NATIONAL KETCHUP DAY
June 5 is National Ketchup Day on the National Day Calendar and we are celebrating the most popular condiment in the U.S. Let's dip right into the origins and history of this food condiment day and see why this red sauce is a staple on our tables across the nation.
#NATIONALKETCHUPDAY
Ketchup comes from the Chinese word kê-tsiap that dates back to 300 BC in China. Kê-tsiap was a sauce made from fermented fish, consisting of anchovies or oysters, mushrooms, and walnuts. The sauce became very popular with the British during the 17th century when British sailors came across a local fish sauce while in Southeast Asia. In fact, British sailors were known to add the fish sauce to their crackers and meats.
The sauce was such a novelty for British sailors, it was bottled and brought onboard ships to add flavor to their crackers and meats. Once the sailors reached England, they tried to replicate the recipe, adopting the word catsup in the process.
In 1812, American scientist named James Mease documented the first tomato-based ketchup recipe. His documentation marked the first official ketchup recipe that contained tomatoes, sugar, spices, and vinegar. The same base recipe we know and love today.
Interesting Tomato Facts
Before 1812, tomatoes were once considered poisonous because of their classification with the nightshade family or Solanaceae. Plants under the nightshade family tend to contain high doses of harmful toxins. However, it was later discovered tomatoes lack these toxins and edible.
Ketchup was originally used for medicinal purposes before the 19th century. In fact, many people used tomatoes to treat indigestion and diarrhea.
The Great Ketchup Controversy was a real controversy about proper ingredients to make ketchup. Some people thought a sweeter ketchup should be acceptable, while others thought a spicer one was would be better.
Nearly 97 percent of Americans have ketchup in their homes. In fact, ketchup is so popular Astronauts use ketchup as a condiment in space.
The word ketchup became popular during the 19th century and has been the standard name of the condiment since. However, some areas in the southern part of the U.S. still use the word catsup.
Contemporary tomato ketchup became wildly popular around 1876, when H.J. Heinz introduced his version of the ketchup recipe with a thick consistency and sweet flavor. Heinz spent many hours experimenting with the perfect ketchup recipe. Eventually, he found a way to produce ketchup using quality ingredients like sugar and vinegar to help provide a longer shelf life for consumers. The recipe used in 1876 is the same standard recipe we love and enjoy today.
DIP YOUR OWN CELEBRATION
Visit the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, PA to learn about the history of the Heinz company, including artifacts and memorabilia.
Try incorporating ketchup into some of your dishes, such as a meatloaf glaze or an ingredient for homemade cocktail sauce.
Ketchup art is a real thing. Create a portrait with ketchup before you eat your fries or collect ketchup art.

Ask and ye shall receive!
Polaris is Starscream's sparkling in my TF: Aftermath Lost Light campaign.
He's basically an excuse to show what how I believe sparklings grow and develop, as well as introducing Seeker culture to my players (cause I love all my little headcanons for that)
The way I imagine seeker sparklings develop is similar to birds, where they go through a "fledgling" phase before they develop all their colors and armor.
They start off small, like, fit in the palm of Starscream's hand small. Hold them gently like a burger. They gradually grow, being born with 9-ish? main armor plates that grow soon after birth. These plates develop into intricate armor and even their wings as they grow.
In my campaign, it takes 1000 years for a cybertronian to mature, Polaris is 100, so he's only about a 1 year old.
And Starscream would *kill* for his baby.
He's the most protective parent. He had to pop the poor thing out alone, by himself, stranded on Earth with no clue where the Sire or his friends where (they thought he was dead due to past campaign stuff) and learned to grow some self-confidence to care for his bitlet.
His parenting style is protective but also kind of "fuck around and find out"
he let's his baby explore, and get hurt at their own curiosity, but not too much. But if there's somebody who he knows might hurt his sparkling? He'll death-glare you till the sun explodes and if you come close and try to do anything with his baby he'd rip you limb from limb without a second thought.
He's very protective over who he lets hold his baby. At the start when my group finds him, he'll only trust my NPC Atlas (an OC who's known Starscream for a while) and the sire, Megatron.
Megs in this universe is not abusive to Starscream, but was in the past (cause of his Unicron Lean addiction) and Starscream is healing from that trauma, so their relationship is strained but he's healing not just for himself but his sparkling now too.
It's a very self-indulgent side-plot for my players. But I'm a self-indulgent fuck and Starscream literally is just me soooo
Yeah that's Polaris!
Once Starscream trusts the Lost Light with his bitlet, almost everyone will be taking turns babysitting, playing and coddling the little thing. Polaris will have no shortage of love, protection, affection and care with the crew and his momma who loves him more than life itself <3
Aw, Polaris is the perfect candidate if you wanna show off your seeker sparkling HCs! How cute!
"Hold them gently like a burger." I'm plagued with the thought of Starscream holding his little bab so gently! HELP!
YES! PROTECTIVE DADSCREAM IS WHAT I LIVE FOR! I EAT THAT SHIT FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND DINNER!
Atlas sounds like a pretty cool OC, too! I'm not a fan of MegaStar, but your take sounds interesting!
Aw, and little Polaris aboard the Lost Light is just what the crew needs, a bouncing bitlet of joy!
Thank you for sharing your lore with me! It's so awesome! What you have going on is very intriguing, and I would always love to hear more from you about it! So, don't be shy to reach out!

𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. @demcnsinmymind sent;; " out of all the places I could be, why would I want to be here with you?"
Jesse had seen a good handful of scary movies. When she began to move around, spending evenings in ratty hotels, she would click around until something caught her eye. Poltergeist had been a good one. But, just like everything, nothing can truly prepare you for the real thing.
Collingwood… They didn’t have much to go on. A report had been filed back in 2003 but had no further leads. Maybe most of the pages got lost during the lockdown. The hospital carried an ominous loom. Some dark history that left its mark. Stained into every tile and floorboard. The FBC needed more information about this place—along with Lance Preston. He’s briefly mentioned on the censored pages, along with a small group of people, who suddenly went missing. Only for him to appear thirteen years later.
Now, this was a ghost story. This was the real thing.
But you can’t confidently say ‘This house is clean’ and be done with it. In the real world, it isn’t that easy. You don’t always come out in one piece, and, if Lance’s medical history had any truth, Jesse doubts he did.
“I mean, you’re pretty safe here.” Faden gives a quick, small smile closing the door behind herself, excusing the previous interviewer. Even before she entered the room, Polaris had flared up. Signals of empathy, but also caution, tickle the front of her mind. She’s quick to switch places with the previous coworker—something is telling her that maybe she should take this one. Jesse casually approaches the table, taking a seat across from Lance. The Service Weapon is holstered to her hip, as usual. She feels safe but not fully confident about what she’s feeling. What Polaris is trying to tell her. “Plus, this is the capital of weird shit. If you tell me, ‘Hey, I had a burger with bigfoot’ I would be jealous.” Maybe that wasn’t the best opener, but, hey, she tried. The guy wasn't in trouble with the bureau or anything. Hopefully, she’s somewhat convincing. May as well start off on a lighter note before they dive into something heavier, anyway. Did they even have a file on Sasquatch? She’ll have to dig—that would be a great lunch read.
Jesse clears her throat lightly and settles into her seat. Her smile is a bit less playful now.
“Which is kind of why you’re here. We need to talk.”

Hi I’m back just because I’m curious what’s your fanon Octavio’s family like? :3
"I... don't remember much of my dad ?"
*remember VIVIDLY*
I am going to presume you were talking about his biological parents-
I feel like his family wasn't the best, I mean royalty sucks ? Tho he kinda didn't realise how shit it was until he spoke to Craig about it, especially when the cuttlefish told him how he treated his own family (Callie, Marie, their parents..). He's the incarnation of that Bob's Burger's skit going "I just realised something... I had a bad childhood".
Pretty... standard scenario ngl, but I love a character that get to still do his own shit after that.
I somehow see his dad as an intimidating king and a strict neglecting father. He's respected and powerful, and my man DJ gotta take his "scary" genes from somewhere lmao. We don't know much of him, even DJ doesn't know much even if he's his son, but Craig did see him once or twice irl and remember how intimidating he looked, and how Octavio talked about him when he was a prince.
His mother tho did took care of him, but she was still strict. I don't have much ideas about her, but I do imagine thar she could be the one that introduced him to music ! Which became his special interest-
I never thought about the fact that he could have sibling ! Craig seems to be one to be the sibling type, like I feel like he's not the oldest, but one of the older of his siblings
Also this is the smolest Cuttletavio I drew I can't
"Tho I think my mother was sweet !"

Sergio had moved to the Polaris Galaxy after enough shady deals gone wrong led him to hightailing out of Solana. He'd moved after the Nether incident, so details weren't all that clear for him. He'd just seen a few wanted posters of some infamous criminals, but didn't pay much attention to them. So long as he kept his wits sharp and his Omniblaster close by, he didn't need to worry.
In order to make sure some of the heat died down, he tried going legit in Polaris, focusing on delivering food and other items to customers who used an app to order stuff remotely. He'd lived the first few weeks in Polaris without incident.
One day, he brought a hot bag of food to the residence of someone named "Vendra." He had no idea who she was, but so long as she tipped, the tabby couldn't have cared less.
Or so he thought.
They had ran out of food, again. Not the best thing to happen but, hey, it was a easy problem to solve. And seeing as the smaller Nether was the one who went to the store last time to buy food, it was now Neftin’s turn to do the grocery shopping for them. Though as she was at home in their dinky little apartment on Igliak, waiting for him to come back, telling herself over and over again that it wouldn’t take that long for him to return, hunger suddenly struck her. And it was bad. It got harder to focus on work, or anything really. Not just that, but she was running low on energy, which was another bad thing. So she did the only thing she could do to sooth it and get her energy level up again until her brother came back; ordering food from a app she recently downloaded.
“Stupid hunger ruining my working schedule...” Vendra grumbled to herself after ordering some cheese burger with fries and drink on the side. It was beyond annoying, but she only had herself to blame for causing this in the first place. She should have gone out and grabbed something to eat before she got herself sucked into work.
So there she was now, waiting what felt like hours for her food on the couch, until she finally heard a knock on the metal doors. Food had arrived and she was happy for it. Though she wasn’t too sure how the guy that came with would upon seeing her once the metal doors slid open to reveal her, a former infamous ciminal that was behind the Nether incident.
Maybe it wouldn’t be that bad?

The Best Drinking Glasses
When it comes to glassware, the sexier vessels — a coupe, a flute, a wineglass — seem to get all the glory. But a simple glass cup (which can be just as appropriate for juice, wine, iced coffee, or yes, a G&T) gets used more than any of those options — and is just as worthy of praise. Whether you’re in the market for a basic, stackable matching set or for something bolder to spruce up your dinner table, the choices are many. To help you in your search, we asked some of our favorite restaurant, beverage, and interior-design experts how they take their H2O (and more). Below, our 19 panelists recommend their favorite water glasses, including a few restaurant-grade styles sold in bulk (that you may want to go in on with a friend or two since you probably won’t need all 72). To make it easier to find what you’re looking for, we’ve categorized their picks by style and size.
Duralex’s Picardie glasses are a favorite among our panelists. It’s easy to see why: They are available in assorted sizes, so you’ll always have the right one at hand if someone wants water, juice, or a stiffer drink. More important, as Tracie Battle, a senior designer at online interior-design service Havenly, says, their “classic look will never go out of style.” She explains that they are made of thicker tempered glass, which “offers more durability and a more expensive look.” Hudson Wilder founder Conway Liao and author (and former Lucky Peach executive editor) Rachel Khong also swear by these glasses, with Khong saying that her set is “still going strong after many many years.” This 18-piece set includes three sizes and six glasses in each size.
Battle also recommends Libbey’s Polaris glasses for their “super-unique shape,” which has a rounded, weighted base that feels hefty while still being sleek. This set comes with eight drinking glasses and eight smaller rocks glasses, offering the best “bang for your buck, at just over $2 per glass,” she says. They’re BPA-free and dishwasher-safe, too.
This set of Dailyware Bodega glasses from Bormiolo Rocco — which includes eight shorter double wall insulated mug and eight taller highball glasses — is interior designer Katrina Hernandez’s choice. She uses the glasses in both her house in the country and her Brooklyn apartment. “They’re perfect for water or a cocktail. It’s a set of two sizes, but both are relatively shorter and more modern,” she says. Hernandez adds that they’re thin, but not “scary thin where you feel they could break in your hand at any moment.” She also appreciates the rounded edge of the lip as well. The Bodega is also a favorite style of Julie Mulligan, the owner and designer of cocktail lounge and restaurant Lot 15, because it’s “versatile and low maintenance but still chic.” She says that it’s “great for all kinds of home drinking and serving” and can even be used for displaying flowers. “They have a great smooth lip to drink from and the price is just right,” she adds.
If cabinet space is limited, shorter glasses may be the way to go. Both Liao and Amanda Spina, the general manager of Williamsburg’s Four Horsemen restaurant and Nightmoves bar, swear by these shorter, stackable glasses by Japanese company Toyo-Sasaki. “I always want precious, delicate, thin baking glassware at the restaurant, but it’s got to be strong enough to fall onto a rubber mat and not break,” says Spina. “And it must be stackable.” These glasses, which are each about four-inches high, tick all those boxes. “They’re a little more unique and contemporary than the ubiquitous Duralex,” she adds, “but just as practical.” Liao agrees, noting their stackable design makes these “perfect for New York apartments.”
Amazon sells Bormioli Rocco’s 12-ounce Bodega tumbler — which is roughly the same height as the Bodega double old-fashioned glass in the brand’s assorted set above — on its own in a 12-pack.
The CB2 Marta glass has a similar feel as the smaller Bodega glasses above, and comes recommended by Athena Calderone, the founder of lifestyle blog Eye Swoon. She likes that they have “clean, straight lines” and are “made of ultra-thin glass.” She also says that “the price is deceiving — they look and feel far more expensive than they really are,” adding that they’re “definitely a crazy-good bang for your buck.” Not to mention:“They look as good sitting around on the table as they do on open shelving, which is helpful because that’s what I have at home,” Calderone says. Interior and event designer Ken Fulk is also a fan.
Mullligan’s go-to “for something clean and classic,” are these tumblers from Duralex. She likes that these glasses are stackable, but more importantly, that “they’ve withstood the test of time in my home, which is no easy feat.” Made in France of tempered glass, they’re also dishwasher-, microwave-, and freezer-safe.
According to Mulligan, Libbey is “an industry standard for style and wearability in the design world.” The petite Esquire side glass water bottle is one of her all-time favorites, and she says that they’re great for the home but also in a restaurant setting. The thin glass, slightly curved shape, and weighted base make it a little more interesting than your standard, straight-sided water glass. Intended for the service industry, these glasses come in a case of 72, which is more than an average household will ever need. But if these appeal to you, consider splitting a case with a family member or friend (or several family members or friends). The cost-per-glass comes out to just a tad over a dollar, which honestly can’t be beat.
Instead of a glass with straight sides, maybe you’d prefer one that has a tapered V-shape. Paul Malvone, a co-founder of Boston Burger Company, says the style is better for stacking. “At the restaurant, we prefer a 9-ounce old fashioned Endeavor rocks glass,” he says. “They’re a little better-looking than a traditional drinking glass, and are versatile enough for water or a soft drink, or even a hard beverage.”
According to Spina, these roughly five-inch goblets “are billed as ‘wineglasses,’ but they’re really not the best for crystal wine glass cup because of their open shape.” What that shape is great for, though, is good-old H2O. “They happen to be perfect for water with lemon.” The shape and the fact that they’re made in Italy make them even more distinguished. (Pictured as a set of four, the price shown is for one glass.)
Shelley Kleyn Armistead, a partner at Gjelina Group who is in charge of the interior design and tableware at all of its restaurants, is a fan of these simple Riedel water glasses. “I love the silhouette,” she says. “At the restaurants, we actually use them for wine because there’s something about them that feels friendly and approachable, a contrast to how wine is so often served.” Of course, they also work beautifully for water. Not too big and not too small, “they feel like glasses that should be used for daily enjoyment,” as Armistead puts it.
Libbey’s highball Impressions glasses hold more fluid than the brand’s shorter Esquire glasses in the section above, but they have a similar curved look and come in a more reasonable quantity (a set of four as opposed to a case of 72). They’re recommended by Decorist interior designer Katy Byrne, who says they’re her top pick for an everyday glass water bottle. “It’s the perfect weight with an elegant detail that not only looks nice but provides the perfect grip spot,” she tells us.
“At home, I use these 12-ounce Collins glasses, which are tall and a handsome vessel for cocktails” says Nick Rancone, the owner of the Twin Cities–based Twist Davis Group of restaurants. While they’re nice enough for serving drinks like a Tom Collins, gin fizz, or even a mojito, Rancone likes these because “they’re multipurpose enough to use for just plain water, too. I like that it can do double or triple duty.”
These highballs from Luigi Bormiolo come recommended by Battle: “This set is minimal in style and works well for several different drinks, whether a simple glass of water or a mint mojito,” she says. Battle adds that they’re also a great choice if you have kids: “They are a more durable option without having to sacrifice the look of glass.”
If you’re looking for something even more durable, Battle says “this is an almost identical alternate to the Luigi Bormiolo Classico glass, but is made of an acrylic that is BPA, Phthalate, lead and latex free.” They’re another great option “if you want the look of glass but don’t want to run the risk of them shattering,” she adds. They’re also available in a smaller “double old fashioned” style and in a turquoise, which she thinks is “great for summer.”
This stackable highball glass is a favorite of Employees Only co-owner Igor Hadzismajlovic for its convenience. “We use the 9-ounce highball glass by Libbey at home, which is stackable, and is a must for a tiny New York apartment,” he says. “It’s actually the same glass we use at Employees Only, too. They’re thick enough to eliminate breakage, which is especially important for a glass that is most frequently used.”
Sustainable-living expert Danny Seo, the editor-in-chief of Naturally, Danny Seo magazine, loves these glasses that are made from 100-percent post-consumer recycled glass — or “the stuff you toss out in your recycling bin,” as he puts it. Seo adds that “the organic texture and shape lends well to pairing them with clean modern dinnerware.” And we think the slightly bulbous silhouette is a little more interesting than that of your standard highballs.
Anna Polonsky, founder of the food-focused strategy-and-design consultancy Polonsky & Friends, loves to set a dinner table with these drinking glasses. “Hudson Wilder really creates timeless tableware,” she says. “They stand out without being too much. The base makes them special, but they’re also hardy enough not to feel too precious.” She owns a set in amber, which you’ll have to wait till September to get. Or snag these with a just as beautiful smoke-color base now.

19. If you have yet to shift, what are you most looking forwards to? Meeting my dad Tony Stark and possibly stealing an Iron Man Suit :)
20. If you have shifted already, what's been the best part?

#ArchivesHuzzah for the Fourth of July!
We’re celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence at this month’s Archives Hashtag Party.

This porcelain figurine depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence was made by Aldo Falchi in Italy. Officers from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution personally presented this figurine to President Ford in the Oval Office on 1/24/1975.
In honor of the nation’s Bicentennial, President Ford attended the opening of the “76 Hour Vigil: A National Tribute to the Charters of Freedom” at the U.S. National Archives on July 2, 1976. “The Declaration is the Polaris of our political order – the fixed star of freedom,” he stated in his remarks. “It is impervious to change because it states moral truths that are eternal.”

Since America’s 200th birthday took place while President Ford was in office, he received many gifts related to the founding of the country. Here are two that feature the Declaration of Independence.
French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing made a state visit to the White House on May 17, 1976, and presented his nation’s Bicentennial gift to President Ford. France gave the United States an antique 18th-century printing press. It was set up to print copies of the Declaration of Independence.

The ten members of Girl Scout Troop #208 from Richland Center, Wisconsin, presented a slightly less traditional version of this founding document to President Ford when he arrived in Milwaukee on October 30, 1975.

The Scouts used alphabet noodles to recreate the Declaration on a large 33 by 46 inch walnut plaque. It took them 60 hours to arrange more than 8,000 noodles!
