Honestly I recommend everyone learn just a littttle bit of CSS because it really is powerful and just makes bits and pieces of your internet experience more convenient.

Right now I'm cataloguing recipes I've really enjoyed, just trying to get them all in one place. Many of these are instagram recipes and, because I don't trust link rot (aka the possibility that the instagram link goes dead one day), I'm including a screenshot of the recipe along with the link.

But instagram on desktop... looks like this

I obviously could just copy-paste the recipe out of there. But a screenshot would be cleaner for how I'm cataloguing these.

And as-is, I'd have to scroll the whole height of that small right-side window about 4 times to fit it all.

But actually... I can just resize that div holding that whole right-side content

Basically I

hit f12 to open the dev tools

clicked the element finder

clicked on an element inside the recipe side

followed it up the tree until I found the element holding the whole recipe side (do this by hovering the div in the dev tools panel way on the right, then hovering upward and up until I find the element which is the highest up that still only contains the recipe-side content)

in the element.style part, set "width: 1000px" and "height: 1500px"

(I notice the width seems to still be less than 1000px, even though it got bigger)

likely suggests there's an element above it with a max-width set

go up the tree higher until I find the element with the max-width and uncheck that style

screenshot ready

Maybe that sounded complicated but it took me probably 20-30 seconds

And this isn't just about screenshotting recipes like.

website with an annoying gif? select gif, delete gif

do you want a clean screenshot of a digital receipt for record-keeping without a large company banner or irrelevant information? delete unnecessary elements, adjust widths, screenshot

SOMETIMES, you can bypass paywalls if they're relying on something like overflow: hidden, or an overlay in the way, or some JS that runs (you can disable JS in the dev tools)

lost the jpg/png file you used for your profile picture and size doesn't totally matter? grab it from the img src while logged in. (you might even be able to find it in a bigger size by changing the url query parameters)

color contrast on an article really bad? find and change background color. find and change font color

want to make a funny fake screenshot without learning photoshop? just edit the page content in the dev tools

This isn't about like being good enough to write scripts or browser extensions. Really if you just have some basic HTML/CSS understanding a hat worth of tricks, you can make so many little adjustments in your favor.

I wanted to find two fics if that is okay.

A) The plot of the first fic: LWJ is a controversial singer. He’s known for his explicit music videos, and is openly gay. I think the fic author was representing the mindset of early 2000’s. His manager is Jiāng Yanli, they both bonded over WWX, who’s presumed dead but is missing. It’s also LWJ fucks. He has sex with various people, one of them being his background dancer but he doesn’t date anyone because he’s in love with WWX. WWX is actually living in hiding, (from Meng Yao). He returns and LWJ and him get together. There’s a whole car chase scene as well when he goes back to get Yuan and the rest of the Wens with Jiang Cheng.

B) The second fic, I don’t remember much from it except a scene that’s been nagging me. It’s a WangXian getting back together fic. Basically WWX returns and while LWJ doesn’t give into him right away, they still end up getting back together. LWJ had a hard time with WWX leaving. The scene that I’m referring to is in which Lwj comes home, and wwx mentions to him he and LXC spoke. LWJ panics because he’s afraid wwx will leave him again and I recall the dialogue being something along the lines of

“No, he had no right” or “he doesn’t get to take you away from me again” he starts crying I think.

WWX calms him down by saying he’s never leaving him again no matter what, even if LXC wouldn’t approve he doesn’t care for others and the only one who matters is LWJ.

Hiiii! I am the person who asked for 2a and 2b in your May 2nd post. The first one is the one I was desperately looking for! Thank you so much for your hard work. 2b isn’t either of those, but much similar. I wish I could provide more context, but I don’t remember much. I believe the scene was Lan Zhan coming home and Wei Ying coming to the doorway mentioning how Xichen called and they spoke, Lan Zhan could’ve been hiding about wei ying coming back I think. Lan Zhan panics thinking wwx will leave him because he assumes xichen was mean to wwx over the phone and he’s scared he’ll leave as a result but wwx calms him saying no matter what he’ll never leave him again. 3. I read this ff one time from sizhui pov. it’s essentially about lwj in mourning clothes during wwx death . he’s commenting on the color of the robes being white and how there’s no blue. I have never been able to find it again. it;s short, maybe one or two chapters.

7. Fic Finder ask here, I’m looking for a fic set in the cloud recesses study arc era, it’s cannon divergent and WWX & LWJ get together during cloud recesses, I think they’re engaged as well. This fic is also a long fic. The only concrete scene I can place to this fic was WWX & LWJ having horny teen semi clothed sex in the woods where WWX is on LWJ’s lap and they’re found by NHS who clearly thinks he just walked in on them kissing and thought it was fine for them to be doing that, he just felt awkward walking in on them doing it. For Fic Finder: I am looking for a canon-era fic where Wei Wuxian was some kind of god or divine being and the thing I remember is that he had to bond with a demon/beast-man to balance his divinity(?). Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan came to him as an example of one such duo: Song Lan was the demon half and he explained that the demons make a contract with the god to protect the god in life and then the demon gets to eat the god’s body after death. The thought of getting eaten scared WWX. I am pretty sure this fic took place during the Sunshot Campaign because WWX was fighting through some war and he was unbalanced because he hadn’t found his other half. It turns out, Wei Ying fell off the cliff at Nightless City but instead of dying, he somehow ended up 600 years into the present. I remember that the Lan brothers immediately help him - he's fascinated & freaked out by modern life at first (both the hotel elevator & modern plumbing in particular). Um, a lot of cultivation history has been lost over time & i think WY helps with that. I also remember it turns out that Lan Zhan is the reincarnation of original LZ. I think that several other characters were reincarnated also & Mo Xuanyu is another person who somehow time-traveled to the present. I know it ended up Wangxian. I think there's a sequel where they eventually adopt A-Yuan & a little girl who is Yanli reincarnated. Please help! I can't remember the fic name & all my keyword searching hasn't worked out.

19. Okay so there's a fic I read when I first got into MDZS about two years ago and the memory of it suddenly hit me like a truck and I /need/ to reread but I cannot, for the life of me, find it. I've gone through what feels like 100 pages of my history on a03 without luck so here I am. Okay, as far I can remember, It was still a WIP when I read it roughly two years ago, but that was two years ago so I could be wrong. Anyway, it was a time travel fic but /not/ because of canon events.

However, it was canon complacent. Basically, sometime after the end of the series, there was some really bad demonic (?) event that killed most of the world, including LWJ. WWX hadn't reached immortality but he had reached the next level of cultivation, and therefore now had a perfect memory. I know there was one scene where he realized he'd hit that breakthrough (and I think broke down?) because he was recreating the ancestral plates of the Lan and realized he knows every name even if he shouldn't.

Anyway, in this future, the remaining cultivators are able to link together to sort of super boost their cultivation? (Idk if that's the best description) and tie it to both Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning, who send their consciousnesses back in time to... I think it's when they were at the Gusu lectures. (I do not remember if this was novel or cql verse).

They gather the world (Minus Wen Ruohan and his people) to tell the story of the future but using titles people wouldn't yet have (like Yiling Patriarch. Ghost General. Headshaker. Lianfang-zun as examples) to tell the story without giving away identities (Though Wen Ning does introduce himself as the Ghost General at some point during that, giving away that identity). There's also truth talisman they wear while telling the story to prove its all true. Anyway I know this is long but I figured the more details I remembered, the better. Even if it is still WIP I just wanna reread what's there so badly.

like all of both openutau and voicevox its got its FOSS type funkiness here and there, but i think it's a fun thing to play around with for those who are more comfortable with OU's interface, or those who want a pitch-snappy flat base to tune in while still having the fun tone of speaking synths being made to sing, or even those who don't know japanese and are not quite ready to fully dive into an untranslated software BUT are at least ready to dip their toes in. also like i mentioned up there its free and opensource so u got nothing to lose LOL

I don't think I can explain setting up Voicevox 'cause I don't remember so you're on your own with that BUT check out this post with some troubleshooting advice AND i CAN explain (maybe kind of poorly) how to set up voicevox for openutau:

FIRST OF ALL. have voicevox installed and open it, keep it open in the background for the entire time you want to use it in openutau.

SECONDLY you should download "Voicevox_Singer.zip" from here, then open up OpenUtau, and drag and drop the zip file into OU and let it install. Then you should close and reopen OU and now in the singer select menu, you should have a voicevox submenu in the singer selection!

and that's about it for installation LOL All the names will be in Japanese, unfortunately you can't change them in their yaml files or anything without them breaking (at least in my test it didn't work) so if you're not familiar with some Japanese writing you'll have to cross reference it with translations from a vsynth wiki or something. Or you could just click them until you see the portrait of the character you want and favourite it for later. I'm only a beginner but katakana and hiragana gets you pretty far with vocal synth names, plus a group of these guys are colour names and those are some of the mere 20 kanji i know <3

Voicevox also only supports hiragana, including the small tsu っ as a glottal stop type situation, so keep that in mind. Luckily, OpenUtau makes it easy to write lyrics even if you don't have Japanese input on because of romaji to hiragana functions and the lyric finder in the input box.

Another important thing about Voicevox Humming, in the "song" section of Voicevox there's three "parameters" you can set to change how the voice sings your song: the emotion style, the range, and the volume.

On the left is showing that this is set to Zundamon's crying talk bank (namidame), her range is set to 6, and her volume is set to 4. The emotion modes depend on the character, some characters only have a default style, while some have many, and in the case of Ritsu (and I believe another upcoming voice, that utau Lit?) one style is actually made specifically for singing rather than just being talk bank data.

In OpenUtau, emotion styles are mapped to the voice colour function which isn't too difficult to grasp. Again the names are all in Japanese (and honestly they're very stylized and colloquial so most of them are beyond my abilities LOL) so listen to them on the website and look at the character portraits, maybe look at translations too to get a grasp on what they all are. I don't know what Kotarou's bieeeeeeen means but he looks and sounds scared as fuck so that's probably his scared emotion mode LOL

Here's a screenshot of Ryuusei's in the voice colour section in OU, from top to bottom is like, hotblooded, happy, kinda pissed off, normal, seductive?, and sad little man:

The other two parameters that matter for VV in OU are Volume and Tone Shift, which i've put above the voice color panel in the above screenshot. THESE... are tricky. I THINK. I think, that maybe MAYBE tone shift might be mapped to range? but I'm not sure the scaling or direction, it's default is -36 to 36 in OU though. Volume LIKELY maps to volume, again at a different scaling though, from 0-200 with 100 as default (compared to VV's default 0 that can go positive or negative, and I don't. think it has a cap? I love you FOSS)

In Voicevox Humming proper, it's pretty easy to figure out range - you just move it up and down until the autopitch fits the notes, maybe shift it gently to get a closer match, if you're insane like me and doing a song with a large range you can always do my method of rendering like 5-10 different versions of the same song in different ranges and then splicing the best takes in mother fuckinggg fruity loops babyyyyy

In OU it's a lot less predictable. Normally you'd have the deeper voices in the negative ranges and the higher voices in the positive, but in OU my best results have all been setting "tone shift" to positive values, often above 15. If I knew more Japanese and more about coding maybe I'd be able to figure some more things out, but for now my only advice is just press W and keep the waveform view on in OU and mess around until you find something you like!

Volume is easier at least, if it's closer to 0 it's quieter and whispery all the way to just like raw VV engine noise, and if it's above 100 to 200 it's a little more projected! Often I like to find a spot in "tone shift" where things are relatively volume steady, and then use the "volume" parameter to make it properly powerful or gentle depending on what I'm going for.

Here's some tests I did, I'll explain what settings below:

Zundamon test, three versions of the same small bit of singing:

actual Voicevox engine render for reference. She's on her normal talk emotion, her range is 6, and her volume is 7.

Voicevox for OU render, normal talk emotion, 0 tone shift, 100 volume. More metallic UTAU sound while still having the pronunciation charms of an AI based talk voicebank.

Voicevox for OU render, namidame (teary eye) talk emotion, 0 tone shift, 100 volume. Totally different mouth openness and lots of lisp, very expressive while still being a flat base!

Kotarou normal talk emotion test, three versions:

main voicevox engine render for reference, -10 range, 7 volume.

Voicevox for OU render, 0 tone shift, 100 volume. He's very quiet and a little shaky.

Voicevox for OU render, 20 tone shift, 100 volume. He's a little more stable.

Kotarou bieen (scared?) talk emotion test, two versions:

Voicevox for OU render, 16 tone shift, 160 volume. what was that breathy gasp sound at the end. it only happened in OU not the VV version. is finfin holding him at gunpoint.

Kotarou's singing an octave down from Zundamon, but they're both good examples of very goofy very mascot-y vocals LOL

Now have a Voicevox for OU render of Ryuusei as an example of a much deeper voice since he's the resident big blue baritone. Happy talk emotion, 22 tone shift, 130 volume. He's the trickiest to work with via OU that I've tested, it's hard to find his tone shift sweet spot. At least he's having a good time.

and here's a test of that big titty woman who can turn into a plush toy. or a plush toy that can turn into a big titty woman? human then plush then human then plushie talk emotions, 13 tone shift, 170 volume.

this is showing a fun little thing you can do, you can (kinda) mix emotion styles within the same track! only kind of though, there needs to be a space with no notes between the switch, otherwise it'll keep with the same emotion from the first note of a string of notes. If you want to shift in the middle of a sentence you'll have to do my splicing multiple renders in a DAW method as seen before LOL

all these tests of course are flat, no pitch drawings in the VV renders and no pitch or vibratos in the OU renders. for fun heres a very fast very lazy tune + mix with Tsumugi, since her V6 is coming out sometime soon

theres a lot of toys to play with! i personally prefer using the renders from the main software, but the sound of the OU support is pretty fun and I think it could be used in cool ways!

Thinking more about “death first to vultures and scavengers” in Gtn bc like, Harrow says this line after literally calling “finders rights” on Prot’s head. Corona mentions something called “carrion rights” and I think this is such an interesting little culture tidbit. Especially when coupled with Harrow explaining death rituals and how she would necromance dead ninthers after their death. And I just….I love this detail because it means that there are rules about which bones necromancers do get to use and which they can’t. A House can use the bones of their people, but a murder victim in an open case can’t be. I’m just imagining two necros going to necrocourt about them both finding a dead body and wanting to claim it. The necrosuprrme court had to decide on the parameters of body usage. It’s details like these that make me love the world building so much. It makes it so whole, and, forgive the pun, fleshed out.

I use this a lot, lol. Fantastic for finding perfumes based on characters, if you’re able to imagine notes they might wear.

❦. Perfume finder is one I don’t use very often, but it’s an honorable mention. By inputting a perfume you know you like, the algorithm will give you unbiased perfume suggestions of similar fragrances based on note makeup.

Not quite a full list of deities but one of my favorite recent reads is about how deities/spirits in Chinese folk religion stay relevant for their worshipers. It's a fantastic look into the practice. This video from ReligionForBreakfast also goes into detail about the topic, specifically Mazu's worship.

Not quite gods or spirits (yeah I know I'm not staying strictly in the parameters but this is interesting) but Mexico has a lot of folk saints. It's a little hard to find sources in English, but this list and this list (which also includes actual saints) are good to start with. Drawing Class - Composition Analysis using a viewfinder

Monday we worked with the viewfinder and did the assignments below.

A view finder is a tool used by artist to measure scale and proportion of objects in a still life. It has been used since the Rennaissance and probably even before that.

Using the view finder allows the artist to analyse and balance the space in the still life to create an interesting composition.

You will draw the still life carefully depicting the accurate contours of your objects. Make sure that you do not generalize any shape or object.

Be as accurate as possible.

Look at my still life below:

Notice that I have set up some items (brushes and scissors)  that break up space above the horizon line. In class I created a similar set up above the horizon line.

Remember that the Horizon Line is where the table and the wall meet.

Those objects like the mug , brushes scissors are propped up higher than other objects.

I have spaced out objects to create interesting negative spaces.

The objects in a still life hold positive space and the space around the objects is called negative space.

An artist’s job is to find the balance between these two worlds.

We call that negative to positive space relations.

As you look at the example in class and in this post, you can get a idea as to how you should create a still life at home for the midterm. Below is breakdown of what we did in class on Monday.

Change the paper to begin the next exercise .

Gesture - Non Dominant hand - using your non dominant hand, work for several minutes doing non stop gesture.

Get a new sheet of paper

Contour Drawing

Draw the still life carefully depicting the accurate contours of your objects. Make sure that you do not generalize any shape or object.

Be as accurate as possible.

For the last part of the class, students will be working with the viewfinder.

Monday and Wednesday in class:

Working in your Newsprint pad, divide the paper in 10 spaces as follows:

1) Vertical rectangle 2) Horizontal rectangle 3 +4) Large Square and a Small Square 5 + 6) Vertical Panoramic and horizontal Panoramic 7) Right Angle Triangle 8) Triangle 9) Circle 10) Irregular shape

Now using the view finder, look through it to create interesting compositions.

To use the viewfinder , extend your arm with the viewfinder, look through it to find the best compositions.

In the window you can see how I have cropped the still life to show only a few objects balance by space. That is what I will draw.

Here is another example. Notice I have captured the top of the bottle in contrast to the other objects.

The best composition is one that can balance the space and the line of the object. Try to have different set of objects in the various windows.

Once you find an interesting grouping you will do contour drawings of what you see through your viewfinder.

Each shape will have a different variation of the still life.

 That means if you want the parameter to be square vs, circular, rectangular etc.

After students complete studies in class, they will complete the following assignment for homework using their at home still life.

HOMEWORK :

Students will create their home still life following the instructions above.

They will then choose three favorite compositions to draw in large format on the newsprint paper.

You will use the same margin but draw something different inside large format in the newsprint pad.

That means , you will do three large format contour drawings using the cropped form or shape of your choosing.
