I saw a random post linking to this now-unrebloggable but very good post about the current state of reading comprehension in the USA amongst learned english majors due to the quite literal scam sold to the US government decades ago that has impacted generations, as many people have no doubt noticed but not been able to give a name to:

and out of sheer curiosity I am, I guess, now going to read "Bleak House" by Charles Dickens once I get through my current To Be Read list?

Anyways, for those unaware, it is Public Domain in the USA, which means you can 100% legally read it online or download to your favorite reading app from Project Gutenberg!

"Bleak House" by Charles Dickens is a novel written in the mid-19th century that explores the themes of social justice, the inefficiencies of the legal system, and the personal struggles of its characters.

The narrative primarily revolves around several characters involved in the interminable court case of Jarndyce and Jarndyce, delving into their lives, relationships, and the pervasive influence of the legal system on their choices and fates.

The story is introduced through the eyes of Esther Summerson, a young woman of uncertain parentage, who finds herself at the center of the unfolding drama.

i love it when fandom infantilizes characters to the point of denying them their own agency.

"if people in cang qiong had treated shen jiu differently-" do you have any evidence that they mistreated him? or is it too hard a pill to swallow that shen jiu was the one who decided to close himself off and be an asshole. that cang qiong treated him just fine, that his martial siblings tolerated him to the point that even when he was suspected of murder nothing was done to him?

who forced shen jiu to abuse luo binghe? to abuse other disciples? those were his decisions, that was him acting in a position of power.

the moral of the story is not "shen jiu was misunderstood :(" the moral is: the person who was abused can also become an abuser. the one who suffers violence can be violent towards others. you, despite what you've gone through, have the capacity for kindness and cruelty. so be wise on how you decide to act, because your pain doesn't justify hurting others, and your actions will have consequences.

you have agency, you have whatever amount of power you have over your own life and the things you do have and impact in the lives of those around you and yourself. so maybe try being at the very least neutral to the world and yourself, if you can't be kind.

but no, shen jiu's mentality was "since I suffered, they deserve to suffer too". and by taking that path he perpetuated the cycle of abuse.

bingge is the same, because he could have stopped at taking revenge on shen jiu, but he decided to involve the whole sect and the rest of the world, no matter who was innocent. he was unnecessarily cruel, but so was his master.

both shen jiu and bingge had the capacity for some form of "niceness" (in the way they treated women), so it wasn't as if they'd never known some form of love. at some point in their lives, they stopped being abused children and became abusive adults.

and that's an expression of human behaviour that we have to accept as possible. the svsss narrative invites us to examine ourselves in this light, to witness our capacity for both love and hate, to realize that even in the most adverse of circumstances, there's always a small sliver of agency over how we feel and how we act. that, despite the things that defines us from birth through childhood, our decisions also define what we'll become in the future.

It sounds like the Raz in your Villains AU would be more emotionally stunted than the proper FSAU Raz. I can imagine the Performer and Lover archetypes either didn't form to balance out the Agent archetype, or we have a Cassie situation. Maybe the Agent archetype usurped them and Raz ate his feelings.

It's not that I can't. I just find it more prudent to focus my energy elsewhere.

Hmmmm reflection I think ultimately I still feel like my work and contributions/role as a member of the team was disrespected and especially my time and also very confused and tired by the shenanigans this project has been as well as generally prideful and also kind of scummy to have to go with an obviously terrible design using uncredited art but also the situation escalated because I wasn't careful enough in reading text messages and also because I should've been more aggressive and punctual with my own opinions and asking for clarification on things, as well as putting the foot down ahead of time and being clear on that. And also I was acting kind of spitefully at some points I think. And to speak up when I really want something and not mald quietly about it. I maintain that it's still a dick move to change it up like that so close to the deadline, even if they dropped it in the gc. Despite the existence of the gc it really doesn't feel like we are on the same page ever. And also it doesn't look like a lot of care was taken with the designs that they are so set on keeping which makes Me frustrated. Also I don't know why they are acting like a created a completely different game. The only thing different is the visual style all the content is exactly the same save for the edits I made because things were written badly and/or extraneous. And I left both versions sitting in the workspace anyways so you can SEE that. The latest texts I've been getting have just been incomprehensible in a way where I feel like I can't say anything without being too mean but I just like. What

Fanon-verse Saeru as a "lazy bum" cat snake 🐈‍⬛🐍

I've definitely seen some fanon-verse takes of Saeru in the past with him chilling in the MekaDan's base like a cat ^^

So basically, fanon-verse Saeru begrudgingly helps with the MekaDan's chores and cooking when urged to help out.

I've mainly seen it in fanon-verse settings where it's just focused on the MekaDan's daily life shenanigans.

The idea of the Mekakushi Dan having fanon-verse Saeru lying around as a lazy bum type cat snek is so funny 🐈‍⬛🐍

Workaholic Saeru

I have canon-verse Saeru as a workaholic in my own interpretations, because I headcanon that he feels bored all the time and constantly craves stimulation.

So he tries to occupy himself by tinkering with tech, building robots, and making little gadgets and such.

Due to his knowledge, he's able to improve current existing human technologies by making his own upgrades.

He works on them in his own lab 🧪🥼🔬

Me: Yeah same here. I think with canon-verse Saeru, I mainly see him as devoted.

I like the fact that this is his form of showing his devotion to his Master(s), even if in the most (misguided) and twisted way.

With fanon-verse Saeru, in a setting apart from KagePro's angst that takes place in a slice of life setting where he chills with the MekaDan, is generally an inconvenience, and generally causes them trouble.

So this kind of setting is a more lighthearted/comedic/fluffy slice of life setting

KagePro's Final Route (HCs)

I don't know much about HH, but I always imagined in my personal HCs that since Saeru is the creation of Azami, I like interpretations/takes where he's the Kozakura family's guardian figure in the Final Route of KagePro (post-canon)

It's not "redemption" (which I think he should never have - canon-verse Saeru should just stay as an irredeemable pure evil since he is more compelling that way), like he's very much the same (still very evil), but he just runs around like an unhinged gremlin instead.

And he still causes problems for the others but it's more contained.

So I still have him as evil and insane, but he's holding back his murderous tendencies and keeping them contained.

I tinkered with things a bit in my own setting, so that it'd keep with KagePro's core/central theme-ing of "The existence of hope in the presence of tragedy."

I imagined him possessing tech (via android bodies he makes) so that he can still exist.

I see it as his way of finally making up for his past karma, by finally doing good deeds this time for the sake of his Master(s), by putting his knowledge to good use (other than using it solely for his own selfish/self-serving desires lol)

(Ofc, he wanted to continue the time loop tragedy forever, and has no remorse about that fact. Like I imagine he didn't want to do this lol, but I imagined that it was the only option he could take for him to continue existing after being "defeated." If it means he can still live, then why not. So he begrudgingly took the offer.)

(Maybe Mary or Azami herself presented this option to him. At first he thinks that their proposal of 'finding his own meaning to life' is ridiculous, but since he can still live a more "quiet existence," he might as well take whatever offer he can get.)
