to be completely honest, the only actual queer stories i’ve read in the fandom have been centered around steddie.

keep it steady, eddie (pretty popular amongst steddie fans so you might have heard of it already! includes robin x vickie)

i like to see you in the morning light (fix it fic for canon, where steve was eddie’s alibi when he survives 😌)

and of course, one of my ultimate steddie fic recs and one of my ultimate fic recs for this entire fandom, the lathe. this is the time loop fic for the fandom. i won’t be taking criticism. it made me bawl like a baby and was one of the first major fics i ever read in the fandom. i’ll never sing high enough praise for it. the twists in it are fucking remarkable. it’s just. it’s an experience. also, very popular, and for very good reason.

i would like to note that i haven’t read most of these in a hot minute, so my brief recounts aren’t very helpful probably. also, i know there’s a few notable authors amongst steddie readers, but i only included fics i’ve personally read.

as i said, i’m begging for anyone who sees this who has more queer fic recs to add to do so! i know there’s several in the fandom currently compiling lists as well as there’s been a few robin fics coming across my dash — i just haven’t read them yet! most of my queer fics i’ve gathered from ao3 as you can see lol. in ao3 we trust in this household 🫡

i just read someone blaming madeline for patrochilles as a couple existing and telling people to write/read apollon x hyacinthus… as if aeschylus, one of the most influential names in greek literature, did not literally write them as a couple back in ancient greece… but it was certainly madeline who came up with the idea!! plus apollon and hyacinthus do not have the same dynamic as patrochilles, acting like apollon and hyacinthus is a substitute for patrochilles is stupid. it makes it seem like you think the person just likes the couple because they're m/m and therefore any m/m couple works for them. i honestly consider this almost something at least slightly motivated by homophobia… something like damn these people should restrict themselves to this ship that I chose because I know what an acceptable queer ship is and, anyway, since they only like queer things without any other personality factor any couple consisting of two men will be their otp! that's not even as complimentary to apollo x hyacinthus as they think it is, it's basically throwing them in the shadow of patrochilles. people really show that they do not read the ancient sources while complaining endlessly that people do not read the ancient sources….

Honestly, I used to be moderately interested in apollo/hyacinthus, I even enjoyed some art here and there, but the way so many people on tiktok/instagram/tumblr etc recently seem to be trying to push Apollo/Hyacinthus as the new "it" thing, or seem to be in a race to publish the TSOA version of the pairing while simultaneously shitting on tsoa is just.... lmao.... and, you know, that's perfectly fine. Whatever gets people writing and creating is fine by me but why do you need to bash another pairing in order to uplift your own? There's room for everyone here. But a lot of people don't seem to get that. Trying to bring current fandom fuckery and discourse into millenia old ships is at least laughable to me. Like please, I beg you, find another hobby.

(Also, re: the whole "madeline miller invented patrochilles" thing, I just have to quote what a mutual told me recently: when will those ancient Greeks (Aeschylus, Plato, Pindar, Sosias, among others) stop taking inspiration from TSOA for their patrochilles fanfic and fanart???? 🤨 Enough is enough!!)

My Good Omens fanfictions are kicking off. Or, should I say, Lady Crowley is. In one of the stories, she was supposed to end up with Hastur. No, she decided she wants to be with Michael.

I guess, I'll need to come up with a seperate F!Crowley x Hastur storyline, because I'm not letting go of that ship.

Honestly, if she isn't the General, and the leader of angels in Good Omens, it's a crime. Because, if she is, why haven't I seen her in armour/uniform in any of the screencaps?.. Either way, her version I intend to paint is amazing.

Hob Gadling traditional folk music collection.

Been thinking about a sort of Hob Gadling character playlist composed entirely of British folk music. Songs he might have listened to throughout his life and resonated with. This is also just a little excuse for me to share some of my favorite folk songs from across the history of the British Isles :) Most of these are British in origin, but a couple are Scottish.

Some of these choices are loosely based on the fic And In The Waking World We Want And Wait by @qqueenofhades because at this point it's basically canon to me and has considerably influenced my perception of the character. Furthermore, I'm writing this with Dreamling in mind because... Well because I want to.

I'm attaching recordings for each piece, but keep in mind that, by the nature of folk music, songs (both melody and lyrics, as well as accompaniment and performance choices) are intrinsically altered in every performance and there is no single correct interpretation of a piece. If you don't like the recordings I picked, I encourage you to seek out your own :)

I am not a music historian, just a classical singer with a love of traditional folk and a cursory education on music history.

Lastly, keep in mind that folk music in the Late Medieval and Early Modern music exists in a much different form than it does today, both in its lyrical and melodic content. Of the songs surviving from that period, the majority are liturgical in nature. Those that aren't are generally about farming, changing seasons, and (of course) drinking. I've done my best, but most of these pieces aren't perfect fits. Still, what character playlist is?

Also, I'm using one of many translations of the original ballad, but there's also an excellent folk punk adaptation by The Forgetmenauts which you should listen to if you like the story. Generally, I'm not doing this ballad any justice with my little 2-line snippet and I encourage you to look into it more yourself.)

1813: "The Last Rose of Summer" (Thomas Moore) (Note: I was a bit conflicted about adding this one. The song is about the pain of losing those you love to time, and the loneliness that comes from outlining your companions, both of which are sentiments I feel are very applicable to Hob. However, the song also implies that death is a mercy in the face of such loneliness, which obviously doesn't align with Hob's worldview.)

Benjamin Britten, original composer unknown) (Note: Although the text of the song itself doesn't necessarily have any strong Hob Vibes, the most widely known arrangement of this piece was done by Benjamin Britten, one of the country's most famed composers and also a fairly open homosexual. This, combined with the text of the song and the time that this arrangement was written, gives the song a distinctly queer vibe, at least to me, and so it makes the list. The recording attached is by Britten's life partner, Peter Pears.)

Fic ideas who knows if I'll ever get around to writing or even drawing as a comic:

YEARS IN THE FUTURE post canon, the artifacts department discovers time traveling capabilities in a weapon used by a renegade. Conflict happens relating to Maggie, dunno quite what kind but probably the tragic kind.

And somehow someway Nova and Adrian decided to go back in time to prevent all of this. They go back to when both of them were roughly 12 years old. The moment they collect their bearings they see they are right in front of a children's home

They go inside and Nova asks for her sister, giving a brief explanation of their situation backed up by the most recognizable 12 year old right beside her Adrian.. The person she asks is still very bamboozled but clearly little voices heard. Scampering is heard from upstairs, little feet running down the stairs.

Door to the front bursts open and there stands Nova's five year old little sister.

Nova can't keep herself standing and Maggie can't stay put. She runs into her sister's arms the moment it clicks that her sister came back for her. She'd be so excited, she's VIBRATING and there are so many words coming out of her mouth all at once for Adrian nor Nova to discern. From cheers of being right to trust her gut that someone would come claim her, to her own tears, to a BUNCH of questions about Nova and herself, etc etc

Nova is frozen, and after a few minutes gets the strength to wrap her arms around the kid. Since it's Maggie, she checks to make sure her bracelet is still there. It. It is.. Adrian and her are both puzzles at the kid's actions but Nova is reeling more from the fact her little sister is here. Alive.

Maggie notices after calming down from her excitement that Nova's acting off. Adrian quick to reassure that Nova's just stunned she could find her again. Maggie stands up and pulls at Nova's hands to get her to stand up, she does. And Maggie decides, y'know what I have just the thing that will cheer up my sister.

Incorporating my hc that Maggie, when she still has hope someone would come for her, stole so that she'd have only the BEST gifts for her future family, she brings Nova to her hidden stash. Plenty of valuables that she willingly gives Nova, and a long with the valuables are crayon drawings of what Maggie imagined it might be like if when she found her sister

If Nova wasn't crying already that was the final straw.
