most cases, lifestyle and diet are the best starting points when sexual health improvements are concerned, but PEDs often play a role for some males who want the results to manifest in a hurry. Natural remedies for increasing male libido
Lifestyle would play a significant role in sexual performance and desire. Regular exercise, sleep, and a good diet rich in vitamins and minerals can enable someone to see his or her normal levels of testosterone increased-that is the key hormone responsible boost libido in men. The reduction of stress along with the management of mental health is also critical; very high levels of anxiety or depression can result in a lower sex drive.

Other foods known to be aphrodisiacs include oysters, dark chocolates, and foods with zinc and magnesium. These elements in food facilitate testosterone production. A fit life about the body can be achieved through activity, quitting smoking, and reducing alcohol consumption. Very workable methods to enhance a person's libido exist. Performance-enhancing drugs Finally, when the natural method does not yield satisfactory results, men turn to the performance enhancing drugs. Such drugs are prescription medications like Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil) which help improve blood flow to the penis and subsequently help in attaining and maintaining an erection. These are drugs that are given to men suffering from erectile dysfunction but can be used by those who intend on improving their sexual performance. Another group of men might take anabolic steroids or any other enhancer of testosterone to increase their muscle mass as well as libido. These chemicals all carry with them all sorts of risks associated with cardiovascular problems, mood swings, and addiction potential. For this reason, a consultation with a healthcare professional has to precede the use of any performance enhancing drugs because of possible misuse that might cause serious long-term health problems. In conclusion, there are means by which you can boost libido in men through natural means such as lifestyle adjustments or even implementation, in some cases through performance-enhancing drugs. The forge KB Schmiedetechnik is located in Hagen, Westphalia, with just under 100 employees. It is situated between the historic 'blade and metal' region of Solingen and 'soccer city' Dortmund, near the hilly landscape of the Sauerland.

KB specializes in the small series production of safety-critical closed-die forgings, ranging from 200 g to 130 kg in unit weight, using all steel grades, including duplex stainless steels, nickel-based superalloys, and even titanium.
Depth of Manufacturing
All production processes are carried out in-house, including CAD design, tool construction, closed-die forging, heat treatment, hardening, CNC machining, as well as testing and surface inspection in our own lab.
We process all types of steel, including carbon, alloyed, duplex, as well as nickel-based alloys and titanium.

For 20 years, we have been helping our customers optimize forgings through material flow simulation. We advise on transitioning from assemblies, such as welded structures or cast parts, to forged components with enhanced grain flow. Additionally, material flow simulation facilitates the reduction of excess material, such as flash, allowing for completely flash-free forging (depending on the geometry), which saves both material and energy.

Forged components are often not only more robust and visually appealing (picture above), but also more cost-effective to produce. We assist in transitioning from assemblies, such as welded structures (right) or cast parts, to forged components (left) with enhanced grain flow.

Materials and Case Studies
Nickel (Ni) is used as an alloying element in steels to improve their toughness and ductility at low temperatures. From a nickel content of 9%, steels are considered cold-resistant and free from embrittlement. Besides steel, there are also other alloys with such properties (e.g., superalloys). Examples:
F316x – The standard chromium, nickel, and molybdenum stainless steel for cutlery, power plants, and cryogenics (10-13% Ni). Many sub-varieties with specific properties, such as: 1.4404, 1.4435, 1.4571 exist.
Monel®400 – A nickel-copper superalloy highly resistant to corrosion, particularly suitable for chemical applications, seawater, and high-temperature environments such as rocket engines (63% Ni)
Nitronic®, 1.3964, Alloy 50 – A non-magnetic chromium-nickel alloy (12.5% Ni) specifically for offshore and marine areas.

KB Schmiedetechnik GmbH holds certifications for both ISO_9001 and ISO_14001, along with various additional certifications for demanding sectors such as pressure equipment, nuclear power plants, and even five shipbuilding supplier certifications such as ABS, BV Marine & Offshore, ClassNK, DNV, and LR. Relevant documents can be downloaded from the company's website in the 'Quality' section.

Unlocking the Mystical Powers of Rudraksha Beads: Benefits, Myths, and More

Introduction:
Rudraksha, often referred to as "Rudraksh ka ped" in Indian culture, has intrigued spiritual seekers and enthusiasts for centuries. These sacred beads, believed to possess mystical powers, are an integral part of various spiritual practices. From rudraksha beads to rudraksha malas and even rudraksha gold chains, these unique offerings of nature have gained popularity not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their numerous perceived benefits.
In this blog, we will delve into the world of rudraksha, exploring its origins, significance, and the incredible benefits it is said to offer. Let's unravel the mysteries of these mystical beads.
The Origins of Rudraksha Beads:
Rudraksha beads are seeds obtained from the fruit of the Rudraksha tree (Elaeocarpus ganitrus), which is primarily found in the Himalayan region, Indonesia, and parts of Southeast Asia. These seeds are known for their unique appearance, characterized by multiple facets or "mukhis" on their surface. The number of mukhis on a rudraksha seed can vary, with each type believed to hold distinct properties and energies.
Significance in Hinduism and Beyond:
The word "rudraksha" is derived from two Sanskrit words, "Rudra" (a name for Lord Shiva) and "Aksha" (eye). According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is said to have meditated for thousands of years with his eyes closed, and when he opened them, the tears that fell from his eyes transformed into rudraksha trees. Hence, these beads are often associated with Lord Shiva and are considered highly sacred in Hinduism.
However, the significance of rudraksha beads extends beyond Hinduism. They are also revered in Buddhism and other spiritual traditions as tools for meditation and spiritual growth. The universal appeal of rudraksha beads lies in their potential to enhance one's connection with the divine and promote inner harmony.
Types of Rudraksha Beads:
Rudraksha beads come in various types, each distinguished by the number of mukhis it possesses. Here are some of the most commonly found types:
Five Mukhi Rudraksha: This is the most common type and is believed to represent the five elements of nature. It is often used for meditation and prayer.
Four Mukhi Rudraksha: Associated with the four Vedas, this bead is said to enhance one's knowledge and intellect.
Six Mukhi Rudraksha: Linked to Lord Kartikeya, the six-faced bead is believed to boost willpower and creativity.
Seven Mukhi Rudraksha: This bead is associated with the Goddess Mahalakshmi and is thought to bring wealth and prosperity.
Eight Mukhi Rudraksha: It is linked to Lord Ganesha and is believed to remove obstacles from one's path.
Nine Mukhi Rudraksha: This bead is associated with Goddess Durga and is said to provide strength and courage.
Ten Mukhi Rudraksha: Representing Lord Krishna, it is believed to bestow divine protection and love.
Eleven Mukhi Rudraksha: Associated with Lord Hanuman, this bead is thought to enhance concentration and wisdom.
Twelve Mukhi Rudraksha: It is believed to be a symbol of Lord Surya and is associated with abundance and success.
The Benefits of Wearing Rudraksha Beads:
Now that we've explored the diverse types of Rudraksha beads, let's delve into the potential benefits of wearing them:
Spiritual Growth: Rudraksha beads are believed to aid in meditation, helping individuals achieve deeper states of consciousness and spiritual growth.
Stress Reduction: Wearing rudraksha beads close to the skin is thought to reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of calm and inner peace.
Enhanced Concentration: These beads are said to improve focus and concentration, making them ideal for students and professionals.
Health Benefits: Rudraksha beads are also believed to have positive effects on physical health, including reducing blood pressure and improving overall well-being.
Protection: Many wearers believe that rudraksha beads offer protection from negative energies and malevolent forces.
Harmonizing Chakras: Each type of rudraksha is associated with specific chakras, and wearing them is believed to help balance and align these energy centers.
Manifestation: Some individuals use rudraksha beads as Rudraksh mala for manifesting their desires and intentions.
How to Choose and Care for Rudraksha Beads:
When selecting rudraksha beads, it's essential to ensure their authenticity. Here are some tips:
Buy from a reputable source: Look for trusted sellers or websites like AstroPragyan that specialize in authentic Rudraksh gold chain.
Check for certifications: Genuine rudraksha beads often come with certificates of authenticity.
Know the type: Understand the properties and benefits associated with the specific type of rudraksha bead you wish to purchase.
Caring for rudraksha beads is relatively simple:
Keep them clean and dry.Avoid exposing them to chemicals or extreme temperatures.Store them in a clean, sacred place when not in use.
Conclusion:
Rudraksha beads have been revered for centuries for their potential to facilitate spiritual growth, promote well-being, and offer protection. Whether you're drawn to their aesthetic beauty or the spiritual significance they hold, rudraksha beads can be a valuable addition to your spiritual journey. Remember to choose authentic beads from reliable sources like AstroPragyan to fully experience their benefits and mystique. Embrace the wisdom of the Rudraksh ka ped, and let its sacred beads guide you on your path to spiritual enlightenment.

I would fit your argument into my model as saying that the GFDR should be near zero, as the equilibrium between business and green interests is not much affected by cumulative emissions. I'm aiming to define the model broadly enough that it can't so much 'break down' as just have coefficients of values very different than I have suggested.
I tend to think of the pressure from the business side as constant, whilst the pressure from the green side is something that is likely to increase over time dramatically as climate change results in more dramatic catastrophes, and hence that an exogenous emissions reduction forestalls reaching that point of urgency, which reduces pressure from the green side, offsetting the exogenous decrease.
Pressure for action on climate change is often driven by notions of needing to prevent a fixed level of warming, or only having 12 years left, which are derived from cumulative emissions. This dynamic causes mitigation policy to be increasing in cumulative emissions, giving a positive GFDR, whether or not anyone is explicitly thinking of it in budget terms. There are probably other smaller effects.
I think I've wrongly conflated two effects in my post: the sensitivity of current emissions to cumulative emissions, and the sensitivity of current emissions to recent exogenous shocks to emissions. The latter is likely to be much greater, as a result of poor emissions figures putting pressure on governments to act more- whereas historical emissions will put on far less pressure- and governments potentially having an internal notion of how much emission they can get away with. But that internal budget is a budget for current emissions, not cumulative emissions, so doesn't contribute to the sensitivity to cumulative emissions. This means it doesn't show up in the GFDR, in my definition. This budget would be determined by the balance between green and business interests.
The former is the only one that has the potential to compound continually over time leading to the government fuck coefficient going to 0. The sensitivity of policy to recent emissions will presumably cancel out some portion of the improvement over the course of a few years, then cease to be relevant, after which the effect would decay according to the GFDR. So it would show up as a near term pressure coefficient (NPC) between 0 and 1 that we multiply the GFDR. Giving a new formula:
Government fuck coefficient = NPC * (1 - GFDR)^t.
I think previously I was wrongly putting some of the NPC effect into the GFDR effect, implying that it compounds continually over time when it only compounds for a few years. So while it looks like this formula would give a lower government fuck coefficient, it will actually give higher one, because less offsetting effects are being included in the GFDR.
10% per year might be a reasonable figure for the sensitivity of current emissions to near-past emissions, but not to cumulative emissions as a whole. Let's say the impact decays by 10% for 5 years (the length of a government term in the UK) and there is no near-term effect thereafter. That gives an NPC of 0.59. Then the GFDR is a lot more up in the air, but probably a lot less than 0.1. Suppose that if 20% more cumulative CO2 had been emitted governments would be emitting 10% less. That's a reduction of 3.7 GTe per year for 300 GTe emitted, for a GFDR of 0.012. Unfortunately it's a completely different picture if the figure was 0.025, so order of magnitude guesses aren't terribly useful here.
The PED for carbon-intensive goods is basically the PED for goods in general, so there will be very little substitution effect, and an income elasticity near 1, giving a PED around one. Using the cost curve from this figure as a PES for all carbon-intensive goods, and saying it looks very approximately like a line through the origin, PES will be around 1. That gives a market fuck coefficient of 0.5.
So a ballpark estimate of the society fuck coefficient after 50 years would be 0.5*0.59*(1-0.012)^50 = 0.16
Better accounting for the impact via business might change this analysis, though that I think would result in a lower estimate of the government fuck coefficient.
It's often said, as a truism, that while climate change is caused by systems, your individual choices can still make a difference, but might not actually be true- not just that you are small, but that the difference your consumption makes is actually zero.
Standard economic analysis
The standard economic analysis is that if you buy more carbon-intensive goods, that has two effects: it increases the total quantity of carbon-intensive goods sold, and it increases the price of carbon-intensive goods (only marginally, because you are small).
This means that while you buying one unit of carbon-intensive goods doesn't increase the amount of carbon-intensive goods as sold by one, it still increases them, and the amount it increases it by depends on the price elasticities of demand and supply (i.e. the slopes of the curves). If supply is very inelastic, we expect it to make close to 0 difference, and if demand is very inelastic we expect it to make an almost one-for-one difference. Suppose PED = PES and you emitted one extra tonne of CO2, the net effect of that is only an extra half tonne of CO2.
Aside: do these diagrams actually work? Yes. This result seems counterintuitive: the price of electricity isn't going to be put up just because you used more electricity this year, so it isn't going to result in others using less - there will be no offset. And this is correct, the world comes in discrete changes. But if enough people use more electricity, prices will go up, and you have no way of knowing whether you're the one who'll push it over the edge or raise the price of electricity from 29p to 30p. So we just look at averages, and on average you will raise prices by the amount shown on this diagram (i.e. very small, because you are very small, but enough to offset an amount of consumption that matters for our purposes).
Accounting for the government
But this standard economic analysis takes place in a policy vacuum. I mean, the same welfare effect would also hold if the government's climate policy was optimal because something something envelope theorem, but the government's policy is ummmm not optimal. In any country. Governments are not trying to set a socially optimal rate of carbon tax (which would be crippling to many industries) they are trying to do something more like reduce emissions enough to satisfy an electorate that doesn't care much, and no further, because they don't want to shrink the economy.
In an idealised version of this strategy, individual actions actually have 0 effect, regardless of PED or PES, because of the policy feedback mechanism: a British person emits one less tonne of CO2 so the UK government go 'oh look an extra tonne of CO2 we can emit without exceeding our internal targets' and spend less on mitigation to cancel it out.
Whilst your individual effect is small and unlikely to be noticed by policymakers, many people's changes will be noticed, and your emissions might be the straw that broke the camel's back, so we can treat the government as if their targets are responding to your individual emissions, just like in the aside. Note it isn't the official targets that matter, but how much governments privately feel they can get away with.
If the government are decided to emit 500MTe, then 500MTe are going to be emitted by someone, regardless of if you're the one doing it. You didn't help the Bangladesh farmer who's losing their livelihood because of harsher monsoon seasons, you just helped Clyde who wants to pay less tax on his SUV.
This argument hinges on this policy feedback mechanism actually being one-for-one, which we don't know, and which is fundamentally an empirical question. Specifically in the long-run. I'm sure it's not actually one-for-one- and if we model the government as maximising some utility function of economy and environment, it can't be.
We would also need to multiply this 'do your actions have purpose (because government is a fuck)' coefficient by the 'do your actions have purpose (because markets is a fuck)' coefficient to find out the actual effect of your actions. The crux of my argument is that the government's fuck coefficient is likely to be very small.
What is the government's fuck coefficient?
The long-run government fuck coefficient is built up over years of repeatedly adjusting policy to look more like what the government wanted to do anyway: if the government undershoots their carbon budget one year, the government will want to take that as license to emit more the next year, and whilst this won't be one for one- it might be quite small- over many years it will add up to mean emissions were basically what they would have been anyway.
Policy and emissions are slow to adjust- maybe a year after you reduced emissions by a tonne, policy change adjustments have only offset it by 10%, leaving a government fuck coefficient of 0.9 which seems pretty good (it means you had 90% as much effect as you thought your were having). Then the next year the government has 0.9 extra tonnes in their budget, and again their policy only offsets 10% of that, leaving a government fuck coefficient of 0.81 after 2 years. This continues year after year, so that in 30 years time, the government fuck coefficient is 0.042- i.e. you think you've saved a tonne of CO2, but because of the policy feedback mechanism, your net effect is only 42kg. Lets call this 10% figure the government fuck decay rate (GFDR).
Maybe the GFDR is lower than that, which would mean your individual consumption has more impact for longer. But as long as this GFDR is constant over time, your impact exponentially decays over time. The government fuck coefficient goes to zero. Remember, this isn't your effect on annual emissions decaying over time, it's your effect on cumulative emissions - this means your individual actions really are being undone. Not that annual emissions adjust back to the status quo but cumulative emissions do.
The government fuck coefficient after t years is (1-GFDR)^t
Self criticism like some kind of Maoist
The one weak point in this analysis I can see is it assumes governments' emission preferences care about cumulative emissions, not just annual emissions - i.e. that governments will think they can get away with doing less this year because they did more last year, or ten years ago. This is what gives a GFDR that isn't 0. If they largely don't think like this, the GFDR could be way less than 0.1 per year, leading to a government fuck coefficient that isn't near 0 even decades in the future (and what really matters is what the effect is decades in the future when hopefully governments will doing the right amount of mitigation, at which point there is no more decay).
The GFDR might also decrease over time, as after a certain amount of time historical emissions may basically be considered water under the bridge.
But if the GFDR is anything close to 0.1, we have to accept that, bizarre as it seems, saving energy today doesn't actually result in there being less carbon in the air in 50 years.
This doesn't mean we should do nothing, but it means our actions should be entirely focused on shifting government preferences, rather than on changing consumption habits. Assuming my analysis is correct.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. i seriously cannot get over how RS tried to make Apollo and Artemis being Zeus' children be a shock
like how was that surprising
how was that a twist
was she running out of ideas for more "drama" or something
2. This is more of a rant about all modern retellings of the taking of Persephone, but LO is the most egregious example to me. I despise how much the story has been warped and twisted to make Hades seem like a good guy and Demeter as a bad guy. Persephone’s story was meant to represent the strong bond between mothers and daughters, and the grief of a mother when her daughter is married off and separated from her. It always pisses me off when it’s portrayed as a love story, which unfortunately, is how it’s always shown nowadays. The way Demeter is treated by the LO fanbase and RS herself angers me to no end. It’s so disheartening to see misogyny win yet again with the modern demonization of Persephone’s grieving mother.
3. What really bothers me is that new born infant Persephone has full done eye brows and teeth. Like holy fuck babies don't look like that did RS just really draw P's normal adult face on baby her???
4. I don't think Rachel is even reading the mythology right. It's not supposed to be a morality tale with clearly defined villains and heroes Even Zeus could be outsmarted, knocked down, and made to reflect on his bad choices, and he's the Top God. Rachel instead boiling down mythology to "good vs bad" with no shades of grey and needing the good guys to always be right with the bad guys always being wrong is just bad from a writing and interpretation standpoint. Even Disney gave them more nuance.
5. The de-twinkification of Thanatos and Eros should forever be a crime
6. I love when LO fans realize Amphitrite is also a nymph and they realize the world building makes no sense because surely if every other nymph is hated shouldn't she be too? Or is she just one of the "good ones"? Truly give it up for a white woman to think the gods needed divine racism to seem more ~real~, with their racism being framed as a good thing because all the marginalized nymphs are all bad and uppity save for the few "I have a nymph friend" excuses.
7. I just find it so creepy Hades' first look of Persephone is her being humiliated and then him lusting after her body before even glancing at her face. Like what is that telling us exactly? 99% of the time we only get his POV too. We get Hades' POV looking at her, his internal dialogue, his thoughts, his memories, more focus on his life and relationships, meanwhile the only time we ever got her POV was her being r//ped and murdering a village. She seems like an afterthought most of the time.
8. What I find frustrating is RS has removed any sort of meaning or symbolism in P's design. The red eyes used to symbolize her inner darkness, only to now show up at random and go away just as fast. the long hair used to be tied to her strong emotions but now come up whenever it fitS better with her outfit, and now claiming her pink tone is from "a million perfect roses" is a laughable attempt to make her unique when the flower nymphs are the same color. She can't even keep her own lore in line.
9. IDK how we're supposed to buy Persephone has any guilt or even cares about her nymph "sisters" when she purposely ran away from the law instead of turning herself in, tried to sob story her way out of punishment, and tried to distract from her crimes with Elysium plans, and more so never once showed she remembered the nymphs or even tried to see them in the Underworld despite working and living there for weeks and having direct access with the King of the Dead. She's all talk and no reflection.
10. What I don't get with so many HxP retellings (and LO is the most egregious example) is they think the romance can ONLY come about with the destruction of Demeter and Persephone's relationship to prop her relationship up with Hades, which seems so reductive to me. A half-way decent writer should allow for Persephone to love them both, yet no one seems to even try. Their idea of the "reclaimed" myth is that Persephone's world starts and ends at Hades, and Demeter is to be vilified.
