I'm admittedly one of those fans that refuses to believe David 8 created the Xenomorph. Reverse engineered? Sure! I can believe that. The Praetomorph and Deacon classifications exist for a reason. People keep fucking with the thing.
I like to think the Engineers ran into the XX121 naturally, fucked around with their genetic material, and found out the hard way. David played god because he wanted to.
Also, the idea of nature on any celestial body being so inherently volatile to the point of creating the XX121 naturally is a fuck-ton more terrifying than any "false-god hubris" philosophical concept.
I guess maybe I'm a little more into the Sci-Fi side of things than the gore LMAO.

Looking back at it all now, I genuinely believe that the Deacon is the natural form of the xenomorph - prior to any genetic manipulation that took place. The Engineers just held the animal in high regard.
In an act of creation, David would attempt to recreate this beast, birthing the perfected Alien we all know.

Engineer and Offspring plushies ~
I've been wanting to draw these 2 for a while, and now It's done :)
(I suppose it would be scented plush, mint for the Engineer and cherry for The Offspring 8)

I've bitched about this before, but apparently some of you have reblogged my older Engineer-related posts, so I thought I might as well mention this: That's all fine, but I just wanted to say that some of the info I shared turned out to not stem from a real/official source. 🙃
The idea that Engineers can't reproduce, for example, is from a fan-made draft script. 🫠
There's nothing to confirm this idea at all anyway, even when I looked through the comics.
A part of the comics, however, is that they have telekinesis! That's pretty cool. It's canon to me LMAO.

💙 Prometheus Fics I Adore 💙
Just here to share some Prometheus (Alien) fics I love to re-read. 😌
Forbidden Gifts by Ardath_Rekha On Ao3 (Has not been finished) - This fic actually has the Last Engineer x Elizabeth Shaw ship! It's such an extreme rare-pair, and it's very well done! I love this ship with my whole heart, istg. - The bridging done between the prequels & the main film is interesting, and the whole story takes you on such a journey. The only thing I remember of reading this the first time was that it was a perfect vibe for mid-winter. - I won't spoil anything, but it does something really interesting with David's character, so for any David sympathizers (*cough cough* @elecctromechanika ) this one's pretty fun! - Is super internal-dialogue centered, and I love it for that! - Just as a note: there is a sex scene in here, but the author warns you thoroughly, and you can skip it if you please.
Those Whom Fortune Favors + Intrepid by JShale on Ao3 (Intrepid isn't finished, but the first one is!) - Those Whom Fortune Favors doesn't need much artistic liberty when going in, as it keeps the same isolated feeling & story as the movie. - Elizabeth's characterization is so fucking on-point. It's always the little things that make each character so distinct from one another, and makes them layered. - Intrepid is basically TWFF, but from the Last Engineer's P.O.V. & adds really interesting perspective I think I needed to recognize how severely a language barrier can warp your perception of a character.
Alone by @wingedmidnight on Ao3 (My apologies if you don't want to be tagged! I'll get rid of whatever upon request. :3) - This fic is OC & David centered, but I love it a lot because of that. It's a very interesting take, seeing the world through a different human's eyes while exploring the weird world of Alien. - David also doesn't turn out to be a creepy little murder machine! No war crimes here. Love that for him. - If you don't like shipping, romance, or sexual tension (the latter of which happens in the both of the above listed, seemingly only on Shaw's side in TWFF-) this one's better suited! - The world building is so creative! Not just in environment, but in the personalities and culture of the Engineers. - Not finished, but I don't mind. I love re-reading it either way.
Curiosity is a Virtue by MewMidnight fanfiction.net (Is also not finished) - There's definitely Elizabeth x Engineer stuff in here, but I'm a little less focused on that. There's also like... one chapter of smut, but it can be easily avoided, if that's not to your taste. - Shaw is as curious as she always is here, constantly seeking answers. - I enjoy the little chunks of world-building in here, but it's mostly funny to watch the other Engineers gawk over Shaw and David the whole time. - CiaV is a far lighter read by comparison, for multiple reasons. It's just such a nice ride.
Figured I'd make this list to give a bit of love (and life) back into this niche corner of the Alien fandom! I hope you give at least one of these a try, and happy reading! 💙

I really wanna believe that these two aren't the same species.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really don't want them to be. I don't want the mystery of the Space Jockey to be spoiled, especially in such a haphazard way. As intriguing as the recent storyline headed by Ridley Scott is, its presentation and deliverance is such a mess, and so it makes the Jockey turning out to be the Engineer to be sorta worse.
EDIT: Another thing I forgot to mention: the original Jockey is even larger than the later Engineers. Like, twice as big.

One thing I find funny about that scene is that David is CONVINCED he is a god. He's so out of his own mind at that point. He is not religious and doesn't need to be. He IS god, by his means. By bombing the Engineers on planet 4, he not only denounces their history & development by destroying their living documentation/preservation but calls them unworthy in doing so.
The David's Drawings book is his "Bible". A Bible dedicated to unrestrained science in its' "purest" form. He is the God that dictates who lives and who dies. Who aids in the creation of the new "Eden", or who is cast aside is all his choice.
David has a twisted, one-sided "relationship" with the Engineers, arguably one more complicated than his relationship with humans. On one hand, he regards their engineering/technological techniques to be unique and remarkable, on the other hand, he believes they have become weak with time, refusing to sacrifice anything for the cost of science. Of discovery. "Nostalgia is the enemy of science, yet there is still something enticing in their form. Perfect carriers.", " [Unintelligible]. . . files(?) told of an ancient ceremony, such cruelty once thrived, long since frozen over. Given passage to timidity. The cost of progress must be absolute. It's not for the weak."
a very cool detail in Alien: Covenant

A youtube comment by user TristandeRobillard:
I'm glad you brought up the line where David gets the author of Ozymandias wrong, because as an English major, it tickled me pink and added so much meaning to his character that didn't need to be explained. The fact that he thought the poem was written by Byron was so telling.
See, for those who don't know, Byron was one of the leaders of the Romantic movement in literature, which was an era in art when people wanted to celebrate the intensity of feeling and the uniqueness of individual experience, to broadly simplify for time. Byron was a major forerunner of this movement and is remembered for being a wild child who lived fast and died young, but squeezed everything he could out of life. One of his fellow authors and lover, Lady Caroline Lamb, even described him as "mad, bad, and dangerous to know", a quote which I think serves to shed light on David's pride at thinking Byron wrote Ozymandias.
To me, David views Ozymandias Romantically, perceiving it as a celebration of destruction and a glorification of the destroyer. He, having wiped out the Engineers, quotes Ozymandias as a validation of what he sees was a great work of his, but completely misses the point that Shelley, the actual author of Ozymandias, wrote it as a condemnation of the self-glorification that was common among monarchs of the time and in ages past, pointing out that the erosion of time will destroy any monument one makes for oneself.
David thinks he is his own Byron, drunk on his creation. He is actually Ozymandias, doomed to be left a ruin by the ravages of time along with his perverse monument to his own self-aggrandisement. It's one line, but the characterisation is fucking beautiful.

In the Face of Discovery - Chapter 5: The Restless Banquet
"In the Face of Discovery" is a canon-divergent fanfiction taking place in the Prometheus 2012 Alien universe. As Shaw wanders through life on LV-223, the question remains: just how far can discovery go?
"Countless worlds are under the threat of Ey'vis' long-sworn enemy, Ambrosia. After the two's mutual warring had come to a slow pause, sudden activity came up in possibly one of the most messy, complicated universes ever. Space Jockeys, the feared space traveling race, and Humans, their defiled creations, have no choice but to follow her demands. After all, who's gonna question the 25 foot tall Eldridge horror?"
