I think Veilguard is a game that gains more and more layers as you play it again

Not necessarily the main plotline- the baseline story of “stop the end of the world” is (necessarily) straightforward. Which is actually great because it allows for the examination of the characters- why they want to save the world (lampshaded with one of Bellara’s conversations about the ���why” of the hero in her story), what they think a better world looks like, their goals and aspirations, and how they work with others.

Veilguard allows the companions to shine and that shine gets brighter on subsequent playthroughs. You get to see Taash’s straight-line thinking and how it helps the other companions with their emotions (they have a banter with Harding where they basically tell her to name her anger and let her feel it and that REALLY resonated with me)

It lets you see little details like how Bellara will never say aloud that she knows she might need to kill Cyrian. She’s always caught up in how emotionally hard everything is- finding out real history of the elves, facing the Evanuris, facing her BROTHER- and she’s very honest about her feelings. EXCEPT when it comes to the reality of the action she may have to take. Speaking it makes it real and she will not do that until she has no other choice.

Meanwhile Davrin gets to show off his caring side- on subsequent playthroughs you start to peek beneath his confidence, his monster hunter warrior side. You start to see how he’s actually good at keeping morale up, keeping people focused and helping control emotions. He’s always, ALWAYS looking after Rook especially, helping keep the Boss in the game while giving them a break to breathe.

One of the most impactful replay moments for me was choosing to save Manfred, when on my first run I told Emmrich to become a lich. The emotion in Emmrich’s voice when he says he “wouldn’t trade this for anything”, watching Manfred with pride? That whole conversation highlights that one of Emmrich’s great fears of death is no longer being there to help and influence the things and people he cares about. But he never SAYS that. He just says he fears death. And it’s up to you hearing the deeper parts of that fear to get it.

I’ve said before that Veilguard is about Solas, and thematically it is, but it’s also called The Veilguard because that’s where the story is. It’s about your little team and their friendships and rivalries and fears and desires. And so much of that you miss if you only play the game once.

hey! thank you for checking up on me, this was really sweet!

i SWEAR i did not die. i just got a bit busy doing SladeRobin Week (which i will finish so help me god-) as well as things in my real life. i'm still trying to find the balance of like. fandom creation and working. i am very lucky to have the living situation that i do rn, but it is the sort of schedule where i do have to be ready to watch a baby at really any given point so. it's a tricky balance right now, but i'm going to be active here again! maybe not as many asks answered a day as before, but i want to try to answer like, a few a day and whatnot.

i also think i got briefly overwhelmed, in that i got more asks faster than i answered them. which is the opposite of a problem and something i'm very lucky for! but it did make it difficult for me to keep up and know what to answer next. (this is *not* a discouragement to sending asks! i love them all and pls send as many as you want! i just am a little slow sometimes so i appreciate the patience! <3)

DUNCAN HIT ON GWEN WHILE HE WAS HOLDING COURTNEY. OOOHHHHH MY GOD

HE NEVER SEEMED SORRY EITHER. THE SAD LITTLE SORRY HE GAVE COURTNEY WHILE COVERED IN SPAGHETTI WAS A PLATITUDE

Not to MENTION Gwen was the one to carry the relationship once it started

Gwen fought so hard to deny her feelings for Duncan but Duncan ultimately decided to reciprocate so she opened herself up to the relationship

Gwen was the one to start the talk about it being ok if he wanted to stop the situationship and lead them into taking it slow

Throughout that conversation all Duncan did and say by the way was kiss her and say “that’s why I like you” not adding anything of substance

And then what does he do. Pretend to still have feelings for Courtney in front of Gwen without telling her his plan so she gets her feelings hurt

Side note Duncan is a bastard and I hate him so much

Anyway my point is Duncan was so so so much worse than Gwen when it came to them getting together

But everyone dogpiled on gwen

Except Cody. Cody was sensible and knocked out Duncan thank you Cody

And DUNCAN MADE IT TO THE FINAL DAMN FIVE DESPITE BEING A BASTARD

I think instead of throwing challenges so Gwen got eliminated Courtney should of kicked ass at challenges and watched as Duncan got kicked out of the plane
