Someone cared for him, so now he didn't have to do it all by himself anymore.

But it hadn't been a painter or a plumber, it had been Lucy. And all she had to do was be there.

After their hug outside the room of his father at the hospice, Tim had surrendered to the fact that he very much loved Lucy and that he could do very little about it. It was just a fact at this point. Her teasing smiles became sexy instead of exasperating, her curiosity an invitation instead of a warning sign, her love something he could embrace — just like she held him. He brushed her hair back to whisper something in her ear at a rowdy bar, he grabbed her hand to help her up the steep parts on their Saturday hikes, he hugged her after impromptu taco trucks dinners.
