Understanding Point Level Indicators: Applications, Types, and Benefits
In industrial processes where precise measurement and control are paramount, point level indicators play a crucial role. These instruments provide essential information about the level of liquids, solids, or powders in tanks, silos, or vessels. Whether it's monitoring inventory levels, preventing overfilling or emptying, or ensuring efficient operation, point level indicators offer reliable solutions across various industries.
1. What is a Point Level Indicator?
A point level indicator is a device used to detect the presence or absence of material at a specific point within a container. Unlike continuous level sensors, which provide continuous measurement, point level indicators simply indicate whether the material level has reached a predetermined point. This simplicity makes them ideal for applications where precise level control at specific thresholds is required.
2. Types of Point Level Indicators
a. Mechanical Level Switches: These switches use mechanical mechanisms, such as floats, to detect material levels. When the material reaches the designated level, the switch is activated, signaling the presence of material.
b. Capacitance Probes: Capacitance probes utilize changes in capacitance to detect material presence. When the material comes into contact with the probe, it alters the capacitance, triggering a signal.
c. Vibrating Forks: Vibrating fork point level indicators consist of two prongs that vibrate at their natural frequency. When material covers the forks, the vibration frequency changes, indicating material presence.
d. Optical Level Sensors: These sensors use light to detect material presence. When material obstructs the optical beam, the sensor triggers a signal.
e. Conductivity Probes: Conductivity probes measure the electrical conductivity of the material. When the material reaches the probe, completing an electrical circuit, it triggers a signal.
f. Rotary Paddle Switches: Rotary paddle switches employ a rotating paddle that is stopped or impeded when material reaches a certain level, signaling its presence.
3. Applications of Point Level Indicators
a. Inventory Management: Point level indicators are commonly used in inventory management systems to monitor material levels in storage tanks or silos. By providing timely alerts when material levels reach predetermined thresholds, they help prevent stockouts or overfilling.
b. Process Control: In industrial processes, maintaining precise material levels is essential for ensuring optimal operation and product quality. Point level indicators help control material flow, preventing equipment damage or production bottlenecks.
c. Safety Monitoring: Point level indicators play a crucial role in safety systems by detecting high or low material levels that could lead to hazardous conditions, such as spills, leaks, or equipment failures.
d. Pump Protection: In pump systems, point level indicators prevent dry running by signaling when the liquid level is too low, protecting pumps from damage and extending their lifespan.
e. Overfill Prevention: In storage tanks, overfilling can result in environmental hazards, regulatory violations, and costly cleanup efforts. Point level indicators help prevent overfilling by signaling when the tank reaches its maximum capacity.
4. Benefits of Point Level Indicators
a. Reliability: Point level indicators offer reliable performance in detecting material presence or absence, ensuring accurate monitoring and control.
b. Versatility: With various types and configurations available, point level indicators can be adapted to suit different applications and materials, from liquids to solids.
c. Cost-Effectiveness: Compared to continuous level sensors, point level indicators are often more cost-effective, making them an economical choice for many industrial applications.
d. Easy Installation and Maintenance: Most point level indicators are straightforward to install and require minimal maintenance, reducing downtime and operational costs.
e. Safety: By providing timely alerts and preventing overfilling or emptying, point level indicators contribute to a safer working environment and help mitigate risks associated with material handling. Point level indicators are indispensable tools in industries where precise level measurement and control are essential. From inventory management to process control and safety monitoring, these devices offer reliable solutions for a wide range of applications. With their versatility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, point level indicators continue to play a vital role in optimizing operations, enhancing safety, and ensuring efficient resource management across industries. As technology advances, we can expect further innovations in point level indicator design and functionality, continuing to meet the evolving needs of modern industrial processes.

this will forever be the funniest moment in final fantasy xiv to me. you are a bright young officer of the globe-spanning evil empire. over the last few months you've watched the entire empire crumble from the edges inward after the former crown prince killed his father and seized the throne so he could redirect the state toward his own occult ends. you have witnessed unbelievable horrors. you had to kill your own family. finally, you get a chance to stand across from the man who caused all this and ask: why? what was it all for?
and he goes, uh, because i wanted to, dipshit? that's literally the only reason anyone does anything? fuck, you're stupid. if you don't believe me ask literally anyone else. or even like an alien. they'll tell you they do whatever they want for the specific reasons they made up. and like that's literally fine we're all just doing what we want for the cool made-up reasons we each picked.
then a teenager roasts him and he vanishes from history forever. you were probably the last of your countrymen to ever see or speak to him, the man who burned down everything you knew and loved for nothing at all. and like the second to last thing he ever said to you, right between imparting his existentialist philosophy and threatening to kill you, was that aliens are real. he didn't even pause, just said "go ask an alien" and went on with his speech like aliens existing was a baseline assumption everyone could agree on.

So I was on reddit and I saw someone saying this in response to somebody else saying there would be no character in asoiaf that wouldn't have killed aerys in jaime's place:
"Once the Rossart was dead, there was virtually no threat of wildfire nukes. There was practically no reason to kill him. He wanted to kill him."
And I just..get so frustated bc, let's put it this way: aerys is the king, that alone makes everyone around him be his yes man, add to this that the king is a mad fucker and will kill anyone if he so much as wakes up with a bad mood and you have the unlucky pleasure of passing by him in the morning, everyone around him will be even less inclined to so much as question him. This is a court that just watches as the king kills anyone, even high lords, in unnecessarily cruel ways just bc, as he killed one of his hand's bc he refused to carry out one of his orders or something, even the queen has no protection against the king. These are the ppl surrounding the king. So you're telling me that the city will be safe from going kaboom just bc you, the 17yo hostage guard, killed one of the king's MANY pyromancers and put the king in a cell? No one will see the mad fucker in a cell and get him out? Once out of his cell, the mad fucker totally will not turn and say "hey, this bitch put me, the king, in jail, that's treason, kill him" and they will just not do it? You're telling me the other pyromancers totally did not have a back up plan of "if they didn't hear from Rossart every 2 hours or something push the nuclear button"? No? Everything would be totally fine as long as you kill the ONE errand man but keep alive the man giving the orders everyone feels compelled to obey, be it by duty or fear, that's totally fine right? it'll work out, promise ✊

the thing about redditors is that they cannot read and they also refuse to engage with what this story is actually exploring like a good 90% of the time

What does Jazaiti social structure look like, irt mothers? Or like, what role do they play
Some things to be clear on beforehand:
Child: a young Jazait is considered functionally genderless and occupies this age-gender group until puberty. A child is classified as a man when testes descend (though occupies a secondary ‘young man’ space until full completion of puberty). A child becomes a woman at completion of baseline female puberty (having a fully developed mane and having undergone a growth spurt). Man: gender assignment for adult individuals with a penis and testes. They will be wed to mothers. Woman: gender assignment for adult individuals with vaginas who do NOT have active estrus cycles. Most will remain women throughout their lives and be unwed, some will become mothers. Mother: gender assignment for individuals with vaginas who DO have active estrus cycles (considered a mother regardless of if they have actually had children or not). A woman can become a mother and all mothers were once women, but these are distinct and separate gender roles. Elder mother: not a specific gender role- a post-fertile mother who no longer has an active estrus cycle. Clanmother: not a specific gender role- the current eldest mother in any given clan, who acts as its leader.
In typical elowey development, sexually mature males + nonreproductive females are minimally dimorphic, and sexual traits apart from genitalia are usually indistinct. Average size and build is approximately the same, females tend to have larger cuspids. The most strongly dimorphic feature is in scent, with most adult males and females having distinct smells.
Reproductive females on the other hand are more strongly dimorphic- there is typically an additional growth spurt and gain of body fat/muscle, voices deepen, manes grow longer and thicker, nipples grow longer and some breast tissue is accumulated (though not as much as humans, elowey only have fully developed breasts during lactation). Their scent is also distinct from males and nonreproductive females.
All elowey undergo puberty that results in an individual becoming sexually mature and physiologically capable of reproduction, but the estrus/ovulation cycles of females are hormonally suppressed by proximity of a reproductive female. A female’s estrus cycle will initiate on its own with time in the absence of a reproductive female, and will be directly initiated through sexual activity. Non-reproductive females will typically have a sex drive equivalent to a reproductive female when not in estrus- sex may be desirable in being physically pleasurable or as an act of affection, but baseline libido levels are low. Hormonal suppression cannot completely preclude the initiation of estrus (though will typically cause it to be irregular) and would be supplemented by behavioral suppression (the socially dominant reproductive female preventing others from mating) in pre-behaviorally modern ancestors. Instinct towards behavioral suppression often translates into social control of female sexual activity in elowey cultures, but this is not universal.
(^^The baseline physiology described here is universal to elowey, not just Jazait)
---
Jazait culture is mother-matriarchal, in which mothers are socially and politically dominant to men and women. All women have the potential to become mothers, but most never will, and only inherit the dominant social status upon this occurring. Being a mother is reckoned as a blessed, elevated state and one that is purely natural to occupy positions of strength and leadership, with related men and women being better suited for supporting roles and exacting her will.
Mothers have greater religious status in society and are deemed to be beings made in the sun-mother's image, who is the creator god in Jazaiti religious belief (accompanied by one other (non-creator) god, the moon-father(s), understood as one and three beings and her husband(s)). Their fertility is reckoned as being a gift from the sun-mother. This blessing extends beyond procreation and allows for mothers to work through the sun-mother to encourage needed growth and new life (in fish stocks, livestock, agriculture and forage, singing down the rains, etc). Jazaiti religion (and culture itself) is heavily decentralized, and a clanmother will be the spiritual leader of any given family group and will impart accumulated religious knowledge of generations onto her descendants.
The use of scent glands has strong applications in Jazait culture, particularly in the case of a clanmother. A clanmother will undergo a yearly ceremony in which she journeys around the limits of her clan's land and applies wrist gland secretions along the way, enforcing a protective ring that dissuades the entrance of evil spirits and forms a metaphysical boundary, a sense of 'here' and 'there'. She will also mark the faces of newborn children as means of fully initiating and accepting them into the clan. In any case where a person, place, or thing needs spiritual enforcement as belonging to a clan, this task falls to the clanmother. Any mother's scent is regarded as having properties of blessing, particularly in association with fertility.
A mother's status will generally be passed onto her eldest daughter upon completing rites of initiation, who will be wed and move out of her mothers household (thus eliminating hormonal suppression and allowing for sexual contact to more rapidly initiate estrus). The clanmother has the ultimate say in whether other daughters can become mothers, and will make this decision on a variety of factors- reading the will of the sun-mother, their own opinion on the daughter's suitability for the role, political strategy and necessity (or lack thereof) for additional marriages with another clan, and material concerns of territory and sustenance (a clan can only sustain so many families, with only the wealthiest and most powerful clans having many mothers therein).
This society has a clan system wherein the eldest mother (usually past reproductive age) has the primary and final say in the affairs of her clan. Her husbands will be considered clanfathers and have an elevated rank among other men in the clan. Clans follow a rank hierarchy of clanmother > mothers > clanfathers > husbands > women and unwed men > children.
The number of men is highly disproportionate to the number of mothers, and as such most marriages are polyandrous. One’s number of husbands is usually directly proportionate to one’s wealth, both in indicating access to resources to sustain a large family, and in practical measure, as a dowry is paid to the mother of each male spouse. Husbands will be absorbed into their wife’s clan (though this establishes ties and responsibilities with his former clan), and kinship is matrilineal and makes no distinction between children of different husbands.
A child’s biological father will often be circumstantially known, but this direct relation is not of great importance as each husband is considered a father to all associated children. Due to potential ambiguity in fatherhood and purely matrilineal descent, extramaritial affairs are not of substantial consequence and resulting children will not be considered bastards, but this this is generally frowned upon as lowly and undignified behavior.
Clans are typically very large and spread widely with clan-affiliated families occupying vast territories. Different mothers in the same clan do not directly interact on a regular basis and typically only assemble for festivities and rites, or to discuss matters of utmost importance in person. They will instead use their husbands as messengers (often one husband ends up specifically designated as a messenger, which is a loosely esteemed status as this will often indicate the greatest trust and affection).
The Jazait have no specified warrior culture (this doesn’t mean conflict is nonexistant, just that there is no strongly developed traditions surrounding it). Most women and men will have learned basic self defense and will know how to handle a spear or knife, and will fill roles of warriors in times of conflict. Mothers tend to be protected from directly engaging in combat, and will act as commanders and mediators in all but the most dire of circumstances. Mothers entering combat is a common narrative motif in Jazait storytelling and folklore, used to demonstrate the profound gravity of a conflict.
All members of a family/clan participate in childcare, with married men and mothers being the primary childrearers and the most involved in the domestic sphere and near the home (producing textiles, cooking, farm labor, etc). Women perform the majority of non-domestic labor (in traditional subsistence, this will be fishing, leviathan hunting, foraging, and some herding). This is not itself a gendered role and is partially just pragmatism- most women will go their entire lives without becoming mothers (and will thus be unmarried), while most men will be married, so there’s a greater proportion of women available for tasks away from the home.
The sexual behavior of men and especially women is strongly controlled. Men are expected to solely engage in potentially reproductive behavior with mothers, and women are expected to engage in no sexual behavior with men whatsoever (unless in the context of becoming mothers, as dictated and approved by their own). A woman who becomes pregnant without her mother's consent will technically become a mother (as this act will have been in the context of the estrus cycle self-initiating via sexual contact, and the resulting physical changes will occur), but this is deeply shameful and the theft of a great gift, and will typically result in her exile from the clan, and she and her children being clanless (conceptually close to ‘bastard’ status). This status is effectively permanent and may be socially and materially devastating, depriving the mother and child from their support network and the core unit of Jazait society. The only potential salvation occurs if the father’s clanmother makes the decision to accept the clanless child (and sometimes mother) into her own clan.
Clanless Jazait often form their own communities as means for mutual support, or may be strongly driven to turn to finding work amid other peoples as means of supporting themselves and their children. A significant proportion of Jazait who participate in Imperial Wardi society are clanless, and most established Jazait diasporic communities are at least partly Wardinized- no communities at large are fully assimilated into Wardi culture, but most participate in Wardi-esque marriage patterns as a means of sustaining their communities in this different cultural/subsistence context, and many have adopted syncretic Jazaiti-Wardi faith systems.
There is no direct stigma towards homosexual behavior, though it will be seen as more natural between women (having no other sexual outlets) than between men. While homosexual behavior itself is unstigmatized, men and mothers are fully expected to play reproductive roles in a marriage, and women tasked with becoming mothers (which will involve sexual activity with a man via their first husband) have little say in the matter.
The conceptualization of gender is a strict trinary, with no specified roles that divergence from the man - woman - mother construction. The status of intersex people depends on their variation- many intersex traits will go unnoticed or interpreted as infertility (especially due to minimal sexual dimorphism between males and non-reproductive females), and others tend to be interpreted as negative physical abnormalities.

"[Elizabeth Woodville's] piety as queen seems to have been broadly conventional for a fifteenth-century royal, encompassing pilgrimages, membership of various fraternities, a particular devotion to her name saint, notable generosity to the Carthusians, and the foundation of a chantry at Westminster after her son was born there. [...] On other occasions she supported planned religious foundations in London, […] made generous gifts to Eton College, and petitioned the pope to extend the circumstances in which indulgences could be acquired by observing the feast of the Visitation. [...] One possible indicator of a more personal, and more sophisticated, thread in her piety is a book of Hours of the Guardian Angel which Sutton and Visser-Fuchs have argued was commissioned for her, very possibly at her request."
— J.L. Laynesmith, "Elizabeth Woodville: The Knight's Widow", Later Plantagenet and Wars of the Roses Consorts: Power, Influence, Dynasty
#historicwomendaily#elizabeth woodville#my post#friendly reminder that there's nothing indicating that Elizabeth was exceptionally pious or that her piety was 'beyond purely conventional'#(something first claimed by Anne Crawford who simultaneously claimed that Elizabeth was 'grasping and totally lacking in scruple' so...)#EW's piety as queen may have stood out compared to former 15th century predecessors and definitely stood out compared to her husband#but her actions in themselves were not especially novel or 'beyond normal' and by themselves don't indicate unusual piety on her part#As Laynesmith's more recent research observes they seem to have been 'broadly conventional'#A conclusion arrived at Derek Neal as well who also points out that in general queens and elite noblewomen simply had wider means#of 'visible material expression of [their] personal devotion' - and also emphasizes how we should look at their wider circumstances#to understand their actions (eg: the death of Elizabeth's son George in 1479 as a motivating factor)#It's nice that we know a bit about Elizabeth's more personal piety - for eg she seems to have developed an attachment to Westminster Abbey#It's possible her (outward) piety increased across her queenship - she undertook most of her religious projects in later years#But again - none of them indicate the *level* of her piety (ie: they don't indicate that she was beyond conventionally pious)#By 1475 it seems that contemporaries identified Cecily Neville as the most personally devout from the Yorkist family#(though Elizabeth and even Cecily's sons were far greater patrons)#I think people also assume this because of her retirement to Westminster post 1485#which doesn't work because 1) we don't actually know when she retired? as Laynesmith says there is no actual evidence for the traditional#date of 12 February 1487#2) she had very secular reasons for retiring (grief over the death of her children? her lack of dower lands or estates which most other#widows had? her options were very limited; choosing to reside in the abbey is not particularly surprising. it's a massive and unneeded jump#to claim that it was motivated solely by piety (especially because it wasn't a complete 'retirement' in the way people assume it was)#I think historians have a habit of using her piety as a GOTCHA!' point against her vilification - which is a flawed and stupid argument#Elizabeth could be the most pious individual in the world and still be the pantomime villain Ricardians/Yorkists claim she was#They're not mutually exclusive; this line of thinking is useless#I think this also stems from the fact that we simply know very little about Elizabeth as an individual (ie: her hobbies/interests)#certainly far less than we do for other prominent women Margaret of Anjou; Elizabeth of York;; Cecily Neville or Margaret Beaufort#and I think rather than emphasizing that gap of knowledge her historians merely try to fill it up with 'she was pious!'#which is ... an incredibly lackluster take. I think it's better to just acknowledge that we don't know much about this historical figure#ie: I do wish that her piety and patronage was emphasized more yes. but it shouldn't flip too far to the other side either.

The funniest thing about taking the i am hero terminal at its word and interpreting the security officer as the ethernal champion is that between durandal and him durandal is the one who is just a guy. Yes he is an insanely powerful ai who has a good shot at becoming god by surviving the end of the world but that hasn't happened yet. And on the other side you have a constantly reincarnating force of violence and change, the anthropomorphic representation of the pre modern concept of heroism. Who is in a mortal shell, yes (as mortal as battleroids get anyway) but still

it's not even that "sometimes the curtains aren't just blue, sometimes they represent something" it's that "the curtains are never just blue"
#it does technically depend to what level you are investigating the meanings of things but the take is basically#0th layer: the curtains are just blue. they have no meaning it is an arbitrary description with no bearing on anything else.#0.5th layer: maybe the curtains AREN'T just blue. maybe this can tell us the character's favourite colour is blue!#1st layer: oftentimes the curtains AREN'T just blue. the colour blue commonly or textually is a symbol of X and the author specifically -#-uses the blue curtains to indicate Y about the character.#^ Frequently this is where the discussion leads. talking about how some people refuse to engage with metaphor or read into anything that's#not told directly to you. and this is useful. reading into stuff can reveal that the author is hiding metaphors all over the place etc BUT#2nd layer: The curtains are NEVER just blue. Even if the author does not intend for the blue curtains to tell us anything deeper than -#giving a description of the curtains. the author grew up in a specific time and specific society and was effected by these things.#maybe we can infer that the author thinks that having a room with a window is standard. that curtains are normal. -#Maybe the author associates the colour blue with specific type of people. (for example: blue has a gendered association. if the author#describes a boys room as having blue curtains then this decision was impacted by the authors upbringing and environment.)#whether consciously or not everything means something and everybody has a set of things that they believe are normal and meaningless -#which are ENTIRELY informed by their culture. A white american reads a book. it is not clear where the book takes place. the white#american assumes it takes place in a city in the USA and that the main character is white. In the first chapter the main -#character eats ramen. sushi. tempura. and drinks sake. the white american does not go ''this doesn't indicate"#nor do they go ''this is a metaphor intended by the author''. they simply think ''ahh this book is maybe not about a white american''#Everything means something. if i write down ''MC walked to the shop to get groceries'' this is so normal for me i wouldnt think about it#but for a person living in Austin Texas. not so much! they would know at the very least the character is probably not living in Austin TX#anyways god bless anyone who reads this ramble but my point is that#the curtains are never blue#maybe the author think boys get blue curtains#maybe the author thinks blue is the default curtain colour (maybe the author had them growing up)#maybe the author thinks every window has curtains. maybe the author thinks every room has windows#maybe the author has tritanopia and has a whole different experience of the colour blue#the curtains are never Just blue#you can analyse any media no matter what. nothing has no meaning

beginning to be slightly worried that i irrevocably fucked up neve's personal quest.... i didnt realize the treviso vs minrathous decision point would trigger immediately after recruiting davrin, so i hadn't yet done her 'walk around chatting' quest and then it disappeared when she left the party & i haven't gotten any more personal quests from her since she's been back (up to the siege on weisshaupt) but idk to what extent that's due to being hardened or due to me not doing the first one
and i do love consequences and i do love this strained relationship that's developed between her & cyrus, because even though the circumstances were outside of his control his decision still hurt her and countless others, but i also. love her. and do not want to miss out on her content...............................................................

this post is fearmongering. the results of this study are concerning and should definitely be a matter of public discussion, but this is certainly not the conclusion the researchers came to.
the point of the study was to assess the risks of exposure to toxic metals- something one of the co-authors notes are “ubiquitous” fwiw- via menstrual products. Their research confirmed that these metals are indeed present in tampons, but no further conclusions are drawn. it is possible the metal entered into the cotton from the soil, which is a well-known phenomenon; cotton is so good at lifting heavy metals that it has actually been suggested as a part of the solution for revitalizing polluted ground.
the authors conclude with an acknowledgement that the study should be repeated- their sample size was 60 tampons- and a suggestion that further testing ought to be done to indicate whether or not these metals can even leech out of the tampon in the first place, let alone whether or not such leeching could occur at levels deleterious to human health.
there is, in fact, a body of research- too small, for sure, but much larger than this single study- indicating that long-term proper tampon use has no observable negative impact on health. i am grateful and thrilled that more research is being done and i hope that this study is the first of many on this line of questioning, but i am really frustrated at this post and the response it got.
obviously, if this study alters your approach to menstrual health, more power to you. consumers should be informed-risk-takers, and menstrual health is double-obviously a very personal choice. but it definitely wasn't the researchers concluding that you ought to “avoid using tampons at all cost," only this tumblr user did. the lead author of the paper, in fact, specifically says that she hopes people do NOT panic about the results.
(the notes of the post were disappointing. people affirming that they knew they were right to be suspicious of tampons all along, or even recommending alternatives that actually have very little to no research regarding the safety of long-term use, etc. it’s a different conversation, but categorical distrust of tampons is old-school misogyny. you certainly shouldn't wear them if you don’t want to, but there is nothing inherently scary or wrong about them, and people who prefer them are not being reckless or crass.)
((if you're really worried about exposure to heavy metals, you may want to turn a critical eye to fast fashion, as an aside))

I’m genuinely surprised that people are getting this riled up over Cait x Maddie. I mean I think it’s pretty obvious that this is just Cait trying to cope aka making another bad decision to do so.
I mean…just look at how differently their scenes are depicted…and it’s done beautifully too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caitlyn and Maddie are never shot or positioned level to the camera indicating how they’re on different emotional pages in contrast to Cait and Vi who are almost nearly always shot level to each other.
Caitlyn doesn’t make eye-contact with Maddie. In most of their interactions, her back is turned to her. I mean compare that to the number of face-to face interactions that we have with Vi and Caitlyn where their noses are pretty much inches away from each other.
It’s actually pretty laughable how insane the contrast is. I mean there’s plenty more screenshots of Vi and Caitlyn’s intimacy versus how Caitlyn seems so disconnected from Maddie. I don’t think the show could’ve made it more obvious that Caitlyn isn’t interested in Maddie and she’s just simply using her to fill up the void that Vi left.
It does make you feel awful for Maddie as she is the one who initiates most of their interactions and physical touches whilst Caitlyn isn’t even looking at her. I am not sure why twitter is hating on her so much when she genuinely seems to care for Caitlyn as a person too. If we should be feeling bad for anyone here then it’s her. She’s in love with someone who doesn’t love her back.
Maddie has the death card written over her but I hope she and Caitlyn get to talk it out. And honestly I hope Caitlyn apologises for pretty much using her romantic advances as a rebound.
ACT 3 SPOILERS BELOW!
If you’re reading this after watching Act 3, I may have gotten a few points off (about haha sympathising with Maddie) but my main point still stands: there’s no need to worry about a rebound. (I mean Vi literally said “idfc” jdjdjjddk)

Steve is rifling through Eddie's collection of magazines, while he's waiting on Eddie and Wayne to get done fixing the dryer(Wayne's fixing, Eddie's getting in the way it sounds like), when he realizes how insane the assortment is; Heavy Metal, Car and Driver, Rolling Stone, National Geographic, OMNI, MAD, even a copy of Good Housekeeping. It's all so Eddie though, to have so many varying interests. He's a little jealous, if he's being honest with himself.
"You have a lot of stuff," he comments when Eddie comes back, closing the copy of Rolling Stone.
"Oh, yeah, sorry, let me just..." He starts kicking a pile of clothes under the bed.
Steve huffs a laugh. "No, I meant you have a lot of interests." He waves the magazine. "Hobbies and stuff."
Eddie nods, continues to shove piles of stuff under the bed anyway. "I guess, yeah. I tend to jump from thing to thing though. Last night it was painting miniatures, tonight it could be writing a song. I don't really get a say in which one. Oh, nice, I've been looking for this," he says, holding up a random T-shirt.
He watches Eddie get distracted by the new discovery and leave the rest of the pile where it's at, smiling to himself as Eddie goes on a tangent about merch vendors at concerts being the real enemy of the people.
"How do you know what you like?" Steve inadvertently blurts out during a gap in Eddie's tale.
He turns toward Steve. "What do you mean?"
What does he mean? "I guess... It's just, I like cars and sports and girls. That's, like, kind of it. And since I started being friends with Henderson and Robin and you I've figured out that's, like, the most basic shit a guy could be into. Level One Dude Interests. So, I guess I just want to know how you find other things? And how will I know if I'm interested?"
"Hmm." He frowns softly. "I've never had to think about it before. I kinda just...fall into things. I like it or I don't."
"Okay, but what's it feel like?"
Eddie puts the shirt down, forgotten again in a moment, and sits. "What does it feel like when you think about cars and sports and girls?"
Steve really thinks about it. Nothing is as consuming as when he was younger, but he does remember a vague sense of excitement, a feeling of connection with the people he surrounded himself with, who shared his interests. But he hasn't felt that in a while. Maybe he wasn't as into those things as he thought, was only into the connection.
"You're having very deep thoughts over there," Eddie points out with a grin.
"Shut up." He grins back. "I think maybe I don't actually know what it feels like to like something because I like it, not just because everyone else likes it. You know what I mean?"
"Well, yes but no." He waves both hands to indicate his person and also the chaos of the room around them.
"See? This is why I'm asking you. If anyone can help me figure out what I like it's you."
Eddie slaps both hands together and rubs. "A project! Excellent idea!"
Wasn't his idea but sure.
"First we have to get you exposure to new things. Movies, TV, music, culture. Then we'll rate how you feel about each demographic. Your music taste is already improving so that's good. Movies, I'm thinking 12 Angry Men to start. Food? Authentic Mexican. We're gonna get you excited about shit!" He seems excited enough for the both of them, which is great. "Excitement is key! You want enthusiasm, yearning even. Your interests should consume your every waking thought. When I'm consuming a new hobby, I'm focused like a shark, I'm obsessed. I go to bed thinking about it and wake up thinking about it. Excited to get back to whatever it is. I wanna talk about it, share it with other people. Complete and total immersion. You wanna marry that interest. You know what I mean?"
Steve blinks at him, stunned into silence. Eddie's just described how Steve feels about him...
Oh.
Oh.
