You guyssssss!!! I was gonna try ashwagandha for my anxiety 😭
I didn't know it was addictive wtf!
it is 😔😔and not many people talk about it at all 😔😔and there is very little information about it online 😔😔however during my days of ashwagandha induced suffering, i found people on reddit who had similar experiences and i finally felt SO seen and it gave me strength in my recovery journey.

taking ash is like placing bets, its 50-50, you might benefit from it immensely but on the other hand, you might get worse 💀
at my lowest point, i couldnt get out of bed and i practically crawled to the bathroom where i lay covered in piss for god knows how long 🙃bc i didnt have the energy to stand up or go back to bed, i couldnt even speak properly and everything that came out of my mouth was slurry asf
again, everybody has different experiences and i am in no way saying that this might happen to you but tbh, i dont know if its worth the risk/potential side effects 😭😭😭
there are soooo many other ways to deal with anxiety that come with minimal risk
i highly recommend frequency music!! its scientifically proven to work (on humans and animals) bc listening to music of a certain frequency can help lower our heart/breathing rates and relax.
when my ash trip was realllyyy bad and i was experiencing panic attacks at 6am, id listen to them and they worked for me<3

Hi dear! First of all, the mandatory reminder that I am not a doctor so you should always pair your consultations to traditional authorities and folk healers (curanderos, yerberos, rootworkers, etc) with a visit to the corresponding doctor or licensed medical professional.
Also, always, always research each of these herbal allies before consumption and look for dosages, contraindications and drug interactions. You need to be making educated choices regarding what you're drinking and why, and how it's going to affect your body. Check with a professional when in doubt, describe to them your goals and why you want to use said herbal ally.
With that being said, yes, I have some recommendations. If you're the type to enjoy tea (and who isn't!) you can try drinking adaptogens in the morning, that is, herbal allies that help your body deal with inner and outer stressors and normalize everything. There's an immense variety of them, my personal favorite is mate (Ilex paraguariensis), which is common here in south america but other popular choices are ginseng (Panax ginseng) and ashwagandha (Withania somnifera).
Depending on what the other symptoms are (if you're anxious, depressed, have headaches or bleeding between periods, etc) there's different herbs that may help to adress the source of each of those issues. St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) is common for depression, irritability and anxiety related to hormonal and reproductive health issues but has many drug interactions so consult with a doctor first. Chamomile works better for me personally, and has almost to no side effects or contraindications, but it is milder than st. john's wort and works in your body differently too. Each person's needs are different. Damiana (Turnera aphrodisiaca, Turnera diffusa) is a good hormone balancer and nervine, but it's not recommended for long-term use. Hoffmann recommends Vitex agnus-castus as a overall hormonal normalizer regardless of what hormone is causing issues, but says any bitter tonic can help, and there's many depending on which systems and symptoms you want to adress alongside the mood swings.
Basically, we'd need to see what other symptoms alongside mood swings you have and what the source of the issue is (if it's a specific hormone or stressor or what's the trigger to the problems you're facing, so we can know which systems we need to be addressing more holistically), while also being careful to not cause any harmful interactions with drugs or medication you may already be taking for these or other issues. SO.........
I've been writing a short story with BG3 Dal in which he makes some mushroom tea with dried mushrooms from the Underdark. And after looking up different mushrooms and headcanoning flavors and such, I thought, hey, why not try a mushroom tea and see what it's like?
Lots of mushrooms and molds are bitter. Dal likes bitter. I don't. But I got a mushroom tea sampler that has Chaga tea in it, known for being bitter. This particular flavor was Chaga Ashwagandha Butterscotch Cream. (Ashwagandha being a controversial ingredient for potential side effect reasons, but a single cup of tea is nothing. Apparently it is or has been trending on tiktok though as an ~herbal health~ fad so like, watch out)
So...
FOR BLORBO SCIENCE!! I tried mushroom tea
I tried it about 2 weeks ago but never got around to writing about it because I felt a little silly and wasn't sure how to start, but I realized it's my blog and I can be as disorganized as I want.
So. We start with opening the package itself to get the tea bag out. And right away it's like.. it's obviously fungal. There's a distinct fungus smell. So much so that if I had opened up any other produce and gotten that smell, I'd have assumed mold. But it's mushrooms
I make the tea and steep it, and the smell is slightly less fungus and a bit more like.. medicinal. But not in a good way. Like ough this is going to be bitter medicine. As you get used to the smell, though, the notes of butterscotch started coming through.
I drank it. The bitterness was there, but it wasn't the main flavor, more of like an aftertaste, like you get with coffee. You taste the butterscotch a little more than you smell it. All in all it tasted better than it smelled, but it was still a bit bitter for me, so I added some sweet creamer, and the bitterness almost went away entirely.
Once I was done with it, I got some acid reflux and a little burpy (not the tea's fault, that's my fault for drinking hot tea in the middle of the night), but the burpy-ness did reveal an unpleasant aftertaste of like... If you've ever had one of the red circular advil tablets and let it touch your tongue by accident while swallowing it? That medicinal bitterness is what the aftertaste was like.
And although the tea itself wasn't bad! I'd almost say the aftermath wasn't worth the tea.
And, going back to writing Dal, we have to remember that this Chaga tea is made to be more generally palatable with the butterscotch, but Dal adds no such sweetness to his tea--which is also made from the dried mushroom itself, making it more flavorful.
Moral of the story: RIP to anyone trying Dal's tea if you don't like bitterness. You're just drinking almost-medicine at that point lmao
but it was a fun experiment

So, Here Are Some Teas That Will Make Your Sex Life So Much Better

Even though we’re officially exiting one season (winter) and entering another (spring), that doesn’t mean that your tea game has to slow down. Aside from the fact that springtime tends to still have some pretty chilly nights, there is nothing like a tall glass of herbal iced tea that’s been sweetened with honey and a bit of fresh fruit on the days when it’s warmer outdoors.
And while we’re on the topic of teas, why not consume some that will make things hotter in the bedroom? Yep, there are certain ones out here (12 in this article) that have some strong data to support the fact that they can do wonders for your libido — on a few different levels.
So, after reading this, commit to picking up some loose-leaf tea (oftentimes it’s best). Boil for 20 minutes, let it cool, put it in a mason jar and let it steep for 48 hours (with your favorite sweetener). Then add some ice and take it all in. You’ll have an all-natural concoction that will get you maximum herb intake and quite possibly some pretty intense orgasms too (whew-whee!).
1. Ashwagandha Tea
If there’s one artist who tickles me as much as he low-key terrifies me when it comes to the random ish that comes out of his mouth, it’s Kevin Gates. On the laughing tip, I literally cried as I was reading the comments under this particular Twitter post because it’s clear that either he doesn’t know how to pronounce maca (maa·kuh) or ashwagandha (aash·wuh·gaan·duh) or he was really going out of his way to make the cadence work in this song. LOL. Anyway, he does help to prove the point that this herb is that one when it comes to boosting libido levels.
Since ashwagandha has a solid reputation for reducing stress and anxiety, improving athletic performance, and even making depression-related symptoms easier to bear, it would make perfect sense that it’s known for being an aphrodisiac too.
There are studies that support that it can be helpful when it comes to strengthening women’s orgasms, in part, by reducing vaginal dryness and discomfort during intercourse. Some studies reveal that it can help to increase testosterone levels in both men and women as well.
A word of caution on this one, though. If you’re diabetic, breastfeeding, have an overactive thyroid, or take sedatives, run this one by your physician first. As with just about any herb, ashwagandha can be potent and come with unwanted side effects for certain types of individuals.
2. Green Tea
Okay, so from what I’ve read and researched, on average, a cup of brewed coffee is gonna have somewhere around 96 mg of caffeine per cup while that same cup of green tea is gonna land at around 28 mg. So, if you’re someone who wants to ease off of caffeine a bit this year or you want a pick-me-up that doesn’t pack as big of a punch as coffee does, green tea will do it. Some other benefits include the fact that it’s loaded with antioxidants, it can help to improve your brain function, it fights off the free radicals that are in your system and it can help you to lose weight.
On the sex tip, aside from the fact that the caffeine that’s in it can give you a boost of energy on the days/nights when the mind is willing but the flesh is weak, green tea also can improve and increase blood circulation which results in longer erections for him and better orgasms for you.
3. Saffron Tea
The brief backstory on saffron is it’s a spice that comes from a flower. It’s said to have originated in Greece and is one of the most popular spices when it comes to cooking. It ain’t cheap, I’ll just tell you that now. Still, it’s got some benefits that are worth noting.
Saffron reduces body inflammation, helps with weight loss, is effective at minimizing PMS-related symptoms, helps to put you into a better mood, and is said to lower blood sugar levels and heart disease risks too.

Also, because cinnamon is spicy, the turn-up of heat in your body can also heighten your arousal levels.
7. Maca Tea
If you clicked on that Twitter link, you heard Kevin (attempt to) combine maca with ashwagandha — and honestly, that’s one hell of a combination, y’all. That’s because maca is well-known for being an aphrodisiac too.
Before getting into how/why, some other benefits of this herb are it helps to keep free radicals out of your system, improves your memory, and is also pretty good at reducing symptoms that are directly associated with menopause.
As far as coitus goes, it’s got all kinds of ways to improve it. Maca has been proven to increase a man’s sex drive, make sex more pleasant for postmenopausal women, improve a man’s sperm quality and put you and your partner into a better mood. So, if you’ve never had a good reason to try maca before, now you’ve got a few of ‘em.
8. Ginger Tea
Ginger is another popular spice that comes with some strong medicinal properties. That’s why a lot of people use it to treat motion sickness, keep their blood pressure in check, help keep cancer cells at bay, and to reduce bodily inflammation.
Since ginger is also seen as being a natural stimulant that increases blood circulation while reducing oxidative stress, it’s just one more tea that can help your sex life out. Oh, and if you’re trying to get pregnant, that’s another reason to add it to your diet. If you’ve always wondered what rose tea is made from, you can literally create it yourself by steeping fresh rose petals. As far as the reasons why it can be good for your health, rose tea is high in vitamins C and E, it contains properties that help to lower your blood pressure, the polyphenols in it can help to reduce pain and discomfort, it can help to keep your skin radiant and your hair healthy and it’s a great immunity booster.
And why would your sex life appreciate it so much? Rosewater, period, helps to decrease stress and increase blood flow. The calmer you are and the more blood that’s flowing to your genital regions, the better your sexual experiences can be!
10. Spearmint Tea
Off the rip, one of the things that I like about any mint tea is it can help to make my breath smell fresher. Your sex life will appreciate ginseng because it’s another tea that helps to treat erectile dysfunction by reducing oxidative stress that may be lurking around in a man’s blood vessels (especially in the ones down below). Ginseng is also a winner because it can give women more energy to even want to have sex. Definitely something to keep in mind on the days after work when you want some, but you need a pick-me-up to get the engines started (if you know what I mean).

BY FAR (and yes, I am yelling it), what it’s best known for is getting bedrooms in check. After being a regular contributor for about four years and being (eh hem) MIA in 2022, Shellie is back penning for the platform (did you miss her? LOL).
In some ways, nothing has changed and in others, everything has. For now, she'll just say that she's working on the 20th anniversary edition of her first book, she's in school to take life coaching to another level and she's putting together a platform that supports and encourages Black men because she loves them from head to toe.
Other than that, she still works with couples, she's still a doula, she's still not on social media and her email contact ([email protected]) still hasn't changed (neither has her request to contact her ONLY for personal reasons; pitch to the platform if you have story ideas).
Life is a funny thing but if you stay calm, moments can come full circle and this is one of them. No doubt about it.

Sleep supplements that have actually worked really well for me
Before I start, the supplements I’m referring to are:
- Magnesium L-Threonate - Brand: Life Extension
- L-Theanine - Brand: now
- Apigenin - Brand: Liposomal
I’m sure there are other brands out there which are preferred, these are the ones that were accessible to me based on where I live.

I just wanted to take some time to drop my personal experience/success here in case it can help anyone else who is struggling with sleep.
My whole life has been a struggle with sleep and insomnia. Both before and after I started adhd medication (concerta 54mg). I’ve been diagnosed with adhd about a year ago.
- It would take me at least 2 hours to fall asleep.
- I would wake up multiple times during the night.
- Had very vivid dreams, to the point I had to ask people if something happened in real life or if it was a dream. Mostly anxiety inducing dreams.
- I would be wide awake until sunrise.
My partner has helped me get into an evening routine since we met, which I really appreciated. But still, most of the nights I would experience insomnia, evening anxiety and mind-racing, bad dreams or interrupted sleep.
After listening to Andrew Huberman’s sleep podcast, we both tried to implement some of his tips into our night routine. But I still had sleep issues no matter what routine I tried. I.e restrict phone use prior to bed, dim all the lights to kickstart melatonin production etc.
He then decided to get me these 3 supplements that Huberman recommends for sleep because my overall mental health, sleep and anxiety levels were not great. We had both discussed it and thought it would be nice if I tried a different approach to see what happens.
I had mentioned my sleep struggles and evening anxiety to my psychiatrist multiple times, but his response would be that it’s normal because of adhd, as well as stimulant medication.
Since I started taking the supplements just under 2 months ago, they have honestly been working so well for me. I have considered that it may be placebo, but the outcome has been too good that it’s hard for me to ignore.
I don’t even know when I fall asleep anymore. I’m literally gone shortly after I get into bed — but I don’t feel drowsy prior to that. I have such deep sleep that I now wake up feeling fresh. I used to be a light sleeper, where I would wake up with any sound or movement in the room.
I even feel like it’s improved my brain fog a lot more than just concerta on its own (just a personal observation).
My constant vivid nightmares/dreams have gone away, I honestly can’t recall the last time I woke up to a bad dream. I don’t remember my dreams anymore, but I can’t tell you if i’m just not dreaming or if they’re just not as intense anymore…
No interrupted sleep since starting the supplements.
I have tried melatonin and over the counter sleep-aid, but I never really liked the side effects the morning after. Also melatonin never really helped my sleep quality.
I just wanted to mention it here in case it helps anyone else as well, because I’ve honestly been feeling soooo good and keep thanking my partner for getting me the supplements. I know I would’ve never done it myself out of procrastination.
However, these are just based on my personal experience and I’m not at all saying that everyone else will have the same experiences. I just want to give my review of some sorts, as someone who has adhd and has struggled with sleep, in case anyone has been curious about these or is looking to try something different, specifically for sleep.
I would recommend checking out Huberman’s podcasts on sleep, and adhd as well :)
I just wanted to add that I remember him mentioning that Apigenin could cause vivid dreams for some, but I personally haven’t experienced that until now.
Just make sure to drink enough water since they’re water soluble.
Other supplements that I take (in the morning) that may have some effect on this too:
- ashwagandha (short-term) - Brand: Jarrow Formulas —please do look into it and consult with a profession before trying this, since it can interact with underlying health conditions and medication. Recommended by all sources I have looked at to take it short term. I don’t take it for adhd purposes, I just decided to try it out because of stress and mood. There isn’t enough research to prove its benefits though, just a heads up.
- Algae Omega-3 - Brand: Garden of Life
- B-Complex - Brand: Nature’s Bounty
My day supplements are on and off as I forget to take them for a few days every now and then.
But I’ve tried to stay consistent with the sleep supplements in the last month and a half.
