Phyrexian Praetor Portraits (2022)

This was the first time I experimented with a style similar to Disco Elysium. I always thought the praetors were really interesting characters. It's unfortunate they got so little focus in their final story arc.

Still quite happy with these pieces, although some came out better than others. :)

Praetor

A praetor was a senior magistrate in ancient Roman government, who was granted executive or imperium powers similar to that of the consuls. Although originally assigned legal authority over the courts, his executive powers allowed him to command the army and, if needed, even preside over the Roman Senate. Candidates usually had to serve as a praetor before they could stand election to the consulship.

Anyone else really wish we'd gotten more of Percy in New Rome before the Argo II arrives?

I would have loved to see him actually have to be the Praetor for awhile. Sure, in many ways he actually isn't the right choice to be a Roman leader; but that's just all the more reason it would be interesting to see him have to do it longer term!

Praetor-Prime from Stormbringer magazine, sent to me for review by Hachette Partworks. She's an absolutely lovely model, and the painting experience is one I can only think of as "comfy." I also tried a slightly different painting technique for her cloak this go around, forgoing washes and instead starting from a darker red. I think it worked out!
