“To Shape a Dragon’s Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose is an early contender for the best fantasy novel of 2023. It’s one of those books that you have to thrust into the hands of everyone you know, just so you’ll have people to talk about it with. An Indigenous girl, Anequs, finds an egg, which hatches to produce a dragon that’s bonded to her — but according to the laws of the Anglish, who’ve colonized this alternate version of North America, Anequs must go to a special school to learn to control her baby dragon. If she fails her classes, her dragon, Kasaqua, will be slaughtered. What follows is reminiscent of R.F. Kuang’s “Babel”: Anequs is one of two Indigenous people at an elite school full of colonizers, who expect her to assimilate to their more “civilized” mores — but Anequs resists any suggestion that her own people’s knowledge or culture is inferior. Blackgoose’s worldbuilding is rich and fascinating, from the Norse-inspired Anglish culture, to the complex layers of Anequs’s society on Naquipaug island, to the alchemical properties of dragons’ exhalations. But what makes “Dragon’s Breath” such an absorbing read is Anequs herself: clever, resourceful, generous and uncompromising in the face of colonial condescension. This novel has garden parties and classroom scenes that are more suspenseful than most books’ epic battles.”
—The Washington Post
“[To Shape A Dragon’s Breath] has strong The Traitor Baru Cormorant vibes… it will reshape epic fantasy itself, in addition to the breath of a dragon.”
—LitHub
“To Shape a Dragon’s Breath is a remarkable novel that is bound to be a staple of fantasy shelves for years to come.”
—BuzzFeed
“Tender, thrilling and brimming with fire, this indigenous dragon story is one of the more exciting books I’ve had the pleasure of reading recently.”
—In Between Drafts
“Throughout the book, Blackgoose digs up the older roots of fantasy and plants new life with original ideas… a daring, entirely hot, take on dragonriders and worldbuilding… To Shape a Dragon’s Breath is one blazing epic gulp of a fantastic tale. Queer, anticolonialist, and full of dragons. Moniquill Blackgoose’s writing is easy to love: cutthroat, smooth, and reminds me of a story being told over an open fire.”
—Grimdark Magazine
“This is a classic fantasy at its finest, in which a young, underestimated outcast is introduced to a magical boarding school and all the friendships, drama, prejudice, and romance that immersion entails. The indigenous quest to maintain culture and identity within a paralyzingly restrictive imperialism determined to stamp out natives and their beliefs, and Anequs’ stubborn will to remain herself, create a fresh take on this setup and make this a must-read high-fantasy series. Blackgoose's focus on how storytelling and myth influence our culture and worldviews is also compelling. The relationships are exciting, the queer and polyamorous representation appealing, and it’s easy to fall hard for Anequs, her world, and her love for her dragon.”
—Booklist, STARRED review
“Dragons are never out of style, but To Shape a Dragon’s Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose is set to explore them in a way that feels incredibly fresh and intriguing in this indigenous-inspired fantasy novel.”
—Fansided
“Moniquill Blackgoose combines dragon mythology with sharp commentary on colonization and the struggles of indigenous populations in "To Shape a Dragon's Breath."
—PopSugar
“The fantasy and wonder of To Shape a Dragon’s Breath started immediately. But it didn’t feel like I was thrown into the story; more like I was joining characters and a world that existed without me. To Shape a Dragon’s Breath didn’t feel like there was an on-ramp to the world or culture. It would have been difficult in many books, but Blackgoose crafted a deep culture, society, and world that felt engaging to follow.”
—Lightspeed Magazine
“Blackgoose blends Indigenous history with fantastical beasts, taking themes of inequality and social agency in new directions. An excellent crossover novel for adults and young adults alike.”
—Library Journal
“Between the social commentary (couched in the fantasy world setting), the action, and detailed world-building, there’s a lot to love. It’s an engrossing story/world, and having the Indigenous perspective makes it hit all the harder.”
—Cinelinx
“To Shape a Dragon’s Breath has so many things going for it. It centers on a queer, poly, Indigenous character, dragon-riding and a boarding school setting. With a focus on dismantling colonialism and taking back heritage, what more could you ask for in a young adult fantasy?”
—Geek Girl Authority
“Incredible.”

Looper article on the character of Tom Keen.
Tumblr media
Unassuming school teacher, cold-blooded killer, devoted family man — Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) has played many parts on NBC's "The Blacklist." Tom has flipped the script on just about everyone he has come into contact with. Even though he was first contracted to infiltrate Liz's (Megan Boone) life as her husband, things do not turn out as planned. Through no fault of his own, Tom falls for Liz and soon realizes that the only loyalty he has is to his wife. Not always on the side of righteousness, Tom's complexities make him one of the most fascinating characters of the series, and it was a shame to see him go.
But being Liz's ride-or-die had not always been in the cards for the character. Executive Producer John Eisendrath has been quite open about plans to kill off Tom early in the series (via The Observer). Yet, after Eggold was brought on board that reality became quite impossible. The actor's nuanced interpretation of the character meant that the series would have to take Tom in a different direction. But before the spy became completely devoted to Liz and the child they had together, creatives had a different idea of where to take him.
You thought Tom was dark already
Tumblr media
Characters full of innocence are a rare commodity in "The Blacklist." To catch all of the criminals on Red's (James Spader) list, ethical compromises must be made — something that Liz learns in part due to her marriage. At the end of the pilot, Liz finds a secret compartment in her house full of money and fake passports with Tom's picture. This was the beginning of the reveal of who Tom is. And although he eventually proves his loyalty to Liz, love was not always in the cards for the duplicitous character.
"[T]he original incarnation of the character was actually much darker than what we did. It was much more violent and evil, like horrendous," Ryan Eggold shared with PopSugar. "But that character has been scrapped, and there's something else happening." The final version of Tom that makes it into "The Blacklist" is not one to be trifled with. He murders without remorse and lies indiscriminately, but that is not all there is to him. He may have a particular set of skills and a chilly disposition to get done what needs doing, but he does it all for love. After Liz finds out that he was employed to be in her life, their relationship is rocky at best. But through reconciliation and having Agnes (Katherine Kell), the most sympathetic character in the series, they make amends. At the end of it all, Tom finds redemption — which is a far cry from being pure evil.
Tom is redeemed
Tumblr media
Ryan Eggold's command of Tom's character became so undeniable, one show could no longer contain him. Instead of being killed off like the original plan, creatives realized there was something even bigger for the actor down the line.
"Played by the wrong person, Tom could have been entirely unsympathetic and somebody we would have needed to kill off after 17 episodes," creator Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Tonight. When Liz finds out Tom has been deceiving her, she wastes no time in shooting him. But that isn't the end of Tom, and soon the redemption that he finds on "The Blacklist" became a prime opportunity for a spin-off series. Teaming up with his biological mother Scottie Hargrave (Famke Janssen), Tom embarks on a path to make up for his past misdeeds in "The Blacklist: Redemption."
"This is a guy who's a spy and assassin and orphan, but also someone who's discovering his ability to love for the first time and developing his first genuine relationship," Ryan Eggold elaborated. Just as Liz grapples with her own identity, her husband has a similar path. He learns that his life as an operative started when he was kidnapped from Scottie when he was three years old. And although "The Blacklist: Redemption" was short-lived, it didn't stop Tom from carrying out his final wish before leaving "The Blacklist." He redeems himself by fighting with Liz until the brutal end, even though it takes his life.

🦇 Good evening, bookish bats! We FINALLY got our tree. To make today shine even brighter, the amazing Jo @radio.reader sent me A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum @etafrum. I had the great fortune of reading this book in 2019, but now that I have a physical copy, I can't wait to dive into this story again.
🇵🇸 Etaf Rum is by far my favorite Palestinian-American author, and as a Palestinian writer myself, I've never felt so inspired to get my own story of growing up as a Palestinian-American published. If you haven't already, you NEED to grab this book!
🌙 The New York Times bestseller and Read with Jenna TODAY SHOW Book Club pick tells the story of three generations of Palestinian-American women struggling to express their individual desires within the confines of their Arab culture in the wake of shocking intimate violence in their community.
🌙 Palestine, 1990. Seventeen-year-old Isra prefers reading books to entertaining the suitors her father has chosen for her. Over the course of a week, the naïve and dreamy girl finds herself quickly betrothed and married, and is soon living in Brooklyn. There Isra struggles to adapt to the expectations of her oppressive mother-in-law Fareeda and strange new husband Adam, a pressure that intensifies as she begins to have children—four daughters instead of the sons Fareeda tells Isra she must bear.
🌙 Brooklyn, 2008. Eighteen-year-old Deya, Isra’s oldest daughter, must meet with potential husbands at her grandmother Fareeda’s insistence, though her only desire is to go to college. Deya can’t help but wonder if her options would have been different had her parents survived the car crash that killed them when Deya was only eight. But her grandmother is firm on the matter: the only way to secure a worthy future for Deya is through marriage to the right man.
🌙 But fate has a will of its own, and soon Deya will find herself on an unexpected path that leads her to shocking truths about her family—knowledge that will force her to question everything she thought she knew about her parents, the past, and her own future.

The only i will ever ackowlage the Aegon's prophecy is if it turns out it was send to the Aegon the Conquer in the dream beacuse some shadowbinder was a bored that day and decided to send a dream to Aegon just for funsies
It's just an idea that GRRM is developing. It's in his head but we don't know how he will write it in the last books.
While promoting Fire and Blood in 2018 GRRM called this idea of Aegon's knowledge about the Long Night "speculation:"
“(…) Aegon finally decided to take over Westeros and unify the Seven Kingdoms that existed at that time under a single rule, there is a lot of speculation that in some sense he saw what was coming 300 years later and wanted to unify the Seven Kingdoms to be better prepared for the threat that he eventually saw coming from the north, the threat that we’re dealing with in A Song of Ice And Fire.”
—George R.R. Martin on Balerion & Aegon
Then Elio García gave this kind of clarification, saying George was talking about "speculation from fans:"
This video would give the impression that that speculation is in the book… but in fact, it is not. There is nothing like it whatsoever in F&B. George is referring to speculation from fans.
That he brings it up at all may indeed mean fans should give this theory some credence. But I’d suggest that he’s bringing it up just as a way to bridge the content of F&B to ASoIaF/GoT, because after all this is a video aimed at making people who are familiar with the latter interested in buying the former.
—Elio García
The key line here is:
"He’s bringing it up just as a way to bridge the content of F&B to ASoIaF/GoT."
Because this is exactly what Ryan Condal, HOT D Show runner, is saying:
While speaking with Insider, Popsugar, and Metacritic during a press junket, “House of the Dragon” cocreator Ryan Condal explained how this scene was based on new information Martin gave him during the early writing process. Martin said Aegon was a “dreamer” — a name for Targaryens who had prophetic dreams.
“That was the detail that George actually gave us early in the story break — the idea that Aegon the Conqueror was himself a dreamer and that’s what motivated the conquest,” Condal said. “Which he mentioned casually in conversation, as he often does with huge pieces of information like that.”
(...) “It really changed our thinking of the way we saw the Targaryen reign and what it was all about,” Condal said. “The fact that Aegon had this knowledge — or perceived that he had this knowledge, because it is just a dream, you don’t know whether it’s going to come true — but that he pursued the Conquest thinking that this was an imminent problem.”
(...) “We took George’s idea and spun it dramatically for 'House of the Dragon,’” Condal said. “This idea that at some point in Aegon’s life as he got older, he must have realized the White Walkers weren’t coming for dinner during his lifetime.”
“Then we decided that if he believed in this enough to conquer Westeros, he surely would have believed in it enough to pass the idea on,” Condal said. “So we had this become the legacy that the Targaryens have and they pass it from king to heir as a reminder that the Iron Throne is a privilege and it’s a duty and a responsibility.”
He continued: “You have to improve the kingdom and make it stronger and more united and not use it as a pursuit for selfish game. We’ll see how that hangs on as our story develops.”
—'House of the Dragon' cocreator explains the big Targaryen reveal at the end of the first episode
Key lines:
“We took George’s idea and spun it dramatically for 'House of the Dragon.’”
“Then we decided that if he believed in this enough to conquer Westeros, he surely would have believed in it enough to pass the idea on.”
“So we had this become the legacy that the Targaryens have and they pass it from king to heir as a reminder that the Iron Throne is a privilege and it’s a duty and a responsibility.”
This means, that the only thing from George is the idea of Aegon's dream about the Long Night. The part that since Aegon's time every Targaryen King passed the prophecy to their heirs is all made up by the HOT D Showrunners. This is even more evident in this other interview:
“He [George R.R. Martin] told us very early on in the room—just as he casually mentions the fact that Aegon the Conqueror was a dreamer. He saw a vision of the White Walkers coming across the wall and sweeping over the land with cold and darkness. And but it never made the history book because [Aegon] never told anyone, or at least the people they told didn’t tell the history to the history writers. So it’s in George’s head.”
(...) “And at some point, it will come out, as Martin told us,” Condal continued. “So, you know, with his permission, of course, we infused that into the story because it was such a great way to create resonance with the original show. One of the things we struggled with is that there are 170 years of gap between our show and the birth of Daenerys Targaryan as you’re told in the opening titles.” he said, “How do you create that resonance? You don’t have any characters that survive but these ideas and these concepts of this existential threat to Westeros that we know as fans and watchers of the original show are coming. ”
—There's a Secret to House of the Dragon's Big Game of Thrones Secret
Key lines:
[Aegon] never told anyone, or at least the people they told didn’t tell the history to the history writers. So it’s in George’s head.” (...) “And at some point, it will come out, as Martin told us.”
With his permission, of course, we infused that into the story because it was such a great way to create resonance with the original show.
Condal is basically repeating what Elio García said in 2018, the same time this new show was developing. They are using the idea of Aegon's knowledge of the Long Night (that it's still only in George's head) as a link between GOT and HOT D.
So, again, the only thing from George is Aegon's dream. The part that since Aegon's time every Targaryen King passed the prophecy to their heirs is all made up by the HOT D Showrunners.
But even the idea of Aegon's dream is only in George's head, we don't really know how he will write it in the last books.
Thanks for your message :)

Book Blurb: From the author of Love & Other Disasters, named a "must‑read" by USA Today, PopSugar, SheReads, and Harper Bazaar, comes a sparkling grumpy-meets-sunshine rom-com featuring two men's sweeping journey across the Western wilderness. Alexei Lebedev’s journey on the Pacific Crest Trail began with a single snake. And it was angling for the hot stranger who seemed to have appeared out of thin air. Lex was prepared for rattlesnakes, blisters, and months of solitude. What he wasn’t prepared for was Ben Caravalho. But somehow—on a 2,500-mile trail—Alexei keeps running into the outgoing and charismatic hiker with golden-brown eyes, again and again. It might be coincidence. Then again, maybe there’s a reason the trail keeps bringing them together . . . Ben has made his fair share of bad decisions, and almost all of them involved beautiful men. And yet there’s something about the gorgeous and quietly nerdy Alexei that Ben can’t just walk away from. Surely a bad decision can’t be this cute and smart. And there are worse things than falling in love during the biggest adventure of your life. But when their plans for the future are turned upside down, Ben and Alexei begin to wonder if it’s possible to hold on to something this wild and wonderful.
Review:
The Pacific Crest Trial... two people dealing with falling in love after the struggles of their pasts, and the possibility of new love on this journey across the Western Wilderness. Alexei Lebedev has turned off his phone and set off on the PCT to become a new person, Alexei 2.0, he wants this adventure to help him find peace and confidence, and a 2,500 mile trail is going to give him the time to do it... except he keeps running into the handsome and charismatic hiker who just happens to be on the same trail as him...
Ben has had a history of dating people who break his heart and yet when he meets the gorgeous and shy but nerdy Alexei, he can’t walk away from him. When given the opportunity Ben suggests they both travel together... and soon both of them are hiking together, sleeping in the same space, getting to know each other, and possibly healing one another. This was a cute story about dealing with the difficulties of accepting yourself and dealing with the fallout of coming out to your family when they wont accept you. Both Ben and Alexei have been hurt but they both deeply love and cherish each other and it was sweet to get to see them fall for one another and grow as people from their past difficulties.
*Thanks Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Forever for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Book 6 of 2022!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The circus arrives without warning and is only open at night. Behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway. Two young magicians, Celia and Marco, have been trained since childhood to compete with one another but, unknown to them, only one can be left standing. Despite everything, Celia and Marco fall headfirst into love. True love or not though the game must go on.
Content Warnings: child abuse, death, suicide, blood, emotional abuse, death of parent, sexual content, suicide
What Did I Think?
What is weird about this book is that I truly didn’t think I would enjoy it very much. I mostly went into it thinking well at least I can say I gave it a go. It has a lot of elements I don’t really enjoy such as star crossed lovers, historical fiction, and magical realism. Somehow, I loved it regardless of this.
It was difficult to follow in parts as it kept skipping the time period it was in and whose POV it was speaking from. Due to that, it was sometimes quite difficult to get sucked into the story.
But past that, it was a true story. It was magical and whimsical and beautiful. The atmosphere was amazing and I’ve been interested in reading about books with circuses in them ever since and it made me think maybe historical fiction and fantasy aren’t so bad after all.
Prompts
This fits the Popsugar prompt of “A book set on a plane, train or cruiseship” and the 52 Book Challenge of “A Character With Superhuman Ability”

Should Schools Call Home When Kids Change Gender Identity?
State laws and regulations attacking the LGBTQ+ community continue to pop up all throughout the country. One analysis found that over the past two years, at least 306 bills have been introduced that specifically target trans people, and 86 percent of those target trans youth. You're probably familiar with some of the policies targeting trans youth athletes, but more recently, legislation is moving off the fields and into the classroom. In some schools around the country, administrators are now mandated to notify parents if their kids change their gender identification or pronouns at school. Alabama, Florida, and Virginia, for example, have all "passed sweeping laws or issued guidance that prohibit schools from withholding information about gender identity from parents," according to The New York Times. And even school districts are attempting to pass similar policies, all of which go against long-standing data showing that safe, supportive schools are lifesaving for many kids. Still, some parents and experts argue that caregivers have the right to know. But what about what's best for the child? Or, how should one respond if their child's school notifies them about their identity? Ahead, experts explain the potential dangers of these policies, what parents can do if they receive a call like this, and how best to support the kids involved. The Risks of Children Being "Outed" by Their School When it comes to LGBTQ+ youth who choose to change their pronouns or identity at school, calling their unsuspecting parents is more than just tattling. Jillian Amodio, LMSW, a social worker and college professor who works with LGBTQ+ youth, says doing so could cause very real harm. "The act of outing someone can be incredibly dangerous and can be a massive violation of privacy that can lead to traumatic outcomes," she tells POPSUGAR. "When people are outed without their consent, it can lead to fear, shame, anger, trauma, panic, and abuse. It can lead to detrimental and even deadly consequences." Amodio says these policies might remove "the only safe space children have, especially if their home is a volatile environment." This can be particularly dangerous if teachers do not know how the news will be received by the family or what the consequences might be. She also argues that if a child does not wish to tell their parents about their gender identification or pronoun change, it's important to respect their hesitation. For example, a child might fear violent or abusive backlash, and safety is of the utmost importance. "Children are not the property of their parents, and they have rights of their own that must be preserved." What About a Parent's Right to Information? In many of the policies that mandate disclosing when a child uses different pronouns or gender expression at school than at home, the reasoning centers on the belief that a parent has a right to information on their child and that refusing to disclose it violates their rights as the child's guardian. Amodio counters that argument, arguing that the right to information isn't the top priority. "When looking at information regarding a child's personal identity, a parent's right to information should never supersede a child's right to privacy," she says. Michelle Forcier, MD, MPH, FAAP, a board-certified pediatrician and Folx Health clinician, adds that "there has not been a professional medical or mental health study, report, or policy that recommends 'outing' an LGBTQIA+ person before they are ready, before they have a plan, and before they give their permission." Amethysta Herrick, PhD, a mom to a 12-year-old son, tells POPSUGAR that school policies requiring parents to be notified may only serve parents who might not know because their child isn't comfortable sharing their gender identity or pronouns with them. Instead, she argues the policy is "nothing but harmful" for students and would allow "parents who disagree… https://www.popsugar.com/family/schools-notify-parents-student-gender-identity-49328742?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Straw Bag - The Six Figure Challenge
Introduction:
Tumblr media
In recent years, the world of online shopping has revolutionized the way consumers browse and purchase products. The English language, being at the forefront of globalization and digitalization, has seen significant advancements in its vocabulary related to shopping experiences. This article aims to explore the demonstrable advances in English regarding where to buy straw basket bags, comparing the current options with those available in the past.
Body:
1. Traditional Brick-and-Mortar Stores:
In the past, English speakers looking for straw basket bags primarily relied on brick-and-mortar stores. These stores, usually situated in shopping malls, offered limited options and often required customers to physically visit the store to make a purchase. This traditional method is still prevalent, but today's English speakers have progressively transitioned to other shopping channels due to the emergence of online alternatives.
2. Online Marketplaces:
Tumblr media
The advent of online marketplaces, such as Amazon and eBay, has significantly transformed the way English speakers shop for straw basket bags. These platforms have expanded the range of options available, allowing customers to browse through numerous sellers and choose the product that best suits their preferences. Online marketplaces also provide the convenience of ordering from the comfort of one's home, complete with secure payment options and home delivery services. Moreover, straw bag and ratings enable potential buyers to make informed decisions.
3. E-commerce Websites:

REVIEW
The Dueling Duchess by Minerva Spencer
Wicked Women of White Chapel #2
This is the second book in the series, and I wonder if I might have enjoyed it a bit more if I had read the first book before this one. Why? Well, there were references to scenes that I am pretty sure happened in France in book one that would have been nice to have read that might have given more information about the relationship between Guy and Cecile. That said, I wasn’t really lost reading this but did wonder what I might have missed.
 What I liked:
* The idea of a female sharpshooter in Europe – the ones I had heard of were in the USA living on the Western frontier – did make me wonder what circus acts were truly in vogue at the time
* Cecile reminded me a bit of Annie Oakley
* The idea of a group of women working together as they did in Farnham’s Fantastical Female Fayre
* That Cecile had a rough time of it but was a survivor, stood up for herself, and was strong. She was rather volatile and could hold onto a grudge for quite a while, but when she loved completely
* The growth Guy showed in the story although I wondered at times why he would have been willing to do some of the things that he did.
* Cat the young homeless girl and her dog George
* The ballroom scene with Guy the instructor
* Helen – the governess and also more – wonder if she wills how up in a book later in the series
* Blade – good with knives, rather spy-like, has Angus a Raven…or perhaps he has her, and the book coming up with her and Elliott starring
 What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how difficult the French Revolution…and any war is
* What Cecile, Cat and others must have gone through
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? I think so
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
 3-4 Stars
     BLURB
“Another carefully calibrated mix of steamy passion, delectably dry humor, and daringly original characters.” — Booklist STARRED REVIEW In the newest of her witty, Regency-set, feminist romances exploring the roles of women in a rigidly patriarchal society, the acclaimed author of Notorious hits the mark with expert sharpshooter, London circus attraction, and French expat Cecile Tremblay. Bridgerton fans will delight in the rapier sharp wit, sexual fireworks, and thought-provoking entertainment of the Wicked Women of Whitechapel. When Cecile Tremblay lost everyone and everything in the French Revolution, she never imagined that she'd earn her living as a markswoman in a London circus. But Farnham's Fantastical Female Fayre has become her home, her family, and her future. Another thing Cecile never imagined was becoming entangled with the man gossip columns call The Darling of the Ton . But mere weeks after her rejection of his insulting carte blanche—and his infuriating engagement to an heiress—Darlington is back, this time to beg Cecile for help. And help him she will, by teaching him about honest work—and the right way to treat a woman. Gaius Darlington has always led a charmed life. Until now. Suddenly, a long-lost heir has appeared to claim his title, possessions, and property, Not only that, but Guy's fiancée has jilted him to marry the usurper! Yet there is a silver it's no longer Guy’s duty to marry an heiress to save the dukedom. He’s free to wed the woman he loves—if only he can earn her forgiveness. They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. But fury is just a step away from passion, and Guy knows just how to arouse Cecile’s. . . Praise for Minerva Spencer’s Rebels of the Ton series “Brilliantly crafted . . . an irresistible cocktail of smart characterization, sophisticated sensuality, and sharp wit.” —Booklist (STARRED REVIEW) “Sparkling . . . impossible not to love.” —Popsugar

what do you think of how the direction of hotd is going. Personally I think the whole trags prophecy of the enemy in the north was unneeded, they already know that they would fall if they stayed in their island during the doom of val. And that they love conquering and painting themselves as heros.aybe it would have made more sense once they were in the west and saw the vision rather then knowing from the start and still being awful leaders.
Aegon was born in Westeros, many years after the Targs came from Valyria, so he had his prophetic dream in Westeros a certain time before the Conquest.
Now, Aegon being a dreamer is just an idea that GRRM is developing. It’s in his head but we don’t know how he will write it in the last books.
While promoting Fire and Blood in 2018 GRRM called this idea of Aegon’s knowledge about the Long Night “speculation:”
Then Elio García gave this kind of clarification, saying George was talking about “speculation from fans:”
“He’s bringing it up just as a way to bridge the content of F&B to ASoIaF/GoT.”
Because this is exactly what Ryan Condal, HOT D Show runner, is saying:
Condal: This idea that Aegon, who believed in The Song of Ice and Fire and believed in this prophecy that would unite the realm against the cold and dark coming out of the North, and imbued his secret in the steel of the Valyrian dagger, we felt like that was a nice way to tie the two series together. —House of the Dragon | S1 EP1: Inside the Episode (HBO)
The key line here is:
This idea (Aegon's dream)... we felt like that was a nice way to tie the two series together.
So Aegon's dream is:
A way to bridge F&B to ASOIAF/GOT
A way to tie HOT D/GOT
While speaking with Insider, Popsugar, and Metacritic during a press junket, “House of the Dragon” cocreator Ryan Condal explained how this scene was based on new information Martin gave him during the early writing process. Martin said Aegon was a “dreamer” — a name for Targaryens who had prophetic dreams.
“That was the detail that George actually gave us early in the story break — the idea that Aegon the Conqueror was himself a dreamer and that’s what motivated the conquest,” Condal said. “Which he mentioned casually in conversation, as he often does with huge pieces of information like that.”
(…) “It really changed our thinking of the way we saw the Targaryen reign and what it was all about,” Condal said. “The fact that Aegon had this knowledge — or perceived that he had this knowledge, because it is just a dream, you don’t know whether it’s going to come true — but that he pursued the Conquest thinking that this was an imminent problem.”
(…) “We took George’s idea and spun it dramatically for ‘House of the Dragon,’” Condal said.
—'House of the Dragon’ cocreator explains the big Targaryen reveal at the end of the first episode
This means, that the only thing from George is the idea of Aegon’s dream about the Long Night. The part that since Aegon’s time every Targaryen King passed the prophecy to their heirs is all made up by the HOT D Showrunners.
(…) “And at some point, it will come out, as Martin told us,” Condal continued. ”
—There’s a Secret to House of the Dragon’s Big Game of Thrones Secret
Key lines:
[Aegon] never told anyone, or at least the people they told didn’t tell the history to the history writers. So it’s in George’s head.” (…) “And at some point, it will come out, as Martin told us.”
With his permission, of course, we infused that into the story because it was such a great way to create resonance with the original show.
So, Condal is basically repeating what Elio García said in 2018, the same time this new show was developing. They are using the idea of Aegon’s knowledge of the Long Night (that it’s still only in George’s head) as a link between GOT and HOT D.
So, again, the only thing from George is Aegon’s dream. The part that since Aegon’s time every Targaryen King passed the prophecy to their heirs is all made up by the HOT D Showrunners.
But even the idea of Aegon’s dream is only in George’s head, we don’t really know how he will write it in the last books.
And more recently GRRM said that there are TWO canons: 1) BOOK CANON that includes ASOIAF and the companion books like F&B; and, 2) SHOWS CANON that includes GOT, HOT D and all the others prequels. You can watch/read it here.
Thanks for your message :)

Rating: 4.5/5
Book Blurb: The final installment in the “hilarious and steamy” (PopSugar) Regency Vows series follows the heir to a dukedom and a young widow, once very much in love, as they reunite years later to fake an engagement for the benefit of her sister.
West, the Marquess of Weston, and Sophie, Lady Fitzwilliam Bridewell, have lately been spending a considerable amount of time together. But West and Sophie are not new acquaintances. In fact, years ago, they had once been nearly engaged until West’s almost fatal curricle accident and his meddling father threw them off course.
Now recently widowed, Sophie has put aside all thoughts of romance. But when her widowed sister, Alexandra, mentions a fondness for an earl, Sophie realizes that she may be holding her sister back. Alexandra won’t move forward with an engagement until Sophie, too, settles down again, and so Sophie approaches West with a plan. They will announce their engagement and break things off once Alexandra is happily married. It’ll be simple. After all, it’s not like she is going to fall for West a second time, not when Sophie has sworn not to risk her heart again.
Review:
A second chance romance commences between two ex lovers as they fake an engagement... but the feelings from the past are all coming back, can they work out why they didn't work in the past and make a future with each other? West, the Marquess of Weston and Sophie, Lady Fitzwilliam Bridewell were lovers about to get married... until a fatal accident that left West injured... only to recover a few weeks later to discover that the woman he loved had married one of his friends... yet she never told him why and they've been estranged until now... years later when Sophie is widowed but in order to convince her younger sister that it is okay to get remarried, Sophie must fake an engagement and who better to do it with than the one man who was going to be her fiancee right? Before Sophie and West were about to get married, West's grandfather had threatened Sophie and her family and after his accident she had married someone else to secure the happiness of her other sisters and enable them to get married... but now she is a widow. Sophie is content being a widow... but she still misses West. West is grieving not only the death of his friend who was with him during the accident but the lost of the one woman he loved and he never even knew why she broke it off. West and Sophie have a complicated history, they can barely even be in the same room as one another, yet when West's grandfather threatens him and demands he get married and Sophie, the woman who still holds his heart, proposes a fake engagement, he thinks it's the perfect opportunity to try and win her back and also figure out why she broke up their relationship in the first place. This was a really cute second chance historical romance, Sophie and West both love each other, and continued to love each other despite everything. They really kept coming back to each other and no matter what happened, they only wanted to do what was best for the other. I loved how sweet West was, he really was such a great love interest. I think this one was definitely my favorite out of all the books! If you enjoy second chance romances with lots of yearning then give this one a go!!
*Thanks Netgalley and Atria Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Adriana Lima's Must Haves: From a $60 Perfume to Air Jordans
When you think of Victoria's Secret, the first image that probably pops into your head is Adriana Lima. She made her Victoria's Secret debut in 1999, becoming one of the longest-reigning Angels with 18 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show catwalks under her belt, before subsequently retiring in 2018. As the lingerie brand goes through a rebrand focusing on body positivity, it's also leaning into the 2000s nostalgia.
Victoria's Secret brought back its bestselling scent, Heavenly, along with one of its most iconic Angels to spearhead the campaign — Lima included. "I'm back home. I am thrilled. I'm super excited. I love the brand. The brand helped me in every aspect of my life to make me feel empowered, feminine, and sexy," she tells POPSUGAR, adding that she has special connection to this particular scent. "I shot the first Heavenly campaign, I believe it was 1999, it was my first fragrance campaign ever." Now, she's the face of its revival.
In honour of its comeback, we decided to go down memory lane and reminisce about some of her iconic looks from past Victoria's Secret fashion shows. One of Lima's favourites is the monochromatic red ensemble during the Paris segment of the 2013 show, noting that red is her favourite colour. Donning the Fantasy Bra three times in her initial VS run, she couldn't pick just one. "They're so unique; there's so much design and time involved to make them. They work manually, placing stone by stone, and to watch that being built is truly a beautiful, incredible artistic process," she says.
Taking us back to today, Lima also gave us the rundown on current her must-have products, including a golden water bottle, Nike Air Jordans, and a silk sleep mask. Keep reading for the go-to items she can't live without.
Adriana Lima's Affordable Must Have
Lima can't go a day without perfume. "You can have the most glamorous look, but if you don't have your fragrance, something's missing," she says. The Victoria's Secret Heavenly Eau de Parfum ($60) is her current go-to. "This is the most iconic and timeless fragrance; it represents femininity, empowerment, and sensuality," Lima says.
The Heavenly Eu de Parfum is a warm scent with notes of gold musk, bourbon vanilla, creamy sandalwood, and romantic florals, including freesia, lotus, and white jasmine. "You feel feminine, you feel iconic, ethereal, empowered, sensual," she says on wearing Heavenly, adding that you can wear it during the daytime or at night. "No matter what, you will be remembered."
Pro Tip: To make your scent last longer throughout the day, Lima advises prepping your skin with moisturiser before applying your perfume. She applies an unscented oil right out of the shower, then fragrance on top. Lima also recommends spraying the scent on your hair and clothes as well for a long-lasting linger.
Adriana Lima's Investment Must Have
To stay hydrated, Lima loves her Waterdrop Oro Steel Water Bottle ($46-$52). "I've always wanted a gold water bottle," she says. "If you carry a water bottle that's actually stylish, you remind yourself to drink water every day." Not only is using a reusable water bottle like the ones from Waterdrop an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bottles, but it also helps you stay hydrated throughout the day. This one is made from double-walled stainless steel and is vacuum insulated to keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. Although her water bottle of choice is a blingy option, Lima keeps it simple with room-temperature water.
Pro Tip: Lima likes to create her own electrolyte water with some lemon, a dash of salt, and a teaspoon of maple syrup for an extra dose of hydration.
Adriana Lima's Morning Routine Must Have
The Vana Health System ($669) is a crucial part of Lima's daily wellness routine. The vials are meant to be taken as a wellness shot, and each set contains a morning formula and a nighttime formula. It uses naturally derived ingredients like vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients, as well as fruits and vegetables that help keep your cells healthy and provide around-the-clock support for your body. Lima says that "it detoxifies your gut. It gives you more energy. It helps you sleep better at night, too. You see the difference in your skin." It's packed with antioxidants, and according to Lima, it tastes like tart cherry.
Pro Tip: Lima likes to take the a.m. shot right after breakfast and the p.m. shot after dinner and right before bed.
Adriana Lima's Sleep Must Have
Lima takes her sleep seriously. "I understand there are incredible lotions and products out there for your skin, but if you don't have a great night's sleep, there are no products in this world that will help your skin," Lima says. She told us that she is sensitive to light — even notifications from her phone — so she likes to wear her grey Blissy Silk Sleep Mask ($40) to ensure a good night's rest. Made from 100 percent mulberry silk, Lima especially loves how it feels cooling on her skin and helps prevent under-eye puffiness.
Pro Tip: This sleep mask comes with its own travel pouch, so you can take it on trips and use it on flights for a peaceful slumber anywhere, anytime.
Adriana Lima's Must Have Pair of Sneakers
Lima's go-to pair of sneakers is the Nike Air Jordan 1 Mid Sneakers ($125) in white, black, and red, calling them "the most iconic sneakers. The style is incredible. I'm obsessed." Lima wears them with everything from jeans to sweatpants and even skirts. These sneakers have a mid-top design made with leather, synthetic leather, and textile. The Nike Air Jordan 1 has a foam midsole and cushioning for lightweight comfort. "I have to say I have more respect for the shoe after I saw the movie, 'Air.' The story behind how they created it, like much respect for that shoe right now," Lima says.
Pro Tip: These sneakers fit true to size and are available in both men's and women's sizing.
