My failed Ruvik cosplay. I was trying to finish this before Halloween. I have plans for a 1:6 custom doll based on Ruvik, but I keep pushing that back (due to me being a lazy bum, who procrastinates too much!). So I decided, I wanted my tiny, baby-faced Bettina male to cosplay as him for now. I thought what could possibly go wrong? Lol! I am still happy I made the hooded robe and the pants. I am now certain I can make better fitted pants for this tiny guy. And I don’t mind the look of the robe, although I could have done a million times a better job, if I knew what I was doing (pattern making and sewing are things I am not slightly good at!). However, at the very least, they fit well, and I am into the worn and bloody look, these pieces have. Kaneki is a ghoul, after all, so what better than these type/style of clothes for him to wear. I am definitely going to give these some use after this.
I made many mistakes with the full body suit, to mimic the burn scars that Ruvik has, and I did make a mask for him to wear. That unfortunately, turned out insanely absurd -- because I am dumb as heck and didn’t take many issues into consideration, until it was already too late. I was thinking about not sharing these anywhere, but I did take a freaking long-time painting everything, not to spam these anywhere! Lol! DX I Photoshoped the 1st image, but I forgot to remove his eyebrow out, so I just left it there.
Not my best work by any means, but I am hoping that when I do get to making my custom 1:6 Ruvik doll, he will turnout at least half accurate, or at the very least not as half-6ssed as this. (:

Back in 2004, I was just a girl collecting bjd that was ranting with her friends collector in chat, sad and angry, after learing that Lilicat discover her first doll recasted. What we can actually do, to contrast this unbearable phenomenon? With that in mind, the “Pro bjd artists” movements was born. At first just the “pro bjd artists day”, then the firsts tag, the phamplet for your local conventions, the slogan for the community. But the recaster have more and more power, the phenomenon is far from fading and we are still here, asking each other: what we can do? So, with this in mind, that same group of friend decided to try something more tangible and the first no-profit Italian cultural association is born: Jointed souls. Here we are. A baby that has a long way to go, but is legal, is real, and we will use it as a springboard for your dream: inform and help your community to grow, to eradicate the recast habit (because for the neebies is often the first choice), to partecipate at all the European convention we can, with info, tutorial, enthusiasm. We have so much ideas and we soon put all on the socials, in italian and in English. For now I put here all the links, we hope to become soon bigger and useful for this beautiful community

Did you get my ask about looking for legit purple dolls? I'm sorry to bother you here but I'm honestly scared of the hate I'll get anywhere else. I know it's not recast related sorry but I thought you were OK with answering legit questions as well?
Yes, and I’m working on it, so far “purple skin dolls” are rare anon, especiallyif you want them to be legit. Leaving aside any Limited Edition or SpecialEdition dolls (that it’s not only near impossible to get, particularly ifthey’re sold out, but might also cost you an arm and a leg), the onlylegit company that might (if you request) do something on purple resin as“a regular doll” might be either Resinsoul(not Bobobie”, not “The Junky Spot”, just go talk to the source, sent an email to them),or maybe Mirodoll (horrible quality andpoor service until this day, regardless of some antis thinking it’s better than recast so “they’re awesome”, but they might have something made in purple resin by request), maybe even Impledoll might make some custom colors (they’re pretty accessible if you want to ask them and their service it’s good, they will charge you a lot more for just the color, but hey, if you’re an anti you must be loaded with cash to spare). More expensive companies are usually saving the purple color (as other morerare ones) for their Limited Editions, so if they can sell you twice theprice the doll just because it’s from a color they don’t usually offer, theytend not to offer the color (even if you ask) on their dolls as a regularthing. Some other friendly not judging pro recast anon community membersmight have some extra replies that might leave here for you to see.
The other options are, either you dye a (snow) white skin doll (or as light skin color as you can, like normal pink or so, tan or darker resins are less recommended for this already messy process) at home (byyourself), but this often don’t work because they end up looking “bad”, unevenin coloration and have a tendency to stain whatever comes in contact with. Andin essence you might be ruining a perfectly good expensive legit doll (so useaniline under your own risk). Or, the other option it’s making a hybrid,if your faceup skills allow you to, you can get a body from Resinsoul orMirodoll (if you convince them to do the doll in that color), and get only thebody, and the head (that’s often the most important part of the doll) you canget it legit from any company you like and match the color purple (to the colorof the resin body, and I suggest this because I know Resinsoul esthetics arenot everyone’s cup of tea). You can achieve this by sealing twice the head withMSC and then using watercolor based acrylic paint and a magic sponge. Then seal again when the paint it’s dry with another couple layers of MSC andstart the faceup regularly (might have to take care of the faceup a bit morefrom “nose dives” or “general scratching”, but most faceups require care sothey don’t get ruined). Why don’t do this to the entire body?, simply put, scratching on joints and articulations, paint chipping all over and giving awaythe real color underneath. The visible part of the head it’s easy to manage.Leave the headcap from its original color (you won’t see it when the wig it’son), and just paint purple the face or base of the head.
Having said this, it’s sad not only that “your side of the hobby” it’sunwilling to answer and you have to use prorecast places to find answers since“pro artists” (or antirecasters) talk about their “high morals” and “how theyare super nice persons” and that they are “the heart of the hobby” but makesyou feel uncomfortable enough that you ended up asking the side of the hobbyyou disagree and possibly hate because they might hate you for a simplequestion. It’s also sad that you hurry us up like if we get paid for doingthis blog or anything (your first confession was less than 12hs ago), sinceyou decided to be against all we represent, even if we clearly don’t mind toanswer “legit questions”, will be a little more polite not to hush uswith the questions your anti recast friends might hate you if you ask… justan observation for the next time.
And hope you find what you’re looking for.

Surely this has been discussed before, but I follow a very nice someone on IG who own legit resin bjds and also vinyl bjd. It's Night Lolita and Yeluoli. They have a clear prolegit stance on resin (I found receipts while browsing their stories), but I thought those vinyl dolls were considered recast from a resin company ? Those dolls could be amazing cheap doll but still, can you enlighten me ? (whatever the answer is, I won't unfollow them because they're very nice and gentle person)

Mod: Some previous posts on this topic here, here, and here. It appears Night Lolita and Yeluoli are both legit according to the comments.

"i think the best way to beat the recast epidemic is befriending them and showing them the wrong of their ways on a personal level", yeah, because that doesn't sound like a crazy religious cult or a bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses knocking at your door 7AM at ALL. besides, do you actually know the meaning of the word "epidemic"?, because I have the felling you don't.

when you start your confession remembering a "nobody with a recast" at "your" doll con, and tell us all about how you insisted in taking apart the doll to "change the eye putty" and you actually wanted to see if it was a recast or not, and then how you told the person the doll was a recast and the person politely said to you she or he "didn't care", and how you regret and wish you had gave this person a "bigger ear full about it", the only thing I can think of is how shitty human being you are.
No excuses, you are a piece of shit. Trying to make others feel bad, taking their dolls and not telling them the real reason you’re opening the head, like… I don’t even have to think that hard. How come this is the people who hold themselves into the highest moral ground when they recur to this stuff to make their point?! I don’t go to meets making others feel miserable about their dolls not to mention lying and telling them I want to change the putty or the clothes to see their doll and then
go shit-chat about it. It’s not your fucking business, and if you don’t want to be friends with this person because he has a recast, cool, don’t be friends, and if the meeting it’s “legit only” then POLITELY tell them to leave and explain the reasons. But why everything you anti-recasters make to “prove your point” it’s so fucking shady all the time? And btw, recasts are “generally not approved” by people like you, and this tells me a lot about how much the pro recast community has grown. 👍

I understand WHY people are prorecast. They want sold out limited sets or cheaper options to the extent that they don’t have many options left. BUT the antirecast have same mindset of the shoplifting community, those who repost uncredited art or get pissy when artists decides to rerelease old limited stuff (god forgives that to ever happen!). What I will NEVER understand though is the extent to which the antirecast are so obsessed with prorecast to the point of persecution and abuse.

I really feel like a lot of anti-recast people don't make a strong enough argument. I read somewhere someone saying "these dolls are a luxury not a necessity, if you can't afford one, that's basically too bad" It kind of set the entire tone in my head for the types of people who are so anti-recast. To them, being poor isn't a valid excuse to go out of your way to find a cheaply done version of the doll you want so bad. People can be so unforgiving to those who can't afford what they can.

When a sculpt you really like is discontinued and a ton of people who sell the secondhand sculpt immediately push the prices up into the sky. There is where you start thinking about recasts. And it's prolegits who push you to it.
Certainly they do...

I'm fairly new to the BJD hobby. The first doll I bought is an original, but there are some dolls I like, that were limited a long time ago and the only way for me to get them is recast. There are some beautiful recasts out there, but I feel conflicted. I run an artistic page about dolls. How do I post a picture of a recast without feeling like a bad person?
Anon, you are not a bad person for owning a recast. You should fell like a bad person if you refuse to help someone in need of food or shelter and dolls are not that important for deciding who is bad or good in this life. Artists get paid for the sculpt only once and not every time the company sells one as antis let you to believe. So artist working for companies are in no way affected by recast, and if we’re talking about limited dolls, then not even the company it’s getting any less money because they no longer produce it. The only ones angry about it can be the antis because they sell on the 2nd hand MP.
You can share and post pictures of your recast and still have legit dolls if you like. Is your money and you are not hurting anyone so no, again, you are not a bad person for it and you shouldn’t fell ashamed of your dolls. Just find a recast friendly space to share your dolls like some FB groups, open a different blog for them, or use forums like castawaydolls and recastbjdhaven. And you can still run your artistic page about dollsat the same time. You can even use a different profile and username, if you think you will be judged for it by anti recast community members, until you fell more confident about it.
Hugs from this team and don’t forget Anon, we’re here for you. <3

Are antis unaware of how being an artist works? The artists are constipated once for their sculpting. After that, every doll sold is profit for the company... they aren't paid on commission. They don't make extra for every doll sold. So buying a recast isn't 'taking money from them'.

1 I never open comments on recasts made at bjdconfessions cos' the admin is anti then allows everyone to shit on recast owners, but one got my eye and read a few comments, this is literal: "junkseries said: Congrats, go fuck over the artists some more, because that’s reasonable and logical, sure.", "crazydolllady said: Sounds like you kinda wanted an excuse to buy recasts right from the start, bitch", "chriscappuccino said (mocking the confession above) “I’m mad at the people in the bjd hobby so
“2 so I’m gonna punish the artists by stealing their work". This ppl are not trolls. This is supposed to be the respectable part of the legit community. just 3 examples. I avoided the ones about “go kill yourself”. Do you really want to be part of this? or you rather to have the doll you like paid with your own hard earned money buying from a store or any other completely legal and normal site such as eBay? When I became pro recast I did it because of this. I don’t want to be part of a community“
“3 community who can so easily trow a ton of shit to anyone and everyone because they decided they’re better human beings. Buy legit if you want, fine by me, I even own a couple legit, but please, if someone it’s being an ass it means we already know who’s the better person here, regardless of the doll they own.”

As nice as it is to be part of a hobby community, I have plenty of other social hobbies. Ballroom dancing and D&D get me out of the house and interacting with other people. Unfortunately for the antis, their one weapon seems to be social exclusion. All that really does is make people who would otherwise be contributing to the online community decide to enjoy their dolls in peace and privacy. Unless bjd's are your only hobby, and only community, they really have 0 power. So I remain a lurker :)
