i get why it’s commonplace to think katsuki needs a six year slow burn lead up to a stubborn confession but remembering that his mother hit on his father aggressively until he went out with her and that he clearly gets his personality from her is perfect because i think the idea of katsuki shoving his hands in his pockets and grumbling “go out with me” until you say yes is so funny

what do you think of Nie Huaisang? The chessmaster who looks like a innocent baby outsie but who is a feral and manipulative gremlins inside.

I really enjoy Nie Huaisang! though honestly for slightly different reasons I think. I really love good siblings dynamics, so I really adore the Nie brothers, and how that relationship informs Nie Huaisang's character. I love that he gets to be lazy and spoiled, and that even with his brother harping about his sabre training he's clearly gotten the time and resources necessary to become proficient in the arts instead. He's loved! He knows he's loved, because he feels free to be a total brat about it! He is baby brother shaped and I love that for him!

I also love how much he contrasts some of the other siblings relationships -- how we see how Jin Guangyao and Jin Zixuan are treated as half-brothers, or even how Wei Wuxian is treated in lights of the rumour that he may be Jiang Fengmian's bastard. It threatens family units and bloodlines! Meanwhile you have Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue as known half-brothers who are clearly really close to each other, to that point that Nie Mingjue wants Nie Huaisang to be prepared to take over for him as sect leader when he inevitably qi deviates. Nie Mingjue goes to such lengths to prepare Nie Huaisang while also trying to shelter him from the truth... man I love thinking about how much learning all about the sabre spirits must have gutted Nie Huaisang after Nie Mingjue's death.

Nie Mingjue seems to be at least partially raising Nie Huaisang after the death of their parents, and even that is jut really cool because that adds a whole other layers to their dynamic. Nie Huaisang has to deal with the loss of parents (at least one of which was likely growing violent close to his death, considering it was by qi deviation) and now his relationship with his brother has forcefully changed since he's now sect leader and caregiver, plus the eventual degeneration of Nie Mingjue's mental health / qi stability. So he's relieving his father's death all over again through his older brother who's growing more and more tempermental and violent, through no fault of his own (thanks jgy). It's all a tragic mess and I love it.

I love how Nie Huaisang has clearly grown up learning to deal with all that, and how it's probably played a significant part in his personality, and I love how much everything we know about him changes after Nie Mingjue's death. He was probably always a fairly conniving person (clever enough to dodge sabre training if not academically astute) but you see that deep love for his brother come out after his death and in just how hard he's willing to work in order to avenge him.

This is very rambling, sorry that it's not more coherent thoughts, but yes! I love Nie Huaisang! I love the sibling bond and the tragedy! Also he's just a blast in the study arc because he gets to be such a frivolous, goofy sort of character, he's fun!

And finally, @ckret2, whose writing is sublimely in-character and just a delight to read - they're a great artist, as well! I simply Could Not resist drawing their Bill in this ridiculous incredible and very fashionable pink feather dress, even though he only briefly wears it in their fic, so I also did a little bonus doodle of him in his standard hoodie to make up for it. XD (Also, as far as I'm concerned, Bill and Mabel were both correct in that lime green accessories make the dress Much Better.)

It would be interesting if humans had an affinity for metal in Rose Knights since roughly 2.5% of our body mass is metal, and if you think about it we use a lot of metal.

Lapis would definitely try to claim she has a special affinity for metal if anybody asked her "why metal and not wood". It's the story she'd stick with when things are safe and comfortable, anyway! XD
