grilled tilefish was flavorerd with yuzu. The sauce is riz au lait.
The next dish was stewed fish, shark fin, taro potato in Kyoto, turnip, and chrysanthemum greens.
The rice was crab and hijiki rice, which was very delicious.
Dessert is oven-baked matcha cake with pear and persimmon
The tofu dish for this morning was medicinal tofu, the plate next to me was a@ vegetable stew, my companion's egg was rolled in dashi broth, and the side dishes were mentaiko for me, pickled plums for my companion, boiled vegetables, dried sardines with Japanese pepper, tuna sashimi, and shijimi clams with grated daikon radish. Pickled scallions in red vinegar and mibuna? This was my first time eating shijimi clams with grated daikon radish, and it was quite a delicacy. On the other hand, the dried sardines with Japanese pepper were sweet with sugar.
My wife's grilled fish was salmon.
The egg dish was dasimaki roll.
My egg plate were hot spring eggs and the fish is dried flounder. This flounder is more delicious than any other flounder.

🫐🍍🥝 𝘍𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵 𝘝𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘺 🍊🥭 🥥
Berries 🍓 Blackberry - 黑莓 (hēi méi)
Blackcurrant - 黑醋栗 (hēi cù lì) Note: literally translates to 'black vinegar chestnut'.
Blueberry - 蓝莓 (lán méi)
Cranberry - 蔓越莓 (màn yuè méi) Note: literally translates to 'creeping berry'.
Raspberry - 树莓 (shù méi) Note: literally translates to 'tree berry'.
Strawberry - 草莓 (cǎo méi) Note: literally translates to 'grass berry'.
Açaí - 巴西莓 (bā xī méi) Note: literally translates to 'Brazilian berry'.
Mulberry - 桑葚 (sāng shèn)
Elderberry - 接骨木莓 (jiē gǔ mù méi)
Goji berry - 枸杞 (gǒu qǐ) Citruses 🍎 Blood orange - 血橙 (xiě chéng)
Tangerine - 柑橘 (gān jú)
Grapefruit - 西柚 (xī yòu) Note: literally translates to 'Western pomelo'.
Kumquat - 金橘 (jīn jú) Note: literally translates to 'golden tangerine'.
Lemon - 柠檬 (níng méng)
Lime - 青柠 (qīng níng) Note: Chinese people have a name for a blue-green colour: 青色 which is 'cyan' in English. Technically, limes in Chinese literally translate to 'cyan lemons'. However, you may not recognize limes as particularly blue/cyan. Chinese people have a slightly different understanding of colour because historically, they didn't separate between green and blue, which is common amongst many East Asians in general. Nowadays they obviously do but may disagree with non-Chinese people on what constitutes 'green' or 'blue'.
Yuzu - 香橙 (xiāng chéng)
Orange - 橙子 (chéng zǐ)
Pomelo - 柚子 (yòu zǐ) Melons 🍉 Cantaloupe - 甜瓜 (tián guā) Note: it's hard to find a direct translation for the cantaloupe and honeydew as some translate 甜瓜 into muskmelon and 哈密瓜 into hami melon. Others translate cantaloupe or honeydew into 洋香瓜 (foreign fragrant melon).
Honeydew - 哈密瓜 (hā mì guā)
Watermelon - 西瓜 (xī guā) Misc. 🍒 Apricot - 杏 (xìng)
Cherry - 樱桃 (yīng táo)
Peach - 桃子 (táo zǐ)
Banana - 香蕉 (xiāng jiāo)
Durian - 榴莲 (liú lián)
Starfruit - 杨桃 (yáng táo)
Asian pear - 苹果梨 (píng guǒ lí) Note: literally translates to 'apple pear'.
Passionfruit - 百香果、热情果 (bǎi xiāng guǒ, rè qíng guǒ) Note: most people will use the first translation but the second is more fun.
Coconut - 椰子 (yē zi)
Dragonfruit - 火龙果 (huǒ lóng guǒ) Note: literally translates to 'fire dragon fruit'.
Grape - 葡萄 (pú táo)
Nectarine - 油桃 (yóu táo) Note: literally translates to 'oil peach'.
Pomegranate - 石榴 (shí liú) Note: people typically do not pronounce the last character with a tone so you probably don't have to bother either.
Kiwi - 猕猴桃 (mí hóu táo) The reason why kiwis have such a strange name is because of a story (unsure of veracity): mountain people in China originally thought the fruit was poisonous. Thus, they didn't eat it until they saw macaques (猕猴) eating them. That's why they're called 'macaque fruits' (猕猴桃). Uncommon Fruits 🍅 Cactus pear - 仙人掌梨 (xiān rén zhǎng lí)
Calabash - 葫芦 (hú lú)
Date - 枣 (zǎo)
Fig - 无花果 (wú huā guǒ) Note: literally translates to 'flowerless fruit'.
Jackfruit - 菠萝蜜 (bō luó mì) Note: literally translates to 'pineapple honey'.
Lychee - 荔枝 (lì zhī)
Mangosteen - 山竹 (shān zhú)
Plantain - 大蕉 (dà jiāo) Note: literally translates to 'big banana'.
Persimmon - 柿子 (shì zǐ) Fun fact: tomatoes were probably first brought to China in the 1600's and lots of people thought they were strange and foreign. Thus, tomatoes were called 'foreign persimmons' (洋柿子)or 'foreign eggplants' (番茄) depending on location. Eventually, the 'foreign persimmons' term changed to 西红柿, or Western red persimmons.
Guava - 番石榴 (fān shí liú) This is a similar story for guavas which are called 'foreign pomegranates' (番石榴).
Rambutan - 红毛丹 (hóng máo dān) Example Text
各种挑水果技巧 看完你也是专家了 -> the skill of picking various types of fruits, after reading, you will also become an expert Pomelos 看外形,水滴状的最好 -> look at its external appearance, teardrop-shaped is best. 摸果皮,挑表皮光滑的 -> touch the fruit peel, pick one that has a smooth peel. 掂一掂,重量大的口感好 -> weigh it, the heavier ones have the best taste. Grapes 3招教你挑对葡萄 -> three-pronged lesson on picking the right grapes. 一看果梗。新鲜的葡萄果梗为绿色 -> first, look at the fruit stem. Fresh grapes will have green stems. 二看果皮和种子色泽 -> Secondly, look at the colour of the fruit peel and seeds. 三尝风味。葡萄成熟时,应该呈现品种固有的风味 -> Thirdly, taste the flavour. When grapes are mature, they should show a variant-distinct flavour. Oranges 3招挑出最甜的橘子 -> a three-pronged approach to choosing the sweetest orange. 一看:大小和颜色。橘子个头以中等为最佳... 颜色越红,通常熟得越好,味道越甜 -> first, look: size and colour. Oranges that are medium-sized are the best-tasting... the redder the colour, typically the more mature the orange and the greater sweetness. 二摸:光滑程度. -> Secondly, touch: smoothness. 三捏:测试弹性... 用手捏下去,感觉果肉结实但不硬,一松手,就能立刻弹回原状 -> thirdly, pinch: test the elasticity. Use your hand to pinch it, feel the fruit flesh as firm but not hard, once you let go, it immediately bounces back. Apples 苹果听声 -> listen to the sound of the apple. 敲敲看,如声音不脆,表示不新鲜 -> knock on it, if the sound isn't crisp, it means it's not fresh. Pineapples 菠萝看叶片 -> look at the pineapples leaves. 若叶片呈深绿色,表示日照良好,甜度和汁液都很多 -> as leaves display a dark green colour, it shows that the fruit received a good amount of sun exposure, both its sweetness and juiciness will be great. Strawberries 草莓看果蒂... 新鲜的草莓果蒂鲜嫩,呈深绿色 -> Look at strawberry stems... fresh strawberries will have freshly tender stems, displaying a deep green colour.
Bananas 香蕉看表皮 -> look at the banana's peel. 表皮有许多黑色斑点,且色泽深黄的香蕉成熟,这样的才最可口 -> mature bananas have a peel with many black stripes/spots and a deep yellow colour, this way they will be tastiest.

Ro's favourite sweets?
Also not me having missing Insu and old emperor moment lol. Still supoorting you but Definitely going to miss how things used to be
i think i've answered a similar ask in with the old ro roster but i'll answer it again!! and :( for the insu loss but at least he's still in the book for you to annoy befriend!!
hansol: yakgwa. it's a layered cookie made with honey, sesame oil, ginger, and pressed into moulds to give them a distinctive flower shape. they are then deep fried and covered in a sweet, sticky syrup. hansol prefers not to indulge, but he always thinks 'one more' when reaching for these. he snacked on them a lot as a child.
yongsun: half moon shaped rice cakes with sweet filling such as red bean paste, honey, yuzu or other such ingredients. their mother used to make these for their father, but after the death of the empress, yongsun no longer remembers what their mother's recipe tastes like. sometimes, they sneak to the kitchen and attempt to make it, but it never tastes the same.
wooyoung: dried persimmons. they are harvested in the autumn and strung up during the winter, during which they dry up and a thin layer of powdery persimmon sugar forms on the outside. in the first year he moved to the northern regions, he planted a persimmon tree there.
raon: jeonggwa, also known as dried fruit slices. testing poisons and antidotes and herbal concoctions have made her taste buds very sensitive, and she prefers milder flavours because of that. she also prefers them because they are easy to snack on mindlessly when she's doing research in the clinic.
no-eul: dragon's beard candy. no-eul is fascinated by the pulling and stretching and gets easily excited when the craftsman puts on a good show. the thin white sugar strands are then wrapped around crushed peanuts, and no-eul enjoys shoving the entire thing into their mouth for a taste of sweetness.
????: curdled milk sweets. it is made by mixing cheese curds with sugar and wild berries and cutting the curds into different shapes and patterns. they take a while to melt in the mouth, so ???? enjoys sucking on a piece when on a long horseback ride over the mountains.

How did you like the persimmon btw? I remember seeing you mention having one for the first time; Are there any other fruits you'd like to try? :o
Oh I loved it! it was not too sweet and the pulp had this very nice jelly texture. My cousin made an apple pie and this might sound gross but I really enjoyed it eating the crumbs with the persimmon haha!
I'd love to also try yuzu. I've seen it used for aromitizing other foods, but I wonder what it tastes like on its own. There's even a few vegetables from my own country that I have never tried that I loved to eat, like caiba! Apparently you can make it stuffed with meat and it's very delicious. I'm hoping 2024 is filled with new fruits and veggies to try!

今日の作り置き、丸ごと人参サラダ。
まだまだある人参、残りはポタージュかなぁ。

あと、こないだ頂いた人んちの庭の柿で柿柚子。人それぞれ好みだけど、私はこれに蜂蜜は合わないと思ったのできび砂糖で。糖蜜でも良さそうだけど、せっかくの柿と柚子のキレイな色が濁りそうだよね。
柿柚子は明日のお楽しみ。

A Taste of Japan: Exploring the Unique World of Japanese Fruits

Japan is famous for its exquisite cuisine, and its dedication to fresh, seasonal ingredients extends to the world of fruit. Beyond familiar favorites like apples and strawberries, Japan offers a vibrant array of unique fruits, some with distinct flavors and appearances. Let's embark on a journey to discover the delightful world of Japanese fruits!
Unique Flavors and Textures:
Nashi (Japanese Pear): These crisp, juicy pears are larger than their Western counterparts and boast a milder, lighter flavor. Their rough skin adds a textural contrast to the soft flesh.
Yuzu: This tart and fragrant citrus fruit is rarely eaten on its own, but its zest and juice add a unique zing to savory dishes, drinks, and desserts.
Melons: In Japan, melons are elevated to a near-luxury status. From the classic green-fleshed muskmelon to exotic varieties with white or yellow flesh, these melons are known for their sweetness and meticulous cultivation techniques.
Seasonal Delights:
Mikan (Mandarin Orange): A quintessential winter fruit, these easy-to-peel mandarins are juicy, sweet, and a welcome burst of sunshine during the colder months.
Strawberries: Japanese strawberries are renowned for their large size, vibrant color, and intense sweetness. These are often enjoyed plain or used in luxurious desserts.
Kaki (Japanese Persimmon): Available in fall, persimmons come in various types, some enjoyed crisp and astringent, while others are allowed to ripen for a softer, sweeter flavor.
Beyond the Fruit Bowl:
Japanese fruits extend their influence beyond the realm of fresh eating. Yuzu kosho, a condiment made with yuzu, chili peppers, and salt, adds a complex layer of flavor to dishes. Fruity mochi, dumplings filled with sweet bean paste infused with fruit flavors, are popular treats. Even Japanese sakes can have delicate hints of fruits like plums or peaches.
A Celebration of Freshness:
The appreciation for fresh, seasonal ingredients is a cornerstone of Japanese cuisine. Fruits are no exception, and their cultivation, presentation, and consumption are often elevated to an art form. So next time you're looking for a unique and delicious taste of Japan, explore the wonders of their fruit selection!

✋ ( for agatha ! ♡ )
hold my muse's hand. / accepting!
agatha's gaze lowers as ahri slips her hand into her own. it was soft like flower petals and warm and seems to fit so perfectly in her hand. there was a promise on the other's lips to show her something beautiful. no, not just that, but breath-taking, and so as she leads her, agatha eagerly follows along. she's known the fox woman for only a brief time, and yet... there is a sense of safety she feels, regardless of her sharp teeth and claws, regardless of her inhuman appearance. agatha is certainly inhuman as well, though less noticeably so. still, ahri seems more welcoming of her entry into her woods than she does of most others.
she's led past trees in bloom, patches of honeysuckle and phlox, the air heady with the sweet scent of their flowers. though worn, the path beneath her feet is still soft and earthy and she feels no fear of stepping on sharp stones or debris left behind by humans. this is truly a safe haven for those that are like ahri and agatha.
she's soon greeted by boughs of wisteria and white and pink cherry blossoms and japanese maples, by yuzu and persimmon trees, by patches of ivy. it almost seems that every plant native to the country is right here. birdsong and the chirping of insects reach her ears, her gaze moving over this earthly paradise to see animals gathering here as well. agatha exhales a sharp breath, caught off guard by the sheer beauty of the forest. her eyes are wide and shimmering in her wonder. " it... this place, it's— i-it's b-beyond words. " she breathes out, speaking quietly and softly so as not to frighten anything away. with a growing smile, she looks to ahri, giving her hand a light squeeze. " th-thank you, ahri. i— i-i'm honored you w-would show me this. "
#sorry for the delay!#i wasn't sure how to answer this for a bit#but then i remembered the post you made a bit ago of how ahri might lead someone into the woods to show them something really pretty or#to kill them ksjdhf#i went with the former of course#bc aggie would most certainly appreciate something like this#and honored and flattered that ahri would trust her enough to bring her here#ic: aggie.#vulpesse
