diavolo;
It's only reasonable to give diavolo's child a name fit for a monarch since they will play a highly significant role in the devildom’s society. they will be welcomed into the world with high expectations on their shoulders
If it’s a boy, he would choose..rufus, which means red-haired king, a perfect name for an heir. For a secondborn, he would choose teivel, which means devil
If it’s a girl, he would choose..diana which means divine. another similar name, but with different meaning, is arcadia which means place of peace and contentment—after all, his main goal is to bring harmony among the three realms.
barbatos;
he chose the names based on their meaning but to also to express his values and duties.
If it’s a boy, he would choose..mayhem which means "chaos" or "permanent injury." he always claims that he chose the name because it is related to space and time—but it is actually a tribute to his favorite metal band. he also likes bensik which means "loyal, faithful person."
If it’s a girl, he would choose..maeyna which means "helper, supporter." He also likes sybilla which means "prophecy teller," "timekeeper," or "oracle."
 solomon;
he is the only human here, but despite that, he refuses to choose a basic name for his baby. He is a wizard, he is bound to be creative
If it’s a boy, he would choose..menelik which means "son of the wise"—fun fact, menelik was king solomon’s son according to the medieval ethiopian book. he also likes kesem which means "magic" or "sorcery" in hebrew.
If it’s a girl, he would choose..tafathe which means "distillation," a method used in chemistry and potion making—it’s also name the name of king solomon's daughter according the Bible. he would also like miriam which means "gift of love" or "beloved." he chose it because he would never wants his child to feel unloved or lonely like he occasionally does.
simeon;
a baby is always a joy, especially when it is his child. he would undoubtedly choose a joyful, holy name fit for an angel
If it’s a boy, he would choose..sachiel which means "covering of God." he is a soldier of the lord after all. he also likes asher which means "miracle."
If it’s a girl, he would choose..rachael which means "one with purity," “ewe" or “lamb”. he also likes eden, which means "paradis," "place of pleasure and delight." the name has a strong connection to the bible.

Emperor Menelik II Defeats Italian Expedition
Emperor Menelik (Menilik) II is best remembered as a great Ethiopian emperor who defeated a major Italian military expedition in the Battle of Adowa. That war victory, however, was much more important than just a simple military accomplishment. Many historians have credited Menelik II with preserving the independence of his people by halting the expansion of the Italian military and strengthening his kingdom through political and economic modernization.

The Palmares Quilombo
Quilombos were sustainable states formed by enslaved Africans during slavery in Brazil. The most famous one was Palmares, which was established in 1600 and managed to survive for a century. When the Dutch and Portuguese repeatedly attacked the Palmares, warriors from the state managed to fight them off and defeat the Europeans multiple times across the span of one century.

First North American Revolt by Enslaved Black People
In 1526, nearly four decades before the first permanent European settlement, North America saw its first uprising by a group of enslaved Black people. Spanish explorers, led by conquistador Lucas Vazquez de Ayllon, brought enslaved Blacks to what is now the Carolinas. But in the midst of unrest and widespread sickness, they were able to successfully pull off a massive revolt.

The Hyksos vs. Ancient Egyptians
The battle between the Hyksos and the ancient Egyptians was a fight to reunite the country after the Hyksos took northern Egypt. To this day, it isn’t exactly clear how the Hyksos managed to take Northern Egypt, but there is a little more research about how the ancient Egyptians fought back and reclaimed their land. King Tao of Thebes led the efforts to reclaim Northern Egypt, and his son Kamose took over leadership after Tao was killed in battle. The Hyksos were eventually forced to barricade themselves in their city of Avaris before they were finally seized and expelled. Eventually they returned to Egypt again only to face a brutal defeat by Kamose’s son Ahmose I who pushed the Hyksos out of Egypt again.

The Triumph of the Accompong Maroons
The triumph of the Maroons of Accompong is a part of Jamaica’s history that is still celebrated today. The Jan. 6 celebration commemorates Maroon leader Kojo’s victory over the British in 1738, which ultimately resulted in a peace treaty between both parties.

The Haitian Revolution
The Haitian Revolution, which began in 1791, was one of the largest slave revolts in history and it was the only one to result in the founding of a state. The revolution took place in the French colony of Saint-Domingue and was the key to putting an end to slavery there. This defining moment in both European and American history proved to be one of the most successful uprisings by enslaved Black people.

Duel between Prince Henri of Orleans and the Count of Turin, Vaucresson, France, 1897.
Victor Emmanuel of Savoy challenged Prince Henri d'Orléans to a duel after Henri described the Italian soldiers taken prisoner in Ethiopia by Emperor Menelik II's Abyssinians in the First Italo-Ethiopian War as cowards. The Count of Turin Victor Emmanuel received the consent of King Humbert I and the sword duel took place at 5 a.m. on 15 August 1897 in the Bois de Marechaux in Vancreeson. It lasted 26 minutes and resulted in a draw: a serious wound in the abdomen of the Prince of Orléans and Victor Emmanuel wounded in his right hand.

“Have I told you how much I'm starting to hate this place?" Menelik huffed as he took a seat next to Rafael, their royal physician. He was glad that he had come along with them, you never knew what could happen and Menelik certainly didn't trust foreign physicians to take care of him or his family. "I'm guessing you also went through that ridiculous interrogation?" Menelik assumed that they had made sure to get everyone present interrogated but you never knew. He doubted this would get them anywhere but at least they were trying.

we  are  so  glad  to  see  you  safe,  princess  aaliyah  solomon  of  ethiopia !  it’s  dangerous  out  in  the  world  these  days,  but  i  hear  that  you  are  adventurous  and  charismatic  enough  to  handle  it.  just  don’t  let  your  stubbornness  bring  you  down  !  stay  on  your  guard,  because  with  your  secret  being  at  risk  for  exposure,  you  wouldn’t  want  everyone  to  find  out  you're  trying  to  intentionally  sabotage  your  betrothal  .

background.
name  :  aaliyah solomon. age  :  thirty. date  of  birth  :  may 25th. horoscope  :  gemini. title(s)  :  princess of ethiopia. family  :  king bakkalcha, queen malaika, prince menelik, prince desta. marital  status  :  betrothed. sexuality  :  pansexual,  panromatnic. spoken languages : amharic, somali, oromo, afar, english, urdu, tigrina, yoruba, french, passable arabic. allegiance  :  ethiopia. taken in character connections : none.
headcanons.
born into a place of high standing and duty that comes with it, as a child aaliyah was content to follow the teachings of her parents while toddling along behind her older siblings, learning what it was to be a princess. a voracious appetite for knowledge that slowed as she acquired more and more, easily becoming bored as a child once she'd finished her lessons. precocious, she would amuse herself in other ways, watching everyone around her to pick up their habits - emulating the speech patterns of her mother, demeanor of her father, picking up hobbies that were just as quickly abandoned as she grew.
though she didn't abandon the teachings of her parents or tutors, aaliyah gradually became more difficult to handle as her curiosity about other countries grew. not to form alliances with them, no, but the underbellies that would lead them astray. she has never cared to form alliances despite them being necessary for ethiopia to remain a key player in the world, and her mouth often gets her into trouble that her quick wit and intellect can't get her out of.
aaliyah knows her duty, and knows what she needs to do to further ethiopia's standing in the world, but also can't help but to think that it's not worth it. each kingdom has it's own problems and adding more to their own is asinine, coupled with the fact that aaliyah doesn't want to get married because she's being told she has to. the subtle ways she's trying to send the betrothal she thinks are small enough to go unnoticed, but considering that she's never done things halfway nor quietly in her life, it's only a matter of time before she's found out.

Maybe our ideas of what power is are all wrong. Maybe we’ve got this idea in our heads about how to do leadership, but maybe we’re focusing on the wrong aspects of it. Today is a day for leading from behind. Be strong and quiet, know where you’re going and work on leaving no one behind. And remember, being powerful and strong (and directed and determined and smart and commanding and in control) is only a part of who you are as a person; only a piece that makes up your entirety. Don’t forget those other pieces and practice not bullying yourself for having weak or unstable pieces. We all do, so accept the brokenness and let it have its place in your being. Let all pieces speak truth to power today. [Image shows 4. Arwe, also known as Wainaba, in Ethiopian mythology, is a serpent-king who rules for four hundred years before being destroyed by the founder of the Solomonic dynasty. His story comes in a number of versions, all of which have him as a tyrannical rules who demands sacrifice. The myth is part of a wider tradition of serpent- or dragon-kings, such as the Babylonian dragon.
Tumblr media
The veneration of Arwe, which was widespread, predates Christianity in Ethiopia,which became a state religion under Ezana of Axum in the early 4th century.Arwe ("wild beast" in Geʽez)is a snake-king who rules for four hundred years) over the land that is to become Ethiopia. He is a giant serpent ("No, Arwe is not beyond the hill, for the hill you see is Arwe") to whom humans must sacrifice their virgin daughters and cattle to calm his endless hunger. He reigns with terror until he is defeated by a man who becomes the next ruler of the land, and his daughter becomes the Queen of Sheba, and then the mother of Menelik I.
It is believed by some Ethiopians that Arwe, or Wainaba, ruled after Aksumawi, who is the great-grandson of Noah and son of Itiopis according to the Book of Aksum. Ethiopis, who was seventh in the ancestral lines, is also believed to be the twelfth direct descendant of Adam
Tumblr media
In one version of Arwe's myth, a stranger comes to the land where Arwe reigns and after seeing a woman cry over the fact that she has to give her daughter in sacrifice to the serpent, the man offers to kill the serpent. He requests the woman to provide him with a spotless white lamb and a bowl with juice from the poisonous Euphorbia tree. He faces the serpent and offers him the lamb and the juice, which Arwe accepts not knowing it will be the cause of his death. After Arwe is finally defeated, the people offer the man to become their ruler, a position he gladly accepts until he is ready to let his daughter Makeda reign. She becomes the Queen of Sheba, and its capital city is Axum. In another version of this myth, Wainaba, the serpent ruler, is on his way traveling north from the district Tamben to Aksum when a man called Angabo promises the Aksumites to kill the serpent in exchange for the throne. He applied various forms of magic to the road the serpent traveled on, including an iron instrument that the buried under the road. He attacked Wainaba with fire, and burns him to death. Legend has it he was buried in May Wayno, where his grave still is
Tumblr media
The serpent and the saints
Some versions of the myth clearly combine pre-Christian and Christian elements, in order to make Christianity (specifically the Nine Saints) victorious over a pagan monster. One of these is found among tribes in the north and published by Enno Littmann in 1904: the Tigre people worship a dragon; families sacrifice their oldest daughter as well as mead and milk. When it's the turn of Eteye Azeb ("Queen of the South"), a family's oldest child, she is tied to a tree for the dragon to take, but seven saints sit down in the tree's shade. They wonder if she's Mary but she explains she is a human, to be sacrificed. When the dragon comes, two of the saints hesitate but the third, Abba Mentelit, attacks him and then all seven kill the dragon with a cross. Some blood from the dragon lands on the girl's heel, which becomes like the heel of an ass. When she returns to her village, her people send her away because they think she ran away, but the next day she shows them the body, whereupon they make her the leader of the village, and she has a maiden appointed as her second. Her deformity is cured when she visits Solomon with her second, both disguised as men. He tricks them both, and has sex with them; her son is Menelek. This version was written down in 1902, and had been retold by a Tigre man from a village north of Keren, Eritrea.
Littmann notes the ubiquity of the dragon in various mythologies of (what he then called) the Semitic peoples, including that of the Babylonian dragon, and especially among the people of Ethiopia.Many Ethiopic sources place "King Arwe" at the beginning of history.The Tigre variant, with its seven saints (originally they were the nine saints who missionized in Ethiopia in the 5th century), thus add a Christian turn to a pre-Christian tradition, and the Christian saints deliver the world from a great evil. Littmann identifies the saint Mentelit with Abba Pantelewon.Other instances of the nine saints killing the dragon are found in a hymn to Abuna Aregawi, and a very detailed version is found in a homily on Abba Garima

T'Chakia: prompt "this is a nightmare*
For the reincarnation/soulmate au: The Physical World and Our Place In It [ tumblr] + [ao3]
warnings: "only supposed to marry royalty" argument (not much of a warning but still)
addition: this is now edited and posted on ao3
Tumblr media
For those who are old enough to remember, King T’Chaka of Wakanda has had a temper. A strong, resilient ruler, he is an unrelenting stickler to tradition, it being instilled in his son since he’d been old enough to comprehend (and will later do the same to his daughter when she is born).
It’s currently years prior when T’Chaka still ruled; when aforementioned prince, T’Challa, hits the cusp of his tenth year of life, he unintentionally impedes closely-held tradition. All it takes is a simple interaction:  He’d been out with his parents and surrounded by their Dora Milaje on an outing into the city, and while searching the newest technical toys for one to beg to his mother, he’s approached by a young girl who comments about the toys he’s holding.
“I got that one last month. It’s one of my favorites,” she lifts a shoulder and smiles politely.
Young T’Challa hadn’t thought anything about it at the time and for much longer into the future—he hadn’t known any better anyway—he didn’t mean anything by it as he follows up with a question asking what makes the toy so good.
Surrounded by her Dora, Ramonda watches as the children hit it off immediately—which is good, she thinks; her son could use more friends considering those he has live a good way away from the palace. Ramonda speaks with the guardians of the girl and they set up a playdate.
It’s found out that the girl is named Nakia. She’s from the Water Tribe. Age eleven. Hates the color grey and her favorite animal is the Menelik’s bushbuck. She takes ring blade lessons and wants to become a humanitarian when she grows up. She tells corny jokes and is a morning person and already stands a good two inches taller than T’Challa.
And, by age eighteen, he’s utterly, downright smitten with her.
One of her favorite “cheats” from her trading schedule is swimming. She admires rhinos, hates cold weather, and her favorite color is the soft, darkened shade of crimson red. Like Cape primrose. Like the breasts of birds. Like what she dyes her kinky afro, it ablaze under the golden sun and stealing his breath.

loved.
today... was perfect.
i had myself a solo day. the sun was shining and it was so warm, like it is every year on my birthday.
this guy i met at a yelp event- he owns a cookie store inside of essex market. he told me to stop by and he LEGIT GAVE ME A BOX OF 40 COOKIES 😭😭😭
and then i walked around different bookstores/coffee shops in les which was amazing.
then went to the park to read a book. they had live music playing, it was lovely.
then ktown to eat 설렁탕 -- i think i'm outgrowing that meal haha.
then i came home and genuinely thought i was going to be surprised.. but nobody was here!
that's when sheri and erin called me and i had suspected something was up, but i didn't realize that my friends would be here: bj, nene, menelik, jordy. i was so shocked and started crying a little..
man. i cannot believe that i am so loved. i wonder why it's so hard for me to grasp that concept, or to believe that i actually am. i know my friends 'love' me, but i am realizing that i do impact a lot of people's lives the way i try to. my friends genuinely love me, and they value me so much. they see me for who i am and love me for it. they think i make their lives better.
i hope i can really be that kind of friend. 24-- i want to be even more intentional, i want to love better, to give it my all, to be the friend my friends believe me to be. i want to prove it to myself.
and well, i am realizing that i am very in love with bee and i love her. in her card she wrote this, "i often say.. what could be better than this? you are the most beautiful dream i've ever had." and that breaks my heart in the most healing way. my whole life.. i wondered if i'd ever be loved the way i deserved or wanted to. if someone could really see all of me and love me anyways. but bj has come swept all my insecurities under the rug and covered me in her adoration and care for me. i hope i can be with her for as long as i can.
and my sweet jordy, she did it. i can't imagine how stressed she must've been trying to plan all of this, making sure it was perfect. and then painting me that incredible collage of images, reminding me how loved i am. she put "little esther... i wish you knew how loved you'd be."
i wish my younger self would've known that. i remember feeling so lonely and perhaps unloved as a child. not fitting in, wanting to have better friends, more friends, etc.
but i can whole heartedly and confidently say that there is no place i'd rather be, and i'm absolutely where i belong. i am living my best fucking life, with the most incredible friends, in mf new york! i don't deserve for all my dreams to have come true... and yet... here i am basking in it all.
Jesus, thank you for today. for 24.
and even though my parents forgot about my birthday, didn't wish me one, i am feeling more loved because of it. my home is here and my family are my friends. thank you.
