I can’t think about my community-college days without how much of it I spent listening to Front 242 and what else came with it: summer family feuds, cutting off my circle of “friends”, and the endless quiet Saturday / Sunday afternoons spent at the campus computer lab listening to their Epic-label re-issues. I spun Re-Boot as much as their earlier works and it’s one of many documents proving 242′s exceptional live performances. Ministry’s Paul Barker and Chris Connelly were the main reason why I grabbed Cold Waves tickets with Front 242 being a huge added bonus that easily came with it. It was their final last North American tour, so they gave all the energy they had and everyone attending were amazed. So amazing that when their set was over and Warsaw’s overheads switched on, I turn around to see one of their fans behind me in tears. Dream come true.

Front 242 Remixed: June's Featured Release

<<Rewind<< - Front 242 (2022, Alpha Matrix) for those who are unaware, are the forerunners of what we know today as electronic body music, and who've inspired what came later, Belgian new beat and industrialized techno. From their recording home in Aarschot, Belgium, from release after release, and a line-up that hardly rarely ever changed, they remain under this title, influencing the many acts who came onto the scene afterwards. <<Rewind<< is an EP which demonstrates that influence, a collective remix effort by key producers in the industrial-techno movement happening right now before our eyes, and ears.

Even though the term "industrial" as a music genre, was technically coined by the Brits, the movement in Belgium and that part of Europe at the beginning of the 1980s, was more like an off-shoot of New Wave and New Romanticism flair. Adrenalin replaces chance with the inclusion of synths and an emphasis on rhythm, hence the word "body" used within the term electronic body music. It was dance music finally, while there was also a more emotionally triggered, theatrically dramatic approach to sampling in production.

This EP revisits and modernizes 242's catalogue with the support of Terence Fixmer, The Hacker and a few others. Classic 242 synced to industrialized techno, out now on Alpha Matrix!

“Please The Press In Belgium”

Coup de projecteur sur la contribution de la Belgique au patrimoine musical depuis la fin des années 70. On s'attarde en particulier sur le premier album de Front 242, "Geography", paru en 1982. Jean-Luc De Meyer et Patrick Codenys nous en narrent la genèse.

La pièce de résistance de cet épisode de #Sublimation, d'une durée de 2h, a été initialement réalisée pour Radio Rectangle en 2013 (avec Frédéric Cotton, co-host) depuis le bar La Fleur En Papier Doré, à Bruxelles. Il s'agit d'une nouvelle incursion, remise en contexte, dans le riche catalogue de #SublimationVintage, qui a été très peu entendu à l'époque.

Such a filthy bassline, U-Men Front 242's debut album Geography. Front 242 would coin the term EBM (electronic body music) in the sleeve notes of their follow up album 1984's No Comment

In 1982 the original Front 242 formed by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen merged with the group Underviewer which had been formed by Patrick Codenys and Jean-Luc De Meyer. The four-piece retained the name Front 242 and self-released their first album Geography
